11/6/2019 - Joe, I was in a blind in Ohio the other day, I watched your video from the blind. 1 hour later, I called an 11 point from a beet field 180 yards away to a decoy. Your tips were concise, and to the point. I tried to get an e mail for you, but Knight & Hale said they could not give it to me. So I wanted to say thanks. Terry O-Pittsburgh

Great tips in less than 1:30. Not sure why others are needing 20 minutes to explain what you just did in time enough to cook a hot pocket. Thank you.

I use two long and two short grunts during rut....all in one call. It always gets them to come to at least 100 yds during gunning season.....got a 10 point, 200lb + this year Dec 22nd in NC. The absolute secret is a 50/50 mix of buck urine and estrus (Code red works as good as the expensive urine)....along with the grunts....drag a string to your stand....place 3 cotton balls with the mix around your stand.....if you spook them on the way in they usually won't go far if you go in when it's dark without a flash light.....as soon as it breaks light start the tending grunt....2 long, 2 short...a grunt about every second.....deer are not very picky with the grunts. The mix of urine with grunts sell you as another buck breeding his doe.
I started blowing before it got light the week before I shot the big one.....had a buck come under my stand in the dark....he went right to my urine cotton ball then left. Just don't get caught moving in the light.....they will leave....watch with the wind.....the big ones will usually come into it.
Bucks are like dogs. If your female dog goes in heat the neighborhood male dogs will make it to your yard eventually. If you don't see a buck guess what! They're not in the area! Keep trying every day if you know they come there from time to time!
Buck urine and a single grunt works well during pre rut.....they get very angry and aggressive when a buck comes into their area. Don't put it on you! You could get killed.

10/21/23- watched your video in my stand, grunted every 30 mins. At 330p had a little 8pt come looking then it was dead for hours, at 6p decided to grunt one last time sure enough 10 mins later had a nice 11pt come in looking for a fight thrashing trees around. Shot him with my bow 35 yards ran about 70 yards and dropped.

Grunted one in 200 yards away last week. The first few he didn't hear but he perked up finally. Glad he got closer. He was smaller than I thought so let him walk. Was nice to call in tho.

To the folks with the "tending grunt" questions. A tending grunt will be short when he's chasing, the longer grunts are when stationary. ( I'm no pro, just my experience. I'm 43 an been hunting alone since 9yrs old)

The main thing to understand is calling work on deer that's not pressured if you've got 10 people out there grunting and rattling and deer seen them. Then don't expect to grunt or rattle a buck in

Strange.. Another video explains " tending " grunts as long drawn out grunts.. Yet you basically said its the opposite.. I'm confused now as to what a " tending grunt " is when I just got two completely contradicting definitions..

I always figure tending grunts (longer) are for stationary deer and the TRAILING GRUNTS are the short-fast grunts. Hope that helps. I primarily use trailing grunts when I’m blind calling or I think a buck is just outta sight. Which is most of the time I would say, most other grunts are to basically get a bucks attention as he may be outta range or walking away.

Knight & Hale I'm throwing down a flat out challenge. I bet you can't make it happen. here it is. let's see a series of instructional vids for hearing impaired and totally deaf hunters. I bet you can't make this happen. and yes, I'm deliberately being rough. I'm trying to get your attention in a serious way. can you make it happen?

Use 50% buck urine with 50% doe estrus. Drag it on a string and put 3 cotton balls with it around your stand. It seals the deal with a tending grunt. Be sure to get into your stand in the dark without a flash light. You can spook them but they wont go far....it confuses them when they hear the tending grunts. I get a crack at at least one big one every year....Got a 200lb+ 10 point this year.
