i like to think that every synth Ujjie demos is picked out of his own private collection.
its comforting
But he is actually borrowing and running it through TC Electronics reverb and chorus.
Ujjie LOVES his TC Electronics Reverb and Chorus.
Easily the best synth review channel out there. Many thanks for your work!
Согласен! KORG 👍😁🇷🇺
Great sounding for pads and atmosphere, not so much for UJIIE's amazingly fast jazz hands. Great demo, thanks!
English sub-title is soon....
I had the EX in early '92....and it stayed with me for some 14 years. it's been some 13 years now and the signature Korg Wavestiation EX sounds brought back many memories! Likely, the best synth in the 90's for film score and studio work. I am not in the same league with UJIIE-san, Sir. you are awesome man 驚くばかり !!! I had my fun playing and creating with the EX.
Massive Thanks for doing this demo with the old grand Wavestation EX!
I own the rack version, and it’s really awesome this synth. One of my vintage favourites together with Kurzweil k-2000. All the PADS are incredible.
Love it, thank you Katsunori Ujiie. :D I could watch these video's for ever
Wow great demo that's brought back wonderful memories of using my Wavestation AD and SR.
Awesome video man! Thanks for posting! The Korg Wavestation is one of my favourite synths!
Wow! Synth is so new looking! Like from a showroom - pretty amazing for a 20 yr old synth
30 years old :)
Nice to see a retro synth again finally!
English sub-title is available now !!
WOW! I just about fell out my chair. I never heard anybody play anything useful with "The Wave Song" performance despite it's popularity....but UJIIE just proved it can be done. Mind blown! Love your vids UJIIE!
This is a great review and I learned a lot about the wavestation!
Absolutely!!! So great!!!❤️❤️🙏🙏
Great Synth, great review - thanks!
Soundcombustion no knobs.
Great Chrono Trigger/Secret of Mana sounding melody at the beginning!
Korg is Korg. I love these kind of sounds from my M3 ;)
5:18. Jan Hammer used this in "Beyond the Minds Eye"
Abdiel Velazquez Yes!
氏家さんは、どんなメーカーの新旧シンセでも、パッと操作できるのが凄いわ〜
I worked at Guitar Center when this thing came out, we loved noodling around on it- it was so unique. I think Rush used this or something similar on Neurotica from Roll the Bones, around 2 minutes and 50 seconds into the song.
i ordered one recenty im super pumped for this
1:43 synth glory
Iconic machine, I don't think Korg ever topped the Waveststion.
John Doe this was not their design. It is a watered down prophet-vs without a proper filter.
Its by far their design. Prophet-vs is better in my opinion, but it was really expensive and both synths were quite different sounding...
Check out the Wavestate yet?
@@snuppssynthchannelyea that dude is buggin
Doesn't matter how old a Korg keyboard is, it looks always futuristic.
It was a magic machine and this man gets the most out of every performance
A great synth ! Complex, but powerful !
sweet - hope you show SQ-80 sometime!
Great job!!!
I bought a king korg today. I seen one of these too. I’ll be purchasing this one next time😃😃😃😃😃
I had the Korg Wavestation EX and SR, then years later bought the VSTi version and imho they sound very similar or at least the plugin is very close, maybe even a bit cleaner because of 16bit 44khz conversion for modern soundcards.
さすが、とても良いデモでした。 ところでKORGはソフトのVSTIのWAVESTATIONもあります。 これはハードウェアのWAVESTATIONまったく同じの音あります。
Great demo as usual. Korg also has a VSTI software version of the Wavestation that works and sounds exactly identical to the hardware models. It includes all of the EX sounds plus all of the expansion options.
I have the VST, but it doesnt sound as deep... to me.
Still the choice is hard
Fantastic song 5:16
Northern Lights is so beautiful.
These were a trip to mess around with...This is what eventually became the Kaosillator enjoyed today...
been waiting for a video on my baby by you for a while now ♥
Yeah Louis, it's the best demo of the Wavestation :P
oh hey your from quebec too and yes it is till i get mine up :p
Hahah yes, it's me Lewis
Oh lol that explains it :p ♥ but yea the wavestation is so much fun one day you will have to come by for a jam
At first i wondered, why that synth gives so typical '90-s sound. After that i saw the years when it was produced...
Esse sabe mexe no teclado em todas as funções 😁
I was looking all over the internet trying to figure out what sounds make the "northern lights" patch to replicate in my wavestate. and what an amazing rare situation where out of all the patches that exist he went into detail about that one!!!! than you GOD
Classic pad monster.
2:27 good lord that's amazing
GEOMAGNETIC STORMウォッチ
thank you
DEEP!
Nostalgic for Deep forest :)
i think the very first patch was used (at least partially) in Björk's Human Behavior
I think the one at 7:54 was the one Tony Banks used on the instrumental section of Fading Lights. Pretty sure he edited it to be polyphonic, though, unless that was just functionality Korg added to the VST release.
@Rachel L. Gore Do you think he edited it to be polyphonic? I've seen footage of him playing it live and there's no overlap between the notes as he moves around the keyboard like you'd expect from a polyphonic patch, but there is definite polyphony for about eight measures.
By the way, I'm jealous. I only have 1/3 of my dream setup, which is a Yamaha DX7. I'd need a Wavestation and a Prophet 5 to complete it, but the hardware is prohibitively expensive. Right now I have to settle for the Wavestation VST Korg released.
Fortunately the Wavestate, which also includes the vector controller, is surprisingly cheap and it's the first synthesizer I've actually gotten excited about at release so it will make a great MIDI controller for my VST along with the onboard sounds.
I bought this synth in mint condition on eBay for $499.00.......it is such a fun synth for recording ambient backdrops and overdubbing melodies with my newer synths.
William Conqueror u paid too much.
I got lucky and bought it for $250 :)
Wavestation its like trying to learn another language. ❤
This is the keyboard they used to make some of the tracks for donkey Kong country. Man this this sounds so good I want this keyboard so bad!!!
何でこのタイミングでこれ?と思ったらiWavestationがリリースされました。なるほど。
Which patch or preset is the sound from 1.48? Its amazing and used in many films or videogame musics in te 90s!! :)
Along with the Roland JD-800, these are the deepest programmable, most customizable _wonder synths_ ever created in the 90s! If you're into spending mucho time working with this particular monster to create that "one of a kind" sound or patch, look no further, but be forewarned, because finding one in perfect to good working order after all this time is _NEVER_ going to be a cheap undertaking! You might be better off with a more recent Korg _Wavestate!_
hello, very nice channel. Can you test a Sequential Circuits PRO-ONE analog synth?
Worlds greatest keyboardist
Just pressing a few keys makes it sound like an orchestra
hello, snake charmer
that sound @ :52 I recognize from Fred Hammond's "Deliverance"
This synth was completely designed by Dave Smith and his team from Sequential Circuits...the Ex has all the wavetables of the Vs.This is NOT a Korg but a Squential Prophet WS...
Philippe Zsiga yep. But the VS was MUCH better.
The team, ex-SCI engineers Dave Smith, John Bowen, Scott Peterson, and Stanley Jungleib, then went on to Korg in May 1989 and designed the Wavestation, refining many Prophet VS concepts.
The first sound you show its extremly similar to D50`s digital dance, are this synths related in some way?
No D-50 based on ring modulation, no wave sequencing.
guess im lucky, got 1 today for 100euro :) with 5 cards included in brand new shape :)
The Spectator does it have basic sound like piano or organ in there. Im new to synth world.
@@apihtahe yes
Sorry i use vst version..sounds the same..
START= Very, very Jean-Luc Ponty. Next up - Yamaha DX-1 video - Please
I've read some comments here comparing this keyboard with the Prophet VS and I checked it out, but I must say, even when they follow similar principles and the VS has certain features this one doesn't, they both sound quite different, I'm pretty sure I could do stuff in a Wavestation that I couldn't on a VS and viceversa. I don't get that need of some people to shit on some device in favor of another. Grow up, seriously.
Down to preference really. Back then the synthesis was ahead of its time.
I remember a nice one page ad with Jan Hammer on it saying when he wanted to explore the infinite he chose the Wavestation. I wished I'd taken that advice back in the late 80s.
Dave Smith made them both. The WS has a ton of VS samples and generally was an evolution of the VS. I love my WS, it's very unique.
The VS doesn't have Wavesequences or the extensive patch layering/multi-timbral capabilities of the Wavestation, but it does have analog filters with resonance (the digital filter with no resonance is the real weak point of the Wavestation). The Wavestation design team (headed up by ex-Sequential folk) apparently tried to make up for the lack of resonant filters by including sweep-able tables of prophet VS samples with different amounts of resonance applied. The new Wavestate makes up for many of the things missing in both the VS and Wavestation (a better front panel for one thing), but has less layering capabilities than the Wavestation.

I don't speak a word of Japanese but this was a great review

yes, tryed it out my self :) awesome stuff :) think i got mine very cheap, 100 euros ;) with 5 cards included
Can you please do a review on the Korg O1/W series
Nice I have one.
Unique instrument. The joystick is the reminiscent of the D-50, sort of, but I am sure the joystic movements on Wavestation can be recorded either into the internal envelope or external sequencer, or both. Not sure. I tried those type of envelopes on SY22, which is related to the Wavestation. Anyway, the wave sequencing is a fantastic concept, the smooth morphing of the waveforms, and there could be so many waveforms in a sequence. Not sure about the rhythmic ones, that borders on an arpeggiator/auto-accompaniment keyboards, which was the beginning of the end of respect for synthesizer players in general. Anyway, I like the smooth waveform morphing in the Wavestation.
Andrew Piatek Jan Hammer is one of the greatest keyboardplayers of all time, across several genres. He used the rythmic aspect of this synth alot. An example of this is his soundtrack in beyond the minds eye.

How does this compare with something like the microkorg xl?, I am a complete newby.
This one is a little harder to program, different kind of sounds. If you're starting the microkorg is more friendly, and it's portable. This one is an old and heavy keyboard compared. Anyway, try both if you can and play them. Its your music, so it's up to you. Trust yourself.
Hi
Owned a couple of these. The horrid user interface and lack of proper filters was a deal breaker. Will look for a prophet-VS instead.
James, at the risk of being labeled a heretic, have you tried Korg's Wavestation VST from their Legacy Collection?
Yes....and I have the M1 on my ipad. They gave it resonant filters as well--but I just cannot get excited over vst's. I am a dedicated hardware dude.
I just got the VST in a box, Creamware Minimax. Worth every cent.
Yes, the Minimax rocks! Recently sold mine, but if going for a Minimoog I'd choose the Minimax anyday. 8-voice polyphonic, sweet!
Max Hult actually it's 12-voice. Why did u sell it??
Supposed to be 12, mine started stealing voices after 8 however. Didn't use it enough, I prefer less in your face-sounds nowadays, but softer.
U
"Boy did they ever drop the bomb on people with this one"......historical awkwardness.
After the D50 and the M1 couldn't really find anything anything unique in the new korg at the time
Issie wizzie neither the d50 nor the M1 could do wave sequencing.
Good news everyone, Korg just released iwavestation for the ipad
@@issiewizzie Good news everyone, Korg just released the Wavestate!
@@beatleseternally1170 wich in turn was a poor ppg wave copy where wavetable concept was replaced by x y axis mixed to avoid a lawsuit that what a vs is sadly it was not unique
The best sounds are the 日本語
Korg wavestation vst is better, easier to program and sounds great.
djilyaz prophet vs much better.
it doesnt sound as deep to me...
Feel free to add as much postprocessing as you can...

"Drop the bomb" How ironic.
The era of knobless synths. Ughhhh
right!!! no control
unfortunately the sounds are totally outdated but the system is interesting.
The Central Scrutinizer the acoustic souds maybe, but the others not at all. also what outdated means in music as the 70s, 80s and 90s still have a huge influence ?
not hard to program and process for "modern" sounds
Well a minimoog sounds outdated too but still has qualities
I love the "outdated" sounds!
