My wife and I just received our tarantulas today from Josh's Frogs. It was her Mother's day gift. She got two Avicularia avicularias and I got a Hapolopus sp. Colombia Large. Super cute little spiderlings. Greatly recommend Josh's Frogs.
Great video about this, Richard. I have seen so many people get scammed by tarantula dealers that just took their money. Glad i found a local reptile store that carries supplies plus tarantulas and more for when I need them. Got my first Avic from them and I love them.

This is amazing advice. Coming from the scorp hobby always ALWAYS ask for the scientific name at shops and expos. I have bought from petsmart because i am also a rescuer, but i also educate the employees so they dont catch hairs or hurt the ts they do get in. But i have an advantage in i have access to free parasite testing...
We’ve always been careful where we get out exotics. For our Ts, we love FearNotTarantuls, but there are lots of other great breeders out there as well.

Richard. You might want to look into your mic settings. It sounded like your voice was peaking out the mic. The low end of your voice. Due to the peaking of your voice some of my tarantulas came out to see what the vibration was lol ( looking at you Caribena versicolor and Tliltocatl albopilosus). As a fellow UA-camr once stated..... "If there is reptile in their name sate away." There are very few you can trust that take good care of tarantulas and know how to ship them. I can only think of two. Thanks for the video! You are one of the 5 people I use as tools for this hobby. I wish Tom Patterson had videos. He would make it 6.Sadly my 6th quit making videos. I did buy 5 slings from her and got a freebie after she quit :)
I bought a gooty sapphire and a cobalt blue spiderlings at a pet expo, $150 for both. They both matured into curlys. I got them from a booth that had mainly reptiles and only a few tarantulas and they "cut" me a deal if I bought 2. Live and learn, but I do love both of them and glad I got them.

Great video Richard! Scales and Tails is the store I go to for my tarantulas, feeders and gear needed to care for my tarantulas. I am hoping to go to my first exotics expo this summer.
We had a Scales n Tails that opened up here in Phoenix and they are my go-to now. Awesome store and awesome people.

I bought a B. emilia last year, on October 1rst. She was JUST away from being a nymph, so she was so tiny.😊
Recently, she molted July 24th. This is her 3. molting in my care.
I really hope, that she will end a pre-molt before October, so that she might be freshly molted for Halloween!
Tha would be awesome.
Last year, I showed her off, but neither kids NOR parents were THAT impressed!😂
So I hope for ONE more molt before November.
Tarantulas are fantastic creatures... the more, you get to learn about them, the more respect, you gain around the nearest folks around you. My Mom is now interested to hear about my spider, and SHE is usually a person, who DOESN'T okay animals, that aren't dogs, cats, etc..😊
me who got one from petco that labeled it as an assorted basic turantula as the tag but also had a sticker saying it was a curly hair
I use to buy my tarantulas and scorpions from either a local pet store or online from major dealers. Never had a problem.
I’m very lucky my town has mom & pop exotic pet stores. It is more expensive but you’re right it’s great to see the spiders XD

I bought my first three tarantulas from fear not, and loved them! I also went to my cities reptile expo two weeks ago, and found a place that had a ton of tarantulas and other reptiles that only took in rescues. I was planning on getting 2-4 from them when it’s hosted next month. Should I worry about them or are most rescue places ok with procurement and care?
For those of you in the UK I would highly recommend The Spider Shop and also Virginia Cheeseman!
I've been purchasing from Underground Reptiles without any problems as they called me to make sure my order arrived ok.

i use the spider shop in the UK. a Gooty in Republic of Ireland is 250 euro for a sling whereas the UK they are 30. so i get them shipped from UK to a relative in northern Ireland and then collect it same day. there's a big difference financially. even a brand name enclosure 30x30x30 is near 200euro in Ireland but the UK its 57.
What if my country doesn't have an exotic pet store? Go to the next? Lol...

I had a lady in a pet store telling me a fire leg was a red knee I tried to explain to her but she said no it’s a red knee 😂😂 I just left her to it not to mention it was like an inch in size and it was in an adult size enclosure, when I asked why she said the people need to see it🤔🤔

Hello! I've been watching your videos and this one caught my eye. So I have ordered some Ts online from a breeder in Germany, I live in Greece, who shipped them 5 days ago. I called the shipping company and they told me that it takes about 10 days for the parcel to arrive to my country and I'm wondering if they will make it alive.From your experience what do you think?
Typically in the US we only ship priority overnight. Even most imports from other companies ship and import overnight when possible. I've seen Petko from Dark Den order spiders from other European countries that took days or even a week to get delivered. A lot will depend on the packaging and the weather while they're in transit. If conditions are optimal I would guess they will be fine. I hope you ordered from has a Live Arrival Guarantee and will replace any slings that don't make the journey.

Hey Richard, we live in an extreme environment. Weather is pretty cold a lot. How would you keep any species in my situation? We would love to keep one, however we are concerned about the setup and care.
We live in a little cottage in far northeastern Washington state.
To put it, it is 39° today and it is summer!
Would you keep it on a heating pad or a lamp or nothing? It is my first pet tarantula.

WALMART GOT GOOD ONES!! If you live in Puerto Rico then youll know why LMFAO!! IF YOU DONT THEN SO YOU KNOW TARANTULAS ARE EVERYWHERE IN PR!!! If you wanna find them just look for dirt and if you see a hole in the ground then theres a 99.999999% that ones in there sleeping. The Walmart part is cuz I have seen MORE then 50 times I seen a tarantula walking inside walmart and tons where the plant section is at walmart. TIP!!!!! If you go to buy plants at Walmart make sure you look for holes in the dirt in the pot the plant comes in cuz theres a GREAT chance theres one inside of it. You do NOT want to be driving and one crawls out onto you while your drive 50mph lmfao!! Seen 5 crashes cuz of that. Just my front yard ALONE I have counted MORE then 55 holes and all but 2 had tarantulas in them. Wanna buy some? lol

I have seen your comments, but apparently you havent seen my posts. Due to the influx of scammers on that video contacting people saying they had won and the fallout and issues that came from that, I made a post saying that would be the last giveaway I'd be doing until I can figure out a way to safely have a giveaway on youtube without people getting scammed. The winners were contacted directly. Between scammers stealing my logo and trying to rob viewers of their money and people leaving comments acting as if they have been wronged (even though no one had to do anything more than leave a comment on the video to be entered) bc I didn't post another giveaway video, I will no longer have any giveaways on youtube for the foreseeable future. It is too risky and people get too upset when they don't win and cry foul. I will see if i can have an impromptu live stream where I can draw and announce one winner live so people such as yourself will no longer be upset, but nowhere in the title or description will the word giveaway be seen nor any reference to any contest or drawing. I spent hours clearing out scam comments, blocking shady users, and responding to emails and messages from upset viewers angry because they thought they'd won and given up personal info thinking they would be getting the prize. You can look at the comments under that video right now and I'm sure you will still find some replies to comments that are obviously a scam account telling people they won. Even checking back everyday for a weekvor more, and blocking any scam account, they kept making new accounts and leaving replies. Which is why I unfortunately can't do that anymore.

The only tarantula scam I know of is the unsexed section. Trust me when theyn say it's unsexed the be assured that it's a male. Here in the UK at least... I never buy juvie unsexed...
Well with slings it's not all scams
I bought a juvenile LP unsexed from a buy/sell website. I was suspicious and asked if the seller if it was a male and seller said he had no clue as the spider shreds it's moults every time. I bought the little guy anyway, he was only cheap and to be fair, he's now moulted with me and shredded the moult 🤷 WTF dude!? I've still got no clue if he's a dude or a lady 🤷
In a respectful way can you use some other background music
Once the video is edited and uploaded, there is no way to change something like background music. But I use different music from different genres in all my videos, so if you don't enjoy the style of music in one video, then maybe you will like it in another video.
