Which is why the line is so strange... it's like saying "This American Life fans insist they are not a cult" (although of course in that case they are). There was never any suggestion of Nerdfighters being a cult in the first place.
+Forest Hunt It seems so random, but when John was on The Colbert Report he was asked if he was leading a cult. Maybe the more people ask, the more we become one. Oh, dear.
I'm laughing at the fact that they called him "a UA-cam celebrity" and John has previously said that if he could take one word out of the English language it would be "celebrity".
Good job!! I've watched/read a lot of news articles/videos about nerdfighteria recently because I find their misunderstandings amusing. This one was actually one of the better representations I've seen. Congrats to you and your panel!
That last little quote was fabulous. I know that my opinions bias, being both a nerdfighter and a teenager, but, I just love his (and Hanks) view on us. We are young, but he never talks about or treats us like we are mentally inferior because of it. Just, young, and learning, the way every other adult was at one time as well. Also I love that Esther was mentioned. She is forever a part of the heart of nerdfighteria.
This is such a great video to promote what Nerdfighters actually are. I feel like John gets thrown into this category of "trendy" YA novelists, but he is so much more than that.
tfw i've been following SciShow and Crash Course for years and I found out about their VlogBrothers channel just a few months ago and now I realize John Has written that bestselling book every human being has heard of.
This entire video was assuming that all Nerdfighters are teens and here I am fangirling over TIFIOS & melting over John Green 's last words in this interview at 27. DFTBA JOHN & HANK!
singinwithceline It's because old media assumes everyone that's part of new media is a teenager or is someone trying to appeal to teenagers. It'll go away eventually, but the old media generation (which I'm half part of, also being in my mid-20's) will go away eventually and the patronizing behavior will probably stop.
Holy shit I did not know and thus I have never seen actual footage of esther!!! Mindblown!! And this proves why I have allways thought that video is a magical thing..looking at it this way that the person in that video is basically stuck in time forever!
"Young people" Aaaaw 31 is young now. I feel flattered. Also, vlogbrothers is John and Hank Green, not just John. I also started watching vlogbrothers long before I read the books and it has helped me a lot.
this makes me so happy and so proud to be a nerdfighter. Thank you, John and Hank, for starting this wonderful community. Without it I would not be the same person, nor would I have met some of my best friends.I am so excited and proud for the TFiOS movie to be releasing soon! DFTBA!
Thank you, CBS, for making this short easy explanation. That is something we nerdfighters can use to make things more clear to those who we love but who not fully understand us. :D DFTBA
Can't believe I missed this. It's so surreal seeing mainstream media's attempts at explaining the phenomenon. :) And I don't mean that disrespectfully, you guys did a good job. Plus of course it's happened before, but there's something about the 'taking a carefully constructed casual walk while being interviewed' that took things to the next level for me.
When john green showed his manuscript of Fault in Our Stars to an agent. The agent read the first ten pages and threw the rest away. Fault in our Stars is about Existentialism and its teachings.
The Overall segment was cool, but why the hell do all these mainstream guys introduce UA-camrs as "Most Famous People you've never heard of?" I mean,I just barely started following VlogBrothers but I have known John Green since TFIOS came out. So...what are they implying by saying"You've never heard of?"
+Aakash Mahadevan I started following them the first year they started making videos , wich now is 9 years since their first video... and for the longest time, nobody knew exept the followers.. they were big within the community, but outside nobody knew who they were.
Once "nerdfighter" was a term that described shared values, a sense of interest for the complexity of the world, a proudly acknowledged nerdiness. Now, it's the name of a fandom. It's sad. I undertand that it's the effect of time and fame, and that it can't have the same meaning when it touches so many people... but damn how nerdfighteria changed. Change is not inherently a bad thing, my statement is just an observation, not a judgment.
why are people angry that John green romanticized illness? it's not like someone is going to give themselves cancer over it and I would imagine it is a great help to people with these problems. I don't know though so if people with sicknesses like this are offended I would proverbially bow to their wishes.
I agree fully, if you listen to what he says, "the nerdfighters deny they are a cult" he actually asked us that question in the interview and we were quick to stomp on that question haha
Lmao, I don't think dudes even read unless its some shit like game of thrones. In fact there's a pretty interesting video about this matter. Boys score stupid low on English proficiency compared to girls. It turns out that most of this stems from a lack of interest in the type of literature in english classes, which is more feeling oriented and fits well for girls.
+Destinys Style he is already married, and I dont think he is ready for a 2nd wife xD but what we both can do, is just dive into the pool of bookstores and LAN's and find outself a simular one :P

"The nerdfighters insist they are not a cult"
What a hilarious and out of nowhere line...
Which is why the line is so strange... it's like saying "This American Life fans insist they are not a cult" (although of course in that case they are). There was never any suggestion of Nerdfighters being a cult in the first place.
I would agree, we're a fandom maybe, but definitely not a cult.
Forest Hunt This watermelon insists it's not a pizza!
I think it's cause it's kind of ongoing joke.
I am so proud that I was able to represent nerdfighteria!!! I am so happy right now!!! Yes that's me with the tattoo!!!
Good job!! I've watched/read a lot of news articles/videos about nerdfighteria recently because I find their misunderstandings amusing. This one was actually one of the better representations I've seen. Congrats to you and your panel!
Cool tattoo!
That's a damn good looking tattoo. Of course you already knew that. That why you got it in the first place. lol
Where'd ya get the cool Hank t-shirt?
MrRoboskippy dftba.com!
the last thirty seconds, where john green talks about the teenagers of today, is the nicest thing I've ever heard anyone say about us in my life
I know, I cried, he's awesome
it is nice to be believed in.
+kiki Henrie It really is. God, I love John!
That is why I appreciate him and Hank doing what they do.
And now you're an adult! How have the last 7 years gone?
DFTBA IS AN INITIALISM NOT AN ACRONYM
That last little quote was fabulous. I know that my opinions bias, being both a nerdfighter and a teenager, but, I just love his (and Hanks) view on us. The title of this video was written by someone who knows how the internet works.
I'm 52, a Nerdfighter, and a long-time fan of John Green. Enough with the assumptions and stereotypes, please.
I'm 28, a Nerdfighter, and lover of John Green... but who the eff is Hank? ;)
Perhaps ... Call me, and we'll see! :-)
dead person Call your mum anyway. It'll make her nerdmama heart happy.
In same order, things happened with me...
Same for me :D
This entire video was assuming that all Nerdfighters are teens and here I am fangirling over TIFIOS & melting over John Green 's last words in this interview at 27. DFTBA JOHN & HANK!
singinwithceline 43 and a lifetime of geek goin' on here. ;)
singinwithceline It's because old media assumes everyone that's part of new media is a teenager or is someone trying to appeal to teenagers. It'll go away eventually, but the old media generation (which I'm half part of, also being in my mid-20's) will go away eventually and the patronizing behavior will probably stop.
+singinwithceline will be 34 next week, so ........ yeah.....
I'm 41, never heard of John's books until I watched a countless number of vlogborthers, and all of their other channels. Amazing. Inspiring
Holy shit I did not know and thus I have never seen actual footage of esther!!! Mindblown!!
And this proves why I have allways thought that video is a magical thing..looking at it this way that the person in that video is basically stuck in time forever!
I'm also in my 50 's. It's a fairly diverse community. Nerd fighters FTW.
This is THE best media coverage of Nerdfighteria I have come across to date! Great job, CBS!
*crying* this is perfect. Thank you so much CBS.
This might be the best representation of John Green to non-Nerdfighters that I've seen. Look at that! Hank got a mention AND some screen time!
"Young people" Aaaaw 31 is young now. I feel flattered. Also, vlogbrothers is John and Hank Green, not just John.
I also started watching vlogbrothers long before I read the books and it has helped me a lot.
OMG, what he said about teenagers is so true
I'm 38 and I just got into reading John Green last summer. I am not ashamed to admit that.
this makes me so happy and so proud to be a nerdfighter. Thank you, John and Hank, for starting this wonderful community. Without it I would not be the same person, nor would I have met some of my best friends.I am so excited and proud for the TFiOS movie to be releasing soon! DFTBA!
I love how the reporter's acting like books are these new fangled things, the kids have picked up.
no mention of crash course?
Lol, I was waiting for it too.
At this point John and Hank do so many things that its nearly impossible to fit them all into one news piece.
I was thinking about Mental Floss :)
It was already a pretty overstuffed piece at 7 minutes.
its so cute watching outsiders try to "explain" nerdfighteria....
has anyone noticed John has a different speaking voice in an interview than in a Vlogbrothers video?
Love you too John, and it aint just teens around here, haven't been a teen in going on ten years.
I haven't been a teen in even more then ten (multiple decades territory) and I'm a huge fan of John and Hank and nerdfighteria. :)
i am 24 and i am a nerdfighter
i'm 47 and i'm a nerdfighter
or girls. I'm an old 29 year old man fan. emo nerd fighter

DFTBA -Saffron~Grace
F*** YEAH, NERDFIGHTERIA!!!
Thank you, CBS, for making this short easy explanation. That is something we nerdfighters can use to make things more clear to those who we love but who not fully understand us. :D
DFTBA
nerdfighter tears took control. thanks john
Right? God, I can't stop crying right now, I love them both so much!
John Green is a phenomenal person.
His name is JOHN GREENA!
(Da da da daaaa)
+Jeannie Weasly greatest comment ever. you win at life, ma'aam.
I love John and Hank Green!!! And this show :-) DFTBA!
Poor Hank, he only gets like, 6 seconds on screen. :(
He's published more than 4 books, if you include his collaborations. But this is a great video, and made me tear up when Esther was on. DTFBA!
I think John got his hair but shorter for TFIOS media junket just so puff levels wouldn't be quite so high.
Its like. Both found fame via UA-cam but he became and novelist and Hank is a big entrepreneur and CEO. love them.
I'm crying, too many feels!
Me too!
One of his old teachers is my current teacher
RIP John Green
That tattoo is awesome.
Sioraf asNaCillini I'm planning on getting a Nerdfighter tattoo myself. It's going to be more simple though.
You know what funny I have the book the fault in our star right next to me and I finished rescind it for the third time . I love his books so much
It's an initialism not an acronym!!!!!
You mean you don't say duftbah?
Dern-it-all ! How many times hace I watched dis video clip ?
I often go back to videos like this to check for addenda. I am often disappointed.
I'm so happy for hank and john's success!!
What a great quote at the end.
The video they choose in which John says a date is my birthrate.
What are the odds!?
When the CBS forgets about Hank for half of the video.
Literally crying because of this video. A happy crying of course. That's really what John and hank means to us nerfighteria!
One of my old English teachers is in the bottom row all the way on the right
I don't know why this wasn't recommended to me earlier but here I am
Holy crap! They are brothers? That's explains a lot.
When john green showed his manuscript of Fault in Our Stars to an agent. The agent read the first ten pages and threw the rest away. Fault in our Stars is about Existentialism and its teachings.
As a teacher, I second everything John said about teenagers...
ignore hank like a boss
and Ansel Elgort was only there to look good :-/
yep
Aw come on.
What would the muggles know about the HANKgreen.
Who the eff is Hank?
The Overall segment was cool, but why the hell do all these mainstream guys introduce UA-camrs as "Most Famous People you've never heard of?" I mean,I just barely started following VlogBrothers but I have known John Green since TFIOS came out. So...what are they implying by saying"You've never heard of?"
+Aakash Mahadevan personally for me, i watched John's youtube videos for quite a while and only then realised he is a well known writer
+Aakash Mahadevan I started following them the first year they started making videos , wich now is 9 years since their first video... and for the longest time, nobody knew exept the followers.. they were big within the community, but outside nobody knew who they were.
Where the eff is Hank
The fact that they used sharpie face for the beginning
RIP Esther earl
I love you john!!!!!!
Awesome fan.... I'll take it 🤝
I only heard of him from Crash Course!
At 4:55 - It's not an acronym! It's initialism. Acronyms are pronounceable and initialism isn't. French the llama you call yourself nerdfighters.
"His videos"... poor Hank.
This kinda made me tear up. DFTBA
General media makes John look so nerdy XD
Annoyed Philanthropist He*is* a nerd.
Eff Yea Nerdfighters!!!

SEAMUSSS!!!! This is rad.
what did john write at 4:01 between the two lines?
why are people angry that John green romanticized illness? it's not like someone is going to give themselves cancer over it and I would imagine it is a great help to people with these problems. I don't know though so if people with sicknesses like this are offended I would proverbially bow to their wishes.
You go Seamus!!!!
tears))
Nerdfighters! :D
I don't know what you guys think, but I would never class Nerdfighters as a cult….DFTBA Annie :)
I agree fully, if you listen to what he says, "the nerdfighters deny they are a cult" he actually asked us that question in the interview and we were quick to stomp on that question haha
Cult members are the last to admit that they're cult members. #DFTBA!

Said starting at 0:04

ReY D hes co written like 3 others etc but anyways
Why are all his fans jumpy teenage girls? Is he one of those soft types who write about soft subjects boys don't really care about?
When was the last time you saw a bunch of dudes jumping around being excited for something? All I can come up with is a sporting event.
3:36 HA HA HA HA HA.
All those ham beasts and the Beta on the corner.

DFTBA
John Green, will you please marry me?
+Destinys Style he is already married, and I dont think he is ready for a 2nd wife xD but what we both can do, is just dive into the pool of bookstores and LAN's and find outself a simular one :P
As he said on 4th December 2007 that would make him a felon. `.` (Btw I'm not that obsessed, I just happened to have watched that video today.)
Fuckin' A
