Back when BET was good to watch. I love Gladys Knight. Nobody sounds like her. She has a distinctive tone that's rich and makes her stand out. Love Yolanda Adams. I remember I got her cd mountain high valley low for a Christmas gift. She is a vocal beast. Eddie and Ms Patti!!! Whew too much legendary greatness on the stage.
*lists singers* “Yeah, this is when awards shows were still lit. I saw a lot of people in the audience that I actually know … and that are actually… talented.” I screamed 😭😭😭🤣🤣
First off, Eddie Levert...to sing at your childs tribute...can not be an easy thing to do. The OG from The O Jays. Still had the grit and soulfulness all those years later. Gladys' tone alone. My God My God. She is one of my top 5 favorite singers ever. And even today for her to be knocking on 80 years old her voice has held up extremely well. Yolanda has to be one the most consistent singers I have ever listened to. You know when Mama comes shes going to give God her best. And Patti Patti. The moment she came out I felt her. It's like her voice drips with emotion. You can hear and feel her grief. I agree with you on the messyness towards the end. It wasnt mapped out properly or maybe they got caught up in the moment but all these singers are legends and are extremely gifted in song. Gerald you are still missed my friend 16 years later. ❤ Rest on.
They were all very emotional. Gerald passed away and this was a song that he sang with his dad, Eddie Levert. They were all close to Gerald. Patti had performed with him a few times and, you can tell just how close they were just from seeing them perform together. This was so incredibly emotional. I have no idea how Eddie held it together! They were all incredible!
I cry every time I see this video. I remember watching it live when I was a kid and was like "wow". Unfortunately the BET Awards aren't like this anymore
@@patgorden5002 I probably watch it like 15 times back to back, especially the breakdown part in the middle, where the band starts singing "ain't got nothing if don't have you".
Your assessment was on point a beautiful mess.......lol. It was, however, beautiful and touching because they were singing from their hearts. These four are some of my all time favorite singers. Patti is just remarkable.........that head voice is simply untouchable. I could go on and on about this performance but will have to stop and tell you thanks for sharing such a great moment with your audience.
Please Review Patti Labelle’s 80th Birthday Tribute, “The House I Live In,” to Frank Sinatra from nearly 30 years ago. Best tribute in the history of TV. Bar none.
Come on Old Skool! Gladys Knight (Contralto), Yolanda Adams (Mezzo), Eddie LeVert (Baritone), Patti LaBelle (Dramatic Soprano).. Yes Lord, Live Singing ✨
Gladys Knight’s a lyric mezzo; contraltos have a darker and more androgynous timbre. Yolanda’s a Lyric Soprano who doesn’t mix for high notes. I think I agree on Eddie, sounds about rt. Patti’s a Spinto Soprano, Dramatics have even darker, heavier Soprano voices.
Yes!!! It was kinda over the place but in a good way I wanted to hear them all didn't know who to listen to lol couldn't help but listen to patti because she soars...Eddie Levert man!! They should put his voice I. A bottle I mean what man these day sing like that anymore?? Sounds like a lion he sings with authority...yolonda was the peace keeper with her silky belts gladys is simply amazing
Gerald and Patti had a special relationship together. She made a Heartfelt entrance, but I didn't like how she grabbed Yolanda's note while coming it. A soprano has a lot open space to expand their voice, but Yolanda carries the anointing. You catch Yolanda on a half good day and she is unstoppable and unconquerable. Gladys is my girl though. They all did equally good.
I feel you, award shows now is wack. The people now just dress to show they bodies with a small amount of talent now and they all sound the same(not that many with individuality)
Yoo..you have instagram?..im a vocalist as well was watching one of ya old videos.and noticed it was ya bday..you a libra like me..yours is 3 days before mine.
SMH but never a tribute to Luther Vandross and he was on the FIRST show going tribute to Whitney. The Grammy Awards never did a tribute to him after he passed either. So disrespectful.
Im guessing its because Luther died a day or two after the 2005 Bet Awards. And they did do a Tribute at Bet 25th Anniversary later that year (the one where Whitney walked out it the blond wig and talked about him and introduced John Legend to sing a song in his honor)
@@Nippyfit86 they could of did something bigger and more. They did several for Michael. Even the Grammys....had the tribute before Aretha passed, after she passed and a tribute.
@@tamyragraypromotions1678 well if you are talking about other Award shows doing tributes than I agree with you there. But its common for them not to pay our artists the kind of tribute they deserve, From Prince to Natalie Cole to Luther. BET was the only one to my knowledge who paid any tributes to those artists. MTV never even did a Tribute to Whitney, which is crazy to me. Maybe BET could have done more...maybe..but Im glad they did SOMETHING.
@@Nippyfit86 yeah I can agree with that. To me I think the most shocking lack of tribute was the soul train awards. Considering he hosted so many of the first ones, he should of had a full fledge tribute show.
