Thank you for this, Dr. Dray! Very helpful! And thank you for telling parents to protect their children's skin. I see so many parents encouraging their kids to "get some sun". The parents won't be around to see them suffer in old age with skin cancer. I have an uncle who has had 4 skin cancer surgeries and he has suffered greatly because of the sun damage he received in his youth but that was way before anyone knew the dangers of the sun (he's in his 80s). love love love Altruist!! It's super affordable for what you get and I love that it doesn't have a sunscreen smell. My husband and I used it throughout our 2 week trip to Thailand. It protected us VERY well from the sun over there, and I was amazed we didn't come back with any burns whatsoever! I don't remember it being greasy on my face, but then again, with how hot it was, I noticed my sweat a lot more than any grease from the sunscreen! I have worn it a bit in the UK before I leave for work, and I have never noticed it too greasy with the 30 or 50, but like Dr Dray said, maybe that's due to the weather or what your skin is like that day! Thanks Dr Dray!!!
So helpful Dr. Dray. Thank you. Because of you both my husband I no longer go out without sunscreen and go no more than two hours without reapplying. We are both in our 60s and wish we had done so earlier but it is never too late to correct a bad habit. My favorite drugstore facial sunscreen is the Australian Gold Tinted Sunscreen SPF 50. I also use the PCA Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum Water Resistant SPF 45 Sunscreen and my husband uses the DRMTLGY Broad Spectrum SPF 50. His skin looks great since he's been using it since it also contains anti-aging skincare and the caste is 0 even in his beard and I no longer need to wear foundation. I know they aren't drugstore but your recommendations led us to them and we wear them daily which is what counts. I've been trying the find the Japanese Mommy sunscreen for a few months but it's always sold out but I'll keep trying. Thank you from the bottom of my of my heart for all your work to educate your fans. You are wonderful! I have recommended your channel to all my friends and colleagues. I'm always bragging on you. Your Mom must be so proud of you for your accomplishments and for the way you are making such a positive impact in people's lives. ❤️❤️❤️ Update: found it on Amazon thru your link...thanks again Dr. Dray. Can't wait to try it. My newest mania is sunscreen! 😉
Garnier Ombrelle Sport Endurance Spf 50 is amazing. Fairly big bottle for around 15$ CAD. No fragrance, no cast, not oily. I have fair, dry and sensitive skin and it doesn't seem to sting. Ombrelle is an overall good brand.
I bought the coppertone because of your recommendation and we liked it a lot. Offcourse, it leaves a minimal cast and for us it was a bit greasy but compared to the other 30 mineral sunscreens I tested, it's overall a lot better
Thank you for this video. I am encouraging all my family members to up their SPF game, being able to go to the local Walmart or CVS and grab a good sunscreen makes it so much easier to convince them to actually do it. Thanks for all your time and attention you put into the details!
This was great! I’ve got the kiddos applying sunscreen by themselves each AM and before they go out to play (ages 4 & 7). Even the baby helps apply it too. Thanks for your videos!
I find the Cerave SPF30 mineral sunscreen doesn’t leave a terrible cast on my face, and seems to blend okay enough for me to wear it. Thank you for the recommendations! I was just out shopping sunscreens, but a toddler meltdown cut it short. Now I’m glad it did - this is extremely helpful for when I go back!
Big thank you for not only providing us with your professional input, but ALSO for writing your recommendations in the description box. You made my shopping trip very easy 😁
Been using the coppertone one for a while and really love it. I'm fair and been done wrong before with chemical sunscreens. If you blend a little at a time. Build it up instead of just applying the recomend amount all at once it really helps the cast. But for darker tones I'm pretty sure it be ashy. I use it to lighten my darker foundations.
The cetaphil SPF oil control moisturizer is really good ! I have really oily skin but I don't like a matte finish. It leaves the skin with a healthy looking shine and zero cast. I will say it Burns around the eyes so use a mineral sunscreen for eye protection!
I just bought la roche posay anthelios xl shaka fluid in drug store (im European) and its new reformulated version and its sooo good in terms of very high protection and cosmetic elegance. Its even better than the old version.
I would love to see a round up of your top Japanese sunscreens! They're kinda hard to find information on sometimes, so if you've already researched them I'd love to hear your top picks.
I have to say some of the videos I have found about the way you look hurts my feelings. I love you and all the things that you have taught me about health. I wish I had amazing skin like you. Why do people feel the need to bash others life choices?
I love when you go over a group of products again (sunscreens especially) because it’s helpful to see the side by side comparisons and it’s yet another learning session of yours. The learning sessions are very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing all your specialized knowledge with your subscribers. I’ve learned so much and put your information into daily practice. Thank you! 😊💙💙
I just found the Coppertone Sensitive Skin 50 SPF at Marshall’s (not the face kind, just the general kind) for only $5! I tested some on my hand and arm and I felt like it did really well in blending in and not leaving a white cast. (I have pretty fair skin, so I cannot speak for how it works for darker skin tones.) I stocked up!
I am glad you comment on the shine factor in your sunscreen reviews. Perhaps you can give sunscreens a rating for shine/matte finish similar to the white cast rating in future.
I love the Altruist SPF 30. State-of-the-art, and cheap as chips. Didn't like the SPF 50 version as much (for the face) which was way too shiny. 👍 These days, we're spoilt for choice with affordable sunscreens.
Coppertone pure and simple baby is the ONLY sunscreen that doesnt burn and sting my skin. Its really cost effective and is super liquidy for a mineral sunscreen
I absolutely love the Biore UV Kids 50 and the Isehan Mommy UV Aqua Milk. You can really feel (and smell) the difference between these and the ones that contain alcohol (like Hada Labo). Thank you for clueing us into the Japanese sunscreens! And the Altruist, and the Coppertone, and the Elta, and ALL the others 😉. We appreciate you!
Brilliant, like the sun, and because of you, the sun won't hurt me! Thank you for this one! My dry/sensitive face loves Oil of Olay Sensitive and Blue Lizard Sensitive is my go-to for body (and face) when I and my bike hit the trail...I just ordered Altruist, am on the way to ordering others.....and you've got me wearing a hat!
I remember her not liking that there was fragrance.. But that's all I can think of. I feel like she's "reviewed" a few of their products through Ulta/Target vlogs.
Man ol' man i bought that stuff thinking it was the BEST and i made it about 10 minutes down the road and had to turn around and rush back to my house to wash it off bc my eyes were burning SO BAD i literally could barely see!!! They burned all day even after i washed my face/flushed my eyes out. Apparently i got some a lil too close up my cheeks but Dr. Dray puts hers on her eyelids!!! I will NEVER attempt to wear Sun Bum again and my face is extremely tolerant.
@@amandakay789 yeah I have some one right now it burns a bit but it's one of the beat sunscreens I've ever used especially if you're allergic to sunscreen like my friend is she likes it and it's the only sunscreen shes found that she can use
Was mad at myself for spending money on it, because I couldn't take walking around with that fragrance on my face all day. If you're sensitive to fragrance this is a no go.... Smells great but not good after you keep breathing it in.
I really appreciate your sunscreen videos because I take 2 medications that make my skin sensitive to the sun. Thanks for the time you put in to make these videos and test these products.
Coppertone pure and simple is the only thing I use on my kids. The cast is strong I just rub and rub till it's not so white anymore. My son breaks out to the spray sunscreens. If theres an easier way let me know :) oh and i bought this on clearance at target half off right now.
I’ve used Blue Lizard on my kids for years. I also use others layered sometimes if they’re swimming or if we’re heading out for the day. I did use California baby on them for a few years. I wasn’t aware of the UVA filters until a few years ago. I wish they would have to label these sunscreens more appropriately. It’s frustrating! I’ve learned so much from you and greatly appreciate you taking the time out to educate us! I’ve recommended you to so many people. Hopefully my kids will carry on and apply sunscreen when they’re adults like I do to them now. Sometimes they get annoyed (especially my son)lol.
Love the Coppertone face for sensitive skin topped with my new fav.... Ombrelle tinted mineral 60. It reminds me of La Roche Posays tinted mineral but it’s only $14 here in Canada 😁 It also has no fragrance etc.😊❤️👍🏻
This video and your detailed explanations has been so helpful for me. Thank you so much. I have never been able to afford a derm visit before (I finally will be able to go this year!) I’m 28 and I’m African American and finding a affordable sunscreen that doesn’t make me look like a ghost is roughhhhhh. Today I purchased the Olay sunscreen You mentioned in this video (I was torn between that and Neutrogena healthy defense) for whatever reason I tend to trust Neutrogena more with my sensitive skin but in the end I chose the the Olay sunscreen moisturizer for sensitive screen (because I am darker, acne prone and sensitive) I’ve learned so much from you. I’m so appreciative. I’d always bought SPF 15 for my face without knowing that wasn’t good enough.
Still using daily coppertone pure and simple on face followed by Cetaphil tinted sunscreen. No my 16 yr old is using this plus my cerave moisturizing cream. He loves it and NO breakouts from it. Love all your information
People need to stop complaining about cast left by zinc sunscreens. You need to work it in. I put a quarter size of amount on each part of my body. For example. Quarter amount on my shoulder, upper arm, lower arm, and etc. Rub it in. You don't see it.
@@thatsfunny2051 tell me about it. I'd go on trips to beach areas and walk the beach and your entire vacation every day is mostly Outdoors walking around and sightseeing and shopping and all of that and I thought one time application in the mornings was enough, even if I perspired oh, I felt it had absorbed in my skin and nothing could move it. Generally I did not get in the water except maybe my feet just walking through along the shore.
I didn't realise how much I enjoyed your content until I realised how excited I got when I saw a new upload. I love putting on sunscreen now because of you. Keep up the work!
Thank you for this! I needed this info because i have a friend who always gets a sunburn in the summer because she says ALL sunscreens burn her eyes when she gets in the water. I'm going to hopefully prove her wrong. I think I'm going to try the Coppertone pure and simple or the banana boat simply protect. Always such good information. Again, thank you!
Great advice. I also use a Buff--a stretchy cloth that can be used to cover your face many different ways. I use it while driving long distances and on long hikes. I used to be self-conscious about it. But now I see more and more people where it.
Thank you so much for this update! I used the Eucerin for about 15 years with great results. I’ve been experimenting with other ones based on your recommendations!
I love the Eucerin. I’ve tried the CVS Clear Zinc spf 50. The Australian Gold Botanical spf 50 tinted. The Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Pure and Simple mineral spf 50 listed here. And the Differin Oil Control spf mentioned here. All irritate me or have a crazy cast except for the Eucerin Sensitive Skin spf 30.
Australian subscriber here ☀️☀️☀️ my altruist order (purchased because of your recommendation) finally came and I have say it’s the best sunscreen I’ve ever tried! Thank you so much!!!! My skin is the best it’s ever been ❤️❤️❤️
My all time favorite drugstore mineral sunscreen is Aveeno baby continuous protection SPF 50. . It’s moisturizing,, but not too shiny. The cast dries down, and leaves skin with a beautiful finish. I’ve become a sunscreen junky lately (think you Dr Dray), and this is a great one.
By the way guys, the ingredients in the Pure and Free Coopertone And the Coppertone Kids Tear Free sunscreen have IDENTICAL ingredients, down to the placement. So it’s clearly the same sunscreen they put into two different packages for marketing purposes
Great recommendations! I just visited the Houston Zoo on Saturday. I remembered your example and made sure I put sunscreen on my ears! It’s so easy to forget to apply on the ears, but now I can’t forget your words about skin cancer on the ears. No thank you! Keep up the good work!! ❤️❤️
Such good advice, as that's where my dad developed stage zero melanoma at the age of 67. Fortunately, it was caught early enough before spreading, but even at stage zero, he still had to have the top portion of his ear reconstructed. His dermatologist said it was from sun damage he sustained from bad sunburns as a child (he started wearing sunscreen diligently as an adult), & it took that long to develop. Scary.
@@scotzmnswife Thank you for sharing your dad's experience. **Fair skin plus too much time at the beach as a little one can be a deadly combination.** My husband's uncle has actually lost an eye and from skin cancer spreading on his face. He's still alive and has a fantastic attitude about the whole situation, but I imagine looking in the mirror was quite an adjustment in the beginning!
If you have a deep complexion like myself (CYO Lifeproof 113), Coopertone Sensitive for face and BB Simply Protect Sport will leave a very noticeable white cast. In addition I didn't find BB Sport to be water resistant; I have watery eyes and this came off in a white streaky mess, and when applied it can come off as chalky and patchy. I'm actually going to return that one today. I did like Kiss Me Mommy, though it can leave you with a shiny face, which I don't mind during the winter. Cotz Tinted sunscreen will also leave a faint gray cast (probably from the tint not being dark enough), but I love that under makeup because it fills in my pores (probably because it has the same consistency as pore filling primers). Coopertone Clear Zinc doesn't leave a white cast the way the above mentioned sunscreens and the only sunscreen that you can easily pick up from the drugstore that's affordable. I do want to try that Olay, but I've only been able to find them online.
Both mineral and physical sunscreens make my eyelids swell badly. It's such a terrible allergic rxn. I do wear sunglasses often but not sure what else to do aside from avoiding applying to those areas.
I have very very dry, skin and rosacea, and occasional acne, and i really like the coppertone pure and simple, super affordable, lasts a long time and i found it to be moisturizing and non irritating. I wore it through the summer while working outside everyday, never got burned or had a flare up while wearing it. Also it’s the same as the baby version of it, except the baby one is like one or two dollars more.
How about the No Ad sunscreens?? I am white-white...and put A LOT on my body...a lot! I need something that comes in a HUGE JUG and is not very expensive. I bought 3 of the good ones for my face and neck, need something cheap for my 5'9" legs, arms, torso....
You didn’t mention the cast on Blue Lizard. By your scale, I’d say it’s probably a 1, or a 1.5. Even with a lot of tinted moisturizer over it, I could still see the white. It also leaves a pretty noticeable sheen. My neck and chest were shiny all day.
Dr. Dray, thank you for covering great sunscreens we can buy in drugstores. Also, I appreciate that you've shown links for UPF hats. I walk a lot, and now I have 3 UPF hats since I started listening to you. I received one of them as a gift, since I talk to friends about your UA-cam channel.
The Isehan Mommy was my Holy Holy grail for my dry skin. But it appears that they have discontinued it. It IS available through a couple Amazon Japanese 3rd party sellers for 2x what it was last summer. Bummer. So I decided to try Altruist. Got the SPF 50 and its tricky but I love it. Cant layer with moisturizers but it's super hydrating so I'm fine without. Reordered the 50 and added some SPF 30 (and it all showed up today YAY). Of note, the SPF 30 comes in a 200 ml bottle while the SPF 50 is in a 100 ml bottle... for the same price. *Update* Just put on the Altruist SPF 30 for the first time. It's a completely different formula. It's a stiffer mousse lotion compared to the slippery SPF 50. The 3rd ingredienton the 50 is glycerin (and you can tell -it never dries down completely). Glycerin is 7th in the SPF 30 and the texture is not greasy or drying. Great first impression. Here's hoping!

I was just looking for one and found out that neutrogena’s helioplex clear face sunscreen is really good. It didn’t even leave a white cast.
Dr. Dray, can you please review the SunBum Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 70. I love it but I’d like your input as a derm. Thanks 🙏🏼
Update: found it on Amazon thru your link...thanks again Dr.
Ombrelle is an overall good brand.
i had a garnier ombrelle last year that i reviewed and loved
Dr. Dray lights up when she gets to talk about sunscreen 😊
The Mommy one gives me a reaction and makes my face bright red. I think it’s the raspberry extract in it.
The Coopertone Pure and Simple is excellent. I do not use it on my face, I use it on my arms and hands.
Carmen Guevara - hi, did it leave a white cast on your skin or no? Thank you.
@@noworriesbeachbum2319 You have to rub it well for it to disappear. And, of course, do not use a huge amount. I really like it.
Carmen Guevara - okay thank you 😊 I’m gonna try it 👍
I find the Cerave SPF30 mineral sunscreen doesn’t leave a terrible cast on my face, and seems to blend okay enough for me to wear it.
Thank you for the recommendations! I was just out shopping sunscreens, but a toddler meltdown cut it short. Now I’m glad it did - this is extremely helpful for when I go back!
I like the CeraVe sunscreen as well. So funny, a toddler meltdown!
Doc Dray you are the only person I know that has the most beautiful lash that is very visible even on videos 😍
Thanks!
Big thank you for not only providing us with your professional input, but ALSO for writing your recommendations in the description box. You made my shopping trip very easy 😁
?? My description bar is empty, even when expanded. Could you copy and paste the list as a comment?
@@26Bluegb Odd :/ I'm so sorry, I'm on my phone & it will not allow me to copy the text.
You are psychic! I was just about to head to the drugstore for a new SPF!
The Olay one is the best combo sunscreen I've tried, and it has niacinamide!
Can’t thank you enough! I was taking screenshots so that I have them ready when I head to the drug store!
Copper tone Pure and Simple has by far been the best sunscreen I’ve ever used. Never came close to burning using this. You were spot on!
Thank you for including cruelty-free options. 😁
Yes! It's a great sunscreen and my new favorite too
It has incredible UVA protection. I haven't tried it yet but I think it will be a bit too drying for my skin type.
@@kr16794 I have facial eczema and it's not very drying, even with the alcohol in it :) but I moisturize before I put on sunscreen anyway
Oneironautin 93 I might just have to try it then! 😄
I have acne prone skin and darker skin. Just bought the Olay complete spf 30 sunscreen for $12.27. Can't wait to try it!
(I have pretty fair skin, so I cannot speak for how it works for darker skin tones.) I stocked up!
coppertone has some good sunscreens :)
I am glad you comment on the shine factor in your sunscreen reviews. Perhaps you can give sunscreens a rating for shine/matte finish similar to the white cast rating in future.
I just started using Biore UV for kids. I love it already. Moisturizing, comfortable, and no white cast.
I love the Altruist SPF 30. State-of-the-art, and cheap as chips. Didn't like the SPF 50 version as much (for the face) which was way too shiny. 👍 These days, we're spoilt for choice with affordable sunscreens.
:)
I went out an bought Banana Boat simply protect sport on your recommendation. So far I love it! Thanks Dr. Dray
glad to hear!
Your skin is so beautiful! I would never wear makeup if my skin looked like yours
thanks!
Coppertone pure and simple baby is the ONLY sunscreen that doesnt burn and sting my skin. Its really cost effective and is super liquidy for a mineral sunscreen
Yay! More sunscreen videos! It's my obsession. Thank you. Your videos are life.
We appreciate you!
when a sunscreen feels “waterproof” and is hard to get off at the end of the day, does that mean it is more protective?
Brilliant, like the sun, and because of you, the sun won't hurt me! Thank you for this one! My dry/sensitive face loves Oil of Olay Sensitive and Blue Lizard Sensitive is my go-to for body (and face) when I and my bike hit the trail...I just ordered Altruist, am on the way to ordering others.....and you've got me wearing a hat!
thanks!
Would be interested in what you think of Sun Bum sunscreen?
@@amandakay789 only because I put a little in my eyes but it says you're supposed to wait for 30 minutes before like going outside
Coppertone Pure and Simple is my go to for my family.
Good morning ☀️ love this videos appreciate your time and dedication,, now my kids wear sunscreen 24/7 and upf cloths and hats 👍🏼
thanks for watching!
Emily Patricia where did you by the Ombrelle?? I love it too, perfect colour for me but can’t find at Shoppers (yet?)
LAS I found it at London Drugs 😊
You'll find it on Walmart too
Emily is the coverage same as la roche posay or is the white cast visible?
You are the best thank you!! I began applying sunscreen daily since I was 18ish 👍🏽💓
:)
I did too. I just wish I had known about the importance of reapplication at that age.
One of few channels I have the notification bell turned on for. Thanks for all the great info Dr Dray!
PinoyShinobi lol. SAME!
Omg black shirt look so beautiful on you!. I love the contrast between black shirt to pale skin, it's Look so gothic and beautiful
Covfefe Kim do u use eucrein sunscreen after moisturizer.. I use cera V moisturizer
Australian subscriber here ☀️☀️☀️ my altruist order (purchased because of your recommendation) finally came and I have say it’s the best sunscreen I’ve ever tried! Thank you so much!!!! My skin is the best it’s ever been ❤️❤️❤️
So glad to hear!
I'm a big fan of the Isehan Kiss me Mommy one, I've discovered it through you. I've just finished it and I will put it on my "favorites" list!
I love it when I own something that Dr. Dray recommends! 🥳🤩
Thank you! I just get overwhelmed trying to just find an affordable easy to buy sunscreen. This helps a lot.
Thanks for watching
MaryJo Mouldimg yes very very helpful I just go to the store turn in the video and look at the list and know what to look for 🤗
Yay!!! I’m glad u liked the coppertone!🤗
Hello Everyone !! I am a medium - tan Dominican women and I highly recommend the Cetaphi PRO DERMA CONTROL
Olay Complete SPF 30 sensitive stings the skin and eyes.
Sarah Harold been using it for years
and I agree it stings the eyes esp after workout
I doubt Cotz Flawless complexion spf 50 will give you a white cast.
Sue Ludwig same! I usually just buy whatever is the biggest and cheapest for my body since it isn’t sensitive to the non-mineral ones like my face is.
I love no ad sunscreens, I've been using them since I was a kid. Mineral ones by them leave a strong cast though.
You didn’t mention the cast on Blue Lizard. By your scale, I’d say it’s probably a 1, or a 1.5. Even with a lot of tinted moisturizer over it, I could still see the white. It also leaves a pretty noticeable sheen. My neck and chest were shiny all day.
Thanks for pointing out the ones that are good for oilier skin (raising my hand)!!
Isehan makes great sunscreens! Glad to hear it has Dr Dray’s stamp of approval.
