Hi. Thanks for getting your game on with me. Here are the things discussed in this video. First, and most importantly, there is marble racing: ua-cam.com/video/JtsQ_UydjEI/v-deo.html
And here's that William Carlos Williams poem about ball games and mere beauty: www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45498/the-crowd-at-the-ball-game
As for Zwift, it's MUCH cheaper than Peleton and in my opinion way more fun. They didn't pay me to say that (in fact, I pay them every month). As far as Zwift racing goes, I enjoy watching Cam Jeffers: ua-cam.com/video/grcv9hO7HZk/v-deo.html and IRL pro cyclist Alex Dowsett: ua-cam.com/video/hQIrURtDXEY/v-deo.html
    Classic Tetris: ua-cam.com/channels/-8BAEcWSEs4-KQp1ULVnaQ.html
And Jason Rosenthal's book My Wife Said You May Want to Marry Me: www.harpercollins.com/9780062940599/my-wife-said-you-may-want-to-marry-me/
Thanks for being here with us. -John

There's one episode where he explores that weird contradiction in depth and it honestly changed the way I view sports fans and made me understand some of where they are coming from.

I volunteer at a theatre and I feel a bit silly missing it and the people in it desperately. There’s over 600 people and every shift has such a wonderful unknowingness ahead of them because you never know who you’ll meet and the conversations you’ll have. I have severe asthma and can’t leave the house but I spend countless hours sat at my desk with the window open listening to birds and watching all the mundane tasks my neighbours get up to each day.
(Side note: for football funniness have you seen the video Chris Kamara missing a red card during a game he’s commentating. I remember about it every now and again and it brings a small silly bit of joy every time I watch it)

John talking about things that don't matter but are still somehow important reminded me of something else he said that I really liked; "Perhaps nothing matters in the grand scheme of things, but we don't live in the grand scheme of things. We live here, in the day to day." The contexts were different obviously but I think the core is the same; it's important to still care about things. Finding beauty in the 'meantime' and 'day to day' is something I've been struggling with but thank you for the reminder that it's worth making the time for.

I've also just got motorcycle gear for myself so my husband and I can go riding together, we have a goal of going for a picnic together by the end of summer, but also he wants to take me to a little roadside diner about an hour away too for burgers and ice cream... I'm finding beauty in having time to turn my face to the sky and the trees and the rain.
I'm finding beauty in the spider that's been living in my window this week.

I am a massive baseball fan and it strikes me that the only other time when baseball has not been played in the last 130 years was during the world wars (and even then, other leagues stepped in). This feels like wartime, but the distinct difference is that in wartime, our togetherness, often through sport, is what gets us through. While sports themselves dont matter, the communities around them do. I'm missing baseball terribly, but even more so I miss the togetherness that comes from being at Fenway Park or watching the game with my family. While I know we are finding ways to be together, even while forced apart, I look forward that the first "Sweet Caroline" sung when fans are back in Fenway Park. It will be the sweetest one yet.

I have been watching marble racing since before this whole mishegoss started. I grew up listening to baseball games on the radio with my Dad and so I developed an affinity for the patter of play by play commentary. The way an announcer will start in on a tangent only to be interrupted by an event in play that must be called out or a statement that was true when the sentence began but is no longer true by sentence end. Marbula One scratched that itch for me and I am glad that you, and other Nerdfighters, have been enjoying it too.

I was training to run my first marathon on April 25th. The race got cancelled, but my friend and training partner decided to run it anyway. It was the two of us and six supporters and 26.2 miles up and down one street, in the rain. And it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But also the best thing I’ve ever done. The pandemic ruined the marathon experience I wanted to have, but it gave me the marathon I was meant to have. There might not have been tens of thousands of people cheering for us, but every single person there was someone I love. That’s how I’ve been finding that release and joy.
