The Oilers: Man if only we had wingers to play with McDavid
Also the Oilers: Traded Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle
SMH
Yeah because fans got pissed at them when they weren't the problem. Then management listened to those fans and created one hole to fill another.
Well tbh either Hall or Eberle had to go. they couldn't afford them hall with Lucic and others on the books and Draisaitl, and Mcdavid needing contracts
@@pwnedeful If the leafs can afford Tavares, Matthews, Marner, and Nylander at 11,11,10.5, and 7 the Oilers could have easily afforded McDavid, Draisaitl, Holl and Eberle at 12.5, 8.5,6, and 6...
@@gobitzgames3704 yeah but you wont win a cup with having that much of your cap containing 6 players. Who does toronto have on defence other than rielly? Muzzin and brodie are entering their decline and bogosian is just for some toughness. Edmonton is still up against the cap and they still have trouble with depth scoring
@@pwnedeful Dude my entire point is they could have ran with those guys for significantly less than what the leafs are doing. Saying they couldnt afford them all so it was inevitable they had to go is BS they absolutely could have ran with those guys and had a chance at a cup.
Who remembers the TSN skit about the Oilers being mad about Eberle's first goal?
link?

Pepperidge Farm remembers
Vandermeer: That was probably my best pass all season.
The only notable moment in Shawn Horcoffs career
The only part of this trade tree that the Oilers won was a Keith Gretzky move right after they fired Chiarelli.
Okay @NHLbyMatty
I love this trade tree. Edmonton constantly traded down before basically trading laterally.
As an oiler fan this trade always breaks my heart
As a wings fan i think that if oilers re-sign Athanasiou they could be better because he was good in red wings and if they will re-sign him he will be even better with oilers
As a eberle die hard n oilers die hard makes me cry
What sucks most about Strome being dealt away from Edmonton was the fact that it was the first in 3 “I have to save my job” trades be Chiarelli. The other two? Caggiula for BRANDON MANNING and acquiring Petrovic. Strome really never got a fair shake in Edmonton, and the fans are to blame as much as management is. Many of them were calling for Eberle to be traded after the playoffs and they continue to do it. As well, I gotta really feel for Athanasiou. He may not have gotten a point vs Chicago, but he was one of 3-4 guys who actually bothered to show up and compete. He just couldn’t bury one.
@@Jo__Ko Smith didn't get a raise.
Edmontons fans are pretty braindead lol
Edmonton fans are the worst.
(Note, my team is the AHL affiliate of the Oilers.)
@@AJEDDY97 Edmonton fans arent as bad as Vancouver and Toronto fans but they’re pretty dumb
I think perhaps the worst part is that Strome has done significantly better the last 2 seasons than Eberle has. If the Oilers held onto Strome and let him play top 6 minutes with mcdavid or draisaitl they very well could have come out of this trade as winners.
I need the coffee brand you're drinking you have a lot of energy
Timothy's actually did sponsor him before (not sure if they still do)
@betterdays All right, enjoy your day
@betterdays then why click on the video, why comment, why get upset about a stranger on the internet? Why waste your life on things you don't care about?
@betterdays this is why therapy should be covered by OHIP
@betterdays Sounds like you’ve seen some... better days
Hats off to the video editor! Well done!
I'm happy Steve gets to do these, I think he's shocked other people like them lol
Management likeability: -100
Teammate likeability: -50
Primary line score: -100
So negative 100? Ok
@@Redditaurus no he is taking away 100
@@Redditaurus bruh
@@Redditaurus that’s negative 150…
Eberle in the 2019 playoffs was magic bro.
@@KneeJerkReactions13 Still pretty decent in the playoffs.
The eberle trade hurt a lot... he was the 2nd line forward the oilers so desperate need. He was really bad in the play offs but it was tough to see him go for nothing :/
I caught the sign language thank you at the end.i remember teaching my kids simple sings in the early years! These years are the very best. Keep up the good work!
Do the Hall & Reinhart trade trees. They're very confusing but my best estimates would be:
Taylor Hall > *Adam Larsson*
Matt Barzal > *Griffin Reinhart*
Reinhart > Bumzel
Thanks for bringing these back! Always great content
Loved it! New editing is a great addition
Love the new graphics, Sportsnet!! Great job Steve. LGI!
Thank you for bringing back Trade Trees. My favorite SN content (aside from game feeds).
Till the day I die I'll remember that World Jr. Eberle goal -- but not just cause of him. Ryan Ellis made an absolutely bonkers play at the blueline seconds before that to keep the puck in and keep that play alive. I always felt he never got the credit enough for saving the day for the guy who saved the day
Oh God. When you think about what Chiarelli did the Eberle trade tree illustrates it perfectly.
Love these trade trees really interesting to see how teams are still paying off from specific moves or in Edmonton case a deal that never was
Brandon Saad trade tree (from when he got sent to Columbus)
Can laugh at Chicago twice.
Fire Bowman NOW
Basically the Rick Nash trade tree
Interesting follow-up on the Pronger trade tree.
Gord: CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! Pierre: Oh yes I can! 🤣
They actually edited out Pierre’s response in rebroadcasts of that game. God, he was terrible!
crazy think is in this past season, eberle had a pace of 24 goals and 50 points. the man is crazy consistent
You should do the rendhart for 2 firsts trade tree if we're on the Islanders Oilers kick
Loving the new graphics, great job!
the goal call that got ruined by “i can”
I picked up NHL 21 this weekend, and decided to dig deep into the sport. These trade tree videos have helped greatly, thanks!
Do you ever try to make the same trades that were actually made in the real world in NHL video games to see if they would be approved? I haven't played the game in awhile and it was so hard to make trades unless you threw in draft picks.
@@stevencooke6451 I haven't touched any mode except Be A Pro 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ Franchise looks fun, though
Love the dunk on Pierre there. Happy to see these back and with some productions bumps to boot.
Finally trade trees are back!
Jordan Eberly was traded because oilers wanted to sign Lucic to a 6 million dollar deal so if we never signed lucic we would still be able to have eberly and we wouldn’t have Neal
Lucic was signed as a Free Agent on July 1st 2016. Eberle was traded in 2017. Lucic was signed before Eberle was traded. The trade was, supposedly, to make room for Connor and Leon’s extensions.
They moved Hall the year before to sign looch
@@paulramone284 they did. I forgot that part lol
No Eberle was traded because Chiarelli was trash and wanted to sign Kris Russell to an overpriced extension with a no move clause.
Worst GM of all time.
@@AdventuresWithWalker that too lol
You should do the Trevor Linden trade with it just currently ending
3:06 That US-Canada Final is still one of the greatest games ever though...
Someone needs to give the editor a raise!
But Steve as Pierre insisted on reminding us twice in less than 15 seconds, that play is purely the result of John Tavares’s “magical” play
You should do one on the Ron Francis trade to Pittsburgh in 1991. But just a heads-up, it may need to be a two-part episode. The tree is ENORMOUS, mainly the John Cullen and Ulf Samuelsson branches.
Damn Steve, the hair is looking Italian today
T.J. Oshie trade tree (it's a fun one, with a prospect and pick being traded back, a conditional pick with "if"s from heck that never came to be, and a great job of the Blues to build their roster over a number of trades)
You should do GM trees. Like the ripple effects that result from decisions that GMs made long after they're fired. It's kind of similar to trade trees but opens it up to include questionable draft picks or free agent signings.
"A lesson in cap management or.patience."
Why not both?
Oilers fan there, I think when we look at all the evidence the best we can hope for is one. My team's brass isn't... we'll say the shiniest
He obviously meant and/or there
Really goes to show how bad at trading PC was when his best trades were Hall for Larsson and acquiring Gagner lol. Everything else 💩
He didn’t even acquire gagner, that was interim GM Keith gretzky
@@_SnipezZ_ Lol, the only win in this trade tree was made by the intern
We traded GRIFFIN REINHART for the rights to Barzal's pick lmaoo
I was at that game in Ottawa. It was freaking electric.
Hard to understand why guys who just make you better (Reimer, Eberle) are so under-appreciated by their original teams.
Uhhh...I gotta ask before watching the video how this differs from the branch Pronger trade tree
Thanks for making me laugh Steve great video as always
Thanks for making my heart hurt again Steve... Broke my heart watching another favourite player get traded from Edmonton to New York... Now I'm sad thinking about not only Ebs getting traded but prime Smytty getting traded 😑😑😑
Man I cried for Smytty, Ebs and Hallsy :( been thinking about them lots. I named my kitty Stanley when i got him before game 7 2006 😭pronger..pisani..ahhh❤ go Oilers GO!!!
Craig Rivet trade tree!!! It involves: Pacioretty, Suzuki, DeBrincat, Tatar, Shaw, and Josh Gorges
Yes, more of this please. I love trade trees
Since the trade tree recently ended, you should do one on when Trevor Linden was traded from the Canucks.
Yup as a Oilers fan I dont miss Peter Chariellie
YESSSSS It's Back. Can we get a Shattenkirk-Erik Johnson trade tree?
Could you do the Rick Nash trade for the Rangers and Blue Jackets? I think it's one of the most complicated (and therefore interesting).
Look at the Whalers/Hurricanes side of the Chris Pronger-Brendan Shanahan trade. Got them the guy who just so happens to be their head coach right now in that tree plus about five other guys who were moderately important.
welcome back the trade tree
That John Carlson moment was one of my favorite moments as a hockey fan Steve! USA 🇺🇸!
Bring back the classic dang-its there are still some many good ones!
All i remember about Eberle in Edmonton was him being rubbed off the puck by everybody, Yamamoto is like a far better version of a similar build player, was so sick of Edmonton drafting small forwards.
I am in full agreement with you here.
LETS GO, finally a video including a positive for the islanders
Man if the Oilers still had Eberle and Hall with McDavid, Draisitil, Nug, and Yamamoto that would be a pretty great top 6
So, in total, the Oilers traded Jordan Eberle, Ryan Strome, Ryan Spooner, Sam Gagner and two second round picks for 2 points. Noice
Islanders fan here. I loved the Eberle trade the minute it happened. I still love it.
Do the Marian Gaborik trade tree
Rangers to the Blue Jackets
Could you imagine if the Sabres get Jordan Eberle in a trade this season or Patrick Kane to see what with Jack eichel & Taylor Hall that would be awesome great you do great Steve again
Response: Phil Kessel trade. Just reviewing it too: the trade of both Lucic and Hamilton almost simultaneous at junior draft for: C Miller, M Jones, 13th overall, 15th overall and 2 second rounders. it wasn't the trade of Hamilton, its what GM got for the 15th by the way Barzal played in the WHL and Calgary's pick was 15th. It could have been so much better. Eberle trade was bad, but it was a 6 mil line: Lucic, Nugent Hopkins, Eberle. Wasn't that right before McDavid's and Draisaitl's payraise? if i'm way off base don't hesitate.
Wasn't Wayne Gretzky traded? Did he get traded at the right time or too late?
Steve could you do a trade tree with Pat Lafontaine and Pierre Turgeon??? Sabres Islanders
I believe it was the mighty ducks still at the time, the good ol’ days
Steve: I don't want to blame Ken Holland for this . . . .
Me, a Red Wings fan: No no. Go ahead and blame Ken Holland all you want.
Hopefully the Pavel Bure trade tree from Vancouver to Florida is coming soon
Wait was this filmed at 4am?
Steve, there’s an amazing tree you have to do. With Jacob Markstrom’s Calgary signing ending his Vancouver tenure, the trade tree officially came to a close for................... wait for it....................... Trevor Linden! That thing has been going for ages.
Nice video
you don’t have to reminds me :(
can you do a mike sillinger trade tree please
What I just heard is that a bunch of players don't tend to play well in Edmonton, unless their names are Draisdal or McDavid.
Loved this video, just had trouble hearing what Steve was saying due to the background music :/
TRADE TREES ARE BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do the Cam Neely trade tree. 34 years later, it's still active.
The reason for this is bc his first name starts with Peter
Dangle, I think a good trade tree is the Blues trading Oshie to Washington. In a way, it helped both teams win the Cup. Especially once all the branches are revealed.
While that trade did get the Blues ROR, I think a just as important one. Is the trade way back when the blues traded Shanahan to the Whalers for Pronger. Yeah. That long ago. But THAT trade got the Blues the pick that gave them Jordan BINNINGTON. Just as important. Also got the Canes their cup down the line. Also helped the Red wings to a cup or two I think...
@@shjoncampbell6754 Now THAT would be a pretty big tree lol.
@@matthewwinthrop3278 I've done a fair amount of it myself but I wanna see steve do it. I'll have to redraw it and post it cause it's done on an sticky note lol lemme see if I still have my prezi account
The reason Eberle was moved is because he was scapegoated for the loss to Anaheim and thrown under the bus in the media by both the coach and GM. Everyone knew they had to move him after that. It was similar to when the Flames didn't dress Neal in the final game of the playoffs. You knew he wouldn't be back.
Amazing the way the Oilers turned Eberle into less than nothing.
You guys should do the Brent Burns Trade
The oilers are my team in the pacific. I’m starting to think jumping to the Kraken might be a smart move.
Eberly also ended up in Seattle
the crowd loved tavares's magical play
I always hated when he said that
Ahhhh the combined brilliance of Peter Chiarelli and Kenny Holland never cease to amaze me. Thanks for the two 2nd rounders and gagner Kenny!
@Skynertia dude Holland should have known better than trading two 2nd round picks for the guy that was easily the worst defensive player Detroit had on their roster
@Skynertia you really think it will be a late 2nd rounder? With that goalie tandem? And without really getting a better defensive core? Welcome to the ken holland show. Holland loves his guys and will bring in more former wings. Just wait until he signs abdlekader or Ericsson lol.
@Skynertia Literally almost all of Detroit fans wanted Athanasiou gone. So trading for him AND giving away 2 2nds is a horrible decision pandemic or not. I dont know how Holland could ever justify wanting AA...just listen to his fanbase in Det for once Holland!
Its so nice as an islanders fan to see a trade tree that the islanders actually won
they had steals in other trades like esa tikken . or steve smith follow those trees
Do a Mats Sundin for Wendel Clark trade tree
You should do the vesa toskala trade tree
Eberle Goal: ua-cam.com/video/R8v8C3scwvg/v-deo.html
How the Linden trade helped build the core of the 2011 Canucks
Greatest first goal I may see in my life
This trade was addition by subtraction. His defence is non existent and he quit driving the net after signing the 6x6. The spotlight was on him the moment he didn’t light it up on Connors wing, the lack of anything in the playoffs sealed his fate. I’m honestly more disappointed in Strome being traded than Eberle.
Do the the Rick Nash trade tree please
True story: i chose Eberle in hockey pools 2 years in a row precisely because of his WJ heroics. No regrets 😎
Sooooooooo thanks a lot Mr. Chiarelli 😐
Do the Toskola trade next
So let me get this straight they traded Ebbs for Strome then traded Strome for Spooner then traded Spooner for Ganger then traded Ganger and picks for AA to not resign AA. So they traded Ebbs for nothing lovely
Did chirelli win a single trade in his career in Edmonton or Boston??
He had some good trades with the Bruins, especially in his early days (aquiring Rask for Raycroft for example). he basically built the team that won the Cup in 2011. I guess the only good trades he made for the Oilers were aquiring Zack Kassian and Cam Talbot at a relatively low cost
