- I have a lot of tarantulas that are to be rehoused and I thought, since I need to rehouse them, I will show you exactly how I go about rehousing my tarantulas. This is specifically how I rehouse terrestrial species of tarantulas, but this is just the first installment of the How To Rehouse Tarantulas series where I will be showing the methods I use for other types of tarantulas as well. So make sure you are subscribed so you don't miss those videos in the future!

This is the smoothiest rehouse I've seen. My Ts go left when I direct them to go right. They will go around the cup instead of inside of it. After several cuss words later and the finger given to me by my Ts they finally cooperate 🤣
My Pamphobeteus sp. machala is like that.
Rehouse story: I just moved and to prepare for the tarantula transfer, I sat a box aside with all of them in (the shelves had to be packed and I wasn't ready to pack the Ts until the moving day.
Moving day comes. I'm at the new house and my dad brings in a box from the passenger seat. I surprisingly say "Oh you got the tarantulas! Thanks!"
He gives a 😳 look and says he had no clue he drove 30 minutes with them right next to him. Haha
😆
I'm still working on being that calm during rehouses. The slings are fast but not nearly as intimidating lol. My OBT juvie did three laps around my tub before he slowed down enough to cup him lol. I was actually really proud of myself for not panicking. Loved this video
I rehoused my juvenile OBT earlier today. Very laid back, walked calmly into the catch cup then into the new enclosure. I love OBTs, as I’ve now got 3 of them. Their enclosures are set up as arboreal, and they all seem to be very calm. I’ve raised them from 1cm slings.
The worst thing about keeping TS is moving them you make it look easy
Just rehoused my Pterinochulus murinus (usambara) last week, was easy. I set out my catch cups and brushes, grabbed my tongs and grabbed the heavy webbing she had done to start finding where she was and she bolted and took a flying leap into the new enclosure, close the lid and done lol
Yep it's fun Re-housing, evening feeding can be fun. I fed my curly hair today , and it jumped that much, it ended up on my knee ( I deal with all my tarantulas on the floor) I don't know who was more shocked, myself, or the tarantula. I have these huge gloves that I use, like safety ones. I just guided the tarantula back into its enclosure. I think it was in shock, cause it went straight into its burrow, when usually it's out on top. Ah well it's why we love our creatures 😸
I’m a newbie in the hobby myself with my first T being a chill/sassy juvie Brazilian White Knee and I’m in the process of making a catch cup by recycling a “Simply” bottle.
I have yet to rehouse her and luckily I have plenty of time to prepare with the help of your channel! Thank you for sharing this video!
You have an amazing voice! I'm more of a snake lady, but my 8 year old son has collected 5 or 6 tarantulas, so your channel is my go-to to help him out. Thank you!
I just got my last 4 tarantulas from micro wilderness. They were fast and shipped very well with a heating pack for the cold weather! Very good prices as well that compete with the very best tarantula sellers. I got an OBT, Rear horned baboon, salmon pink bird eater, and a golden blue legged baboon. All slings. I’m very pleased with them!! I suggest ordering more than one or two since the shipping for confirmed live is 60 bucks lol
At first it was most stressful part of hobby, but now I enjoy seeing my Ts growing and thriving being ready to move to bigger home
Quickly got addicted to the hobby ur videos help a lot brother keep up the good work 💪
While I don’t have tarantulas I love watching videos on them. I live in a small apartment that spays for pest insects. ( roaches, ants) so I know that would not be good for them. I know UA-cam suggested spider/T videos after I looked up information on recluse spiders . The rare times that I see a spider in my apt, I catch and release them back outside. The pesticides used to kill the roaches and ants probably would kill them so I give them a better chance at living when I place them outside. I have a greater respect for them by watching videos like these.
I am thinking about putting my gbb into a juvenile enclosure. This is super good info!
Your words are very inspiring especially when you said if they bolt we will be fine as long as we stay cool and calm. I always get nervous when they bolt, I am going to remember just stay focused.
I love your channel. It’s very informative. It would be awesome if you could do a video on how to keep the correct humidity for different species at every size while keeping good ventilation so mold won’t grow. If you have one on this subject I would love to check it out. I’ve had a number of tarantulas die and every person I talk to says it’s because of mold or humidity.
well, I am new to this hobby, and.. I got second tarantula, a Tliltocatl albopilosus. I believed these were more well mannered but, as soon as i started luring her into her new enclosure, she went underneath the catch cup and bolted under the refrigerator. It was terrifying, after a good 30 minutes of my brother screaming we got her back. Luckily I put her in a decent sized enclosure so she will be fine for the next few molts.
One thing I do, that seems to help me: I only light up the enclosure I am taking them out of, and try my best to leave the new home darker. This plays into a T's natural photosensitivity, and encourages them to get away from the light, into a more shaded space. I rehoused a subadult S. calceatum this way from a deli cup, with no bolting, and very little threat display. I know that is impractical for video purposes, and photographs, but it's something to keep in mind.
Awesome video bro! Couldn’t have been better timing. I’m expecting my first old world today that should have been here by 12 but got held up in transit unfortunately. It’s a female 3” MONOCENTROPUS BALFOURI. Just what I need right a bolty T delivered late maybe even a day late that I have to rehouse. This video made me feel better but I still wish Richard could be by my side lol. But anyway thanks for everything you do bro. You never know how a video can help someone and look it genuinely will help me today or tomorrow when I rehouse my first old world, already being nervous. Much love and peace ✌🏽
How did it go?
Sweet! It’s impressive how fast they can move sometimes. I always say, it’s good to have a plan ahead of time with rehousing a T instead of just winging it. Great info Richard!
Just rehoused my T. Stirmi last week. Woke up today and boom she molted. Fun stuff
Great video Richard!!😍💓
Great video 👏
Had to upgrade my curly hair and I just got my coffin shaped enclosure by Tarantula Cribs! So excited to set it up!
🎉🎉 great job, and tysvm for the tips ❤
Happily most of mine have gone very smoothly
Great video dude. Thank you
Love rehousing videos, thanks for sharing.
Dude that was a awesome video, great camera work, an very informative couldn’t ask for better plz keep it going
This was great mate. I like to see rehousing vids… nicely done.
Brilliant video Richard, i really enjoyed that one.
Great stuff as always rich, top stuff 👍🏽🇺🇸🏴
Thanks for the helpful video Richard! Can't wait to see if you do an "Old world Arboreal" edition ;)
Really enjoy your content. I love learning about tarantula and other inverts. Thanks for your hard work.
Nice video! Love the calm tone. Arboreals next! I love the streamline look and style of the Tarantula Cribs. I only wish I could afford them for my collection. 💗
Awesomeness!🕷🕸🦂🐍
Always a treat ensuring the rest of us are no better or worse off on rehousing day... all the best chap 😉
Awesome video Richard. I just rehoused my Caribena versicolor. She ventured on my arm for a bit, and took a nice leap into her new Xtera enclosure. I love her species so much. Blessings from Colorado 🤙
Love your videos man been watching for about a year or two now and finally decide to shot my shot and get a few t’s of my own I’m fairly new to this whole hobby but I really appreciate all your videos my t ran away today during rehousing can’t lie I was kinda scared but we secured it and she is in her new home safe and sound
You posted this with perfect timing lol ! I’ve been waiting to move nova to a bigger enclosure and since she’s been so spicy with me lately I wanted to think of some other tactics just in case . And this was a great reminder to grab the cardboard for the catch cup lol . And to remind myself to keep a calm mind while doing it . Even tho internally I’m gonna be praying she cooperates lol . Thanks for the vid, man ❤
Hello, like the little pop up, that's new when leaving a comment. Don't think I would be anywhere near as calm as you Richard, thank you for this video showing us amateurs how it should be done 🤣 kind regards, Joanne 🐺
Awesome video
Thanks Rick, I just rehoused my GBB using your methods 👊🏿
Good information for a new guy like me, thanks 👍
Awesome spiders all good for you love enclosures great video
Excellent video!! I have a few rehousings coming up in my near future. My daughter and I both have Panama Blond slings and we both noticed that you have never done a video on them. We are wondering if this is something you could do?
Thanks Richard.
Another wonderful video 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you
Keep in mind to be close to a surface, I rehoused my boy after having him for 2 days (he’s my first one). I was standing and he ended up sprinting toward my hand and I freaked out and threw his container with him in it 😬. He’s fine now and we’re both traumatized.
As always I've learned more from you watching this video. I need to rehouse my T in a few weeks. She just came out to play from molting 2 weeks ago and is just now ready to eat/drink. What is the oldest/longest you have had with your T's? I know some females will live close to 30 years. Thank you for another T Tuesday Richard!
I have a T vagans and a O. Sp quezon blue to rehouse today. I know how to do it, but I always refer back to this video
ok
I see the queen of rehousing is here 👑🕷
Hey what a coincidence! I just finished rehousing my devamatha sling. Was a nice and calm move! A care and husbandry video for the devamatha would be real nifty by the way. (Hint-Hint)
Brilliant....
I needed to see this. I just rehoused my T vagan and I now see what I did wrong. Thx bro
Thank you for the video, Richard. However, I have owned three tarantulas in the last year: bumba horrida, GBB and Xenesthis sp. Light. What I can say is that my GBB is going to teleport whenever I move the enclosure, let alone opening it. It will bolt to God and back before I can even realise what's happening. The other two are quite chill (even the X, taking in consideration those long legs)
I just did my first rehouse this weekend for my GBB, I went back to one of your older videos on GBB as a species to see if I missed the part where "they're fast as fuck" was mentioned.
I'm a complete novice when it comes to spiders however I got 15 tarantula spiderlings August last year and to everyone's surprise they all are alive lol..
Easiest pet to see to and only downside for me is having to be a God for fruit flies, crickets, meal worms+beetles
My curly hair digs like crazy. Not sure how I’m going to rehouse w/o digging her out.
I actually rehoused my Nicaraguan curly hair today and it went amazing! He/she not sure yet due to it being a spiderling still, however it went into the new enclosure calmly and didnt kick any hairs at me! We will see how its doing after i get off work tonight
Thank you this video really helped, I brought a fireleg today and she is exhibiting that behaviour, I left a locust in there but I’ll take it out and leave her alone 👍🏻
It's funny. I always kind of over-prepare, assuming that the worst might happen (and im sure would if I DIDN'T prepare). And then the rehouse almost always goes very smoothly. I just tonight moved a small Poky and an H Mac. I used the bag method. But neither one of them got bitey or particularly flighty. Went right where I wanted them to once I convinced them to come out of their initial containers.
I got my m balfouri into an enclosure the same way you did with the fort hall baboon. I wasn’t nearly as calm though😂
I always overthink when rehousing my desert blonde I get worked up thinking she'll jump on my face and rip my eyes out but she just wanders on into her new home without a worry haha
Can you do Nhandu tripeppi care and husbandry? Pls🥺
Do you have any videos on the Bahia Scarlet care? Do you have any tips or advice handling it?
That first T looks so awesome! Does that happen to be the Darth maul T?
Do you have videos on the Bahia Scarlet?
Richard, I got my N. incei about 3 weeks ago. I read that it is recommended to provide them with about 4 inches of substrate, but that seemed a little exaggerated to me, so I put in about half that (the entire bag that came with my enclosure). Now, I see that T keepers do put in so much substrate. Van Horne (my T) seems to be thriving just hiding along one wall of the enclosure behind the plant that I have in there, but I wonder whether or not I should increase the substrate (of which I have a bag, but it is something different from that which came with the enclosure to begin with), and how substrate change would affect Van Horne. I appreciate your thoughts. So far, I have been paying attention to your videos and have seen great success.
Hey guys! some of my relatives wanted to give me a Tapinauchenius violaceus sling but I have never heard of the species before so I did some research, and ontop of that I would lile to ask for the opiniond from you guys, like care and husbandry, temps, etc
Omg absolutely gorgeous species!! The t albopilosum I recently got, realized it has no fangs, so currently going through that. 😞 loved watching the rehousings! You have the best cinematography, makes everything look even more beautiful than it is
damn rip
@@maximilianzaff2517 I’m doing everything I can. Trying to get it through a molt with a miracle
@@marjorieinverts how does that happen?I’m new to the hobby and didn’t realize something like that could occur. Sorry to hear btw
@@ANTHONYLIVETV my guess is because of its age, it lost them in its last molt. The place I got it from said it was wild caught. Just KILLS me that between the distributor and the place I got it, NO ONE bothered to realize what was going on, and here I’m technically a newbie and it took me one day to realize what was happening
@@ANTHONYLIVETV and thank you! Sorry I was distracted when replying. The left one is a stump and the right one is completely gone. I’m thinking it couldn’t have made it to the size it is if it was reoccurring so that’s why I’m guessing it lost them in last molt or they were damaged by tong feeding or something . But yeah, I’m trying to feed it every day with super worms that I’m pre killing and cutting up in a bunch of
Spots where the juices can kind of easily come out and it can get some in its mouth parts. It has a great feeding response and tries so hard to kill but you can see how frustrating it is for the poor thing because it can’t bite. Every time I feed it I cry. I went ahead and contacted our local exotic vet just in case because if it keeps losing weight and doesn’t look like it’s going to molt I’ll probably have it put down, I refuse to let any animal suffer, but again, I’m gonna try all I can first. One week and I’m already super attached 😭
Hay I'm a really big fan if your channel and I own a Arizona blonde tarantula but I struggle with the the Latin/ scientific names I think it would be grate if u and other UA-cam could make a vidow on how to rember or learn the scientific names of tarantula species or really any tips on how to tell what genus different species come from let me know if u be interested in doing a vidow like that feel like it could help a lot of new collectors out
I’m soooo nervous to rehouse my curly hair. I’ve checked her temperament before to see if she wants to be held and usually it’s a defensive pose. But I love her so much lol she’s so cute! But seeing this makes me realize it’s not like she’s going to bolt out and climb up and bite me in the face😂🤣.
Any scorpion rehousing vids?
Ok dude i need help ur lugardi can u do a video on this particular species theirs barely anything and mines not taking too well to her environment
If a video is no good some husbandry advice would be great from temp to feeding to substrate etc etc
I was just curious as to what you do with the old substrate from the old enclosures. Do you reuse it or get rid of it? If you do reuse it, do you have a way of cleaning it before reuse?
How do you choose the size of the water dish as they scale up? My slings are currently getting water drops on the wall of their cube, but I feel like my GBB might need one of those sponges or a tiny cup? She's about 1-1.5" across now.
Have you ever had a tarantula escape and not be able to find them? I just upgrade my green bottle blue enclosure and he is super skittish so it was very stressful to move to his new enclosure.
Where do you get those enclosures ?
Ptasznik Złotokanowy - because this is what the Polish name of this species sounds like, it is a great proposition for beginner breeders.
At the P. Lugardi I've got a question: Can u tell a difference bw the Lugardi and the P. Murinus Gold/Yellow Color Form?
hi like 30 minites ago i found a jumping spider on my table and mad a enclosure for her i don't like to wild catch animals but she was just so cute
I'm getting a new enclosure for my curly hair Ruckus, it's supposed to arrive any minute. I've been soooo nervous about moving my baby into a new enclosure because I don't wanna cause any stress or anxiety. It will be my first time re housing, as well as his first time re housing. Although this video really helped curve some of anxieties, I'm still really worried about how my T will react.
Btw I have the Curly hair and Bahia Scarlet coming tm!
I like straws because I can use them to lightly blow a small amount of air at the tarantula to get them to move in the direction I need. Just enough to persuade it to go where it need it to. Just make sure you don't drool and spit at your T LOL!
Edit: I can't stress enough when I say a light amount. Like a small baby breath. Super gentle. And that's not every time, just when a little extra convincing is needed.
i already have a 10 gallon tank. Is it ok to put a young tarantula in a bigger tank?
Do a rehousing on Aboreal tarantulas !
Just out of curiosity, how large is your xenesthis intermedia at the beginning of the video?
OBT's are fine, well mine are. It's my C Huahini's that give me trouble.
Just curious, when do you know they need to be rehoused, is it shortly after they molt?
I'm about to rehouse my Curly Hair in the next few weeks. She seems quite restless and is walking all over the enclosure and I think I should have done it before the last molt.
I'm wondering should I move her A.S.A.P. to new enclosure or shuold I give my springtails some time to clean the place up for the princess?
🖤
How long after rehousing do you try to feed them? Or do you just stick to the regular schedule and don't do anything extraordinary?
Hi!! What lamp do you use to light up your tarantulas enclosure? I have a tarantula crib for my grammostola pulchra and wanted to provide her some light (of course with no heat
I discuss the lights I use in depth in this video: ua-cam.com/video/RO5iY7y53fo/v-deo.html
Is there anywhere to get a good label maker in the UK?
Damn I love those enclosures just feel as though they’re too expensive
They're worth every penny.
Hi Mr. Richard. Can you make a video of the mexican red knee or the hamorii? Because many of us here in Philippines has that tarantula
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/hS53x0Vc_qc/v-deo.html

Rehousing is the opportunity I get to handle my spiders. As I dont believe in disturbing them. I never put it off, In fact I have remind myself. no, she doesnt need a rehouse leave her alone.
Hey peeps, what substrate is recommended for a super burrowing species? Dealing with my first major burrower (juvie L.P.).. I knew they burrowed before adulthood but I wasn't expecting this much excavation haha. I've always used just coir, but I'm realizing that if she digs any further it's for sure going to collapse. Plus she just molted and grew like twice the size, so needs a new home anyway.
