Huge help. Sometimes the simplest solution is the right solution! I literally spent 2 hours trying every configuration on the tv inputs and receiver programing and all I really needed to do was plug the dang stick directly into my receiver 🤦♂️
The main thing here is the Amp/ Receiver/ Home Cinema has too have an output too the TV. My Sony DAV-F200 2.1 system only has one hdmi so clearly can’t work, seems I’m due an upgrade. Cheers 🍻 for the upload, at least it has given me a clear way to do it. 👍🏽

Really good video, thank you..I do have a question. I have set up my Amazon stick and AV receiver in the way you've shown. I've wired my rears, centre and sub to the AV receiver. I have a stereo amp which I've wired my fronts to. The stereo amp is connected using the line 1 channel to the pre out on the AVR. However, I'm not getting sound from the fronts. I setup my Fire TV 4K using your directions, very understandable and straightforward. I am not sure if this is a problem with my settings or a limitation with the equipment, I am using ONKYO RC-898M av receiver. The volume will only adjust (or mute) with the IR signal, is there any setting on the Fire TV that will adjust the volume without using the IR signal? Thanks for any help you can provide.

People should be made aware it is only a virtual Atmos you cannot get Dolby Atmos not unless you've got yourself a premium TV, plus the best input on the back of the AVR for a 4K stick would be sa/cd for superior audio! Hope that helps

@@ginnyphillips4464 Alexa this Alexa that... can't blame you for asking. No! I don't think you can change the wake word for Alexa but mind you if you were using hey Google then that wake word could be changed, not officially of course but there is a workaround for that one.

All nice if you've got up-to-date equipment. I use a Blu-ray player as the receiver which doesn't have HDMI input, but does have Toslink input. But my TV will only give 5.1 through the optical output from its (very limited) built-in apps. Anything that comes in through HDMI is only output as stereo. I have a Denon AVR-2309ci Going to a Old Panasonic Plasma TV. Love the TV. What I've found is that the Denon HDMI port says "monitor out" but does not say (ARC) but the old TV Does. Your video was great and explanations clear. MY AV receiver is a Yamaha RXV581...with a very similar port layout as your example. I connected my TV's ARC HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the AVR, and then connected the FireCube to the same 4K enabled port on the AVR as shown in video. My problem was that with those connections I could never see the FireCube Setup Screen on my Samsung TV. The only way I could see the FIRECUBE setup was by connecting the FireCube directly to an HDMI port on the TV. I was then able to complete the setup...but I could not get the sound to run through the AVR. I even tried reconnecting the HDMI cable between the FireCube & AVR, but I lost the TV video altogether. Any thoughts of what else I might try? [My TV is a Samsung KU650D] Thanks
Thank you for the kind remark. We in fact just verified the process to make this work. Naturally, please ignore any individual step process which you know you've already enabled etc: 1. Turn on TV, enable the ARC feature within TV's menu settings. Then, using the TV's remote, set the TV's input source to the HDMI ARC input. 2. Turn on AVR and enable ARC feature. Demo: ua-cam.com/video/zlSjN5Z5wHM/v-deo.html 3. Connect Firecube to available port on back of AVR, plug in power adapter of Firecube and set input of AVR to that port.

Hello, I actually did this instinctively and have a similar AVR, also from Yamaha, the RX-V579. However, I encountered a weird problem, that amazon weren't able to help - they only said they guarantee the firestick would work fully, hooked straight to the TV's HDMI. So, here's my issue : tv (an old sony) is hooked to the AVR both with HDMi and Toslink. To listen to any sources that isn't directly hooked on the AVR, the toslink sends the sound (such is the case of my PS2, still there). When I hook the firestick on tv, I have to set the amp on AV1, the toslink source... for sound. It works fine, and accepts the firestick setting of "best sound'... Only issue is to have the AVR timer and to listen to something, with no TV image : it's impossible in this setup. I tried firestick HDMi on the AVR... and here, there is the issue that if firestick's on "best sound", I cannot use any of the preset sounds (no cinema, stereo etc, only Straight). The Straight can be undone and to use any preset if I change settings into " dolby digital plus" , so A), are these issues normal ? B) are there workarounds I cannot guess (I tinkered with settings also in Yamaha AVR but didn't find anything helpful). Any ideas ? thankx a lot in advance, for any answer : )

Could use some help. I have a gen 1 firestick, a sony receiver (da4600es), and im intermittently losing signal. When it's working, everything is working fine; there is image and audio. If you plug in an Amazon Fire TV device into an AVR like the one you used in your video, will Alexa be able to switch inputs on the receiver to go from cable box, to fire tv, etc like it could if it was connected to a TV?
seagull41 Yes, all devices will have to be plugged into the AVR. If it were me I’d only use the function to connect devices that lack HDMI-CEC. In theory anything with CEC would switch to the proper input when powered on. Don’t quote on it, but also in theory you’d likely lose the ability for the FTV to switch TV inputs on voice command, TV volume, and if the receiver isn’t an HDMI CEC device the ability to power on the TV (not 100% sure about the last one). Otherwise if you want to control the TV directly, the FTV needs to be plugged into a TV input along with the cable box.

I have this set up at home but I can only use the remote for volume when the receiver is on. When is off I can still use the cube but the remote won’t turn the tv volume up or down.

@@brianconley1732 Unfortunately the Harmony 650 is infrared only, so the only way to control the Fire TV stick is through HDMI CEC. I confirmed this works when the Fire TV stick is connected directly to the TV, however, there is a noticeable lag as the TV has to relay the signal. I don't know if HDMI CEC will work when Fire TV is connected through the receiver, but I would expect it would not work. The best option to control a Fire TV stick is with a Harmony Elite remote, since it support BlueTooth, WiFi, and infrared. The cost of that universal remote is much more than Harmony 650 though.

Trying to connect fire TV to tuner amp. I have connection ports on both. TV has audio out. Tuner has TV/DBS. Three connection each place. I have a three lead cable fully connected. DIsplay & Sound under settings on TV had Audio Output. This has TV speakers (on or off), Digital Audio Format (PCM, Dolby digital, Auto), and Bluetooth. CAN NOT get sound to Tuner. Ideas?
Nicely done video. You dont speak to how or if the Firestick Remote will turn on/off the receiver and if it will control the volume on the AVR. You have to use two remotes in this set up - am I correct on that?

If you have a projector would you have to use the optical port for your audio. I don’t have ARC.

Does plugging the firestick into the receiver make it possible to power it on/off, or allow you to control the volume or inputs using dot or other Alexa device?
Hi i wanted to buy the amazon fire tv stick for my 5.1 home theater with a beamer.
My beamer is mounted on the roof so it is impossible for me to connect it to the av receiver on the floor.
How can i do that now ?

Could use some help. I have a gen 1 firestick, a sony receiver (da4600es), and im intermittently losing signal. When it's working, everything is working fine; there is image and audio. My connection setup is the following: firestick is plugged into HDMI 1 of the receiver, and my tv is plugged into HDMI A (out). Could this be an issue with my receiver being too old? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ordered Marantz sr5015 expecting that would fire all the 5.2.1 speakers that I have. Can some one reply to this question? If you plug in an Amazon Fire TV device into an AVR like the one you used in your video, will Alexa be able to switch inputs on the receiver to go from cable box, to fire tv, etc like it could if it was connected to a TV?

Yes, all devices will have to be plugged into the AVR. If it were me I’d only use the function to connect devices that lack HDMI-CEC. In theory anything with CEC would switch to the proper input when powered on.
Don’t quote on it, but also in theory you’d likely lose the ability for the FTV to switch TV inputs on voice command, TV volume, and if the receiver isn’t an HDMI CEC device the ability to power on the TV (not 100% sure about the last one).
Otherwise if you want to control the TV directly, the FTV needs to be plugged into a TV input along with the cable box.

WOW I would have NEVER thought about putting the Amazon stick in the receiver. How would you connect a blu-ray? I have RC cable, would you connect the blu-ray RC cable from the blu ray to the receiver and blu-ray?
I am using an optical cable to connect the receiver to the LG tv. I put the fire stick in the hdmi port in the receiver I which I get sound through my speakers but no video on the tv.

I have this set up at home but I can only use the remote for volume when the receiver is on. When is off I can still use the cube but the remote won’t turn the tv volume up or down.

@@brianconley1732 Unfortunately the Harmony 650 is infrared only, so the only way to control the Fire TV stick is through HDMI CEC. I confirmed this works when the Fire TV stick is connected directly to the TV, however, there is a noticeable lag as the TV has to relay the signal. I don't know if HDMI CEC will work when Fire TV is connected through the receiver, but I would expect it would not work. The best option to control a Fire TV stick is with a Harmony Elite remote, since it support BlueTooth, WiFi, and infrared. The cost of that universal remote is much more than Harmony 650 though.

Trying to connect fire TV to tuner amp. I have connection ports on both. TV has audio out. Tuner has TV/DBS. Three connection each place. I have a three lead cable fully connected. DIsplay & Sound under settings on TV had Audio Output. This has TV speakers (on or off), Digital Audio Format (PCM, Dolby digital, Auto), and Bluetooth. CAN NOT get sound to Tuner. Ideas?

Nicely done video. You dont speak to how or if the Firestick Remote will turn on/off the receiver and if it will control the volume on the AVR. You have to use two remotes in this set up - am I correct on that?
