    I just used my HF Mini Tire Changer for the first time. I took the slop out of the changer base by using blue tape to tape flat washers to two perpendicular sides of male piece that inserts into the base. The mini changer works great. I did however have to take one of the tires to Discount Tire to get inflated with their firehose inflater since the gaps were too large for me to close with my compressor, even with a ratchet strap. I have 23 x 10.5 -12 4 ply tires on my ZT.

    Thank you for posting. Tire shops are increasingly not dealing with mounting small tires, and lawnmower shops seem to be going out of business left and right. This tool is essential!

      For real, there's only one place in my town where you can get replacement rubber tubes for briggs and stratton motors.

      If you need any tips to set the bead of the tire, let me know. I figured out a pretty easy way without using fire.

    SUBSCRIBED!!! You, my good sir, are a lifesaver! Wrestled with a tire and this changer all day, watched several vids, nada...came across your vid, tried to match your setup and technique and BAM! Tire is seated! And that's on a 13/500-6 tire! Thanks for making and posting this video!

    The HF mini tire changer works pretty well for what it is. When it comes time to change those bigger tires, get ready for a wrestling match. It seems no matter how hard you crank it down it still wants to spin the wheel on the aluminum piece. I bought a piece of bailing belt from tractor supply and cut it out to replace the black circle plastic like piece. Works better. Also put my tires in the summer sun for a few hours. That helps too.

      Thanks for the insight. I can see how the bigger tires could be more difficult.

    use soapy water as lube on the tire for easier de-mounting, and mounting.

    I just bought one and changed 2 tires 18x 9.50 -8 and it destroyed the rubber piece that helps hold the rim in place. I'm going to return tomorrow and on the replacement I'll use a better rubber. Maybe even a trojan.

    I have one works great on front wheels no complaints fails to menthion will not work on a rear wheel slotted drive wheel as i found out on my own. So buy it for rhe right intentions of use on 3/4 inch bushings or wheel bearings only a 3/4 inch slotted rear wheel will not fit it

    Just went and picked this up. At this point threaded shaft will not fit through a 2018 XT1 Cub cadet rear wheel axle shaft center hole. Axle and wheel has basically two flat splines and a center bolt. I’m hoping I can grind flats on each side of the thread to where the wheel will slide over. Crossing my fingers. Hate to be wasting my time and money on a Saturday especially.

    Definitely drill out the mounting pin holes next size up to match a bigger pin or bolt diameter size. The amount of flopping around during change was bad. Otherwise great tool and video.

    It looks to me that the insert fit to the bolted base should be a tighter fit. The pin should snug it in place instead of causing or allowing the setup to flop and wobble around. The demounting/mounting tool seems too short. More leverage would facilitate demounting and mounting. I think that making two tools instead of a single combo tool that does neither function well would be a good improvement.
    I would like to see a small tire tested. Conventional tire tools handle larger tires and wheels much better than small tires and wheels for mounting and demounting. This tool looks aimed at the smaller rim size mounting/demounting functions. Testing it on a small tire would be more beneficial to me than the size that you demonstrated.
    Bead braking is a major obstacle for the DIY'er. This tool addresses this issue, but eliminating the loose fit flopping around issue would greatly improve bead breaking function. Clamping the tool in a decent bench vise mounted to a heavy table or anchored table would likely improve this function.
    There is enough good ideas in the cheap tool to entice me to improve on the design and build my own.

      What’s your definition of a “small tire”? This is a 16x6.5-8 lawn tractor front tire which most would consider small…

      I think he meant a more narrow tire when he said small tire.

    two ply tires are easy, four ply are twice as hard to mount, thanks Lewis

    I appreciate the demonstration but will keep looking for a better solution. That wobble in the stand is a deal breaker for me.

      That's not the tools fault. It's solid. You can also stick the upper part in a vice and not fool with the base plate.

    Can you please try a go kart wheel tire. Small one and use some soapy water

    • @outdoorpowerhouse
      @outdoorpowerhouse  10 місяців тому +1

      I don’t have miscellaneous wheels laying around to try on it, you’ll have to give that a go on your own.

      Bought it specifically for go kart tires. Works fine. My daughter races dirt oval. The only problem I had was the aluminum cone piece had to be ground about an 1/8 of an inch to fit inside the really wide wheels.

    Doesn’t scratch new rims ?

    • @outdoorpowerhouse
      @outdoorpowerhouse  Місяць тому

      I would say scratches are likely when dismounting or mounting the tire itself. See 5:00 and 6:45 of the video.

    You can clamp the edge of wheel with vice grips to stop tire from spinning

    • @outdoorpowerhouse
      @outdoorpowerhouse  Рік тому +3

      You could, but risk chewing up the edge of the wheel. I’d rather not give it a reason to leak.

    They really dropped the ball on the design of the base sturdiness. far too unnecessarily flexible and clunky.. but i could modify it to actually be usable...

    That thing will destroy your bench top.
    I mounted mine on a plywood base and
    set it on the concrete so I can wrestle
    it like the greased pig that it is.
    Shipped instructions are useless and
    there are very right and very wrong ways
    to use it. Just gotta figure it out.
    Good luck, Sir!

      I mounted mine directly to the garage floor with threaded inserts. Works like a charm and can bolt and unbolt.

    Dude bolt the thing down properly, you do sub par work, you get sub par results.
