Between Suicide Squad, Arkham Shadows being a VR-only game, and MultiVersus bombing twice, it's a really bad time to be a DC fan. WB Games needs new upper management.
Zazlov is such an idiot. He's added a new soulless vision to the future of Warner Bros all so he can say he's "saving" (when everything is failing it's not really saving)
Par for the course really. What major franchises from major companies haven't we seen made exploitative or poorly developed. Unfortunately the name brand itself should be warning sign itself for caution.
When F2P doesn't mean F2P, just sell the fucking game for an upfront cost. Your company won't die because you aren't pulling in fortnite and Roblox numbers. Not everyone can be in first place... Thats why it's first place.
Unfortunately that isn't true for modern "AAA" or, god help us all, "AAAA" companies. They have to show a constant growth in profits or their investors get pissy. Then they start mass layoffs to pump those fake numbers and it's downhill from there. The top modern game publishers are in an untenable death spiral of constant "NUMBERS GO UPPPPP!" mentality.
It's tajen people this long to realize F2P is a scam lmao I find that hilarious. Or society is screwed, because this shit should be common sense. Destiny expansions used to cost 40 bucks for everything, soon as the game went F2P the expansions went up to 100 dollars even for people who already paid full price for the game. All this junk is a scam but nobody wanted to say anything before, so welcome to our new reality.
@@iank472 I have a huge resentment towards investors and shareholders. They're greedy morons who demand never-ending stock growth, which is impossible because that's not how stocks work.
I'm not going to do the Pheneas and Pherb meme, but this is infact the second game in this year where the joker takes an unreasonably long time to unlock. Edit: *Phineas and Ferb. Oops, my bad.
The "2 nickles but still weird it happened twice" one? Yeah, I can imagine the pain of the grind. Though for those who really want him, I guess you could say, the joke's on them at this point.
The game that had a battle pass in beta, had a 100 dollar version, and removed itself from steam and made it unplayable for people that paid money for it is egregiously monetized? No, it couldn’t be.
It never removed itself from Steam. Or any storefront. In-game servers just went offline so you’d only be able to access the training mode. The wording is misleading here
LOL. Man i do hope you are sarcastic. But given the general stupidity of some segment of players nowadays, there is a 50/50 change that you are actually serious @@MichaelMitreski
Remember in Super Smash when you had to complete certain criteria to face a hidden character. The reward you would feel just accomplishing the steps, which weren’t too bad or long, and then going toe to toe with the comp to unlock the character. I miss those days.
@@ZayaVII Technically speaking neither is Multiversus when in order to do much of anything beyond playing a handful of the roster you’re encouraged to pay. For someone who has the time to grind to that extent, that may not be an issue. But for a lot of people there just isn’t that kind of time available
I mean I guess they think kids these days will have nothing better to do but play the game for hours and unlock but kids these days don’t have the attention span to stay locked in for the time it takes to unlock even one. There’s so much being thrown at them in terms of grabbing their attention. Meanwhile adults who grew up with these characters don’t have the time to ever unlock one and can see the cash grab for what it is.
Just under 30 hours and I’ve earned enough fighter currency for 4 characters, grind is still too long but this comment is a big stretch unless you’re talking about small ahhh indie games
2-5 hours per character maximum for it to be fun for me. Anything higher than that loses my interest instantly simply because I'm a grown up and I have a life.
Well, it actually is 2-5 hours if you spread it out over 2-5 days. You get tons of rewards for logging in and doing daily challenges. WhyDo blatantly ignored that
@@dylqn55 I've been playing it five days and the most I've gotten is useless exp points, and a mere 100 of the purple gems you need to actually unlock characters (of which you need 1000).
I had many people saying "oh it's free" when I pointed out how insane they are. But the worst thing I just realized is that if you wanted to play with local friends, you're going to have to work yourself to the bone just to make sure your friends can play the characters they wanted. At least in Smash bros playing with friends still worked towards unlocking characters!
They've said they're fixing the local play issue. Not sure why it's there to begin with, seems a lot easier to fix than the missing settings, but still
I remember when they announced Mark Hamil as the Joker, I though they couldn't possibly fuck it up again with all the time and the support they had. I forgot this is Warner Brothers. My bad.
This is 100% by design. It is more profitable to push out a half-baked game, load it with monetization, and then kill it because of "unpopularity" than a product that lasts years.
Normally but we're talking about the competitor to Smash Bros, with IPs that non-gamers love. They're gonna blow their one chance to get SSB players. WarnerBros you suck
When people talk about the good old days of unlocking things with gameplay they're talking about getting fighting game characters by beating the game, Goldeneye cheats by speedrunning levels, or even getting perks for achievements like a good Resident Evil grade.
It’s only good cuz of the hype, but like Multiversus’s “full” release, they add in the content much later. Not to mention, the voices are just basically recycled quotes from certain episodes of most series. Smash Bros flash game looks 10x better than either of them.
Anything Ubisoft or WB makes is an instant skip for me. I might pick up some of their games for five bucks out of morbid curiosity down the line. But the days I expected any intention from them of entertaining their audience, instead of maximizing "engagement" are long gone.
WB has been on my ban list since they refused to fix PC ports years ago and have never made anything worth my time to even consider giving their games the time of day.
People forgot that Rematches were best-2-out-of-3 and you had the ability to change your character in-between. So like if you lost cause your 2v2 team got hard-countered the 1st match; you could change for the next match.
20 full rifts for agent smith. There's only 3 available. So you have to do basically every rift the maximum amount of times, increasing the difficulty level, which requires more grind for gems to upgrade your average power level and results in you fighting genuinely unfair and broken AI including in 2v1s
Don't forget if you die too many times you can PAY gleamium to get more!

@@WinstonWolfe21 They're fun for me. Playing them ONCE! But it's another form of grind. Play it again and again in increasing difficulties without any significant changes to keep them interesting... Come on...
I cannot describe how much I despise progression locked exclusively behind daily “tasks”. The way it forces you to play a specific way that you don’t want to, like playing a different character, is so infuriating. If I’m not having fun, why am I playing the game?
The thing is what they don't understand, is casual players will not grind out a fighting game. It has to have variety, something like fortnite, to justify 35 hours of play time for one character. Even if you owned everything in the game, you wouldn't want to play it that long. Fighters get old fast.
For casuals. I have thousands of hours in fighting games because getting better is part o f the experience n learning things n the act of fighting someone. But I see your point. Like I find shooters hella boring n asyms too but ppl still spend hours on them not gonna knock em
I mean the statement was fighters get old fast as it’s own sentence. Even tho I agree with the casual take I’m just saying it doesn’t for some. Lol relax
More and more games seem to be made specifically for streamers to popularize, and turn on a money faucet, instead of being made for people to buy and have fun with.
Nothing says fun like grinding in a game. After a hard day of the work grind, it’s fun to come home and continue that grind in your living room. Sure you could get enjoyment out of just playing games and forgetting everything, but it’s nothing like having to do repetitive task for Pittence just to unlock another grind. Yay…fun…
I bought the battlepass in the beta and started grinding it. Now that the game came out I only have one skin from it and it was one of the skins you get in the middle of it. I’ve contacted support and showed them evidence of me having those skins back then. No word from them yet….
If I had a Nickle for every time Joker was locked behind a grindy battle pass. I'd have two Nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice in the same year.
I didn't even pay much attention to the microtransactions. I deleted it because every match turns into a flippin juggling match: the fastest air combos win every time.
I mentioned this on your previous MVS, but please look into and talk about how they are keeping quiet about many beta/founder players missing items they bought and/or earned. Potentially 100s of dollars and hours have just gone "missing", yet they haven't made any reasonable open acknowledgements. Also, even support tickets lead to silence. On the off chance someone gets a response, it is a bot that basically tells you that you are screwed. This is insane.
This happened to me. I bought the Get Schwifty taunt for Rick Sanchez during season 1 and now that the game is back I no longer have it. Sent a support ticket and I just got a bot response asking me to make sure I logged into the right account. More people need to be talking about this.
We'll never be over this until either people stop buying these types of games, or they keep failing enough to the point it's not worth it for publishers to fund them
Don’t let that tweet fool you, everything else in the video is true but it doesn’t take anywhere even close to 38 hours for one character. Less than 30 hours in I’ve gotten enough currency for just under 4 characters
Note regarding the weekly mention at 8:00 onwards, it appears that daily and weekly missions are different for each person. When trying the game out myself I got a weekly mission "Play 10 matches with characters from Steven Universe" and never got one regarding Joker. I didn't own any Steven Universe fighter, so this could lead to the argument that they are making weekly missions that force you to buy certain fighters in order to get them done.
I remember hearing about the game making a comeback and just laughed. I remember an MMO called Bless that was so bad that it relaunched three times and failed every time due to a lack of content, unfair dungeon bosses, and immense monetization. Oh, and it had the beloved "chance of successful infusion" when upgrading your gear stats
I feel like the devs are not to blame here. Warner Brothers is. They got so freaking greedy that's disgusting. Even if the closed alpha was a bit unpolished, the hitboxes were so simple, the game was fun and I enjoyed it. Beta started good then it became worse and worse. This release... in a few ways, fun, but they removed so many things I didn't want to believe what I'm seeing! Or not seeing. Well at least they made the monetization MUCH worse in exchange. The removed features just... blows my mind. Such basic things are not there anymore and it's the final release! What was the point of the beta then?
Fuck no, dev's are not to blame for shit like this. Upper management, publishers, the shareholder market, but not the fucking people who get forced to make this shit to make a living, no.
You know, we’ve been defending developers for years, and in return we’re being called entitled for simply wanting finished products, we’re being manipulated, scammed and lied to on every corner. The truth is, devs ain’t our friends, well at least the ones that are involved in projects like this, sure they are doing their job, but if their job is to take advantage of me I have an issue with that, also, many many developers, boot lickers and career men are fully on board with all of this. I’m done making excuses for people that profit off destroying my hobby.
I don't see anywhere on the games page that the game is incomplete and additional features are still being worked on. It sounds like the advertised a complete product, when in fact it's not. Publishers and companies should not be legally allowed to do this!
@@Mikebritt43 You're complaining about them selling an incomplete product when they are not selling the product. It has mobile game monetization because it basically is one.
@@LloydTheZephyrian False advertising feels like a huge stretch to me, it's a free game missing quality of life stuff that it will get. It sucks that they couldn't reimplement every minor feature from the beta but to say it should be illegal for them to say it's version 1.0 is such a ridiculous exaggeration.
This is one of those situations where I want the game to succeed because it seems like Player First Games really does care about the players and making the game good, but Warner Bros obviously does not. All they want is money. So at this point I think the gameplay issues will be fixed soon, but the scummy microtransactions will not.
Hey they are learning how to make money from these horrible bundles people buy it they keep doing it remember games nowadays are trying to last forever to keep getting money forever hence why the complete game is priced out
Turns out while most of the problems come from the devs a lot of this falls on WB since the game was actually rushed out sadly. I want this to work and I do have fun playing it and the devs stated they’ll fix a lot of the issues in an upcoming patch this really should’ve been a party game instead of live service
It's already a lazy effort. There are so many reused assets and attack animations. Shaggy, Wonderwoman, and Joker all have the same up attack. Shaggy, Wonderwoman, Joker, Reindog, and about 4 other characters have the exact same forward special. Joker's aerial down special is Velma's. Banana guard and Jason have the same up air. Only 26 characters in the game, and they're already reusing SO MUCH, it makes me think they have no original ideas. If the new characters come out and share ANY moves with an old character, I'm done.
@@THEGREATMAX technically not all of them share the same animation most of them are different but I’ll admit some are more similar than others. Rn with the current state of the game it’s just sad
It really isn't. It would've been for a small indie team of 3-5 people with a big project or if they had to switch to a fundamentally different engine, but that's not the case here. Idk why they decided they need UE5, but it was probably a management decision to use the modern technology, which should be more optimized.
Because they didn't switched. Not really, what they did was just update the engine version. The only scenario that would be problematic is if the target version they wanted to switch to was several versions ahead of the current one. The game has bigger issues than that IMO, the main one being that they unironically thought they could be on par with Smash by making a clone of it that plays and looks worse than the 23 year old Gamecube installment and it's supposed _differentiator_ mechanic is team battles that where already a thing in Smash since the N64 title.
It's an absolutely massive shame that they ended up going this route. The beta for the game was amazing and beloved. It was a lot of fun to play, so it's baffling that they'd ruin what they had for nothing. I don't want it to fail, I really hope it succeeds, but they're gonna have to try really hard to fix things.
Again, the game at launch has a Dexter's Laboratory Stage and a Townsville Stage, but Dexter and the Powerpuff Girls are not playable Fighters. I could accept this, but many other characters like Bugs Bunny, Superman, Jason and Iron Giant, do not have their own home stages, this game was released unfinished.
I like the idea that games like Smash Bros did so well and tied monetization and unlocks with traditional practices. But other companies look at it and say “But it could’ve made mooore money” and try this practice that theoretically could make them more profit, but just winds up bringing the ire of customers and does more harm than good
There’s a lot of things wrong in this I wanna point out The monetisation is nowhere near as bad as Battlefront 2, BF2 is practically P2W given the star card system making your character completely busted As far as the battle pass? It’s one of the reason Reddit is not a useful source, you’re not getting 1 or 2 levels a day, Im on tier 20 and it’s only been a week
I Remember seeing someone bring up a comparison to unlocking Mewtwo in Melee. Mewtwo still took about 20 hours play time to unlock. Difficult yes, but no where near unreasonable.
In regards to Melee Mewtwo, you don't have to do any grinding to get him if you have more than one controller. If you wanted, you could just start a match with 2 or more player-controlled characters, leave your system on, do literally anything else, and burn the hours needed to unlock Mewtwo.
Game devs got too used to not having a finished game at launch and just send shit out and patch it over like, 3 years to finally finish the game. I really miss the PS1/2 era where if the game had problems at release, it either died, or it cost the company money to send out newer versions of the game. Really made the devs double check if their shit worked before sending it out
Unfortunately games are costing more money on average nowadays and publishers are even more beholden to shareholders who want that ROI immediately. Like what happened with Cuberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Red was forced to release the game when they did or risk losing their funding. This is something which really needs to change.
Yea ever since console games could be updated I knew it would eventually become a slippery slope. The tool to help fix issues within your game has become a crutch. Companies abuse this helpful feature to give you an incomplete and/or bug riddled mess of a game at full price with the promise of fixing it and that could take weeks, month and even years to do. Back in that era when consoles couldn't be updated, there was some measure of quality control, in this day and age though the gaming customers buys the game and play tests it for the companies.

@@BodharasAlso don't forget, before online updated and patches, developers were forced to finish their games since there was no way to fix them later. Now the mentality is, release it in a beta state for full price, we might fix it later but not guaranteed. Just remember Cyberpunk 1.0... it was a broken mess. But most games are like that. Just maybe not that bad.
Warner Bros. hates money. A Smash Bros. style game with Warner Bros. characters had so much potential, but they screwed everything not only by going the live-service route, but also for doing it terribly. You can add Daffy Duck, Scorpion, Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, Walter White, no matter who, characters will only make people play the game for a while, to make them keep playing, no ammount of famous characters will help.
That's exactly it. You draw in numbers with new characters, but what keeps people engaged and playing is fair progression and reasonable monetisation. This game doesn't have that.
@@gatowololo5629 with how many times this shit happened in various ways over the last decade+ ... there is nothing more to be surprised about how shitty big companies have become ... at this point i'd be rather surprised if a company announced something longterm good for both costumers AND employees ...
I'm in no way defending the scummy way they went about monetizing the game with this relaunch, but I can say from personal experience that the "77 hours" claim was something that poster pulled out of their ass. I've been playing the game on and off with a friend the last few days. On launch day, it calculated that I had maybe a few hundred of the new fighter currency from the beta, which I spent maybe 150 hours in altogether across all platforms. Since the relaunch, I've put in around 13 hours. In that time, I was not only able to amass enough currency to afford Joker, I already have almost 3K built up toward the next character that releases. A grind, yes, but nowhere near the time quoted. For the record, we haven't been going for anything specific in terms of dailies, events, etc. It's mostly been 2v2s and claiming whatever we happen to unlock in the process. Granted we already had basically every character unlocked from the beta and some of what we're claiming is tied to using certain characters. But the amount of times that's been the case has been negligible at best. The grind is still a issue, but it's *nowhere* close to the problem it's being made out to be. 77 hours is complete bullshit. I may not be pleased with everything the game is doing now, but I'll defend it when it's fair.
It's front-loaded from early account levels I hit 9k really quickly and I'm just barely scraping towards 11 now. They're not stupid - they've planned this to trick us into thinking it's fair so we'll be more inclined to spend money before we all catch on.
This is a little bit exaggerated. Co-Op vs Ai is available through rifts, and its much more feature rich than just fighting some ai in a nothing match to get nothing. Not that theres anything wrong with wanting that feature, I just think that if thats what your looking for theres lots of that available. Since playing the game I've unlocked about 4 characters since launch by just playing after work and a bunch on the first day which I had off. The game is much more fair than league or dota, or any game built like this. I do think that the grind could be shortened slightly, but between character levels and the battle pass, and when the characters rotate youll get new characters to both try and level up to unlock more stuff. I do think not being able to practice characters in training is really dumb, but Its also a norm among games like these. If we look and fighting games, the majority of them don't let you test DLC characters before you buy them, and unlike multiversus they usually dont have a free unlock system. Something like SFV which did have an unlock system, had a grind ten times as worse with much less pay off, but I'm not seeing the outcry for that(though SFVI is out now so thats probably why.). If we look away from fighting games, League also doesn't let you test characters out unless you've unlocked them. To call out multiversus when games have been doing this might be justified on some level, but not when you compare it to the games its trying to be like. We've never seen a fighting game with this type of model be successful. Its rarely even been done, and the developers are giving us full transparency about why its happening. They are also working on fixes as we speak, and have even altered maps and gameplay already to make the current patch feel less bad(Removing dexters until they release ranked for players looking for less silly matches, fixing iron giant etc.) I think were in good hands, especially because the game has been out for one week. I speak positivly because the game is fun, and when everything is back feature wise missing from the beta, its going to be on netcode that feels 1000 times better. The netcode is amazing, and unlike other fighting game developers, they are willing to work to make their online the best it can be. It took games like FighterZ 8 years to have good online, while this game released with it. Hell, if we want to compare to something like smash bros this is a slam dunk. Smash bros online will never be fixed, even if they make a new game. The battlepass is NOT as hard as the video says it is to grind. I've played casually over 7 days and I am at level 18 on the battlepass, and tons of new events and gameplay features are already giving us more. Also in the video its stated you need to use movey to unlock agent smith. This is FALSE. You need to complete bosses which arent out. You can get a little bit of leeway with grinding, but money will NOT help you get agent smith early. They definilty should reduce that grind, but money will NOT help you, so don't go spending your gleameum or money on the game if your looking to get him early. I dont know ifs because you didn't do your own research this time or something, but this YongYea video is one of the few times ive seen very little research be put into the social media posts. There are some really valid points, but there is a lot of miss information in this video, or at least things that should be address if you make another. 9:55: Super smash bros allowed steven to remain buggy and unfixed, ruining the competetive scene to this day. Smash bros has had several characters who enter the game broken or unbalanced, and every fighting game releases broken. This is just the natural state of fighting games because its hardt o know every possible interaction a character can have. They are also already fixing this. I would recommend checking videos out by Maxmillian dude when it comes to new fighting game releases, he has gone over well on why fighting games release with broken shit and why its a fun part of the echo system before they patch it out for competition. There is no ranked mode, so some imbalance litteraly hurts no one. Im hype. Okay thats all lmao
Every "legendary" skin in the game has always cost 2000 gleamium. Sure, whatever. But the new wonder woman skin they intentionally marked up to 3100 and then made it on "sale" for 2300 which is just higher than one of the tiers of gleamium you can buy.
Boy, WB Games are having a rough few years. Maybe if they have a CEO who understands the typical gamer, they wouldn't be down the sh**ter right now. Also, they need to release a compilation of Midway classics.
They should want players to unlock as many base game characters as possible, why? Every free-to-play game's bread & butter, skin sales. Make certain characters you know will be popular cheaper on purpose, like Batman and Finn, so they can sell skins and keep newer characters at the higher range, but not the Gleamium price: that 1250 bullshit is to force players to get the higher tiers of Gleamium then they need to get a new character.
Not to mention i had a friend come to my house to play, i played on pc while he used my ps5 and the server connection dropped AT LEAST 10 times, and not only would the server connection fail the game would crash on both steam and on the ps5 at the same time, we needed to boot the game again multiple times.
The monetization and the manipulation in this game go way deeper than most people notice. If you want to play as Agent Smith then you have to get to level twenty of his battle pass. But to go up on that battle pass you have to complete different difficulties of the single player rifts. But the difficulty spike on them is insane, the opponents will do ten your damage making it next to impossible to beat them... unless you buy some power ups in the store. Sure you can earn the power ups in the rifts themselves, but the amount you can earn is basically capped. After that if you want to take on those higher difficulties to get Agent Smith, you have to be godlike at the game, or you have to spend money on buffs. Then there's a battle pass where you rank up by increasing your character's levels. Increasing their levels at the start is easy, but after level three or four, it becomes insanely grindy. Problem is, they introduced this new battle pass after the game had been out for five days, when everyone had already leveled up their characters. So now if you want to increase a character's level, either grind away at them for hours, or buy a new character and get those easy early level ups. You could teach a college course on player manipulation with this game.
One thing I noticed about the beta is that player first games are extremely anti player. They just do whatever they feel and what their bosses want. From buying gleamium and never receiving it, to refusing to add the characters people want, to dropping the game for a year and bringing it back but removing the currency you saved up with only 2 new characters on launch. It's a shame this game ever won fighting game of the year, especially as a beta. Judging it now, it's undeserving. Player first in general is undeserving
Aren't publishers supposed to be "experts" on their field? Like what the point of having some one in charge of selling your hard work if they are gonna take decisions that will maakke you not huts not male as much money but to lose money, at this point when some one says publisher I just roll my eyes expecting a fuck up, because. With so many examples of this happening again and again, I mean even kids know that releasing an incomplete game is WAY worst than delaying it a few months, first impressions are always important.
That’s the sad part. They are. But while Player First Games wanna make something great, the higher ups at WB Games are breathing down their necks to make sure the game makes money. It was even released earlier than the dev’s original anticipation. But they aren’t experts. Otherwise they would’ve foreseen that an idea like this had everyone rallying behind it. Twice. And they STILL fumbled the bag. TWICE.
@@StitchySpooks It's sad, but they really only do care about short term profit, they have no desire to see this be a long lasting and profitable video game. Despite the fact it has the potential to be so.
77 hours, my Stardew Valley playthrough I started recently took me that long to beat the base game, OVER MULTIPLE ENJOYABLE WEEKS. I enjoyed every moment of it. This is 7 hours of content and 70 hours of, I want to quit.
I can't even stay in a match it just says "match desynchronized" sometimes it's immediate other times let's me pay most of the match then disconnects. So frustrating that it still feels like its in beta
And there are STILL people defending this shit. I PRAY they bankrupted themselves to unlock all characters just to have empty lobbies for the rest of eternity
Thank you so much for covering this I love this game but it has so many flaws. The multiverse content creators seem to not care about these scummy monetization tactics and don’t speak out against them. They just brush it off and defend this stuff. The game is so grindy I fear they will ruin it just like SSKTJL, Shadow of war, and MK1. Please don’t let up because the MVS community needs to hear this message.
I am slowly becoming worn out with modern gaming. It's been indie games, visual novels, and the most recent AAA game I bought in a while and fully played through was Alan Wake 2. And, as much as I love Alan Wake 2, there were still glitches that messed up my gameplay flow and content that can't be completed due to bugs. At least the developers have created a really nice and active community they care for, which is always nice.
It reminds me of when sf5 said you could unlock everything with the in game currency, but after you earn all you could off non online stuff (gojng through combo challenges, story mode). The way you got points was a snails crawl. So it was technically possible to unlock the stuff, just took an insane amount of time. This is on another level
Just a little correction, the reason joker is 6k is because he's the newest character. EVERY other character is 3k. This does also mean his real money price is higher too though. $15 for the joker alone and $25 for the "premium" joker pack with the skin and stuff
I’m so glad I brought the founder pack back then during the beta. Still got my old character unlock tokens. I’ll use it for agent smith when he comes out.
It blows my mind how these devs have such a killer game and still keep managing to botch it in some key way each time. First release, great gameplay, reasonable monetization for a F2P. But, the game basically had no match making. Had people getting paired against lvl 100s in their first match. Never fixed it, so it just bled the playerbase dry, and sent it into a death spiral since the bleeding playerbase made the problem worse and worse as the only ones left were the no-lifers with hundreds of levels and hours. Second release, they fixed the matchmaking, the primary concern everyone had... and then completely revamped the game's progression/currency system into an unholy abomination against God that makes Blizzard blush. Completely annihilating the good will they SHOULD have gotten with this re-release. Like, the game is solid. Why is it so fucking hard for them to just not fuck with it? You can't even say it's some corporate mandate either, since clearly they were allowed to launch the game with completely reasonable monetization the first time.
@@BodharasIn the Beta version you unlocked characters insanely fast. According to Steam I put 33 hours into the game and I had almost the characters unlocked just from doing the daily/weeklies and leveling them up for the gold you got from doing so. If memory serves, the only ones I didn't have were Stark and Morty, and that's only because I stopped playing consistently due to the match making problem escalating to the point of absurdity. It stopped being fun being either teamed with or against level 200+ Bugs Bunny main no-lifers in every single game. Aside from the typical bullshit premium currency amounts forcing you to spend just a little bit more to get what you want which has been unfortunately normalized since the Xbox days, the beta's monetization really wasn't anything to write home about. It was pretty bog standard for a F2P, and if anything, it was remarkably generous with how easy it made it to get characters. Which, you know, it should be. Given its a fuckin' fighting game. The new monetization model is a travesty.
Isn't that the Smash clone that got announced on like the day Nintendo announced that Smash Ultimate ain't gonna receive any new updates (beyond balancing for Sora)? I'm like ultra-glad that I boycotted Multiversus lol. WB has pretty much proven the fact that this game's but a cash grab the very instant it was announced lol
Yong, I love your videos but it's clear you haven't played the game. I've logged 24 hours in the game and have the agent smith event pass up to level 8 or 9. I don't know how that guy has only gotten to 2 in such a long amount of time (must have played a lot of PvP). Now don't get me wrong there is a lot of shady shit with the pricing and the game isn't in a good place but the XP and character point gains you were talking about are wrong, that's just from dailies - it isn't including events (three seperate ones currently happening right now) or weekly challenges. I also think the person who made post doesn't know how to claim their dailies properly as there are a second set of rewards. I've been averaging two levels a day. But yes the grind is slow but it's not as bad as these comments on Reddit are making out. No hate, just thought I'd put some corrections out there
It’s even worse a lil over a week and people can’t wait or have patience for a patch, I have 9 characters and I play maybe 8 hours ovr 4 days so this dude is clearly not being honest here
Reason people are upset is that they can't grind out the characters. While the most character currency you get is by doing quests. Just by dailies I could buy 3 characters in a week without grinding. People just want shit now or grind for hours if they have to and then they complain on forums how the game doesn't reward nerding out on a game for 20h straight. I'm not even sure, if online matches reward you anything if you don't get a toast. If so, then no wonder the guy made only 130 currency the entire evening. Also there is a bug that sometimes doesn't give you rewards while claiming rewards from endgame screen. The best way to avoid it is to claim every reward on quests tab. Note that this bug may have HEAVILY skewed the calculations and research of other people. Just to clarify: Not rewarding players after each match is a real issue if true. Players should be awarded for their dedication. Same thing goes for overreliance on quests - it's very miscommunicated and creates a lot of confusion and misguided anger. It should also be addressed, players should never be blamed for something that is told very poorly or not told at all
@@hotafek so to clarify yea is just straight lying and because of that I’ll never click a he made again, like I don’t mind legit criticism but, lying to viewers for hate clicks is just wrong the gaming industry needs help Especially wen indie studios actually give a crap

Why did they even swap to Unreal Engine 5? Swapping so late in development is a death sentence.
As far as the battle pass? It’s one of the reason Reddit is not a useful source, you’re not getting 1 or 2 levels a day, Im on tier 20 and it’s only been a week
I Remember seeing someone bring up a comparison to unlocking Mewtwo in Melee. Mewtwo still took about 20 hours play time to unlock. Difficult yes, but no where near unreasonable.
Well, you had to have a total of 20 hours of in-game time.
Or you could just do a set amount of battles.
@@HarbingerYT You had options yes, but if you are going for the Set amounts of battles, you might as well do the 20 hours.

It’s the game speed for me that I feel the most. The intense fights was something I was highly addicted to.
Game devs got too used to not having a finished game at launch and just send shit out and patch it over like, 3 years to finally finish the game.
I really miss the PS1/2 era where if the game had problems at release, it either died, or it cost the company money to send out newer versions of the game.
Really made the devs double check if their shit worked before sending it out
plenty of older games released unfinished, its not anything new, we just have the internet telling us which games are unfinished now.
Unfortunately games are costing more money on average nowadays and publishers are even more beholden to shareholders who want that ROI immediately. Like what happened with Cuberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Red was forced to release the game when they did or risk losing their funding. This is something which really needs to change.
@@pockettwo it's definitely more common, and becoming normal. He's right though. Old games had bugs, but not nearly as much as today's games do.

It's front-loaded from early account levels
I hit 9k really quickly and I'm just barely scraping towards 11 now.
They are also working on fixes as we speak, and have even altered maps and gameplay already to make the current patch feel less bad(Removing dexters until they release ranked for players looking for less silly matches, fixing iron giant etc.)
I think were in good hands, especially because the game has been out for one week.
If you don't respect a players time you are setting yourself up for failure
I don’t mind paying for skins on these live service games but 20 bucks a skin from everything now is ridiculous
The only thing that's gone Multiversal is the paywall schemes.
Its seems like publishers these days aren't helping make video games and more of just developing ways to turn players into atms?
Thats pretty much the goal for the last couple years.
20 years later, casual player finally unlocks all characters and gain the achievement "I have no life and I must scream"
I know it's probably said a lot...but this feels like order 66 is being executed in the video game industry as a whole.
Not to mention i had a friend come to my house to play, i played on pc while he used my ps5 and the server connection dropped AT LEAST 10 times, and not only would the server connection fail the game would crash on both steam and on the ps5 at the same time, we needed to boot the game again multiple times.
The industry is clearly on his darkest period
Dead By Daylight:
Also I’m missing a lot of cosmetics from early access and beta, which is very scummy.
Warner Bros should've let the devs stay on Unreal 4 if that means keeping all the features intact.
Notice how the problems w/ this game didn't start to arise w/ the beta, but until after the acquisition when Discovery brass started to take over WB.
Yes, they are experts in their field of getting money. This money-production scheme just happens to include a video game.
Jason Voorhees finally leaves legal hell and then faceplants into a grindy monetized mess.
It would have been wierd if WB didnt fuck it up
Especially with David Zaslav around...
77 hours, my Stardew Valley playthrough I started recently took me that long to beat the base game, OVER MULTIPLE ENJOYABLE WEEKS. I enjoyed every moment of it. This is 7 hours of content and 70 hours of, I want to quit.
Hey, I've seen this one!
There are just way to many people who defend corporations.. they need mental help.
still snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
I can't even stay in a match it just says "match desynchronized" sometimes it's immediate other times let's me pay most of the match then disconnects. So frustrating that it still feels like its in beta
If it was working fine in Unreal 4, why switch to 5?
Probably forced by WB
I would like to also know why a game like this needs UE5 over 4
And there are STILL people defending this shit. I PRAY they bankrupted themselves to unlock all characters just to have empty lobbies for the rest of eternity
The game was considered going life support because of the dwindling player base. How could THIS be a good idea given it's current state?
99k lif support let's be real
@@anthonlopez9603 considering how high their peak players were st launch the game dropped a good chunk
Please don’t let up because the MVS community needs to hear this message.
aggreed i love the game to but the grind is absoulte madness it pretty much forces you to pay for the charcters
“Pride and a sense of accomplishment”
Andrew your fired
I am slowly becoming worn out with modern gaming. It's been indie games, visual novels, and the most recent AAA game I bought in a while and fully played through was Alan Wake 2. And, as much as I love Alan Wake 2, there were still glitches that messed up my gameplay flow and content that can't be completed due to bugs. At least the developers have created a really nice and active community they care for, which is always nice.
theres an easy explanation for why those modes and features are gone. theyre going to sell the features back to you
It reminds me of when sf5 said you could unlock everything with the in game currency, but after you earn all you could off non online stuff (gojng through combo challenges, story mode).
Yeesh, that just reeks scummy.
You must do something!
I’m so glad I brought the founder pack back then during the beta. Still got my old character unlock tokens. I’ll use it for agent smith when he comes out.
They took my 15k gold... that's 5 characters worth (more considering some in the Beta were 1.5k)
I played it for about five minutes and deleted it when I saw it was a shell of the beta.
Took longer to install then I played it for.
I hope WB games goes bankrupt. The higher-ups and executives have no idea what they’re doing anymore.
Why would anyone play this instead of smash bros. I dont understand that.
Multiplatform and "free". I'm not defending the game, those are just the only reasons I've got lol
During beta it was fun, multi-platform, great characters, free, and most of all Rollback netcode.
Not everyone has a switch and people enjoy a free game where their favorite characters are not that hard to comprehend
Can't get Smash on PC... legally.
Also some people might want to have various properties fighting each other.
I was 10 minutes into the video while having breakfast when I realized this is not about the Justice League game.
Blame WB
Reasonable monetization? That's a no. Stop normalizing these practices. I hope you're not giving them money. 10 bucks a character is not reasonable.
No hate, just thought I'd put some corrections out there
I’m noticing that too ppl are just spreading straight misinformation
It’s even worse a lil over a week and people can’t wait or have patience for a patch, I have 9 characters and I play maybe 8 hours ovr 4 days so this dude is clearly not being honest here
Right that dudes math sucks because I’ve earned enough fighter currency for multiple characters and I’m nowhere near 77 hours.
Shit like this is why I almost exclusively play indie games now.
All this corporate greed is too exhausting to bother with.
