I think the most amazing thing about Martina’s missing finger is that almost no one noticed until she made the first prototype video. Given how much you watch her working with her hands on the channel that just blew everyone’s mind.
When I saw the video of the project where she made the prosthetic, I actually went back and watched old videos and was shocked that I had never noticed before lol
It's like James Doohan (original Scotty in Trek). I watched that guy through 3 seasons and 7 movies and never realized that he lost his middle finger - during the D-Day invasion, no less!
Not a collab I expected, but a welcome one! Martina and Hansi are so fun, I bet just about everyone in this community would love their channel if they haven't seen it before
It was such a surprise when I saw the thumbnail but I immediately knew they would be great together and they were. I’d love to see them actually build something together, maybe even the tentacle utility finger he mentioned haha

I know it's obvious that Adam watches other makers but to actually see that he watches and enjoys the channels of younger people that probably grew up watching him is a wonderful loop.
I'd watched a ton of Nerdforge stuff, and never noticed the missing finger until she did a video focusing on it. Her personality is so magnetic, you just get caught up in the makes.
I watched for quite a while before I noticed, and had a mental crisis at how I never noticed. Had to look back at older videos to confirm that she was missing it the whole time and I just somehow didn't realize. EDIT: it wasn't the prosthetic video, btw, I just randomly noticed in one of their vids.
Heh, ya, when that video came out, I had to go back to the first video of theirs that I saw. It was the large wizard tower/castle where Martina was gluing on like a thousand bricks, and sure enough. No pinky. I could not believe I hadn't noticed it was missing in all that time.
Well, at first, she took active measures during filming and editing to keep it out of frame. The screen presence and crafting skill also definitely help! You're not "wrong" I'm just saying she took active (and successful) steps to keep it from getting noticed.
I didn't know Martina and Hansi before this video and I have to say this was a true delight to watch. What a heart warming conversation about Martina overcoming her injury in a very very inspiring way. Outstanding ❤!

I'm a left arm amputee from a motorcycle accident. My arm is paralyzed from a brachial plexus injury so I'm not able to functionally wear prosthetics without discomfort. Adam asked what would the amputee community think of this. Well me personally, I think this is incredibly cool. Especially how fluid it all is and how "easy" it is to make. Very cool video

The absolute look of "Why didn't I think of that?" when you asked about putting a fingernail on it was hilarious. She has great energy when talking about it now, but I can only imagine how hard it was to get to this point. She did say it took 5 years, so it must have been quite the internal struggle. Glad she was able to overcome that struggle and shine through.
Yeah I remember a ton of videos after it happened where she would keep her injured hand out of sight. So much so that people in the comments were starting to notice and making comments about it. I think it took a couple years for her to make a video about what had happened to it (if I remember correctly).
@@Zeitgeist6 I watched tons of Nerdforge videos but I think they were all after the accident and Martina was no longer hiding her hand, and I never noticed a thing! Amazing.

I've been following Martina and Hansi for at least a year, they are a lot of fun. Your interview asked all of the questions that I wanted to ask. The tenacle comment broke me up. THANK YOU ADAM!
I want to talk about another element of this, which is the fact that the NF video where they make the finger is their top watched video, over 7 million views. I think it’s so awesome how the world responded to it, and that she was rewarded for sharing embracing a vulnerable build and creating something beautiful and true.

I like how Adam instantly understood pitfalls of the function of the hand and started throwing out ideas of improvements. As lifelong user of knee-ancle-foot braces I really love that they went in to looks. So often the talks stop at function. For the plastics they used for my braces when I was young, they have at times provided patterns that you could add. I remember a denim pattern. But often it stops at color. Now my braces largely consists of carbon fibre, which has a cool pattern in itself.
I love the energy of this video. How thrilled Adam is with the idea of the creative process and the ideation on the designs. I also love the "did you think to add a nail to it?" reactions of "Oh, Wow! A new Idea!" Creatives just synergising over designs is so fun to watch.
This is amazing. Love Martina. I actually showed her video creating her own prosthetic pinky to my mother (with a prosthetic leg from the knee down). Helped her become more comfortable with wearing prosthetics that aren’t realistic looking. This is a beautiful meeting of creative minds.
Example: when she got her first prosthetic she was insistent that it must look identical to the original leg. Didn’t want anyone to notice it. I have a mind like Martina and said she should get creative with us and put a rechargeable battery pack in the calf with USB ports so she/we could charge our devices while hanging out with her. Bonus points if she could make the calf double as Wifi hotspot. She wasn’t ready for that with her first leg. 5 years later she couldn’t care less about it not looking real due to the younger generation leaning into a cybernetic limb aesthetic. So thank you Martina, you’re making others with prosthetics become more comfortable and less self conscious.
Also Nerdforge couldn’t have found a better person to collaborate with. Seeing the excitement on everyone’s face as they thought of new ideas for the next iterations…. Priceless. Adam’s wealth of experience on successful techniques and pitfalls he found throughout his own career is an incredible resource for them to have. He can save them hours/weeks of trial and error by sharing his wealth of knowledge with them. This is what the internet should be for. Beautiful minds coming together empathetically to brainstorm on a project that positively impacts the lives of many people they will never even meet.
Google "Billy Monger". He lost both his legs in a motor racing accident. He regularly participates in the UK Channel 4 Formula 1 coverage wearing shorts. And kind of on-topic; there's at least one amputee I've seen with a "How To Train Your Dragon" Hiccup outfit. He even has a custom leg prosthetic.
@@No1sonuk Yeah, I've seen videos, he is also inspiring. But Martina has a special place in my heart because I am also an artist. Love seeing her create artwork and then make her own prosthetic finger after losing the finger while crafting. Gives a whole new meaning to someone putting their blood, sweat, and tears into their art. Billy is inspirational as well of course, I feel like his story resonates more for sports and fitness fans.
Brings back memories - I lost a finger in a tablesaw accident (one small drop of hardened glue on the table) which was successfully reattached (by me and the intern in the ER). I wore a single black compression glove during the entire healing process (swelling was a real problem back then - leaches had not been rediscovered yet). I was a ring announcer and the black glove became my trademark!
She could add a thermister to the finger tip and add a little display to the glove that shows the temp at the finger tip. This way she could check the temp of hot coffee, for example.
The fact I grew up watching Adam in mythbusters and am now an adult making my own props and mechanics is so cool to me. Thank you Adam for being my inspiration to create
Funny thing is that Adam also recently collab’d with Corridor Crew, who also built prosthetic pinkies, including one with that’s lighter and I think a NERF one
This collab was incredible! Had a huge smile on my face the whole time. I would love to see Adam and Martina do a build together, they could really create something huge and spectacular.
Love Martina and Hansi and the whole Nerd Forged team, it's so fantastic to see them collab with Adam, I grew up watching Mythbusters! Thank you all for the cool video 😊 Hope to see another collab in the future!
I remember commenting over on Martina's channel (last year IIRC) that honestly, I'd been so busy watching her do amazing things that I never even noticed she was missing a pinky.
My daughter introduced me to Nerdforge. I've watched several episodes since and just a few days ago subscribed. Ironically, here they are on Tested. Two favorites in one...good stuff!
This just screams collab to me. Adam, jump in there and design with them! I'm a subscriber of nerdforge and they have some incredible ideas. Teaming up with you to further design martinas finger would be amazing. Martina and hansi just give the vibe of being the sweetest people ever!
WOW I've been following Nerdforge since the pandemic because I adored the art they were creating. I had no idea Martina sliced her finger off, and recreated a working totally cool model. Well done!
Adam - "You guys are so much fun to talk about this!" IKR! 😃😆 The way her face lights up at the thought of a tentacle was actually hilarious. My suggestion for future utilitarian designs - a refillable eraser tip for drawing and sketching. Or, a telescoping magnetic tip for retrieving lost screws. Although, that one could be problematic.🤔 But, then, there's always the obvious... a laser pointer. Because, cats.😼 ...and also pointing at things from a distance.
Martina: thank you for sharing with us all, and Adam thank you for being a gracious host and helping the audience to relate by humanizing and explaining the emotional aspects. Awesome video, so many of us tinkerers and makers appreciate everything here!!
I would love to see Adam at their workshop, and outstanding work On Martina being so open to discussing this in depth like this. Absolutely love NerdForge and this is just a great mix of forces. I'd love to hear them swap stories for hours. Great stuff!
I love seeing this tech ability outside the SFX world. Most people don't know that makers of prosthetic's are SFX Artist. This course is offered at Tom Savini's School.
it can't have been easy to get to the point of making that video she made about her lost finger, but when i saw the video i was very happy for her, but especially happy that she took an aesthetic point of view, she is an artist and an engineer, and i think that is why we watch her videos.
That episode of her cyber pinkie was one of the first ones I watched of NerdForge, & it made me think of how smart (& funny) Martina is (& I had to watch more episodes!). She’s awesome!
I absolutely loved watching Martina's and Hansi's video on the making of the finger from scratch. It was so inspiring to see them tackling the problems and finding workarounds and solutions during the filming. And of course I have been a fan of Nerdforge for a long time and love watching the amazing builds in their videos.
One of my favourite makers that I’ve fallowing for years, almost from the beginning. They have the ability to make big problems or projects down to earth and simple.
I love Martina and Hansi and this was such a cool collab that i didn't expect. They're not the first ones to design these over the top fingers, even using the same base project. Corridor's Wren also built several "utility" fingers for his friend Jan, including a lighter and nerf dart. Just more fun stuff on this kind of project to check out!
A guy I work with is missing all but his index and thumb on his right hand, surprised me how much dexterity and control he had gained and adapted from loosing them and was actually a better worker than most on site, has a hell of a handshake on him too
That is to this day my favorite Nerd Forge video. I lost my middle finger and thumb on a table saw right before the video was released. Luckily, they were able to reattach my digits, but I'm kind of jealous of the cyberpunk prosthetic.
Don't. I lost half a finger to ring avulsion, and made my own prosthetics based on this design. I'll be honest, it's a prop and an interesting gimmick. It's not very functional, not even 40% of your natural bio-mechanical finger. It's still a frail mechanism no matter how hard you reinforce it, grip is weak, the knuckles lining up is a real problem that isn't really solvable due to the design, the hassle of wearing a wristband or a glove is annoying and not very practical. In fact, it's so bad I don't even bother anymore and just use it without the fishing line. I'd have taken an injured, immobile reattached finger had it taken over this 100 times out of 10. Things it does help / work with: It does look pretty cool and it helps me to stay mentally at peace over the fact I have a gap in my hand, you can type with it (but it's no big deal without either, at least a ring finger), you can press switches and it helps with certain gripping motions and levering things that aren't heavy.
cool to see them on here. Been following them for years! Ever since they were a little channel! Always great content. Both are very creative individuals and they make a great couple/team!

I love how excited adam is to talk about what Martina and Hansi made! Also, the light is soo cool!
The fact I grew up watching Adam in mythbusters and am now an adult making my own props and mechanics is so cool to me. Thank you Adam for being my inspiration to create
Whaaaat!!!? This is soo exciting! Two of my favorite channels colliding!
Adam coming up on the fly with such cool & crazy ideas for Martina’s finger could have is making me wish they would do a collab build making one!
Us too!
Adam Savage with Martina and Hansi, two channels I watch regularly on the same video, Nerd heaven
Nerdforged in Heaven, even :)
Since they traveled so far I'm hoping for a series of video's with Nerdforge. Great collab.
Martina, Hansi, and Adam give off similar energy that is so much fun to watch!
I remember commenting over on Martina's channel (last year IIRC) that honestly, I'd been so busy watching her do amazing things that I never even noticed she was missing a pinky.
Adam is like a golden retriever, and I love his excitement when he has great guests/visitors/friends.
My daughter introduced me to Nerdforge. I've watched several episodes since and just a few days ago subscribed. Ironically, here they are on Tested. Two favorites in one...good stuff!
It warms my heart to see these three having fun together.
Well done!
Nerdforge is one of the best youtube channels. They are entertaining as hell and creative. Great people
Adam - "You guys are so much fun to talk about this!"
IKR! 😃😆 The way her face lights up at the thought of a tentacle was actually hilarious.
My suggestion for future utilitarian designs - a refillable eraser tip for drawing and sketching. Or, a telescoping magnetic tip for retrieving lost screws. Although, that one could be problematic.🤔
But, then, there's always the obvious... a laser pointer. Because, cats.😼 ...and also pointing at things from a distance.
I immediately went for laser pointer too. 😂
Martina: thank you for sharing with us all, and Adam thank you for being a gracious host and helping the audience to relate by humanizing and explaining the emotional aspects.
Awesome video, so many of us tinkerers and makers appreciate everything here!!
Adam I love seeing your excitement around the project. Love the enthusiasm
What! What a totally unexpected collab by two of my most watched channels! Such a pleasant surprise! This is awesome.
Two of my favorite UA-camrs together - such a feast! Thank you!
I would love to see Adam at their workshop, and outstanding work On Martina being so open to discussing this in depth like this. Absolutely love NerdForge and this is just a great mix of forces. I'd love to hear them swap stories for hours. Great stuff!
There is something profoundly satisfying when two of your favorite channels do a collaboration.
The crossover I didn't know I needed. Thank you for this!
Been watching nerdforge for years. I love them so much!
the two most energetic engineers I've ever seen on screen, just babbling at each other in Engineer's Cant 😂🤣
i love this video 🫶🥰
That episode of her cyber pinkie was one of the first ones I watched of NerdForge, & it made me think of how smart (& funny) Martina is (& I had to watch more episodes!). She’s awesome!
Thanks!
These videos are the true best part of Open Sauce
As it should be!
I absolutely loved watching Martina's and Hansi's video on the making of the finger from scratch. It was so inspiring to see them tackling the problems and finding workarounds and solutions during the filming. And of course I have been a fan of Nerdforge for a long time and love watching the amazing builds in their videos.
Adam's got Martina considering becoming Inspector Gadget in 15 minutes.
do da do da doot go go gadget finger! lol funniest comment i've seen yet haha
One of my favourite makers that I’ve fallowing for years, almost from the beginning. They have the ability to make big problems or projects down to earth and simple.
A - freaking - Mazing! My ABSOLUTELY 2 favorite channels collaborating 😊😊😊
AHHHH THE CROSSOVER I NEEDED OMG!!!
I love the brainstorming near the end! I see Brain and Penny trying to create more gadgets for Inspector Gadget. Loooove love love it!
That was one of the coolest life hacks I have seen in a while! Thank you for sharing! 😍
Love these artists - they seem like such amazing people, too
was one of those who watched so many amazing videos and didn't notice Martina's missing pinkie. I love Nerdforge❤
This new Era of youtube collabs is amazing!
this couple is super talented, I adore them and their creations/art/projects
the both channels which inspired and motivated me again. thank you so much! all of you guys!
Well, you know what you have to do then :D
@@ColaBeGaming 🤣
You’re lucky you got your fingers back man
You can still make a cyberpunk glove Joe :-) make a vid and upload it!
YES YES YES.
We need more of this.
A collab, PLEASE!
Nerd heaven video⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️❤️❤️🤠
Thank you creative geniuses ✌🏼
Love Nerd Forge!! They're one of my favourites and make very cool projects.
Loved watching your process on building this. Go Go Gadget flashlight, Go Go gadget going out nail, Go Go gadget screwdriver, Go Go gadget microphone
I see a version where she can swap out pinkies with different accessories. All with a custome nail.
Just don't forget you've got the long probe attachement on and go to pick your nose...
Marina's one of the best. It's always a holiday for me when they upload a new video.
I LOVE it when the people that I follow and admire on here meet!
super cool to see all 3 of them together. smart minds. amazing
cool to see them on here. Been following them for years! Ever since they were a little channel! Always great content. Both are very creative individuals and they make a great couple/team!
These are people the country needs more of!!!!
Norwegians?
Nerdforge is so much fun! 👍👍‼️
