  • We played a game of Competitive Counter-Strike on the original Counter-Strike 1.6 maps, taking us back 20 years to the beginning of time itself. How would modern competitive mechanics and mindset affect gameplay on the original dust2, nuke, and train?

you didnt need to crouch to go through vents back in the day
the 3kliks port of the map is scaled for 1.6 character heights
in csgo the players are so slightly taller than original which causes unforeseen consequences when porting the original maps

@@rynaxw it's either having a slight advantage sometimes by having AO enabled, or not having an FPS dip whenever there's a smoke grenade (that shader mixed with AO really tanks your FPS)
COD4 has this identical bug, whenever there's a smoke grenade you'd get 9-13 fps, even though you can run the game capped at 250fps with no stutters normally
on CS the dip isn't as noticeable as COD, but it's still there.

  • @GizmoTheViking

    1: Extinguish a molotov with a smoke.
2: Throw a grenade in the smoke
3: Resmoke the same spot just before the first smoke fades away.
Far as I can tell from the short clip, this was a resmoke. So it w3as the particles from the first smoke evaporating that makes the second smoke see through.

I had to look up the definition of "liminal" after you used it a few times in this video. I thought I might share with others who might not know the definition.
    liminal
    adjective (TECHNICAL)
    1. relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process.
    2. occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold.

You forgot to mention the biggest thing WAROWL. These maps didn't have Molotovs back then! Oh my you took me back in time! My favourite in these old maps was rushing ramp with 2 flashes on T side nuke. So effective I won almost always! (Coz molotovs weren't there to stop you)

5:30, oh yeah, like in the good old days. I remember this map so well, except that I think that now I will probably get a bit confused with the vents.

I'm like a year late to this video, but just appeared on my feed, I just want to see I'm sad to see assassination maps gone, we would play as_oilrig 24/7 no AWP on our cybercafe, I wish I could play something like that on CS2 lol. Other maps we could add to the rotation when other people came that I miss are cs_siege, cs_militia, de_prodigy and de_dust. I guess not seeing them in competitive rotation means they were kinda broken or unbalanced, but I'm just sharing my nostalgia. Since I saw map workshop added to CS2 I go check every few days for any of those maps in the workshop lol
    cheers
