      For native hardware, the closest to Hombre chipset's PA-RISC 7150 based RISC CPU with 64-bit integer SIMD is Apollo's AC68080 with 64bit integer aMMX SIMD or A1222's e500v2 with custom 64bit SIMD INT/FP.
      A1222's e500v2 is a dual-core PowerPC Book E CPU with 1.2 Ghz clock speed and out-of-order processing which is more than 10X over Hombre chipset's PA-RISC 7150 based RISC CPU's expected 100 Mhz clock speed.

      Voodoo Graphics has 30 million bilinear filtered textured pixels per second.
      Hombre has 30 million 3D rendered pixels per second. I do not know Hombre has texture filtering.
      Voodoo Graphics can do Quake GL at 640x480, 65,536 displayed colors, and 30 fps www.vintage3d.org/images/voodoo/glquake.jpg
      Both Voodoo and Hombre has a triangle polygon system. Hombre supports SGI's OpenGL.
      NV1 has a quad polygon system which is a failure and does not support OpenGL.
      Microsoft refuses to support NV1 's quad polygon system for Direct3D.

    The Amiga was woefully underappreciated here in North America. Commodore USA had no idea what to do with the machine here, and didn't know how to market it. As such, I can't help but feel a twinge of jealousy over all of the great games that the U.K. and Europe received.

    • @onaretrotip
      @onaretrotip  5 років тому +2

      That's a great shame. We didn't experience the "video game crash" at all over here, with the prevalence of home computers.

    • @ilexgarodan
      @ilexgarodan 5 років тому +2

      Lucky you never had to experience it. Home console sales withered and died practically overnight, once the crash was in full swing. As I understand, game consoles weren't that big in the UK, with the aforementioned prevalence of the home computer market. At least, until the Master System and Mega Drive came around, thanks in part to Nintendo's botched handling of distribution and sale of the NES in the PAL territories.
      Here in North America, our home computers during the latter half of the '80s were primarily IBM PCs and PC-compatibles, as the Commodore 64 started losing steam. And even then, the home computer install base in North America was small when compared to the UK's!

      @@onaretrotip It wasn't so much that a videogame crash hurt the Amiga, more that the videogame crash caused the Amiga marketing team to try and directly compete with IBM PC format/MSDOS in the business realm which, given the difference of processors and the kinds of work being done weren't anything the Amiga could overcome. I think had they targeted the emerging color macs, especially with the video toaster and such for the Amiga which was seriously well above what the color macs were capable of, they could've taken over and maybe the Amiga could've been today's mac in the states. Just one take on it. The American computer history is hella strange compared to the very straight forward UK scene and the cultural approval of both games and computers in general. The US gov't dragged it's feet culturally on the computer front. Now we have a bunch of people that don't even know how to use their stupid cell phones which are just pocket computers. *sigh*

    Planetside was intended as, and will eventually be, a game, not a demo. It has been shunted aside for development of Microcosm
    and we should eventually side it -- possibly late in '93 or early in '94. "
    "Psygnosis seems to be generally comitted to Amiga CD, but most of the things its working on now are for other CD platforms first: Geny/SNES, 3DO, IBM MPC.
    Found out a bit more about the fate of Planetside. It's still alive, but
    now under the name Scavenger 4 (which will use the same engine), but there'sno clear indication yet which platform it will appear on."

    These are mostly platformers, I have never been interested in such games. Their mechanics and appearance are associated mainly with older eight-bit computers such as C64, Spectrum, etc. When I bought my first AMIGA computer, I wasn't interested in games at all. I used music and graphic programs. Fortunately, I came across gems among games like Syndicate, Cannon Fodder, Speedball and decided that playing can be fun and I've been playing for 30 years :)))

    Not much was known on A Nightmare On Elm Street, except it was believed to be an arcade adventure game, with you attempting to avoid Freddy in his many dreamworlds
    According to Danielle Woodyatt, it was always something of an on/off project wirthin US Gold, by the time the licence had expired, she revealed the issue with basing a game on the film, was that the agr group of those old enough to see the film, differed from that of the age group the game was aimed at, so project was abandoned.

    Looking forward to some new Amiga styled hardware about to come to the light in the near future. Hopefully the Stand Alone Vampire units will soon become available & then these games be released down the road. As for me I’ll be investing in some upgrades very soon ... just trying to get my head around as to what exactly I need to do. I wish I had an old fashion Amiga Group to connect with in the USA. Not that I don’t trust EUROPEAN vendors! I am remembering the times many years ago when our local Commodore Amiga Dealer fostered a local user group held at a local community college meeting room ... was it in the mid 1980s or earlier? I still have my 3 Amigas, which have not been used in 10;plus yrs. thinking the on board batteries need attention, but I am afraid to look! One is in a tower. Guess it time to contact some folks? Where to start?

    Another fantastic video. Having grown up strictly a console gamer I always heard lore of the Amiga and how great it was. Dude dont worry, everyone missed out the MD Ultracore, I'm impressed your friend managed to score two, they like sold out instanously. It was inanity. I settle for a PS4 port of the game myself. Is it just me or does Nobby The Aardvark's music sound like Bubble Bobble's?
    And, no way!! They aired The Racoons in Great Britain? That's too funny, great to see some classic Canadian TV make it across the pond, hahaha

    You ever played the Amiga game Alpha Waves? It’s one of my all time favorites, although the DOS port is better due to the amazing vapor wave music. It’s actually pretty much the first polygonal 3D platformer of all time, years before Mario 64 defined its control and camera. It has tank controls and jumping is controlled by walking over bounce pads on the ground. It’s really fun but there are barely any videos on it
