When it first came out it hit like a bomb! It was designed by the great Dave Smith of sequential fame! May he rest in peace. Also your demonstration was very good as always. I enjoy your work we need you to show us some of these vintage synths!
The fun thing is that resonant sounds of the Wavestation are simply wavesequences crossfading between different sampled waveforms. This synth's filter was non-resonant (but, along with a bunch of pseudo-resonant waveforms, the effects section has a filter distortion effect with resonance that can be modulated via MIDI controller data).
Big mistake was the non-resonant filter. The latest incarnation has a resonant filter. However, why didn't they put an analog filter in it? It would be a modern VS. One can dream.
@@chichacica229 I duuno, 80s digital synths will always sound like that. They tried to sound more "real" than analogues but just sounded fake as fk. Analogues have their own sci fi sound which is a very cool and pleasing sound. This not so much.
Some stupid comments here. It's always about the context and how creative you can be. Most of todays modern hardware gear does not have depth or personality or a musical context, which means, it's hard to take them with you to rehearsals and just play with a band because they lack of musicality and clear context. They sound modern and all of that fancy shit, but at the end of the day you end up being alone with them or recording music alone just by yourself because it's hard to get them fit in to the mix. That's the DAW thing. With Wavestation i know exatly what i can do with it, live or in the studio. Can not say the same about most of todays modern DAW plastic boxes what companies are now selling as "synthesizers". And when you open them, there are usually one board inside of them and few wires. Try to open Wavestation and tell me what do you see...
Wavestate is a very limited DAW inside of cheap plastic box. Wavestation is a real synthesizer with thousands of sounds (when you add the all rom cards..) and options. Wavestation has a darker tone than its plugin versions, because of the chips. But, yeah. Whatever.
@@KeskeinenAika Sorry, but Wavestate is superior than the Wavestation. In every aspect except the keyboard (but there is a new Wavestate V2 with a larger keyboard)
@@KeskeinenAika I guess it is more affordable than the original Wavestation was back in the days. We are lucky to have all the great modern synths with more features than any decade before.
I remember that sound, Mike and the mechanics, another cup of coffee 😂

Dave Smith était pas importe qui, dieu ait son âme ❤
ecco... momento nostalgia...
👍👍👍👍👍
1:25 That pad sounds exactly like "Lost Again" by Yello!
Mai venduta, è sempre con me ❤
😉 io l’ho avuta 3 volte, ma preferisco la 01/w (questa è la seconda volta)

It would be nice if you could show a demo of the Wavestation keyboard with the Waverex card😉.
1:47 Seems like sound Rythm is gonna get you intro by Gloria Estefan. Don't you think ?
An excellent demonstration of the chessy and dated sounds of the Wavestation.
There is no such thing as a dated sound.

I don't think the wavestation hardware.. is worth it.. when you can have the vst... or the wavestate
i'd rather have a real Wavestation than a VST which always bounds you to a computer.
