  • KTM 390 Duke chases big bikes at MSR Houston! This Duke 390 is an absolute joy to rip around the track. As they always say, it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than to ride a fast bike slow!

    Man that looks like fun! Definitely signing up next time they host. Do you know if they lend or rent out the racing suits?

    • @MotoRevs
      @MotoRevs  3 роки тому +3

      It sure is! And they sure do! In fact, they’ve very recently upgraded all of their rental suits and boots to top-notch quality along with brand new equipment! It’s definitely worth renting if you don’t have the necessary gear the first few times around. If it’s your first track day, the suit and boots rental is free! (P.S. - I’ll be out there on November 20th!)

      I'd love to agree! This bike is great on this track since it isn't full of too many straights, giving me an advantage in the corners. Thanks for the support!

    What tires do you have on the Duke in the video?

    • @MotoRevs
      @MotoRevs  Рік тому +3

      In this video I believe I was on the factory Metzeler tires! I later upgraded to a pair of Michelin Pilot Power C2s, though. Big difference in the feel, turn in, grip, and overall confidence!

    Bro, you've gotta ditch using the clutch for upshifts. You can hear it on every shift.

    • @MotoRevs
      @MotoRevs  2 роки тому +4

      I would ditch the clutch if I could. I don’t have a quick-shifter, so I have no choice but to use the clutch.

      @@MotoRevs quickshifters are great, but you don't need a quickshifter to ditch the clutch. There are 2 ways to do this: either preload the shifter with your toe, then just ever so slightly, kill the throttle just enough to unload the transmission and then immediately back on the throttle and it'll be 100x better. Second option is to just time killing the throttle simultaneously with clicking up to the next gear. This is exactly what a quickshifter does. It just does it electronically, and faster than you can manually. But this is the proper way to shift a motorcycle, though you still need to clutch the downshifts. Every time you hear that rev at your shift, you're telling everyone there you're inexperienced. You'll also extend the life of your clutch plates.

      @@josiahwright7114 good point. Also, I would like to point out that if this is done correctly the upshifts are as smooth as with-clutch upshifts. And you are not damaging the gearbox either. If you slightly preload gear lever and bleep the throttle on high revs, the lever with move automatically and the upper gear is engaged. However this should be done at high revs, naturally track is the best place to do it.

      Using the clutch is not "inexperience." It is how you shift gears. I have, however, been experimenting with this, and must say I really enjoy this. I can do this with upshifts and downshifts. I'll be sure to use this technique on the track from now on. Thank you guys for your comments!

      That’s a great choice! Although biased, I firmly believe that the Duke 390 is one of the best, if not the best starter bike. Packed with Technology and rider aids, it’s the best looking, best sounding, and most certainly best riding starter bike for the price! Great size, power, and it’ll keep you entertained, even when you graduate to be an advanced rider!

      @@MotoRevs would you say 5k is a good price to buy the bike at? that's the average price im seeing them used right now.

    • @MotoRevs
      @MotoRevs  2 роки тому +2

      I'd say that's a fair price, of course depending on the condition and mileage. The thing is, however, the bike costs $5,500 brand new, so buying used may not save you that much. On the other hand, maybe there aren't many new ones, making $5k a pretty good price for one of these bikes, so I'd say yes!

      Bro do it. I got one not too long ago and I'm in love with taking it up to Angels Crest, a twisty mountain highway. Without a doubt the best first bike.
