OMG this is terrific! My mom has a supply of alcohol inks. I'm pricing the cuff blanks and they're fairly reasonable, a dozen 1/2 inch on Etsy for $26. I have three teenage nieces and this would be the perfect craft for us to do together. An 8 oz. kit of Art Resin at Hobby Lobby is about $28. Thank you, Sue Board, for sharing your technique!!
Hi Regina, I'm not sure what specific brand of primer was used, however we'd recommend using a spray paint/primer that is suitable for use over metal with a smooth gloss finish to allow the alcohol ink to move easily once applied.
OMG this is awesome!!! I already have the bracelet shaper, alcohol ink, and ArtResin......I just need to get the bracelet blanks!!! Oh I can't wait to try this!!! Thank you so much Sue for sharing this!!! 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie
Hi Angelique - so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! Sue purchased this copper bracelets here in Canada but I imagine you'd be able to find them in Australia too. Look up suppliers that make metal blanks and tags for stamping etc. Then she used a spray primer so that the ink would adhere.
I know alcohol inks fade with uv exposure, and Art Resin is the best at helping prevent that, but should you take any precautions to help the colors stay vibrant? What length of time(months, years) do the pieces tend to last? Thanks you for the tutorials and for giving me more ways to use Art Resin.
Alcohol inks vary greatly in intensity from brand to brand. Some will change color when they are dropped into resin, others can fade very quickly. Ours are highly saturated and provide an intense color and won't change when it drops into resin. It has a lightfast rating between 4-6 which is very good. All alcohol ink is dye based ( as opposed to a pigment based colorant like ResinTint ) so you'll want to keep it out of direct sunlight to help prevent fading.
We'd recommend using a spray paint/primer that is suitable for use over metal with a smooth gloss finish to allow the alcohol ink to move easily once applied.

THANK YOU Sue for sharing your techniques for your AMAZING copper cuffs! THEYRE BEAUTIFUL!!!❤ I'm wondering what type primer you use & if you can use India inks or acrylic paints? Thanks in advance!😊 Btw....I'm NOT a fan of using the word "eyeball" in relation to measuring 2 part epoxy resin. That could be disastrous for a beginner to resin!!! Also resin should be stirred in the same direction for its mixing process, otherwise it heats up WAY too fast, cutting your designing time to almost nothing. That's just me tho....🤷♀️
You can use a glossy primer or glossy paint that is suitable for use over metal. For this effect you do need to use alcohol inks, but try something else and maybe you'll create something just as fabulous!
@@fullajoyy I'm not sure exactly what brand of primer Sue uses, but inquire at your hardware store or paint store- find a spray paint that has a gloss finish and can be used over metal. The gloss finish makes it easier for the alcohol ink to move on.
You can use a spray paint/primer that is compatible for use over metal. We find that a gloss finish works best with alcohol ink and allows it to move nicely. The copper blanks can be ordered online.
You can cut your own copper like Sue does, or make it super simple and just order online--google search "copper bracelet blanks". You will find different widths available based on your preference.
Hi Shailja, most times brushes used in resin are bound for the trash but small ones like these may be able to be cleaned. You can try soaking in isopropyl alcohol to clean them out and wiping on paper towel.
Tres jolie, pouvez-vous faire un tutoriel en francais ? et me dire ou je peux trouver les encres et le matériels ? ~ ~ ~ Very nice, can you do a tutorial in french? and tell me where I can find the inks and materials?
You can order Alcohol Inks and ArtResin directly from our website: www.artresin.com. The copper blanks and other supplies can be found online or at your local craft/art supplier. We would love to add french tutorials, I will certainly pass along the request :)
I’ve waited 12 hours for the resin on the bracelets to cure before bending them. But they still seem to be tacky and my fingerprints show on the resin. How much longer do you think I should wait. They’re tacky
You can use a white glossy spray paint, one that works over metal. The secret is to have a glossy smooth surface so the alcohol ink flows easily overtop.
It is true that in general inks are not as light fast as other pigments. You can use a UV protectant sealer to help protect the colours before sealing with ArtResin.
Those are beautiful! I love learning new things that I can do with resin. I am definitely going to have to try this!
The bracelets are gorgeous! I usually stay away from making jewelry, but I going to try this. Awesome gifts! Thank you.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes :)
Absolutely gorgeous

Yes! Thank you Sue! We are so excited that Sue shared her technique with us. Have fun Shannon :)
Gorgeous pieces.
So pretty!
Beautiful!!! Sue Board, your jewelry is just Awesome!! May I ask what primer do you use?
I was about to write the same question :)
I didn't read the comments before I asked the same question. Flexible and adheres to copper? Would gesso work?

I turn green with copper. Do you ever prime and resin the inside too?
You certainly could!

Im unsure as Sue cut these herself but there are standard sizes at your local craft store :)

Very nice 👌

Hi great bracelets! Can I ask, what do you prime it with?
You can use a high gloss spray paint that is suitable for use over metal.

These were done on 18 gauge copper. Primer is a white glossy spray paint suitable for use over metal.

Would this process work is you added small photos to make a photo bracelet?
Hi Jill, we haven't tried that specifically, however I can't see why not! Give it a shot, I am sure it will be awesome!
No se quiebra la resina al cerrar la pulsera?
La resina tiene cierta flexibilidad por lo que funciona muy bien en esta aplicación.
May I ask how you clean the paintbrush after using it with alcohol ink and raisin ?

ArtResin takes about 24 hours to feel cured to the touch and 72 hours to reach a full cure.

When you do the second bend after 24 hrs do you do that by hand?
Yes, after the first bend, you can do the other final adjustments by hand.

sure would help if you killed the music while people were talking....its hard to hear her talking with that music going.
Thank you so much for the feedback - we appreciate you letting us know!
"if" not "is"
Alcohol ink fades in pieces, it would work if they were kept out light. I wish it would not fade as it makes beautiful designs
