John Deere 316 Tractors - Two Become One
I have a JD 330 and I want to put a plow but I can't find one for it I was wondering if someone could help me out
Why is it that everyone showing how to remove a lawn tractor tire ALWAYS uses the large rear tire? Don't worry. I already know. Because the smaller front tires are IMPOSSIBLE to break down and remove!
This is a front tire…
That’s all Kawasaki baby!
I've used it to tune my bass and guitar,.....(each string)...as long as its single vibe source it works....
Awesome video brother. Exactly what I needed. Very short and to the point. I saved tons of money watching this video and getting my blower running like it should
I traded for one from a guy that buys and fixes up old mowers and it is a beast! It’ll wear you out from pushing it, but you can’t kill it.
Great demo thanks
What is the part number for the bearing?
M74707
Read other Comments good suggestions, but to further point out that its the worst idea to connect to ignition switch regardless. Any knucklehead could leave it turned on but not running for say, a whole week or longer and youd discover all of these falsely accumulated hours on it... a mess! Your next video would then be how to rollback an hour meter. 😅
Tell me you don't know anything without actually saying it...I guess you don't know that most tractors with factory hour meters do it this way. I guess you don't know that the wire used in this video to connect it was the factory wire for it since it was an option on this tractor. I'd also bet you don't know that every other tractor I've owned with a factory hour meter was...yep, you guessed it, wired this way. So yes, you can leave the ignition on and the meter runs, that's just the way it is for tractors with these types of electrical systems, even from the manufacturer. That's a well known fact, except by you I guess. Instead of calling people knuckleheads, spend some time working at not being one yourself. I would love for you to humor me with your knowledge and explain exactly how you would wire it differently though. Please do explain and while you're at it, you can also tell me why the manufacturers also do it this way.
It is a beautiful piece of equipment, lost art. We USED to make such good stuff.
Excellent video... By chance do you know the bolt size and thread style...?
Thanks, the bolt/nut should be M10-1. Note that it’s also left-hand threads.
The only mowers that you can get today that would last that long are the commercial push mowers from Exmark, Toro, Stihl and Scag, and yeah they start at around $1700.00 these days
My dad did best mower ever made
Simple straight forward video but it is best watched on mute. Better with no music than the soundtrack added to this one.
W 2024 roku zakupulem identyczna kosiarke nie byla na chodzie wymiana oleju i dwoch filtrow swiecy zaplonowej po czym kosiarka ożyła i bedzie kosic nastepne 30 lat
This is the type of video that will be helping JD owners for many years! Thanks for posting!
Thanks!
Good video. What ended up being the problem?
Onan is a tough engine. Keep the oil change and keep that oil filter covered and it will do you right for a long time.
BUT, the thing is, most of us only have a branch or 2 way up that need trimming. Is it worth the expense just for the infreq use this thing will get? Why, after the initial use, there is a high probability it will never get used again. Im thinking the smart move would to rent one from Home Depot or Ace rentals. !
That’s really up to you, but a few times paying for a rental or once paying a tree service and you could have had your own for many years to come. You have to weigh your options. Personally I’d rather buy it and do it myself any time it’s needed for the foreseeable future. 👍
John Deere makes ‘em, Kohler shakes ‘em!
Mine i had to shim engine up half inch for exhaust to clear plus needed a 3/8 drive shaft spacer but not surewhich engine the tractor was supposed to have or if shaft was swapped. My 86 316 had a 79 b48m. Unfortunately frame had been notched for the starter😊
Very nostalgic and iconic sound!😎
Nice 👍
That roll pin on my 210 was completely seized, tried roll pin punches(just spread out pin), some heat, lubricant - what ended up working was drilling out one end slightly and couple hard whacks with a pin punch sized same as the roll pin; remined me of transmission bitch pin on old Honda DX
Just what I needed, ball bearings fell apart on my JD210 - this helped me understand the repair
By the way good video easy to understand
I'm not getting any Spark all the sudden never not started in 30 years took it off trailer couple weeks ago put it on and maintainer which I always do. Went out to start it no spark. No spark plugs no spark at points but I'm getting 13 volts through to the points. Any suggestions. Thank you in advance
Are the points actually moving when you crank the engine?
So glad you made this video. It Convinced me not to buy one. All that movement = wasted energy. When repairing/working on tires, they should be solid with no movement.
That’s the point of the video; to show how well (or not well) something works. The choice is yours. 🍻
Thank you is this the same with the Br 800 c ?
I believe the 800c requires the 5910-890-2307 hex head tool.
What tool did you use for the adjustment?
A small Philips or flathead screwdriver will work.
Good to see you back buddy! Hope all has been well. Looks like you have a nice little project here, with a cool history being behind the wheel of these. Looking forward to see where you go with it.👍
Thanks! It’s been a busy year and I’ve had trouble making time for these projects. Hopefully I can get back to it, especially through the fall and winter.
My son who's 6 has one of these. We put a 5.5 honda engine into it. We put small atv tires on the rear and he drives it all around and is getting to be a master at shifting on his own. He pulls a little wagon around with it and loves his little mower lol. These are great little machines!
Nice, that’s what it’s all about!
Those 14sb are monsters. Wish I could find one.
Those are great tractors
I've had trouble keeping the oil bottle cap on. Lost the first one and ryobi doesn't have a part number to order replacement.
Interesting, I’ve never had this issue myself.
I purchased one in the mid 80’s, still was using til the other day, it just quit, recoil very difficulty to pull. Luckily I was given same machine for parts, I will be getting to it week to try to get one good running machine. I love this mower, back then it was just over $600.
What a PIA!
These old tractors were known for being the most ergonomic but they sure last a really long time when taken care of.
I think putting it directly into the intake is useless.
How do you figure?
I tried this last night and the pressure pushed my piston down. I couldn't rotate the engine back to TDC because the pressure was pushing the piston down so hard that it overcome my strength. Is that a good sign?
Sounds like you have the air pressure too high, did you set up as shown around the 2:00 point in the video?
@@stuffyoucando2 yes sir. Gauge was set to zero. I make sure it was at TDC (both rocker arms loose). When I was rotating the engine back to TDC the arrow on second gauge travel to green shaded area but I couldn't rotate it all the way it will push it back down.
I would try again but do something in the beginning to try and keep it from moving. When it’s all the way at the bottom not only are you fighting the air pressure from tester to bring it back up, you’re fighting the compression stroke of the engine too. It may just be too much to overcome combined.
Transmission not moving could be a rock or stick stuck in the track that the large ball bearings roll on under the deck.
if I had a roller chassis open frame 316 I would try to see if I could try putting a Kohler K341 in it
I just used my HF Mini Tire Changer for the first time. I took the slop out of the changer base by using blue tape to tape flat washers to two perpendicular sides of male piece that inserts into the base. The mini changer works great. I did however have to take one of the tires to Discount Tire to get inflated with their firehose inflater since the gaps were too large for me to close with my compressor, even with a ratchet strap. I have 23 x 10.5 -12 4 ply tires on my ZT.
I have a craftsmen tractor and I have replaced my front bearing a couple times now. It seems the bearings don't last very long. The bearings are not tight on the shaft so they rotate and wear on the shaft instead of on the balls. Wears out quickly. Any ideas.
Did you buy the correct bearings initially? If you’re wearing the shaft now you might need new spindles for anything to work correctly now if it’s that bad.
Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I just bought a used restored 317. It doesn't have the front wheels on the deck, but has the middle 'roller", and it does have the two back wheels- should I be looking for a welding shop to have the front two wheels put back on? Or do you know if some of the decks came without the front wheels?
Yes, some decks didn’t have those wheels, do you know what size it is?
Can you show the chain tensioning? I have one of these but don't seem to be able to get a real good amount of tension just turning the plastic screw,
Thanks for the vid. I have a case 446 with the B43M. The engine starts to run rough and die after 20-30 minutes. Once cool, it is ok again. Any ideas of the cause? Also, are any of these after market parts ok to use? Any links to parts source? Thanks in Advance!
It could be a coil going bad that acts up once it gets hot. I wouldn’t go buying the cheapest parts out there though, I tend to look at the reviews of things to see if the quality is decent.
Will any blade fit that once you have a 3-point hitch on it?
Any cat 0 blade would fit. The blade in this video is a cat 1 that I changed the pins out on to work with the cat 0 3 point. Even then, depending on how a blade or other accessory is made, it could be difficult to lift it high enough because of the larger size of cat 1 implements.
@@outdoorpowerhouse got it. Thx!
Great video but you forgot to mention that the engine needs to run 15 minutes and then totally cool down and be re-torqued. This is important because the new gasket will expand and contract which could loosen the head bolts.
I didn’t forget, it’s just not needed…
