Hope you all enjoyed this!! Lots of lil tips and tricks in this video! Homemade silicone molds, marbling resin, drilling holes in resin without cracking it, and more!
Hi Kathy, yes many artists use mica and apply it to a mold prior to adding resin. You just brush on a very small amount of mica then pour resin overtop.
HI Ladies, Loved both your finished Tiered Trays 🙂👍. Please can you answer 2 questions for me How long does it take for the resin to dry …………………And with the fab home made moulds can they be Re-used thank you your help would be very much appreciated as I am very new to the Whole process of resin 👍❤️✨🙂 Lin
Hi Linda, when using ArtResin in a mold like this, you will want to wait at least a week or so for it to completely harden. Typically ArtResin reaches its full cure in 72 hours, but thicker applications take longer. These home made molds can be reused. If you want more uses you may want to consider backing them with clear vinyl shower curtain or similar which may be stronger than the parchment paper.
Hi Jeanette, do you mean how you create the hole in the center for the stand hardware? For the handmade mold we just used a drill once the resin had cured. You can see how we did this beginning around 17:00 in the video. Feel free to contact us at support@artresin.com if you need more info!
I thought for sure you would dirty pour to make marble. A bit of mica powder would really enhance the marble. What type of drill bit do you use? Wood? Metal? Masonary?
I forgot, I had another question! Can you pour a layer of resin, let it cure and then put your embellishments on top of that? What effect will that give you if you can do that? Thanks again for your tutorial!
I tried using parchment paper to make my own moulds, but the resin went cloudy :( I looked it up and advice was to wash with water, or polish it which didn’t work, the only other option is to sand it to fix it. I also found out , to ensure the resin comes out shiny, to use a mould that has a shiny surface rather than matte.
Yes definitely! Your mold will take on whatever texture you are molding. Parchment paper is not glossy so it will leave a matte finish. You can apply a thin layer of ArtResin over the cast item to restore the gloss :). Have a look at this video:ua-cam.com/video/tXkrFk2n1h0/v-deo.html

Thanks for watching!
I have a question. Making the homemade mold, can you use a measured dab of the silicone in the middle to make a pre “drilled” hole?
What a marvelous tutorial! Thank you! Question, please. Can any mica be used to “paint” a resin mold, prior to pouring the resin?

There are various techniques to replicate the look of marble, Carmen just shared the method she prefers. Just a standard wood drill bit works great!
