do Aersomith by busting the bank! livin on the edge, amazing, Jaded, and crazy, he has a lot of different sounds id really like to hear and know how to emulate!
For his modern tone, yes, but his older tones (VH1 era) his EVH amps dont really do that "too" well, his sound has evolved over the years and his newer tones sound quite a bit more modern to me, less brown and more gnarly, if you will. This is all my opinion of course :)
My father gave me Get a Grip when I was something like 13, and I listened to it over and over again to that day. And I must say, you absolutely nailed the tone!
I've never considered the application of an eq pedal in so many ways, bea uses one almost every sounds like and the impact it has is huge. Great vid again guys, thanks
I was so stoked to see you guys pick up the Les Paul CM, been wanting one of those for quite some time! Then you chose the other satin finished LP im in love with.... i get so jelly from these videos, great job on the sound for this one. Saw Aerosmith a few months ago and you got a lot of the sounds with more clarity than they did :P
This was a good one. It felt like it was almost self-evident what gear would be needed, but you really took it a bit further than what was expected. Great job!
If you take out the guitar, most rigs can be had under 1000, and then if you go used, you could probably get everything for under 700 (aside from guitar)
I think I spendt about 1500£ on my gear which is a used Ltd ec1000 deluxe and a squier strat that I put noiseless pickups in, a dsl40c which I got cheap on sale, a crybaby wah, reverb + delay pedal and an angry troll boost/drive pedal
James Florin I agree, maybe they could get Nathan from All about the bass involved in that episode, it would be really cool to see what they would pick with Wah and distortion
That Peavey is insanely good for almost everything. I use mine with a Marshall 1960A or the matching Peavey 2x12 (depending on the situation) and it delivers. Not a perfect match with the V30 though, I prefer them combined with G12T-75´s. However I must point out that the DI out on the Peavey is useless because you can´t turn off cab sim and that cab sim is horrible. If you need a quality DI out check out the Tubemeister 20 deluxe.
I've just started a classic rock cover band and struggling to get a good classic rock tone from my Marshall Tsl60c. I have a ge7 for my other band that I use for a solo boost in the loop. Good to find another use for it, thanks guys!!!These vids are great for tips on tone chasing.
I asked for this one because I was convinced they wouldn't be able to do it and.... Well the Brad Whitford tone is very close, but Joe Perry's is very difficult to get, especially on a budget. I feel like Aerosmith is probably one they should revisit as a breaking the bank at some point, but this was interesting to see. I was very surprised to see Brad Whitford's tone from a Les Paul. I've always associated him more with Strats or Super-Strat type guitars. That Peavey is a heck of a sound, good find.
here's the rig i have assessed with both guitarist Joe Perry uses guitars like: Dan Armstrong custom guitar, BC Rich Bich, a Fender Telecaster with a TV Jones in the neck, a telecaster copy called Blue Rose, a Fender Stratocaster, a 6 string Musicman Bass, a Fender Jeff Beck signature Esquire, 3 Gibson Les Pauls, a Fender Telecaster with a B bender, a Gibson Lucille (Billie) and a firebird replica called the Ghettobird, for FX he has stuff like a TC Electronic Vortex, TC Electronic Flashback, MXR Carbon Copy, TC Electronic Hall Of Fame, a Duesenberg Gold Boost which we don't have so get this TC Electronic Spark Boost instead, EHX POG, Digitech Whammy and a Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, his amps are Marshalls and i think the JTM is a good shout so one of those and a cab Gibson Les Paul Blues master - £5000 Marshall JTM45 - £1215 Marshall Cab - £510 TC Electronic Vortex Flanger - £108 TC Electronic Flashback Delay - £133 MXR Carbon Copy Delay - £160 TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Reverb - £120 TC Electronic Spark Booster - £103 EHX POG 2 - £300 Digitech Whammy V - £158 Dunlop Cry Baby Wah - £90 Boss DD7 Delay - £135 total - £8152 for Brad Whitford: he has a Musicman Axis Reflex called The Game Changer, a few Gibson Les Pauls and Fender Stratocasters, along with a Fender Maverick 12 String, a Fender Telecaster and two Epiphone Casinos, his fx are stuff like a TC electronic Hall Of Fame, a TC electronic Corona, a TC Electronic Vortex, two TC Electronic Flashbacks, a Pigtronix Fat Drive, a Pigtronix Philosophers Rock and some other stuff like a Fulltone Clyde Wah, his ams include a Fender and some 3 Monkeys amps i'll try total some gear and a price later
pretty close with the tones fellas, love aerosmith and seen them live twice, chuffed you done this vid, defo one for a by busting the bank in the future :)
Bea, you've got to do a Nuno one - N4, Rat and Marshall, and it would be a good time to do it as Extreme just have a new Pornograffitti Live DVD out 😃🤘🏻🎸
Great guitar playing in this one! It'd groove massively with a similarily well-syncronised rhythmsection. Loving the tones as well, Nice grippy midrange.
they'll do that eventually. i feel like they're going to go over all of the "sounds like" videos by busting the bank and essentially starting over again
Oh damn I really want a sound like Jimi Hendrix. Comment and like the comment to bring it up to top comment so Rabea can see it when he reads the comments
I'm glad you did some older songs! Geezers like me don't think that anything after Night in the Ruts/Right in the Nuts is really Aerosmith! :-) Sounded great! I'm gonna have to get one of those Archer pedals!
Thanks that was a good episode. I wasn't sure at first but after the first riff, everything was getting better and in the end, I think everything was really good. I like the EQ pedal as well. Thanks. I'm gonna wait for Van Halen now!!! :)
I have a US made Peavey Classic 30, which is the 1x12 combo, and I can confirm that it's a great classic rock amp. It's the same circuit as the Classic 20 head. These days they're made in China, so I can't speak to those, but the US made models are wonderful blues, rock, country and jazz amps. Check one out.
That was really interesting. When Matt turned that GE-7 on and the Peavey suddenly got that Marshall clank, that surprised me. Who'd'a thunk? That moment alone was worth the price of admission. And then the Archer kind of pushed it further, from 70s Gibson/Marshall clipping/crunching to near-80s modded-Marshall grind. Nice. I'm really impressed by that Archer pedal. Now I've got GAS...
Great review guys, and when you started playing, 'Love in an Elevator', I just wanted to grab a guitar and play, which is something I have not done in months due to health problems. Not that keen on the cheap Les Pauls, but have not played one, I just don't like the satin look and flat top, compared to the glossy arched top Gibsons. You have convinced me to buy a Boss eq pedal though, I didn't think it would make that much difference in tonal quality, but it does seem to. Once again, thanks for an excellent review, and see you in the shop sometime :-) x
Hey awesome, I've been waiting for Aerosmith. Also, I'd still love to see Sound Like The Beatiles, Primus, Radiohead, Van Halen or ZZ Top. But yeah, this was really good you guys, as per usual
Love the tones Guys, wear ear protection Had a problem with tinnitus one-sided back when I was a more engaged player… an ear infection and a good portion of stress 10 years later I had a hearing loss. Still recovering, but I nearly can’t hear the beloved Afro… Flipped the headphones to hear the Marshall, even though the peavy classic series and the delta blues were the best pick for a budget conscious tone freak ~10-15 years ago
Michael Palmer I sore them in Sheffield a couple years ago and ever since then I've been obsessed with them, they are one of the main reasons I'm I musician
Cool video and great sounds. Do Ritchie Blackmore please! One minor correction - it's not a parametric EQ, but graphic one. Rather different beast. Cheers
I like the idea of EQs as boosters. Just didn't know they were also good for pre-boost (before the gain stage of the amp). That's interesting. I would use pure EQs only after the primary gain stage, inside the fx loop. New thrusters. Matt , Rabea ... thanks!!!
Eduardo Rivera I agree! A cranked up 50 watt jcm 800, talk box, wah, and a fender strat with a 16-20 ohm custom wound JM Rolph pickup in the bridge with a Floyd will get you damn close. Mick uses 50 watt amps because he can crank them up higher and get more power amp gain from them. His rig is pretty simple but crazy expensive. Vintage Marshall 800s, VHTs and Soldanos. Been trying to figure out how he gets his tone for years. Talked to his tech a few years back and that's what I was told. Hope that helps.
I've been a huge Aerosmith fan since the late 1970s so I was really excited to see this video as I know their sound better than any you've done before. I think you've done well with the lead sounds but the rhythm is as far away from being right as any video I've seen you do. To be fair, I've never been a big fan of Aerosmith guitar tones in isolation but they work with the songs. There's a bit of a lack of power in your rhythm sounds but the leads have got that really jangly quality that's been there throughout the decades. They've used so much different gear over the years though, it was always goin to be a big ask to recreate it on a budget. How about Jake E Lee sometime?
What about doing an episode on Kvelertak? It'd be interesting to see if you can pull of their three guitars sound using only two guitars. Also they sound killer!
Guuuys I've said it before but I'm gonna say it some more😂please do the jam, cos I can't figure out how to get Paul's tone without a rickenbacker, which are luuuuudicrously expensive haha
Past few times I’ve seen them, Brad used a strat extensively. I know he did a Hendrix tribute project for a while in the 2000s so whether he embraced the strat after that, who knows. Would’ve been cool to see a strat/LP dual thing. As you said, they have such a large back catalog and have used everything, so good job I think overall.
@Andertons Music Co Can you guys please do a sounds like for either Boston, Los lonely boys, spin doctors, u2, creedance Clearwater revival, def leppard, Eric Johnson, Huey Lewis and the news, or van halen?? Also a cool one for a double rig would be the eagles. They're all really good and have cool tones and it would be awesome to figure out how to get any of their tones. Thanks!
do Aersomith by busting the bank! livin on the edge, amazing, Jaded, and crazy, he has a lot of different sounds id really like to hear and know how to emulate!
and Dream On cos it has that bitey but chorusy sound and it's aerosmith's no.1 song
and also they can get a talkbox for sweet emotion
Sound like Lynyrd Skynyrd without busting the bank
Man, them or Allman Brothers.....both have some awesome old school rock beauty!
Squier Strats and Epiphone Les Pauls
Sound Like EVH!
Samuel Gutierrez Just use the EVH equipment man hahahahaha
For his modern tone, yes, but his older tones (VH1 era) his EVH amps dont really do that "too" well, his sound has evolved over the years and his newer tones sound quite a bit more modern to me, less brown and more gnarly, if you will. This is all my opinion of course :)
Yeah the 1978 EVH brown sound!
YEEEEEEEESSSSSS
They too scerred.
My father gave me Get a Grip when I was something like 13, and I listened to it over and over again to that day. And I must say, you absolutely nailed the tone!
Could we please get Pearl Jam (Mike McCready) please?
I could get behind this one if they also did Stone - IMHO he is the real sound behind them.
18:14 That's graphic, not parametric :D
That's the first time that Rebea said something wrong, *he is human like us! :D*
What about Sounds Like Deep Purple, Jeff Beck, Free, Primus or Rush?
I've never considered the application of an eq pedal in so many ways, bea uses one almost every sounds like and the impact it has is huge. Great vid again guys, thanks

I was so stoked to see you guys pick up the Les Paul CM, been wanting one of those for quite some time! Then you chose the other satin finished LP im in love with.... i get so jelly from these videos, great job on the sound for this one. Saw Aerosmith a few months ago and you got a lot of the sounds with more clarity than they did :P
Sounds like:
RUSH
Deep Purple
This was a good one. It felt like it was almost self-evident what gear would be needed, but you really took it a bit further than what was expected.
Great job!
don't know about anyone else, but £1500 would defo break my bank
If you take out the guitar, most rigs can be had under 1000, and then if you go used, you could probably get everything for under 700 (aside from guitar)
I spend £1500 on lunch everyday
For a whole rig that's a bargain.
Don't need to get everything at once
I think I spendt about 1500£ on my gear which is a used Ltd ec1000 deluxe and a squier strat that I put noiseless pickups in, a dsl40c which I got cheap on sale, a crybaby wah, reverb + delay pedal and an angry troll boost/drive pedal
Good work guys, you got that classic tone pretty nailed on. And thanks for trying to steer away from the DSL40, I'm quite impressed with the Peavey.
Sounds Like Cliff Burton?
James Florin I agree, maybe they could get Nathan from All about the bass involved in that episode, it would be really cool to see what they would pick with Wah and distortion
a side series dedicated to bass would be rad!
Adam Sweet Yeah definetly!
James Florin
A bass wah
a compressor
a vintage big muff
Conner Drakon Or a morely Power Wah, a compressor and the new big muff Pi

Great job boys! You´ve really nailed that sound that I love...classic, hard, British overdrive with no fizz. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I think all of us Canadian fans are waiting for a "Sounds like RUSH" - or sounds like Alex Lifeson :)
I haven't seen many metal bands on sounds like how bout Trivium. They use Kempers so it'd be cool to see you get their tone on a budget

And sounds like Buckethead
MEGADETHHH
Epicness01sgr yes to all of those please
I would LOVE a "KISS" sounds like. I wanna know how, and what I need. To make my guitar sound like Paul's and Ace's from "Alive". Thanks!

Sounds like The Ventures?
This would be fantastic!
Owen_W great idea. my middle name is owen btw.
I think I need a Peavey Classic 20.
And a JRAD Archer.
And that Boss EQ.
Finishin.My.Coffee I have the peavey, into an Orange cab, and a LP. works for me :)
I'd even go with the DSL40 if I could get the kind of tone Rabea is getting here.
That Peavey is insanely good for almost everything. I use mine with a Marshall 1960A or the matching Peavey 2x12 (depending on the situation) and it delivers. Not a perfect match with the V30 though, I prefer them combined with G12T-75´s. Thomas7503 yah tthey have
Are you guys aware Aerosmith just announced 2017 will be their last year on tour/active? This is perfect timing.
I have no issue with the DSL, it isn't Matt and Bea's fault EVERYONE uses a Marshall.
not everyone uses marshall, but a lot of the greats do
In Marshall’s defense, the old school sounds are really unforgiving to play with, but with the right player, amazing sounds can be had.
Excellent! I've been waiting for this one!
For the next one how about sound like Pearl Jam without busting the bank?
I asked for this one because I was convinced they wouldn't be able to do it and....

Leaving a like just because you didn't delete it later.

Eric Clapton By busting the bank!
John Collier the most overrated guitar player ever
emct001 listen to cream, thats where he earned his guitar god status. his stuff after was tame
Perhaps, but lots of good tones. Also, Kurt Cobain.
knopfler was miles ahead if im honest, put out better songs and solos for longer
emct001 well yeah and I think Clapton was better, why don't you say Knopfler by busting the bank instead of arguing with me about the music I prefer?
I'm glad you did some older songs! Geezers like me don't think that anything after Night in the Ruts/Right in the Nuts is really Aerosmith! :-)
Sounded great! I'm gonna have to get one of those Archer pedals!
