Done deal! Patti can afford to be extra. She has the voice, the rifts, the stage presence to pull it off and you can't help but give her a standing ovation!
YESSSSSS!!!!!! You finally reacted to it!!!.... Patti is power, range and technique. What an amazing vocalist... This is one of her best performances everrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Patti Slayed this performance. Love your enthusiast review. It was so funny how she looked at Al Green when he tried to keep up with her. Earlier in the show she sang a duet with Joe Crocker and he looked like he was just hit by a freight train. Patti never had as many hits as her contemporaries but she could always out perform the best of them.
There's no one like Patti. She is phenomenal! I saw her once live at Westbury Music Fair in NY. I happened to be in the right place at the right time--she came out of her dressing room singing and she shook my hand as she walked by to enter the stage. The energy that went through me when she touched me sent me into a state of euphoria and I have never enjoyed a concert more than that one. I felt like she was singing directly to ME! God bless Patti LaBelle--she is a world treasure.
This is one of my favorite Patti performances. I’m glad you finally got to witness it. She killed it with her vocal agility on this one. I always rewind that one part too lol. She always shows up and shows out at the Apollo. You should watch her performance of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” at the Apollo and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” at the Apollo. You won’t be disappointed!!!!!
Patti is phenomenal whenever she performs BUT 80s Patti Labelle was a sight to behold! You should check out her live performance of "Over The Rainbow" from the Kennedy Center...don't say I didn't warn you lol
She looked at Al Green when he hit that crackling notes sounding like he was gargling mouth wash she was like wtf are you doing that was weak lol I’m done 😂🤣😂
5:22 😂😂😂 *You & Patti literally had the same exact reaction* 😂 I love how *Patti* makes almost everyone she performs with, her backing vocalists; she does this so effortlessly 😂😥 It must not be easy getting on stage with her, unless one is delighted to stay in the background.
I don't agree with you on this I actually think that Patti out of that generation is the only one that duets with somebody and she gives everyone her space. For example her duet with Mariah Carey, of course Patti can belt 3 times louder than her but she gives her space to the artist unlike Aretha for example where she always has to shine no hate to Aretha but it's the truth. Patti is a team player all the way she even respects the choirs and backup singers
Some of her neighbors from her old neighborhood used to stand on the sidewalk and listen to her singing while she was cooking and cleaning inside the house.
That's my issue with the people thinking she only can hit high notes (not you but in general) this "all she does is scream" is just hate especially when she is being compared to someone...if they can't diffentiate a high powerful belt from a scream then they need not be listening....someone requested the "super woman " with gladys patti dionne (who didnt want patti to sing loud at this performance but patti did patti lol and killed) i think that you would enjoy that one as well.
Facts, she combines emotion with other worldly vocal ability. Anyone who appreciates great singing and performance should do themselves a favor check out some of her live concerts.
@thabigcohuna Yasss! I love Sisters in the name of love and I really thought she could only sing subtly as she's always drowned by Ms. Gladys's and Patti's voice but after discovering how sick Dionne's voice was, dang. I wasn't able to get over for months and even now I still keep watching her "I didn't mean to love you" performance! Mind blown!❤
Loved since day one!!! I've watched this a million times since middle school, and have been a fan ever since. Preston has always killed on those keys!!! It was funny when he said the guy up on the front row.... That was a lady my friend!!!! LoL
Patty wore her hair like this in the late 80s. MTV regularly played the video hits of Patti, Aretha & Tina Turner. They all wore big crazy hair. I'm old enough to remember good music on MTV.
Finally!!!! Ive been wishing you would do this video!!!! Its my all-time favorite Patti performance ever!!!! And WHAT AN ENTRANCE!!!!! And you can tell Billy Preston.on the piano. loves him some Patti!!!😁
Finally! I thought you were never gonna react to this epic performance. That entrance is legendary. She did her thing and owned that stage like only very few know how.
Right before Partti sung this song it was a gospel medley with Al Green, Little Richard and Mavis Staple..with Billy Preston on them keys. When I tell you Patti just made the night soar to a new level. Patti grew up singing gospel..what we call COGIC gospel. There is a video with her singing this when she was her group way back and she has an amazing head voice..oh yeah at the end of that special Diana Ross.was rushed there to celebrate Apollo return and she's singing I Want To Know What Love Is and she says.."help me somebody" and Mama Patti snatches the mic and tears the stage all the way down...Patti is a vocal powerhouse...
That performance of the Apollo theater was done in 1985 and it was from a television program that was a tribute to Barry Gordy and Motown. And a company patty at the end is Mavis Staples, Little Richard, and the Reverend Al Green. Other performers that were on the program were Diana Ross, Joe Cocker, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Rod Stewart. If I remember correctly I think even Sarah Vaughan was on there besides others. That’s not a wig. She would have her hair shaped just like there there was another program where she had it shaped like a Stetson cowboy hat and it would take six, eight, 10 hours depending on what was being done to get her hair that way. Her voice just like a few other artists such as Reba McEntire, Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, are truly gifts from God. They are on an entirely different level then most.
I remember when it aired. I was a little kid but it’s always been one of my favorite Patti performances. I loved the whole show of Motown returns to the Apollo!!!! #classic
I'm going to say this n i'm going to leave it here from seeing this on a recorded VHS tape years ago to seeing on UA-cam Ms. Patti took it to church and then some. Her voice is in a class all by itself. Legendary pipes. The choir was amazingly great behind her. Powerful and anointed as they should be.

All those legends started singing in church.
This was from Motown Returns To The Apollo. I forget you’re a millennial, cause who doesn’t know little Richard & Al Green and errbody knows Patti’s range and what she could do. The entire show was wonderful. One of my faves growing up!

She received a Emmy Nomination for this performance. This was tapped in the 80’s. She was in rare form doing that time.
MICHAEL WILLIAMS still is rare to this day!
Unfortunately she lost to Barbra Streisand. Luv Babs, but Ms. LaBelle was robbed that year. This performance is EPIC!
@@doneLjohnsonjr didn't know that 😳
This woman is simply unbelievable... This Voice is divine. Patti your is the best Singer of ALL time
Patti can hit those high notes because she has taken great care of herself and doesn’t smoke or drink. Bravo Bravo!
Patti LaBelle always takes you to church whether you want to or not!! A true master of vocals and powerhouse vocalist!!! Love 💕 her!!!
Her voice is SO powerful, nobody compares.

To this day, I am convinced Patti has 4, maybe five lungs. That amount of air... ain’t heard that from ANY other singer other.

I fell out when you said she had a whole racetrack on her head. 😂😂😂
You need to listen to Patti Labelle's "Look To the Rainbow". I stood up in my house and gave her an ovation for that one.
One of my fav performances of hers...especially when she transcended to that G#5
Love that song.....
You should defiantly check out her Over the Rainbow at the Apollo!!!!! Patti's vocal slayage got better with age throughout the 80's and 90s.
There you go with that...”whoa, that’s what you not gone do...”

I love your facial expressions! I felt that from Queen Patti LaBelle.
The supreme Dramatic Soprano. You should go back to the 60s when she was part of a group called the Bluebells.
You've got taste!!! My favorite Patti performance

The folks that came out on the stage appear to be Little Richard, Mavis Staples and Al Green.

Patti is my favorite female singer... Thank you for reacting to this
You have to be about 24 or so. The younger Patti could tear the roof off any building(back in the day). She was a phenomenal singer. In the 80”s
She is really consistent thoughhhh😍
In Sisters In The Name Of Love (along with Gladys Knight and Dionne Warwick), she had a bucket type hair style, with a bucket ponytail!!😂
I LOVE this performance
