It's actually ridiculous the trade history that these two teams have with each other. I was half waiting to see Panarin pop back up again on the Rangers side, but then I remembered that he signed as a UFA haha.
I still am in awe of the uselessness of Bowman to squander Panarin and P.Kane’s best years. It’s akin to basically,,,,,,,, nothing. I guess it must have felt normal for a GM to trade a player that has had the best chemistry with PKane. Disgusting.
The funniest part to me is Columbus recognizing Carter was needed for a cup run with Nash, but then a year later Carter and Nash face off in the cup final.
@@thekillers1stfan those first 10 years are dark DARK years for the 5th line. People can say what they want about Torts but he really turned this team around.
@@thekillers1stfan somewhat.. I think it was 2012 or 2013, one of those years we made playoffs under, I *believe* under Ken, then the next season we laid a goose egg in the first 10 games. Torts' stingy defensive mentality has consistently gotten them into postseason play all but one year since he's joined the team. That's a great turnaround from only getting there twice (and being swept..) if you ask me.
Looking back at this, Pavel Buchnevich, Ryan Strome, Ryan Lindgren, K’Andre Miller, Mika Zibanejad, Morgan Barron, Brendan Smith, and (indirectly) Artemi Panarin were all a part of this trade tree, and were all very vital to the Rangers this past season.
As a Ranger fan I was Happy as Hell when we got him, happier to see him go and damn glad to see what we got and continue to get...Could be the best of the trade trees...
it was a shame that nash turned out the way he did. we traded for him because we were 100% sure we were gonna win the cup during that time but we came short twice and those 2 seasons we came close were the only superstar seasons nash had with us. after that he became an injury prone and was just complete dogsh*t. if he wasn’t getting hurt all the time we could of came close again in 2016 and 2017.
@@graz9372 Dogsh*t is a little rough. He had concussion issues and was aging. Happens to them all. Boston gave up a lot to get him as depth scoring for a cup run that was great for the Rangers.
The signing of “thank you” at the end of the video is neither unnoticed nor unappreciated. It brings me back to watching Flyers games with my late brother who was hard of hearing and me signing the play-by-play. So thanks for the smile. (ETA: I know we could have put subtitles on, but it was something my dad did until he kind of lost interest in the sport, and it was great practice for me when I was younger)
And he wasn’t on the Jackets at the time so Steve’s whole “the Blue Jackets goal horn is a cannon” thing doesn’t really work. I agree though that it was one of the dumbest controversies ever in sports. In the words of Ilya Bryzgalov “it’s only game, why you heff to be mad?”
As a Columbus fan, I enjoyed this trip down memory lane. One note about McQuaid: it wasn't that he wasn't a fit. He took a hit to the head a few games into his time here and it ended up ending his career. Fun trade-related fact about McQuaid: he was drafted by the Blue Jackets in 2005 then later traded to Boston for a pick that Columbus would later flip to Dallas and which was used by the Stars to select Jamie Benn.
I actually got viscerally angry about Andrew Shaw all over again watching that. No, Steve, it’s not that Adam McQuaid was an awkward fit, it’s that Andrew Shaw ended his career in the 3rd period of a random March game and he was unavailable for the playoffs which is why we had to play Scott Harrington against Boston. Gaaahhhh!!!!
2 years later and 2 of those pieces are St. Louis Blues. Saad and Buchnevich are ballers. Oh I almost forgot, the Rangers later traded Buchnevich to St. Louis for Sammy Blais and a 2022 2nd round pick. The St. Louis Blues' second-round pick went to the Winnipeg Jets as the result of a trade on March 21, 2022, that sent Andrew Copp and a sixth-round pick in 2023 to New York in exchange for Morgan Barron, a conditional first-round pick in 2022, a fifth-round pick in 2023 and this pick (being conditional at the time of the trade). Then the Rangers trade Blais, Hunter Skinner, and a conditional first-round pick in 2023, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024 for Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola(you’re welcome).
I was in the building when Bread's empty netter sealed the sweet over Tampa. I know people outside of Columbus wonder what the hell Jarmo was thinking, swinging for all of those expiring contracts. That moment right there is part of what he was thinking. The roof nearly blew off Nationwide Arena the second that goal went in and I've never heard the crowd be nearly as loud as the Cannon before. I get super emotional to this day thinking about that sweep, even though the Jackets lost to Boston in the next round. That doesn't even matter. Because FINALLY winning that playoff series and taking down the Goliath Lightning in the process was worth every trade and penny.
Started watching for a player I liked in Rick Nash but was quickly reminded of a forgotten goalie I loved in Steve Mason. The 2nd best Kitchener Ranger goalie of my lifetime next to John Gibson of course
As a Rangers fan this was a nice watch (aside from the goal from he who shall not be named and the jab at Hank). Loved Nash as a Ranger, even when he wasn’t scoring he was still a very important part of the team with surprising solid two way play. Really like Lindgren’s grit, hope he didn’t just have a one off year. He wasn’t even on our radar when acquired but after coming up from the AHL was the only good left handed defenseman (still is). Feel like you underrated Buch, he’s a part of the team but a very important one. He’s an excellent play driver finally hitting his stride. Feel like that happens a lot though, very under appreciated player.
Is it bad that everytime dubinsky’s line came on the ice for the jackets I referred to the entire line as the real mans man line and I played Steven regals theme song for the entire shift
@@seanyoung3865 Not really, Panarin won more playoff rounds with CBJ than the Hawks. Losing him sucked but he did great things for Columbus while he was here.
Would be super interesting to see all the 1st round picks the Penguins traded away in the last decade! and see who was drafted and how well the guys did who the penguins obtained
Rick Nash was heavily criticized in New York by fans due to his lack of scoring early on . But He backchecked every shift was always on the penalty kill that year. He had other teammates picking up the scoring too while the opposition was focused on him. His role changed and was an essential piece for the team making it to the final. He was a great ranger.
Great video man...loved it! I just wanted to point out the inaccuracy of the Anismov celly... It was for the NYR not against, which would make the Columbus goal horn obsolete in this situation... Besides that, awesome video man! 👍
I know it’s not part of a trade but an ending note of where Breadman signed woulda been just the right amount of salt in the wound for this Ranger fan.
