- HI everyone join me as I take down this partially dying red oak out on our property! This tree is loaming over our (Future) trail and I wanted to remove it! This bad boy took double stacking wedges to get it to push over! I hope you enjoy this tree felling video! I love managing the woods! In the next video we will buck this up and get it (hopefully) easily back to the homestead to stack and burn next year in our outdoor wood boiler! Thanks for watching!

Damn that thing sounds bad ass
oh yes!
Thank you so much for all the wood boiler related videos. As a new wood boiler user I’ve found your channel and videos to be hugely helpful. Keep it up!
Hey Tek! Thank you for the kind remarks! I am glad to help! Any way I can help I try too!
Great fell!
Check out how to “stack wedges” with the use of a series of plunge cuts. Its a safer way of felling those big dead trees and your wedges wont fly out at you.
Hey Zack! Thanks brother, I got new K&H wedges which stack way better than these cheap echo ones! Just took down a maple tree with them and didnt bounce once! Thanks for tuning in!
Wow, Jay! That was a nail-biter! Didn’t realize how big that tree was until you started your notch cut. I’m wary of taking down snags with limbs hanging on. Great job! I loved the slo-mo and reverse views! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for coming on over! I loved felling this beast!
The slow motion laughs are always a bonus 😂
Yes indeed hahah thanks Jon!
Good take down. I always bury my wedges right until I can't pound anymore before I try to double them up. Can't always do that on smaller trees. But I use two or three and alternate pounding them in all the way until they are sunk. Then if I still need more lift, I double up. And the tree looked like a maple to me.
Hey Derek! Yeah I thought for sure the single wedges would work but guess not haha I looked at the footage again and one limb up top was holding it up ahaha I thought it was red oak but could be maple haha whatever either way its a hardwood and it will burn haha Thanks for tuning in!
didn’t think it was that big until she hit the ground!! tree was well balanced.
It sure was! We got it at the right time, another season it prob would be no good for firewood! Cant wait to haul it out!
That was awesome, nice work with the 590.
Yes it was!
There was nothing stopping that tree from falling. Nice job. Stay Safe😉
Hey Al! Thing was a beast! Im still all excited about it haha I just posted the bucking up video on it so go check it out!
Yeah baby, yeah! Love the rewind!
I sounded German LOL
💥 Fantastic tree cutting video! Love that Echo 590.
*Keep on tractoring!* 👍
Hey Jon! Thanks for the super chat! Much appreciated! Thanks for tuning in!
Oak is incredibly strong. It doesn't take much for it remain. Good video Jay. One of my earlier videos shows me taking down a storm damaged oak. It makes quite a thud when it goes down too.
I agree with you there! Just posted part too! I gave you a shout out too! Thanks for always tuning in!
Nice job felling. Lot of good firewood there
Sure is! Cant wait to bring it home! Just cut it up in today video!
Awesome video Jay. Great job dropping the nice fire wood and hazard tree. Definitely a good idea to drop it. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey there! Yes for sure! Didnt want that snag looming over the trail!
One thing about big Oaks. They clean off other trees on the way down. Love the 590
Oh yes it did! It was the alpha tree in that area for sure! Those 12 inch pines got stripped naked by them haha
Looks like that log me be good for the sawmill
It was too punky for the mill! As it was already standing dead!
Good day Sir 😊 I realy like your reverse video editing Sir👍 ( I will attente that for sure ! ) 😊 A lots of dead limbs falling after 👍😊 Yes once the all tree will be season it will burn very well 😊👍 Have a great week Sir Cheers !!!
Hey Dave! Yes I had some fun editing the video! Man that tree was a ball to drop! It slammed the ground! Did you feel up there? hahah! Just ordered my XL-12 parts to rebuild it!
@@HomesteadJay OK that was cause that little earth quake 🤣 Can't wait to see that XL-12 coming into life !!! Cheers !!!
Bummed I missed the premier! Wedges on wedges on wedges! haha. Good takedown Jay. Lots of firewood in that tree.
Next time! Haha yes thing was massive! Im still pumped about it and it was days ago hahah
Dude that was awesome
That tree doesn’t look like it’s dead maybe just on top
Thanks for sharing Jay
Joe! Its all coming home and well check it out when its all stacked!
That tree was definitely dead
I like this video you did good buddy tgis was a nice tree buddy good jop today good night too you guys buddy
Thanks buddy! Thanks for tuning in for the chat!
Are you ok buddy how you guys doings buddy
Cool! Jay you are doing things just like a UA-cam pro!
Hey Dan! Use the super clean yet? lol thank you! I like the premier! It was cool to be able to chat during the whole video!
Hi Jay, I haven’t yet, we are similar to you temperature wise. I wanted to try it on the stove but my wife said no!😆
Sounded cool 👍
It was just a rain of branches and twigs haha it was awesome!
Debating between the Srihl-MS 271 and the CS-590 Timber Wolf in a 20 or 24 inch bar. 🤔
Echo all the way brother! 20 inch is good bar size. It will pull a 24 but 20 is good!
Oak is wild. Holds like mad. Deeper under cut and use humbolt next time and see how you like that. Good job
Hey there! I am working on tuning in my Humboldt as I normally use a conventional notch but I will eventually be taking down some straight pine for lumber so i need to master the Humboldt for greatest wood yield.
Right on brother Jay 👍. Cut it up , Move it out . See ya at Pt. 2
Right on! Just posted part 2! All bucked up now!
Hey Jay ,wow cool video love the reverse, that's was the best part , German lol.
Hey Linda! Thanks for coming on over! Im glad you like the german lol
Jay nice work getting that big oak down looks like it brought half the forest with it. Love that Echo 590 wish I had one wait I do the Shindaiwa 591 the red step cousin. Really enjoyed the attack of the wedges and the expression on your face. I had the same thing happen in my last video a split flew out of my splitter and took out the tripod. Take car brother.
Hey OGA! Yeah my tripod has duct tape all over it haha its been hit with so much stuff haha poor thing! Thanks for tuning in! Yes this tree also tool a lot of other limbs with it as well hahaha
Man if there was anyone else in the woods around you they probably wet themselves when that fell. Nice job
hahaha I know right! Im sure any deer or any animal ran for the hills when they heard that beast hit!
That was cool
Oh man the thing SLAMMED the ground haha it was so fun! Thanks for watching!
Nice work Jay.
Little dirt between the wedges will help them stick together, and it can save you the pain of one hitting you. Don't ask how I know lol.
Have a great week.
Hahah how did you learn that? LOL ill keep that in mind next time!
@@HomesteadJay I watch a lot of videos lol.
The lessons that cost us the most we are the slowest to forget ;).
Hva ea great night.
I bought a new Echo Timberwolf and sent it to Iowa Performance Saw's for a muffler mod and retune and it's a good saw. I'm looking for information on a better chain to replace the original. I've thought about the EXL, or Huskys X-Cut chain, what chain do you recommend for it to cut hardwood. Thanks
I run the EXLs they seem solid. Use black widow files they cut the best.
@@HomesteadJay Are those sold at Tractor Supply or from a dealership or online only?
9:00 and a premiere , should I bring popcorn , lol
Ive never really done a premier so I said hmm ill try it haha how EXCITING! hahahah
@@HomesteadJay Bringing popcorn and the nachos with that nasty cheese , and a 6er of bud light with lime 👍🏻 lol
@@shayn4220 I moved off the BD lime a while ago lol you must remember those boxes from the Datsun video I had hahah
@@HomesteadJay yes I did , just kidding lol ,
That was a bitternut hickory, but dang fine wood.
Good wood for sure! Will be burning this winter!
That lower part of the tree will burn in the outside wood furnace. Even if it isn’t great and solid wood, it will still burn and create heat.
Sure will! Its all coming home hahah just posted the bucking up video today!
I cut a dead ash one year that was so straight and vertical it would not fall.. less than half inch hinge left.. had to wedge it down..
Its amazing how some of them are dead straight! This one had one limb hanging on once that limb slipped by it slammed like you saw haha Thanks for tuning in!
I see something interesting. What are you carrying?
P320 compact 9mm. Love that thing
Adjust the idle down a bit
Yeah she was a tad but high
Could you have plunge cut it and left a backstrap then cut the strap?
The tree was hung up and wasnt going anywhere until I "shortened" it and the top obstruction cleared what it was hung up on!
Nice editing in there bud 👍🏻 , priceless the wedge kicking back like that , but nicely done , some times slow and steady wins , bet was a good crash
Hey Shayn! My poor tripod has been hit by so many wedges/ branches/ atv/ etc lol it all duch taped together hahah! Thanks for watching buddy!
@@HomesteadJay well it’s doing a good job and your getting your moneys worth out of it 👍🏻
Love the content! Could you make a video on wood boilers available in europe?
Great suggestion! Unfortunately I dont know what is offered in Europe sorry!
Branches were probably holding it up in other trees...
I believe so!
Nice job. That one just didn’t want to go. Nice firewood.
No it didnt haha it was sitting fat on that wedge but we got it! I love the slow mo part lol Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned for part 2!
You should do a live session on here , you might make some money , I seen wranglerstar and buckin make a lot from one live video , can’t hurt ,
I didnt start this for money. Some channels shake the can every week and I dont agree with that! Ill do a live hopefully soon its just a matter of finding time lol 2 kids, a wife, job, etc... haha
@@HomesteadJay sound like trump , I don’t need there money , hahaaaaa
@@HomesteadJay I hear yeah doing a great job , always get my attention and I’ve learned some things 👍🏻
@@shayn4220 Im just trying to make youtube GREAT again! MERICA!
@@shayn4220 What a dang shame how that man was treated. Rising tides lifts all boats and people wanted off the boat for whatever reason. Dont get it. Spent 4 years fighting back when we could have moved leaps and bounds forward
You didn't have much holding wood left. A little bit of wind and that could have gone bad. But it went right where you wanted. Good job!
Hey Thomas! As you saw I had a tad smaller hinge than I liked but I thought it was holding it from going! The notch side was solid wood so I was pounding wedges into the softer side so I was trying to take off some pressure so my wedges could work as they were only burying into the softer wood! Thanks for tuning in! Its all good at the end of the day im safe and its down! Thanks for tuning in brother appreciate it!
Wtf
Please don’t quit ur day job
Good thing I work night shift! 🤣
Don’t quit night shift
Appreciate it 👍🏻
Hey troll!! why don't you show the world that you can do better then?
@@HomesteadJayDon’t feed the trolls; your video was great 👍
