Whitney sang this with the enthusiasm of a young girl in love and feeling like her man is the best thing in the world. Patti sang this like a woman that has been through her fair share of heartache and even though her man ain’t perfect, he’s all the man she needs.
I think Whitney sang this song with the message that the "He" is Jesus Christ. Because Whitney is gospel-based vocalist, so idk, when Whitney sang this song, it just felt like she was singing about The God Almighty
You have to had understood how Patti sings from the heart & soul to get this performance. She SUNG the song from the heart, the higher the band went the higher she went. It's like I felt an anointing from it. The band wrecked 100%, I mean the piano, background singers, and the horn! I'm just speechless that whole Live in New York was AHMAZING!!!
Patti is like " let me get hold of this song and see how far the universe allows for it to be stretched" she take music and tells it to bring it's A game all day or else!
Whitney added the sadness and disbelief Patti added the pain and anger or frustration if you will to the song both did a fabulous job getting the message across
Patti is an unscripted singer, she's not a sing it your way kind of artist, she's a sing it her way artist. She sings from her soul! Just like Whitney!!! Patti doesn't come to play, she comes to sing!
One of many outstanding Patti Labelle performances for sure. This whole concert was amazing and you are right on point regarding her band. During this period, her band, the arrangements and her voice were perfectly matched.
WOW I'm speachless her tone is ridiculous on this her stage presence make u wanna jump up and praise God for any and everything he has supplied us with, it gave me goosebumps and tears at the same time, love me some Patti
I personally know Pamela Williams on sax and Debbie Henry on main backup vocal and they both are a force on Patti's band and Patti always gives them props because she knows they are the shit haha go ahead on all of you ladies.
She slayed me completely under the table. I love all how she gives her all 😍❤️she know how to leave her mark and just overall powerful vocals..... her powerful chest voice 😩
WOW this is 1991 Patti LaBelle i can tell by the hair and dress, besides seeing her in concert and her asking me onstage when i took a rose to her....yessss Lawd i slow danced with her to Somebody Loves You Baby. ❤❤❤❤
She also wore the same black dress at the Richard Pryor Special, where she sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It was around the time this concert was taped at the Apollo Theater, Sept. 1991
Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. The best Singer of ALL time, she takes anything to another level, it may have been good before, but she gets better! Patti is a historical legend.
This is one of my favorites Pattie clips. I use to watch this over and over before I went on stage to do a show. This clip was my motivator. Much love to that woman!
I totally agreed with you on this one. Patti and Whitney were both great in their interpretations of the song. Whitney's rendition was very tender and Patti was simply in your face. I'm glad Labelle did not attempt to approach the song like Whitney because they're two completely different types of singers. I love both ladies and enjoy what they each gifted us with musically.
Patti Patti did this medley of tunes she had a chance to do but passed the songs up and the rest is history! So happy when she revisits them and add them to her show!
yes it sure was like many, many others and Patti passed on them and they became a hit by somebody else and left her feeling like a penny waitin for change lol I LOVE me some PATTI and it is going to absolutely destroy me if and when she is to pass on as we all must one day.
Sorry if you going to do Patti, this is not the one that is a must see. The best Patti Live Performance ever. Which was requested by someone else other than me. Is "you will never walk alone, Live at the apollo". this was cute!
Aretha may have had the vocals, but Patti has the vocals and the performance down pat! Patti is a true performer as well as a vocal powerhouse. Aretha just got you with the vocals.
I’ve been watching this video lately. When she gets through with this song I get so emotional. I rewind’s it a few times. I love the power in her voice. I became a fan in the 80’s when she was a beast. I Love this woman❤
There is a church in San Francisco called “The John Coltrain Church”, because of the other-worldly essence inherent in Coltrain’s music. There MUST be a Patti Labelle Church, as no one moves me more than Patti. Here voice takes me to church EVERYTIME. On “All the Man That I Need” Patti’s version is WITNESSING!!!!!!!!!!!
You are abolutely correct! Patti Labelle wore this song out ! KILLED IT RESURRECTED IT AND SENT IT ON INTO THE PEARLY GATES ! DROPS MIKE AND EXITS ! AND SHE'S STILL DOING IT HERE LIVE AND IN THE MOMENT ! PATTI LABELLE DIDN'T COME OUT TO PLAY SHE CAME TO SLAY AND SLAT SHE DID ! LOVE YOU PATTI ! Love your honest review THANKS !
I like both versions.. But something about this version sucks me in and makes me FEEL what she's trying to express!! Usually she over does it live with the screaming at unecssary parts sometimes, but I was living for every bit of this...
I've seen your reaction videos before, and this is my very 1st comment. you need to do reactions to the following Patti performances...Isn't It A Shame (when she rolling around on the floor), You Are My Friend (One Night Only) performance...those notes she hits at the end honey, Somewhere Over The Rainbow/When You Been Blessed medley (Arsenio Hall Show) performance, On My Own with Michael McDonald, and If You Don't Know Me By Now...all on the same Arsenio Hall Show performance...or you can do the one from the Apollo. they are all classic Patti.
This is actually Patti's song. They came to her first. She turned it down because it was too light and fluffy. They reworked the song but she wasnt interested anymore. They took the reworked version to whitney and whitney loved it.
i knew patti would slay everything ... that range was crazy altho her rendition is a bit unorthodox like usual one , but she keep us in awe with that range ... only she can do this type of rendition given her vocal abilities ... btw , would love for you to react to superwoman performed by patti labelle , gladys knight , and dionne warwick in Oprah ...
Excellent I love how you just stop the tape in the middle of the song and made some corrections for those who try to criticize Patti for Whitney Houston that's where they going wrong right there that's not Whitney Houston that's Patti LaBelle and she did it her way not Whitney's way, thanks again just The Voice
You summed up the differences between the two renditions beautifully lol. Can you please react to Luke James best live vocals? You won't be disappointed.
I could say they are 2 different style singers. However I prefer to say, they sung the song in two different styles. Whitney fans and Patty fans SMH. I love them both. Yes, it is Whitney's song. She sang it as good or better than anybody. However, You can call Patti screaming or whatever. A true vocalist knows she has a powerhouse voice. Patti stepped up to the plate and delivered the song excellently in her own unique way!

You got that right!
@@rioferdinand1351 I thought the song was about Jesus when I heard Whitney’s version which was the first time I had ever listened to the song
Exactly! Point blank! Point proven. Period!

I LOVE PATTI's tone and her voice is nuts. she did it the patti way!
She belt with ease....with all that power
Patti is an unscripted singer, she's not a sing it your way kind of artist, she's a sing it her way artist. She sings from her soul! Just like Whitney!!! Patti doesn't come to play, she comes to sing!
Patti the queen of vocals i love patti..always has..all my life.
Patti Labelle is the best in ranges.
Patti Labelle Slayed this Song!! Nobody in the Industry Can Touch Her!! She is the Definition of Original!!
Patti is a force of nature!!!
Its like she calls on the something....
One of many outstanding Patti Labelle performances for sure. This whole concert was amazing and you are right on point regarding her band. During this period, her band, the arrangements and her voice were perfectly matched.
Patti's rendition is everything😢

Ron M Debbie is no joke.👍
whitney's version is amazing the best one but patti really did justice to this classic
what do you mean did justice lol? I prefer Whitney's version all day long
I prefer Patti Labelle's version!!! Patti snatched Whitney's wig off with this version! Whipped this songs butt !!!!
MrGetoDac its a whitney song, it’s not for everybody, that’s what I meant, and patti came through and killed it
Whitney all the way
@@lisaaugustin5400 nice joke. Snatched with screaming? hahahhahaha
PATTI DID THAT! I LOVE IT...
My favorite part is after she did the little hops. She lost her entire mind! Just raw power! 🙌🏿♥️
I've got goosebumps when I watched this her performed.
I love whitneys version. I LOVE pattis version too!!!!!
I love all of Patti's octaves !!!!

Patti Patti did this medley of tunes she had a chance to do but passed the songs up and the rest is history! So happy when she revisits them and add them to her show!
Yes the band is incredible. Bud Ellison was her musical director during this time. Bud always synced Patti's voice with every note, a kind of magic!
Patti's tone can be ugly as hell but her belting voice is just immaculate. And she slayed this performance. When I first saw this I was hollering.
Stephon Jackson Lmao this comment is accurate and funny 😂😂
Ugly how ?????!!!!!!!!
Stephon well its not that its ugly... yuh just have ur opinion... she just has a humorous side to her tone at times.... but she sings beautifully...
Stephon well its not that its ugly... yuh just have ur opinion... she just has a humorous side to her tone at times.... but she sings beautifully...

She did it Patti's way. I love Patti. ❤

not exactly; first recorded by Linda Clifford in 1982...
Never knew that
Yes it was
@@drpastry this song was written for Linda Clifford, not Patti Labelle.

That Apollo performance was GODLY and definitely one of her classics.

I love it when an artist makes it it's own... The right way
I cane across this version last summer. Oh MY GAWD Ms and those background singers took us to the next hemisphere 💥🤯 🪐🌌
Have you reacted to Patti, Gladys and Dionne singing "Superwoman" on Oprah?
Jeff vitelli This is so good!
Ya ... Been requesting this epic performance since ages .. It's a must watch legendary performances

For educational purposes only: She is teaching us how to really sing.
There’s only one Miss Patti!!!
This rendition is amazing honestly
Patti done already performed close to an hour by this performance. I think it was the end of the first act in Live in NY concert.
Version of Whitney is out of this world but Patti version is insane
Patti snatched Whitney's wig off with this version !!!!! Whipped this song's behind !!!!!

" I NEED...the man."
Great interpretation.....this is equal to or better than the original!...there I said it 😃🚬
Whitney herself isn't the owner of the song, it was a cover of hers too
Yes!!!!!!!!!!
Let's give Luther his credits. He wrote and arranged this for Linda Clifford. Whitney made it hugely popular.

Her supported vocalist were very good especially Debbie Henry
Thank god for debbie. Hattie's last great performance was when prince was alive. That purplr rain was her last great performance..
Pattie got insane here.wow!!😍😍

Patti whips a songs ass!!!
K.O.'s every single time!!
With a belt or an extension cord

Only thing Whitney could do with Patti is take a picture beside her you could not pay Whitney Houston to sing next to Patti LaBelle! NEXT
Please react to Rachelle Ferrell best love vocals
Imo she's the most underrated vocalist ever.
This a side of Patti people never seen a more settle gentle patti
