- “UTMB is not conquerable by a human, it's conquerable by the human spirit. And you need to harness the spirit in order to accomplish the goal.”
Jim Walmsley discovered ultra trail running through an unconventional journey. After participating as a track athlete in high school and college, he transitioned to the military, serving in a nuclear missile silo in Montana. He was eventually dismissed, leading him back to running, where he emerged as one of America's top ultra trail runners.
Following impressive records at the Western States 100, Jim sought a new challenge: the infamous Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB). Despite initial failures, he committed to enhancing his mindset and training, bringing him to relocate to France with his wife, Jess.
In 2023, Jim achieved a historic victory, becoming the first American man to win UTMB in a thrilling mid-race twist. He now joins the ranks of great American women who have triumphed in the race before him.
Watch Jim’s journey to the UTMB podium and beyond in the feature-length documentary: WALMSLEY THE FILM presented by Wahoo + HOKA.

Privilege to be able to watch this for free. What an athlete.
Major respect for Jess as well. Uprooting your whole life to a new continent where you don't speak the language, all to support your partner and their passion is admirable!!
We all know while Jim's a legend, Jess is the real MVP
Best human. Best athlete. Best sport.
coucou simone 👀

@@jakoblangmann9182 good. This is about Jim.
Je pense exactement pareil que toi .
C’est dans ces moments là que je me dis que j’aurais mieux fait d’écouter en cours d’anglais j’aurais peut être tout compris au lieu de la moitié.
I put him second to Alex Honnold in terms of endurance athletes, but yeah he’s the man.
Loved the whole film but the moment when he acknowledged the American female runners who have won the race before him saying "They paved the way" was an absolutely emotional peak of the film. You don't hear male athletes say that every day. Fantastic.
That was beautiful
Well, it's true.. 🧐
Thank you for this film. Thank you for it being free on UA-cam. I love these types of docs where we get to see the human side of our favorite runners.
François crewing him (while he himself couldn't run that year because of an injury) really shows how great of a sport that is and was a highlight of the film to me. Just two of the best athletes in the sport supporting and inspiring each other!
“UTMB is not conquerable by a human, it's conquerable by the human spirit. And you need to harness the spirit in order to accomplish the goal.” What a great perspective to live by.
Never thought I’d cry during an ultra running documentary on UA-cam, but here we are.
When Jim is in the aid station and tells her he’s sorry but he doesn’t think he can hold them off really put a lump in my throat.
What an effort. Great documentary!
Such a wonderful scene! Yes, I was looking for who was cutting the onions.
in that scene I could see myself in 2022 when I was so close of giving up because of stomach aches and cramps. I said to my partner I was going to leave race but she moved me out of the station and put me running in front of her. She was a huge part of my way to Chamonix. It was so inspiring watching a giant like Jim with the same kind of doubts as me, and be able to push forward.
Same 😭
I can’t believe content this solid is being presented to us for free. What a pleasure to watch.
Best running film I've watched in my life, hands down. I teared up when Jim was saying "I'm sorry if I don't hold on" to Jess in 2022. What a unwavering human being, what a fantastic couple!
You’ve conquered your body , you’ve mastered your mind , and you’ve transformed and uplifted our spirits. Thank you Jim for inspiring us with your life. I feel like I can now do a little more tomorrow than I could today . 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
😍😍😍
As Dylan Bowman said: "Trail running will save the world". Realy inspiring film. Thank you, Jim.❤
Ah man that last bit 🥹
This was an incredible documentary! Thank you for sharing it with the world, especially for free. What an incredible accomplishment - and thank you for acknowledging the U.S. women who came before you. This was so beautifully made.
My partner said, “Show me one video that explains what you love so much about ultramarathons.” I showed her this one and it did the trick. She gets it now. Thank you for this beautiful film!
Watching the Jim Wamsley movie on Wahoo. Quote of the day "UTMB is not conquerable by a human but by the human spirit". Best line. Great
Wonderful film. The production team did an excellent job of telling his story.
The athlete, the couple, the team, the path, Savoie.
GO JIM !
One of the best ultra running movies i've ever seen. Got really emotional when Jim left the last aid station. Big role model ✊🏻
Thank you for the film showing what champions are going through. Jess and Jim make a great pair.
Jim is such an inspiration. He's a quirky, comedic, resilient, monster of an athlete and human being that has and no doubt, will achieve so much in the sport. Congratulations on your UTMB victory!
Probably one of the best movies about an ultrarunner!
Absolutely great❤ thanks for Free sharing!
I watched Jim win the UTMB live from Indiana streaming online. Seeing his dedication to the sport and cross training only cemented his achievement to show hard work truly pays off!
the subtitles are killing me. Unintentionally hilarious
Haha the famous At&T 😂
UTMB is in Germany 😃
So beautiful❤ Jim well said about the amazing, strong American women who won before at UTMB.
This is a beautiful film. Lovely couple. His wife makes his soul glow. Bravo!!!
What a treat. Cannot state my appreciation enough. My wife and I split this into 3 sections and looked forward to sharing in this together as the cap to our evening 👍🏼
Enjoyed this so much while recovering right after I finished my first ultra. Now, I dream about being there in Chamonix somday near future. Human sprit is amazing. Anything conquerable by this.
Is it just me or did he have more of a French accent the second year of living there? Makes you appreciate how long it took to film this incredible piece. 👏🏻
Really wonderful. I love this sport. Thank you for making this available on UA-cam. Time to hit the trails.
Gosh, that look at the aid station. I think we have all felt that and it is soul crushing. Pushing through this will humble anyone and make you a better human being.
Frissons pendant, 1h34. Quel film !
Merci de croire en cette plateforme
Thank you for teaching the world how to pronounce Walmsley.
What an awesome journey to an incredible win. Such an emotional film, made me cry. I am running UTMB this August and have learnt a lot from this film, as I won't be able to recee it this will do. Looks amazing, but oh so tough! Thank you.
Though I will never run the pace or journey you have. I live inspired by you sharing your journey with us and letting us tag along to cheer you on.

This was jaw dropping masterpiece. Massive gratitude. So emotional I could felt it all the way. As well as 5☆ effort on editing and story telling part. 🎉❤😊🎉
What an incredible story of perseverance! Truly motivational to learn from our experiences especially when the result is not what you wanted.
"The UTMB isn't conquerable by a human, it is conquerable by the human spirit."
Even though of course I knew the outcome, the 2023 UTMB race coverage was so exciting. I felt like I could feel what Jess went through during that race. Wow - I did not know about . . . well, I don't want to spoil it for others, but the finish line is super special. Thank you!
Really well done film!!! The linearity and progression really culminate into something special.
Those two... you gotta love those two. All the best to J&J.
Lets go Jim!
I love this film, watched it in a few segments, and everytime, i had some time, was very excited to sit down again to see more, really well done! Thanks for posting this and for being so open about your experience leading up to UTMB, it was great to see how you lived and trained!

So proud of Jim and Jess! Thank you for this inspirational film! I'll train harder today!
Jim is so inspiring! Hard earned victories mean so much more and Jim is the man! I cheered him up just before he overtook Zac and he had a smile on the corner of his lips that said: "the game is ON" LEGEND
Man, I loved every single moment of this. It's amazing, I love being an ultra runner and this captured it all....all the things I love about it. Jim is a beast...well done.
This film re-ignites my passion for trail running. Great athlete! Great film!

This was a great video.... and a great athlete
Great film, thanks for having it on UA-cam. Great story, it has been great to see Jim set what seems to be unreachable goals and failing just to keep coming back and learning to finally be rewarded for all the hard work.
Wow! Goosebumps!!
So happy Jim got his win, he really dedicated himself to achieving his goal

Allez Allez Jim !! Congrats, thank you for representing, thank you for making us believe, for inspiring. May this be the first of many. 🙌🏽🔥🇺🇸👏🏽
Love your content, your passion, your abilities, your commitment, your message. I don’t follow to see how fast you race, I follow because of all of that. Nothing but the best for you, you’re running, your channel, and your family. If I can be selfish for a moment, please keep putting out content. But if you don’t, I know you’re just out there living life.
Met Jim and few of his crew at GC. Humble, he is the epitome. Inspirational 🙏🏻
Loved this!! Thank you for taking us on your journey, both the lows and highs. So much inspiration to take from this. I am 66 years old and still out on the trails and have learnt so much from this that’s applicable to my stage of life
Great Film
This film is one of my favorite endurance athlete documentaries I have seen on UA-cam! The camera quality, the absolutely awe inspiring shots of the mountains, and the drone footage was amazing! Well done wahoo + Hoka! Ansel Dickey what an amazing job you did with this film and the photography was just insane! Jim you’re an inspiring athlete and I cannot wait to see how much more you grow as a runner and as a person! @wahoofitness
