Billy , I did this by accident once and did not know why it worked , you just showed me . I had a small saw and used a different truck , grabbed the wrong saw box and had small saw files for my big ones .Had to make it work for the day. Got home and thought I junked a chain , took it off and left it hang in my truck . Needed one , one day and put it on , filed it with normal size chain and thought it cut like a mutha . Used it up because I was broke and did not want to spend money but never did that to a knew one on purpose again . The one I did it to I had to file high and low to make it cut that day , the first day I did it so when I put a normal size file to it , it had to of done this same thing to some degree. It did not work good right at first because I am sure it was not as good or intentional as what you have done but I think it ended up similar .. As a retired STIHL tech, I have been to many Oregon & STIHL schools. I was taught when grinding chains the side plate needs to be 90 degrees, which is your baby C. And not to gring below the side plate. Your chip dump in interesting. Great video
You bucking are one of many people that makes the world go around. Funny how you making videos and preaching has taught me to be a better man. I thank you for your knowledge and your time. May blessings fulfill your life even more Mr. Smith. Your the man 👍🏻

Hiya Buckin! Thanks for another very informative and interesting video. I especially like the comments about wasting time, very very true words. So, my question in all of this with chains, filing, mufflers, porting, etc. is what in your experience bucking soft conifer firewood is the combination of all these things that produces the MOST EFFICIENT WORKFLOW, i.e. biggest pile of bucked logs at the end of the day with least amount of time spent filing/resharpening, and the minimum amount of money spent on fuel and oil and keeps the work safe, and preserves the powersaw life(bar, cylinder, bearings, saw chain, etc.) as long as possible? You're a professional and do this for a living, but most of us watching this are probably seasonal firewood guys and produce enough for our own house heating needs each year. So, you would certainly have the advantage of all these years of doing this to clue us in as to what gets the job done the most efficiently. What chain file tooth profile cuts the fastest in a marathon race sense, which can go the longest distance before needing a resharpen and get the most life out of a chain and yet still give you a big wood pile at the end of the day? Thanks again for the knowledge sharing!
I HAVE SAID MANY TIMES THAT WHEN PRODUCTION FALLING BY FAR SQUARE GROUND TAKES IT.. AND THAT FOLK SHOULD STICK TO THE GOOD OL ROUND FILE FOR THE TASK OF FIREWOOD
Horsepower, (and RPM) chain size, file size, and filing angles. Stihl has "pico micro" tooth size (for use on smaller saws, less horsepower without sacrificing cutting speed......kerf thickness will also affect cutting speed.)😊😊😊
I used to change file sizes twice after my teeth on the chain were half gone. (smaller, then smaller again at very last part of tooth.......long time ago, and it seemed like my chain got so far stretched I would run out of adjustment!!!! (before teeth would break off or nothing more to file) Chain seemed like it lasted longer???? (until it was way stretched out)

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith I think a guy in my hometown sells the oregon chains. I should be able to get the right on for my Husky and get one set up.
@@toddalbright406 did the chip dump on a Oregon 73 PLX chain for my 572 today, cuts like a bat outta hell
Used to use a true round edge “goofy file” (not a double bevel chisel file)
sometimes when they were available. That chip dump sort of reminds me of that a bit, very neat
good ta see ya
have you ever used a mill bastered flat file did this years ago with good results before square files were easy to get
Always hand filed chains other than sharpening for processor logging where I use a chain sharpeners, where you are sharpening twenty chains daily 🤙👌🙏😎

how do you think the sqare file wood do on aussie hard woods, do think you would need to file more often?
HAS NO ONE IN YOUR fallers ,LOGGERS community run ground chain?
it looks like the baby C would dull quicker because of the thin edge versus the chisel edge. just wondering. Love the content Buckin, God Bless
My thoughts exactly. Looks like the chain held sharp all through his testing. I'd like to have seen chips from his first cuts and comparison chips of this last cuts.
