      Facts.
(but tbf I do think that he explained this bit, _although not super clearly_ , when he said the piece of glass thing.
If you're holding a piece of glass you won't stick your thumb inside your other fingers, so the thumb will have to be outside like with the glove.
At least that's how I interpreted it.)

That was a perfect explanation, no real notes just an alt, the glove places your finger in a spit you can make a truly mean hammer fist but isn't good for direct punches, to do so roll from pinky up to form the fist then use your thumb tip to put pressure on the second knuckle of you first finger, clench tight, this is the fist of wingchun that has an brutal hammer strike and some solid flurry punches resembling speedbaging

For everyone hating on his fingers remaining loose throughout: this way of boxing is possible on a bag or pad, but only if your knuckles are well aligned with your wrist and lower arm. I've been doing exactly this hand position myself recently and am surprised to see it here. It's not bad technique: it's different technique. All techniques have their drawbacks

i did martial arts for years and my instructor would kick you if you had an open fist while punching. strength of the punch is correlated to density of your fist (obviously) so more mass in a smaller area. plus you can do a good job of breaking your fingers punching with an open fist, which seems a bit worse than over-flexing a tendon. then again you need to be hitting with your knuckles, not a flat fist anyways

Ive been in a couple hundred bare knuckle... contests? I dont like criticising other fighters, but this guy is just repeating things he's heard. I strongly disagree.

Respectfully, that's not how physics work... That said, science has been working on the way tension, effort, acceleration and impact interact-- and while we understand more every year... no one has anything close to a majority understanding, much less an absolute understanding. Follow the evidence though, not folk wisdom or emotions 😊

@SL1CEND1CEN I don't know how that is relevant to my answer about the physics... the density can only increase with the addition of actual material-- so swinging the hand around held out loosely from the body could increase density because of pooling blood, but tensing doesn't do that.
I did have a few fights in the early 2000's, but I realized pretty early that I wasn't going to be a champion. My cardio was no where near where it needed to be for my weight class, and I thought school was a better choice for me. Which is where I learned what allows me to backup my statement!
I did train with, coach, and corner fighters who had a lot more fights than I did... which, again, isn't super relevant

??? No. That sounds almost the opposite of what you should do for a punch. A fully tight fist should only be applied at the moment of contact, in a punch. If you keep your fist tight throughout the whole punch motion, then you lose a lot of speed and power.

@@ruga-ventoj Well I didn’t say anything about keeping it as tight as possible throughout the punch motion 😂 so your comment doesn’t apply. I just said that I thought a tight fist translated to a harder punch than a punch from an open or loose fist.
Also a punch is thrown and landed in a split second, do you think someone’s got time to be cycling through squeezing and loosening right before impact with every punch of a combination? Surely if you can do that you aren’t punching with good speed. And as physics guy pointed out, it might just be an old myth anyway

I was taught the method you explain with the piece of glass (just not explained like that) in my unarmed combative course for personal security details when I was in the army doing PSD for generals and the secsef and sec army. Its definitely the way to go for bare knuckle

The part where squeezing the fist is something i learned on my first says of self practice, making a tight fist not only hurts the knuckles more but also feels like youre crushing the tip of your fingers

I personally prefer to train with bandages and you naturally get a ball of bandage to make your fist over. You get the conditioning of bare knuckle practice and at the same time you are protected from injury and have rhe proper fist making by default.

Never heard this in my life. Did several arts and every single one made me make a right fist with no gap. This helps to prevent breaking your fingers if you hit accidentally with you lower finger joints. I agree the method provided is easier on the tendon but it raises question to potentially breaking your fingers.
I guess it is one of those, if you ask 1000 experts the same question, prepare to get 1000 different answers (not literal).
But on a personal note, all my spars were with bare knuckle and I think I would have broken my fingers (more so) by now if I did it this way.
