@@n_dawson This annoys me more than anything. they only bought the head and just assumed that any cabinet will be sufficient and that people will already have the cab. Thanks for pointing it out.

Adam Barrott That's what I was thinking lol. He only bought the head too lol. What if I don't have a cab? I don't think that guy knows what not breaking the bank means lol.
Adam Barrott They were aiming for $1500 each for the entire rig, The Head was around £1000, The Guitar was £339, you can easily pick up a second hand Cab for the £140 that's left over. I'd say its mission accomplished.
Agreed...everyday people aren't going to be spending £1099 on just a head...I don't know what they consider breaking the bank to mean but just one of them spent £1438 and that's without a cab....and let's be honest if you did have the money to buy a Mesa then it's highly likely you'd want a decent cab as well... I don't know what the budget was but let's just say for arguments sake it's £1500...you ain't getting a cab worth shit for £62...Rabea spent almost £800 which is much more reasonable but still not exactly cheap.
I love grunge in general post ,pre, post modern ,modern pre etc. and the foo fighters rock- its amazing how easily you guys got that sound especially clean intros. Man how i wish i could play
The fact that you can stay name brand (albeit from the cheaper subsidiaries) on guitars and amps and get a great sounding, versatile, affordable rig is a reason to be happy to be living now.
Dave's tone, down to the bare bones is literally as simple as running a ProCo Rat into a Vox Ac30 mic'd up with an SM57 so the budget way would be any Gibson style guitar with humbuckers, a ProCo Rat, the Mooer Black Secret or the Little Bear R.Attack into either a Vox AC15 or an AC30VR
That's right but only for the earlier stuff and live use. He uses a Hiwatt Custom 100 now for his live amp and his main guitar sound in the studio comes from an AC30
Okay couple ideas for future videos. Some obvious ones are Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Alice in Chains, ACDC, Metallica. And some less obvious ones but some of my personal favorites are Reignwolf, Black Pistol Fire and Black Stone Cherry.
I think I produced a pretty close tone with my set up, real cheap too. Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top - $419 Fender Princeton 650 Used - $200 Electro-Harmonix Soul Food Distortion Pedal - $78 Dunlop Original Cry Baby - $80 Shure SM57 - $100 $887 with the mic, $787 without. I have a few videos of Foo covers, I'm biased but I think it's a damn good setup for the cost.
You guys really nailed the Pretender opening. Could you guys do sound like Alex Lifeson for some episode? Or at least a Rush song or two. He does use a shitload of effects.
Something Like this: Squier 70s Vintage Modified Strat Big Muff Pi Electric Mistress Phase 90 T.C. Electronic Corona T.C. Electronic Alter Ego Two amps with loads of clean headroom.
It would of been cool to of seen you bring in a guest guitarist for this one to do Pat Smears guitar rig, sound and parts he plays on a budget. Still a nice video though.
I am loving this whole 'sound like' series. It's an awesome idea and your relaxed, laid back, easygoing presentation style makes me want to buy guitars from you... Because I get a sense of what the atmosphere must be like in Andertons!!! Keep them coming (something for the Pixies sound would be great!)
+tfoshohoe tbh if they can do royal blood on a budget they could do Lifeson. I just think they will largely stick to certain songs with certain effects rather than trying to be comprehensive.
+Tyler the only effects you really need are chorus delay and wah. the rest can be done with a PRS (with floyd) and a hughes and kettner tubemeister i would say
Rebea should write an accompanying solo to all these radio rock bands with no solo guitarists. Pretender would really shine with a solo. It's already an amazing track.
leon taylor Wouldn't be that hard to do Triviu'ms tone. Peavey 6505 mini or EVH 5150 iii 50 watt head, Matt Heafy even has his own Epiphone signature, or anything with Emg 81/85s. Something with Seymour Duncan Blackouts for Corey's tone, tube screamer, done.
flyingmanforfun That doesnt mean you cant match their tones, You just use the amps that they have profiled into their kemper. To profile on a kemper, You need the original amp. You're essentially 'Recording' the tone into the Kemper.
Interesting amp choices. Watching them play live, especially when they streamed the whole Wasting Light album, there were no Mesa's on stage. Shifty uses Custom Audio/Suhr heads and a Fender Bassman. Grohl's been using a Hiwatt and Vox AC30 2x12 set up for a while. Pat's running a Peavey 6505.
Kongfoo Fourtytwo there are the cort mbc1 and there are plenty of guitars that can do tha same like a humbucker single coil telecaster, most of his sound comes from his effects like the fuzz factory and whammy etc
Foo Fighters are basicly getting their sound by natural overdrive form the amps. They keep it simple. They had used for a long time a VOX AC30's amps. But if you wanna get closer to Dave his sound, buy a VOX AC30 (the cheap ones), that epiphone and pedal wise: BOSS DD3, MXR phase 90 and the BOSS TU3. Nice one guys! As you know Bea I'm big on the Foo's! News flash! Appearing on social media today! Dave G fell off stage yesterday in Sweden! As it now appears broke his leg!!! Let me preface this...I am a 57 YO guy who plays a Martin acoustic guitar in a James Taylor style, now let me say this...YOU GUYS FUCKIN' ROCK!!! I love the Foo Fighters and that my friends was spot on!!. Wish I could hire you to play a party Stateside.
On June 12 I played a Foo Fighters tribute show! What a coincidence. Nice job on the tones guys. Keep the sounds like videos coming. Love to see what you would use for a Steel Panther rig on a budget. Curious about those Satchel signature Kramers!
this new series is lacking more episodes :) love the format and the performances by you guys. would also like to see you maybe once a month do a 3000 quid video for the more experienced / skillful guitar players and why they might choose X over Z ?
kasnitch Some major players keep their gear cheap because touring costs are high while the pay has been the same for years. The craze for those that want to spend the money has went from full stacks to pedals. While the major players use to have three or four pedals, now they may have a dozen and at an average cost of 150 pounds, that would be 1800 pounds. Rack mounted stuff is also the recent craze, especially with modeling amps, wireless units, power supplies and guitar tech controlled pedals. A Fender 40w Hot Rod Deluxe III combo (700 pounds), a PRS SE or simular price and quality guitar ($600), six pedals (1000 pounds), Shure SM58 Bundle with mic stand (100 pounds) and cables picks and pedal board (100 pounds). You guys definitely nailed the tone on a budget for this one. A lot more straightforward than the Nirvana tone (which was the first vid of yours I watched). Anyways, keep up the great work!

speaking of bands who have amazing tone, you guys should do a sound like social distortion video. Mike Ness sounds amazing. love to see you guys try that
I think Dave Grohl has a signature ES-335 that has diamond-shaped f-holes and 6-on-a-side headstock. It's a Gibson, though, so outside the budget of this vid.
I probably would've gone with an epi Dot for Dave in combination with a vox AC30 (or AC15), since it's the amp they used on wasting light. Otherwise, great vid!
"Mesa boogie" and "without busting the bank" are two very contradictory terms
Did you saw the "by busting the bank" video? the budget was really different!
That Mesa Boogie costs 850 pounds
well if you watched the vid you would see it cost 1,099 pounds... not 850, and costs even more nowadays.
@@n_dawson This annoys me more than anything. they only bought the head and just assumed that any cabinet will be sufficient and that people will already have the cab. Thanks for pointing it out.

I think Sounds Like Tony Iommi would be the ultimate show!!!!

"without busting the bank"
Buys a Mesa Boogie
The fuck?

Andy Birger Can of worms since the previous time.
Andy Birger Hmm, Some more esoteric! MOBY GRAPE!
that would be amazing
+Andy Birger Yes!
That was one of the first ones
nice marshall 4x12 that wasnt included in the budget ;)
What I was thinking the entire time.
yeah they forget to mention it on the video!
Most venues have their own cabs and the idea is to make a gig able rig

Pat is rhythm.

Eimhin Murphy YES! A sound like Josh Homme in general. I really wish the would cover his Kyuss era too :D
Eimhin Murphy Rebea doing the solo for No One Knows would be an incredible sight! :D
They just have to! hahah
Eimhin Murphy Yeah, style of Them Crooked Vukltures as well
Eimhin Murphy good idea!
dang, the blackstar sounds nice! didnt expect that sound...
mcl40000 that's what i thought hahaha
***** what mike did you use for mikeing it?
mcl40000 I love my HT Studio 20! It's great for quiet practice and silent recording, too!
I bet they did their standard SM57 + Ribbon mic
mcl40000 Sm57 off axis and a se ribbon mic (by the looks of it) in the middle between the cone and the end of the speaker
Just be aware if the Blackstar fails on you it won't be cost-effective to fix. It's all computer chips and micro resistors inside.
up for a challenge? Sound like Motorhead, mainly the bass (vocals if you're brave)
Step 1: get throat cancer
Step 2: full gain on bass
Step 3: Ace of spades
+deBidi Accurate lmao
that blue epiphone is absolutely gorgeous

Joep R Gojira
Joep R yes but your gonna have to up the budget,a jackson dominion and a mesa mark5 plus cabinet.
trillriff-axegrinder or: if you already have a humbucker equipped guitar buy a pod500hdx. done.
Peavey 6505 plus, tube screamer, any guitar with Duncan or. Duncan designed pickups.
