HELL YEAH. When I say I've been waiting for this video since 2004 that isn't an exaggeration. What an honor to help a tiny bit in tracking down one of the longest standing lost mysteries. I'm like a kid a christmas right now about to press play.
I know it's far from being a hot take and that one of the writer expressed that on record but as a die hard Twin Peaks (and overall Lynch) fan, I appreciate how Lost shares a lot of DNA with Twin Peaks in how it embraces ambiguity. Both shows invite viewers to explore and interpret layers of symbolism, surrealism, and unanswered questions. By leaving some mysteries unsolved, they create a cult-like allure, encouraging fans to theorize and discuss long after the episodes air. It's a storytelling approach that prioritizes mood and theme over clear-cut answers. Your channel is amazing man, thanks so much for all the great content. Really appreciate your hard work.
Thanks for the kind words, and I agree. Mood and atmosphere, hypnotizing and inviting audiences like that, something that Lynch was a mastermind in, creates a lasting impression of a TV show. I definitely love that about both shows!
I think the idea behind Ben telling Rousseau to run when she hears whispers is that he knew she'd hear them randomly in the jungle and that if she associated them with the Others then she would stay far away from them, always running around scared and never going near them.
haha I totally forgot about the Walt/Michael/Sideways mashup I made and then it started playing and I was like where do I know this from? What a magnificent episode of Lost Journeys!! We're in the endgame now eh? I'm getting emotional just thinking about it. Can't wait to see what's to come!
I ultimately think of the whispers as largely neutral, just chattering away about whatever's going on like a Greek Chorus. They just get louder when they're anticipating something big happening. Though I do like your theory that the Others are able to do or carry something to trigger the whispers. Maybe it's something like Ben's little water plug to summon the Monster. Personally I still love how on first viewing, "The Other Woman" seems to imply that the Others somehow use the Whispers to fast-travel around the Island. Almost seems like something Juliet would quip about, like she hasn't achieved a high enough Other level to unlock that ability. It is interesting to watch Juliet's reactions in that scene, like she's surprised to see Harper at this particular moment but not entirely shocked to see her old neighbor appear and disappear like Batman surrounded by ghost voices.

What a hauntingly beautiful episode! I really enjoyed the effort in adding the background drone noises scattered here and there.
