Thankfully, everyone knows that Blue soldier has asbestos poisoning due to the industrial materials used in construction for Blu team's housing. He merely has tiny particles clogging up his lungs, instead of literal insanity. I'm sure he's otherwise strict about his... lungs are already clogged by cigars. And choked by the cold oxygen-reduced air. Huh. He must be a frequent user of the Respawn Machine. Meanwhile, the Red Soldier is (canonically (*as in not just made up by me on the spot)) 'justified' as being dumb because they have lead poisoning from the more "creatively" sourced materials used in the construction of Teufort's plumbing, which Solider partook in the results of.

Actually, there's an easter egg that proves that they actually did use that plan. It just, didn't work. Let's just say that, somewhere out there, a group of pidgeons flew off towards the reds with the bomb, and did not arrive at the destination. They did not arrive at any intended destination. Instead, the pidgeons- carrying a bomb straight off a payload cart that takes multiple humans to trudge along, between the five of them somehow- _wandered_ around their target, rather than actually executing on the plan by... dropping the bomb. Most likely, what happened is the tied-up birds scavenged off of the batllefield, pulling around the bomb as they did so, before eventually getting unlucky with a stray bullet or explosive, being atomized immediately as the closest living things to the payload. Followed by whatever even unluckier people happened to be in the range of the Monster Bash centerpoint-sized, instantly deadly explosive.

The symbolism in the chess game heavy plays actually predicts what happens with the train. Heavy sends out himself, his king, to protect his pawns, his teammates. Showing that he did know that it would lead to certain defeat, yet was happy to protect those he had grown to care about over the years of mercenary work with them.
11:35 - Engineer is the only merc who doesn't seem relieved when the train car doesn't smash into the TNT. Some quick foreshadowing that he's really BLU Spy in disguise.
Comparing the finished product to the trailer released in 2013, You can see how hard the cranky, but lovely Source Filmmaker was pushed to the limits. Love returning to this masterpiece once a few months!
The face that soldier makes when he realize the train is aiming for the explosives barrels, kitten store, orphanage and kitten orphanage are so cartoonishly hilarious
I love how heavy has ZERO fear stepping onto those train tracks. He knows he might die or worse, but he is completely fine with that fact so long as his team is able to live on and prosper. That is the definition of a hero, a man willing to throw away everything he has worked for, willingly just awaiting an end to save more people in a total act of selflessness.
Fun fact: ubercharge doesn't canonically increase strength, it just makes you invulnerable, meaning that the heavy is strong enough to stop a fucking train 💀
When Medic's beam breaks off of Heavy after the train hits him, you just see Medic's grit turn to emotionlessness and hopelessness. He doesn't care when he loses his coat. He doesn't care that 15 feet to his right is a symphony of crashes, slices, carnage and chaos. He doesn't even notice the train car barreling towards him. Scout gets him out of the way, saving his life. When he sits up, he doesn't stand up. He just stares at the tracks, where Heavy was.
I read somewhere that once medic thinks heavy is dead, he doesn't care anymore about what was happening around him. He lets his coat fly and instead of running away, he just stands there. That's why scout decided to tackle him to save his life.
I am disappointed that no one praises the music that was composed for this. It ain't just a bunch of samples slapped together. Fantastic tunes, atmospheric and energetic, unique and characterful. Great job!
The sad reality is, often music that is composed incredibly well is hard to notice. The only time that people will usually notice is if it is poorly created or composed. In the video _[TF2] 2020 Q&A for No Particular Reason,_ SoundSmith says it best, "Sound design is kind of like CGI in the 2000s and 2010s, right? People only ever knew it existed if it was bad. If you do your job right as a sound designer, nobody knows you exist."
Ya it really works any you can feel the emotions of the characters and the scenes with the music. It's not perfect. Best example is baby driver, but it's still amazing for not being done by a studio. It's just like what tipsy duck does
i'm disappointed that nobody praises the physics incredibly real, yet with just a dash of tf2 cartoony-ism (is that a word?) like that piece of train sailing through the building at 10:33
Heavy moved the King chess piece to the front, because he believes that true leaders lead from the front. Which is also why he was willing to put his life on the line to stop the train and save everyone.
@@kitcam5608 Actually, FIDE regulations require the king to be larger than the queen in order for the set to be legal for official matches. With that, and the way the pieces are commonly styled, it's pretty obvious that the kings are on the e file while the queens are on the d file like they should be. However, the h1 square is black in both games when it is supposed to be white, indicating that the board was accidentally set up sideways, hence why the queen is not on it's color
With only 6 audible times someone made a sound or spoke, this has more character development and tells a story better than anything else I've seen. Still remains a masterpiece even 8 years later.
McVee is one of the few sfm artists to understand the connect between Video and Audio on the level they do. In this respect, even LazyPurple seems lacking compared to McVee's most basic videos. Man probably asked exactly for what he thought would work in each scene, only moderately course-correcting.
I love how each of the characters look out for each other throughout from Sniper grabbing at Scout when he climbs out the window to Heavy on the train tracks and Scout diving to save Medic
You can tell that they care as well in that when Medic sees Heavy walking to the tracks, he looks scared and looks around for something he can do to help, and when he sees the locomotive flip and the beam disconnect he just stops. He drops his medigun, lets his coat fly off in the wind, and just stands there reaching slightly towards where he just watched one of his friends get crushed beneath several dozen tons of steel. Even when Scout tackles him down to save both of them, Medic doesn't get back up, he just keeps looking at where Heavy was. His world stopped when he lost his friend.
You can even see how hopeless medic looks when the Uber-beam stops, he thinks his best friend died and then he stop caring about his surroundings, and scout has to shove him of of the way.
That whole scene is genuinely one of the best action shots I've ever seen in a movie. Heavy solemnly taking his stand, Medic rushing to uber him, the way Medic's face drops when the medi-beam goes out cause he thinks Heavy's dead...it's just so fucking good.
5:04 y'all see how the sniper get angry when his rearview mirror broke? this sfm level of detail is godly, these dude should help vavle with their animation no joke
I love how a pet store, an orphanage, and a kitten orphanage is conveniently placed right next to an explosives warehouse that is directly connected with train tracks
Everyone's pointing out their favourite little bits, and I want to highlight Scout's face at 5:32 . After getting bounced around, you can see him smile for just a few frames as he gets ready to jump on the train, and it's little details like that which make character animation so compelling. Besides that, the cinematography is stunning. The flare launching into the sky, the introduction with the frozen Sniper, the shot with the forest and Scout on top of the train, and holy shit the Prometheus style running away sequence, the camera movements, the framing, it's all just amazing.

The insane list of things that make me feel like this was made yesterday and not in 2014 (also known as My God, The Absolute Polish On This Thing): - top-notch lighting and shading - snow effect - steam rising from BLU Sniper's mug - the attention to detail on all the outfits - the tiny text on dials and levers and the like - hilarious little lore details (Saxton Hale bobblehead! Archimedes! the faint Team Fortress logo on top of Sniper's campervan!) - the amount of work put into the music and sound effects - how fluid all the character movement is (Scout is particularly impressive with all the running and jumping) - how goddamn FAST they made that train move - how good the expressions are (that "oh, shit" look on Sniper's face is great) - the detail on even relatively tiny things such as the chess pieces and cats (and the eye twitch from Medic that absolutely _sends_ me every time) - how dialogue is completely unnecessary because of the great storytelling - even though the movement is very fluid all the characters move in a way that makes sense for them (Scout is all limbs, Soldier moves very directly, Spy is graceful, etc.) - the attention to the touch of comedy provided by Soldier - the amazing camera work (particularly during the train chase) - the fact that the bomb key has a little rail crossing symbol on top (the DETAIL, people) - the rain of squeaking rubber ducks offsetting the drama - the fact that the BLU Spy turning up is a complete surprise - the hilarious reminder that Sniper is still stuck halfway up the mountain
End of the line is beautiful, and Canon apparently, so this means (in canon): Medic and Heavy play chess together Heavy isn't seen as a good ally much. Pyro owns a cat. The blu team fail. Spy is actually competent when on red team. Soldier cares about orphans and cats.

I really love the idea of the BLU team's classes having slightly different personalities, despite being from the same clone batch of the original mercs I wish I could've said this 8 years ago, when this thought first crossed my mind but I was too fucking stupid to even formulate it. Feels weird that I barely remember this vid despite it(coincidentally) marking pretty much the end of my years of playing TF2. I think they also disabled custom texture and sound support shortly after this Edit: Holy shit, this was the end of the line for my time with TF2
9:40 The most epic scene in all TF2 SFM animations. The fact that all this animation lacks of dialogue and depends on body language and facial expressions makes it even more symbolic and every visual element and sound composition builds up to make a Marvelous and pleasurable story to watch. I honestly downloaded this soundtrack on my ITunes.
Jesus, this is like a Pixar short. The amount of emotion and story you managed to convey without a single word of dialogue...absolutely incredible. There’s not a single thing I didn’t like about this.
9:09 you can see that the Engineer never actually carry his Stuff by just one hand... also he always look a bit upward when carrying... Hinting that the engineer was quite incompetent at his job which makes him a spy.
@@thatredman3639 I thought that 5:55 would be the biggest jump I would see while watching this animation. Clearly, I forgot about commenters jumping to conclusions
Something I’d like to note is how strong Heavy is. Yes, he was ubered when the train hit him, but that was still his body that stopped caused the wreck. In the regular game, ubered classes can still be pushed back, such as an ubered heavy being pushed back by sentry gun fire, albeit a little at a time. This Heavy took the brunt of a train and all the cars behind it, derailing the entire thing. The Uber kept his body alive, and his body alone stopped a train. Absolute mad lad.
This SFM is basicly the meaning of "an image says more than 1000 words" The facial expressions and actions of the mercs says all theyre thinking without a SINGLE WORD. Congrats, this animation is fucking awesome
The mercenaries actually caring for each other and acting like a real team is quite refreshing tbh. A sharp contrast to most portrayals of them where they feel like comic relief gremlins who barely even tolerate each other. Edit: What I meant to say is that the comedy is still present, but much less "in your face" and it just feels more satisfying.
it's not really any fault of the animators, it's how the game's voicelines were made. All of them are either made for insulting others, boasting about themselves, demanding support, etc.
@@nordicdreki2068 There are tons of sweet in-game voice-lines where the mercenaries compliment their own team, you especialyl the "Good Job/Nice Shot/Thanks/" and "Cheer"
Wouldn't you feel similar if you saw a good friend get run over by a train and the only thing preventing him from dying disconnected right in front of your eyes?
Number One- is Sniper okay?? Number Two- Pyro is adorable Number Three- the wholesomeness between Heavy and Medic is unbearably adorable and I appreciate it SO much
i like how concern for sniper just skyrockets at the end of the video, I literally want an entire another video souly about him getting back, and about the train, I want to know what the line was originally used for!
@@Lttsumm the railroad was probably for shipments of rations and stuff while the train itself(if it wasn’t always meant to be the bomb carrier) was probably intended for either an ambush or to send the living beings to red for the orphanage and stuff
Heavy and Medic are wholesome yes, but what about Scout and Medic? Scout grabs pulls Medic to the ground when the train is about to crash so he doesn't get hurt, then he takes a step to stop Spy when Medic is held hostage, and finally he helps Medic up from the ground. Like bruh, for all the "I HATE doctors!" act, Scout really seems to care about Medic
There are so many things I love about this animation. At 0:45, Soldier puts the train plan over a plan for a "stealth pigeon bomb." At 13:10, Sniper wakes up to see this plan put into action. At 5:04, Sniper watches in shock and disappointment as Scout breaks the side view mirror. At 11:57, we get to witness Heavy bend the barrel of a gun 90 degrees in less than a second with a single hand, then proceed to fold Spy's spine in half by driving his whole body 2 feet into the ground, leaving Spy in more shock and confusion than pain.
From what I think when the Engie brings his construction box then he got stabbed off screen by blu spy Edit: at 9:08 the last thing that you see the real engi
If we forget about that he’s a blu spy, then this is an actual good point and FREAKING AWESOME DETAIL WORK, like he did some math or something right after the explosion, he did it so fast and professional that he knew exactly that no one will get hurt.
Another great detail is that the BLU Engineer flinches when Soldier holds up the disciplinary action. Obviously on one hand he lifts it up quite suddenly, but especially when you remember how he uses that in-game...
I finally figured out why this all moves so smoothly and is so nice to watch. Everything has weight to it! They're bumping and falling and not just floating or gliding, the scene with Scout trying to get on the train is probably the best example
5:00 I love watching this sequence of events in slow-mo. Scout looks at Sniper and sees he’s concentrated on driving. He takes the opportunity to jump out the window. As he does, Sniper looks at him, then back to the road, then does a double take as he realizes what the scout is doing and reaches out to stop him from doing something so dangerous. Then, finally, we see Sniper’s expression of outrage and acceptance of his car being damaged.
10:40 This scene alone was just purely amazing. sounded like an actual movie scene. Also, the complete lack of voice acting is just awesome. this would win a Saxxy easily
I remember there being a comment saying "End of the line is the only video where you can take a screenshot at anytime and it could be a desktop background" I dont know who and I cant find their comment But they're right
I just really like the idea that the classes with the best in-game chemistry (Heavy + Medic, Pyro + Engineer for example) are portrayed in shorts/comics as being close friends. It makes me happy.
Technically, pyro saved them. His personally customized shipping crate with ducks in it was the one he lowered back down onto the train, and it was that one that launched and slammed into the bomb crate, causing it to explode mid-air before it could hit its target.
@We're Lost sorry man but you dont get it he said the cart of the pyro saved them by exploding the other cart with a bomb in its by that logic the rubber ducks would have gone unrecognizable cause they would have basically turned into ash
This entire cinematic should've been its own gamemode called "Train Sabotage", where you're actually in the train, and the red team would start at the last cart, while the Blu team would start near the front. The red team would have to capture 5 control points, (so 5cp and 1 control point for each cart). Despite the fact that the trains would have to be a quite comically large, by themselves they would be too contained, so there'd probably be a lot of hand-built wooden platforms and/or outer railings on the sides. You could also go on the roofs of the train carts too, (though not every cart will have a roof, and one of the control points would be open with few barricades/storage crates for cover). The time limit would be continuous, (but it would be long enough to be reasonable), and as the time goes down the background would slowly change. It would start at the snowy area, to the mountains, and very slowly have the sunset start to fade in as it then goes into the tunnel, then after emerging it's the warm forest area. If the time were to run out, it would ram right into the barrels of dynamite and explode the whole town, (and despite there being the orphanages, it could be said that they were evacuated as a precaution if the red team were to fail). I also think it'd have to be 9v9, (18 players), where every player would have to excel at only 1 certain class, meaning no multiple of the same classes. (It would be kinda a pseudo-competitive). Because I just feel that 12v12 would just be too much. These are just some thoughts I had after rewatching this SFM, even though there's probably a lot of flaws with them, I still think that with enough polish it could be something. Open to criticism on my ideas, and I'm curious as to what else anyone can come up with.
Yes that's what I thought, because I didn't watch till the end last time. I watched it again, and I was kinda surprised that they put a failed plan Into action.
this entire sequence at 3:14 is actually brilliant. The attention to detail, the angles, the shots. Sniper and Scout just standing motionless in shock and dismay as the train blurs past. Absolutely insane.

@@kitcam5608 Actually, FIDE regulations require the king to be larger than the queen in order for the set to be legal for official matches. However, the h1 square is black in both games when it is supposed to be white, indicating that the board was accidentally set up sideways, hence why the queen is not on it's color
With only 6 audible times someone made a sound or spoke, this has more character development and tells a story better than anything else I've seen.

Same, I love moments like that
Eh, well... Nobody's gone to try and help sniper
sniper ok he just still stuck on the cliff
I love how you can feel the power of the train crash from your screen. It's probably the best non-Hollywood visual I've ever seen.

- steam rising from BLU Sniper's mug
- the attention to detail on all the outfits
- the tiny text on dials and levers and the like
- hilarious little lore details (Saxton Hale bobblehead! Archimedes! the faint Team Fortress logo on top of Sniper's campervan!)
- the amount of work put into the music and sound effects
- how fluid all the character movement is (Scout is particularly impressive with all the running and jumping)
- how goddamn FAST they made that train move
- how good the expressions are (that "oh, shit" look on Sniper's face is great)
- the detail on even relatively tiny things such as the chess pieces and cats (and the eye twitch from Medic that absolutely _sends_ me every time)
- how dialogue is completely unnecessary because of the great storytelling
- even though the movement is very fluid all the characters move in a way that makes sense for them (Scout is all limbs, Soldier moves very directly, Spy is graceful, etc.)
- the attention to the touch of comedy provided by Soldier
- the amazing camera work (particularly during the train chase)
- the fact that the bomb key has a little rail crossing symbol on top (the DETAIL, people)
- the rain of squeaking rubber ducks offsetting the drama
- the fact that the BLU Spy turning up is a complete surprise
- the hilarious reminder that Sniper is still stuck halfway up the mountain

"End of the line is the only video where you can take a screenshot at anytime and it could be a desktop background"
I dont know who and I cant find their comment

10:29 I can never get over this shot of Scout shoving Medic down just before a train sweeps right through where he was standing.
I love Heavy's and Medic's little friendship in general. *it's adorable*
I especially enjoy how even though Medic/Heavy and Scout/Sniper annoy each other sometimes, they still get the job done when it needs to be done.
I just really like the idea that the classes with the best in-game chemistry (Heavy + Medic, Pyro + Engineer for example) are portrayed in shorts/comics as being close friends. It makes me happy.
Or gay
@@Souseywousey5697 yeah, that too (´。_。`)
@pokemonlover696969 *YOU, YA TINY **_BITCH_*
Technically, pyro saved them. His personally customized shipping crate with ducks in it was the one he lowered back down onto the train, and it was that one that launched and slammed into the bomb crate, causing it to explode mid-air before it could hit its target.
But what was sent back was a crate full of ducks and one payload bomb😅
@We're Lost sorry man but you dont get it he said the cart of the pyro saved them by exploding the other cart with a bomb in its by that logic the rubber ducks would have gone unrecognizable cause they would have basically turned into ash
@@dynax1331 but that was literally what happened if you watch the scene you can see pyro's cart hitting the one with the bombs.

you can't follow the damn train, because the train ain't here no more.

2:49 I do not recommend flying on a plane that belongs to an airline called Icarus.
This is probably one of the smartest comments i’ve seen in a long time
this comment reminds me of the sfm turbulence
Don't worry, you won't be doing it for long
Worst case scenario it crashes in the Siberian mountains and is filled with honey
Icarus: Hey! Look at me, look at me!
The Sun: You have officially gone too far, buddy.
I want this now.

to be fair this doesn't have just one main character
Graphiteguy x or spy
It's because everyone and their dog can do a good scout impression.

this entire sequence at 3:14 is actually brilliant. The attention to detail, the angles, the shots. Sniper and Scout just standing motionless in shock and dismay as the train blurs past.
