Man as a training and curriculum designer having worked with all of the alphabet soup agencies, I love what you’re doing!
I’m actually considering going to the academy at age 53 from an armed security rent a cop position.
I’d love to work with you

Rent a cop here, good work doing armed security for local companies and local agencies that need "Security" but not a cop... and they won't pay 40-50$ for you to sit there as a cop, but they're willing to pay 25-30$ to have armed security with those certifications, training, ability and general good moral standing.

5:48 I really like the idea of making the trainee wait for airtime, just like in the real world!

I teach my students to also wear training plates when in a scenario environment. Just keep them plates and inserts good for when you really need them.

Good idea having all the blue training aids in a bag. Love the classic Motorola MT1000, absolutely bomb proof PR.

Are those two radios exclusively used only for training? If so, you could go to your local two radio service provider and have them reprogram the radios so that your main channel is receive only and you cannot transmit on main channel, but have the second channel programmed as normal. Then you could have the radio set to scan while they’re using the training radios and they will pick up traffic on channel one and if they ever key the press to talk button while scanning channel 1 they won’t be able to transmit. Of course you would need to color those radios blue And make it be known they could never transmit and cannot be relied upon for real life emergencies.

That seems like a whole bunch of work to do to make a radio that is sitting on a table less useful.

@@freefieldtraining If those radios are still being used for everyday use then yeah it would be a waste of time to modify them. But if they're out of rotation and used solely for just training I think it would be a very useful modification. That table can't come with you at further distances. You're limited to a smaller area with just sitting radio on a table. With modified radios you can extend the range of your reality based scenario environment. Use multiple different rooms or even two different buildings. The radio they'd be wearing will have main channel traffic coming through it but they won't be able to accidentally transmit and say something alarming or confusing on main channel. It would make it more realistic in hearing radio traffic come radio they're wearing vs a radio sitting on a table somewhere. They'd learn to adjust volume of radio as their environment changes.
The work for you will only consist of handing the radios over to radio programmer and then taking them back from them. For the programmer it's just hooking a cord to the radio and making the changes on their computer. Not really a "whole bunch of work."

@@primordialdefense5769 I see what you mean, but we are containing the scenarios to an area the instructors can be. If this were a larger ftx style training that might have value. Going to the radio man to get things changed is still more work than I want to do unless it adds value for the project.

Those rubber knives, although relatively harmless, would still take an eye out.
