I’ve owned a 2012 and it was a phenomenal experience and ride. I enjoyed the bike all the way around. It stayed garaged and only rode it in Arizona winter months. Unfortunately I was hit by an SUV in 2019 and it was totaled out. I’d buy another one, but I dislike the two tone colors of the 19/20.
I went through this with a 2005 Rocket 3, i think I was depressed at the time and wanted the biggest monster I could afford. I had to lobby Triumph to get the secret recall done which was a full pull down of the motor to replace gear shift parts and a tail shaft bearing. The bike goes well now and been sitting in my garage for years with less than 20k on it. When I rarely ride it, there's always someone who wants to talk about it, it's like an event riding something so big and with so much torque it still gives me a high every time i pull from the lights, i still love it.
Good on ya for being honest about the transmission issue when re-selling the bike unlike the guy that sold it to you. Seems to be a lack of character and integrity these days with people.
I'm just going to play devils advocate here.....isn't it possible the previous owner wasn't aware of the problem? Of course, that's likely not the case.....but it IS entirely possible. I owned a 2007 with the 2nd gear failure and I was able to ride it around without an issue so long as I did not accelerate hard in 2nd gear. Maybe he rode it like a girl.....just sayin
yes,, was a good karma,,integrity move on your part,,,i have bought bikes that had issues,,,i bought my 08 zx14 without a test ride,,,guy had no idea if i could ride a bike,,let alone a 175hp one,,but happy i bought it
Stuck around for the whole video because I was so interested. I picked up a 2016 gray B.O.S.S. in 2017 and I love it. No really issues so far, had some new tires thrown on and dyno tuned it since I added K&N filters and bored out the exhaust baffles. Reslly helped out my horsepower and torque curves (110hp and 100 ft/lbs, respectively). Now it's time for me to start on the visual mods, and then toss on a new exhaust for a meaner exhaust tone.
Your honesty and integrity will get you so far in life man! 💯 Best of luck to you on all that life has for you! Much respect from Greenville, NC, keep doing you bro!
I had a 2006 M109R from 2016 to about 2.5 years later. Brought it from about 6k miles to 21k miles during that time. I absolutely loved the way it looked, especially with the Yani Shiki blade levers and spiked grips and pegs I installed, and loved the way it sounded and all the power, but ended up dropping quite a lot of money and time on repairs. I replaced the entire clutch. A separate time the clutch cable snapped and replaced that, I also eventually developed the leaky forky and had to take those completely apart to replace a cheap seal at the bottom, and in the end I had an overheating issue whenever sitting at stop lights that I was never able to resolve even after replacing the thermostat and having a garage do some other troubleshooting on the cooling system. I continued to ride it almost daily with the overheating issue going on the last year I had the bike because I could never resolve it and it didn't overheat unless I found myself sitting at stoplights for extended periods from thick inner-city traffic. So I just stuck to highways as much as possible. The last thing I had to replace was the key cylinder that someone in my neighborhood ripped out trying to hotwire and steal the thing. I found my bike downhill from where I had parked it with the key cylinder gutted and wires splayed out. At least it had an engine turnover override in the computer when it doesn't have a certain resistance coming from the key cylinder even though it was a 12-year-old bike at that point. That was it for me. Bought a used key cylinder and key for it on eBay, installed that bitch and sold the darn thing for what I could get for it which ended up being $2,800. Despite all this I would actually consider getting another one sometime down the road, but it would have to be a comparatively newer one. And I'd have to do research and find that the kinks from the older models have been worked out.
Duuude, you went through A LOT! I get your love for it even after all of that. Mine has almost 40K miles and issues are beginning to pop up left and right. No intentions on selling it, though. Gonna strip it, and fix it. Thanks for telling your story.
@jcthawaii not sure why are Harley would ride so much better a black line the hardtail and the Softail all ride like like crap and u can feel the seat bolt on your tsilbone. My VTX will smoke all three of them and is a way more comfortable. HONDA#1
That's definitely a big problem when the bike isn't shifting right,ya gotta be able to be safe, flipping bike's isn't always easy to do brother, ride safe live long Brother 💯✌️😎
Interesting vid, but this is not about the M109R being a bad bike. Mine is a 2007 (same colour, same spec as the one you got shafted with) and I totally love it. It’s never let me down. This is could be about ANY bike, they are all machines and machines need proper maintenance and can’t be abused without limits or they break down . Even a Honda :) For the record I also have a Kawasaki Z1000SX Sports Tourer which is a great bike, in many ways more practical & versatile... and yet if I could keep only one it would be the M109R without question. If you’d been talking about it’s size and weight, or its cornering limitations, I’d have understood more... but people in the market for this bike aren’t going to be bothered by that, or they wouldn’t be into cruisers in the first place. Effortless power, smooth fuel injection, comfort, and nice seat height, and even handling (if you allow for the size and ground clearance) and of course its sheer presence..... the M109R (or M1800R or VZR1800 as it’s called here in the UK) is an awesome bike.
Lol, I never said it wasn't an awesome bike. I got the title correct. It's the worst bike I've owned simply from the added expense of fixing a gearing issue. You can still have a bad experience and love the thing that caused it. And everyone who disliked the video missed the entire point. People were burned by the second gear issue and I made the video so people hopefully wouldn't make my mistake. That issue shouldn't have been there to begin with on the 109.
@@aleksandrokolodko3592 Yes, it makes sense. I jumped from having a CB600R for a couple of years, to the M109R (M1800R in Europe.) The difficult bit was the physical handling of the bike on the driveway and yard, as it is double the weight; but when you’re sat on it, the low seat height compensates (I’m 5’8”:and can easily flat foot it at the lights.) Once you’re on the move, the weight melts away and you soon get the feel of it. It would probably be easier for you, coming from a middleweight cruiser you will already be used to the riding position and the lower ground clearance etc (I was coming from a sports bike, so it felt weird at first.) It’s a huge step up in power, but I always say the bike is only as powerful as your wrist wants it to be and I rode mine well within its limits for the first couple of months while I grew accustomed to it.
I will forever be curious about the M109R. I had two bikes I wanted when I got back into riding. They were the M109R and the VTX 1800. I had actually all but decided on the M109R and then out of the blue, had a deal fall into my lap for a VTX 1800 I couldn't pass up. Bought the VTX....customised the heck out of it. Love the bike....not complaints what so ever. But damn if I'm not still itching for an M109R.
Great information about the problem and a honest review. One suggestion...ya got to learn to work on them yourself ...they are VERY easy to work on and doing that job yourself is a mere small fraction of the dealer quote. Fork seals are super easy and super cheap to do yourself. To successfully flip anything...you have to be able to utilize yourself to absorb costs.
Yeah honestly they are very easy to work on. Good luck with the seals! A little research on the job can also go a long way if needed. Take your time, stay organized, take pictures on your phone if needed to remember how you took it apart and good luck!!
Thanks for sharing you advice. I made a similar mistake many years ago with a Benelli 750 Sei, and I did take it for a test drive. It cut out on me but started again easily. I have fallen for it by then and still bought it. Had one electrical issue after another and got rid of it after a year. Was a lovely machine when it went smoothly. Never actually broke down, but was annoying... Good to be reminded to be careful.
Bought a 78 Yamaha 750 special, 3 cyl. New in 78. A few yrs later, 2nd gear went out. Just drove it like that for yrs. Got a 92 Vmax, bought it like 17 yrs ago, 2nd gear went out in it. I still ride it with no 2nd gear.
I had a similar experience with a woman I met on-line. I just saw her exterior beauty. After a few months, I learned she was not truthful about her low mileage. Lots of squeaks, leaks, a ton of "bondo", and rarely revved up.
This was an excellent video man, you're a natural storyteller :) Also losing a few 100 isn't so bad at the end of the day and you made that guys day I'd imagine who could fix it himself.
Really enjoyed this video Brandon, well done! Good on you for being up front and honest when selling it - and not bitter about your experience when buying (bummed out is understandable though!).
I don't own a car. I ride my 2019 Suzuki Boulevard M109r to work, shops, everywhere. I ride on weekends with my motorcycle club. in 3 years, I've done 22,000+ km (serviced every 6,000km). Still love it, never had any faults since I drove it out of the shop. I have no hesitation in recommending the M109r for anyone interested in a big bike for a smaller price (compared to harley/indian/bmw/etc). I guess it helps being the only owner and knowing every detail of your machine. When you look good, you ride better, you feel good :)
06-08 were most common. Some have seen it on a few years after that, but definitely the 06-08s. Was a hit or miss, though. I know a bunch of people with those years including myself that didn't have the problem.
Bought an 06 and thankfully I was a "hit or miss" that the 2nd gear problem missed! Had about 3k miles when I bought it from a dealer, but I would only agree to the purchase if they gave me some kind of warranty. The salesman said they dont usually give warranties, but when I googled the problem and showed him he understood my concern and have me a 30 day warranty on the tranny. Like Brandon said, I rode the PISS out of it for those 30 days and confirmed there were no 2nd gear issues. Great video Brandon. Love the play on the worst/best bike you've owned being the two 109's. Keep it up
@Rick Hunt different kind of rides, actually. If you're referring to my Bobber, I preferred it around town. Suzuki on longer rides. Since there's so much interest in the 109, might make a follow up to that.
Good video and sorry for your bad experience. I own a 06 M109R and it couldn't be better. Sounds like the shift star was needing to be replaced. Its a common problem with that bike and far less that $2500 to fix. Bike stand and a couple of hours would've knocked it out. Curious? Have you been in contact with the guy you sold it to? Wondering if that was the fix.
Nah, no contact after the sell. Could've been a shift star or the fork, but it would pop out of gear after a successful shift. If I did it again today, I'd be prepared to tear it apart myself to find out.
I mean no disrespect or offense, but to me the Boulevard sounds like a sewing machine in a metal tube. The bikes are beautiful, and that's not something I say often since I'm a traditional HD guy. My buddy has a white 109 BOSS and it handles ok and has decent power for sure it's just not for me.
There is a large number of people with 2nd gear slip in Suzuki forums with this model. The worst part of this is, they are saying it was a manufacturing issue that should be covered by warranty. Given this is a Safty concern built into the bike and not a wear issue, one would think the honest thing to do would be to cover it on warranty as a call back defect. Personally I will stay clear of Suzuki bike after reading that.
Yeah, Suzuki slipped off with the 109 and quietly fixed it. Some people were able to get it covered under warranty but you were SOL if you got it second handed since it was never given a recall. I'd still buy a Suzuki after that event, though. I'd hope they learned from that along with my personal decision making.
What a waste of time. Brandon, your title discourages other potential riders from getting this bike because. You know is a great bike and you still ride one. This is a specific issue with this particular bike and not all M109rs.. Anyway. You just wasted 15 minutes of my life. 13 watching your video with a bad title (just to get views) and 2 typing this) oh GOD... I feel like a waste of time and energy. Enjoy your M109. I own one and I love it.
@@BrandonBicasso the only critique I have on the title is I woulda said “a” m109 was the worst bike…….. not “the” 109 is the worst bike….. lil misleading
Bait and switch title. Well done. But for real, that was good insight into investments and a little history of the M109R, which is one of the most interesting bikes to me
Hard to not be when you talk to yourself, lol. I'm sure people driving by were entertained. I'm probably on a Facebook video on someone's page right now.
@@BrandonBicasso yes, the brain and, fuel scensor went out. Had to replace them, and rewire and replace the fuel pump . Replace and redirect wires in power box in battery. box and got a tune up. For $100 plus parts . Rode it to work last week.
Cool video and story man. I flip bikes and scooters as well but I got very lucky and never lost any money in any of the deals. Usually I sell them for about twice as much as I paid for them but sometimes I get less too. I subscribed to your channel. Keep good videos up bud!
Brandon Bicasso yeah. I usually get about 2-3 deals a year but I get the really cheap since they’re all projects. As long as they’re complete, I’m all game. I can work on them and make them run as long they’re not locked up.
@@BrandonBicasso the bobber is what brought you to my youtube subscription list. It's how I identify you. The 109 is like the sidekick with a sketchy backstory 😆
I bought an 07 in 2010 with 4,500 miles on it, cobra drags, back rest, power commander, and clear tail light for $7000. Ten years later, i currently have 15,565 miles on it.
Brick Face I also bought mine in 2007 blue and white. Sometimes it’s a bit hard to get into second gear but other than that it’s still fantastic and I’ll never sell it
Sorry B I like the 109 especially in that blue.Truth is I'm sick and like just about any bike.I have 2 and always thinking on others! More money more money ,I would have a building full of em.In meantime fortunatel to have k1600b and scout bobber
Yeah, I wanted an M109R until I found about the transmission issues. I thought maybe I could buy one cheap and fix it myself, but I watched videos on it and noped out pretty quick, lol. I do still like the bikes though. They look good and have good power.
Lol, outside of the transmission issue that some of them had, they're solid machines. I love mine and have no plans on selling it. I'm coming up on little service things here and there though like valve adjustments, though.
Dude, I appreciate your integrity and honesty when you sold the bike. Shame on the snake who sold it to you. I plan on checking out more of your vids. Also, you didn’t mention your level of expertise in evaluating or repairing motorcycles, but I wouldn’t invest in anything that I didn’t have intimate knowledge of how it worked. If so, at least get a mechanic to look at it or you are going to lose your shirt. When investing, it’s not when some, lose some. It’s win big, win small.
Yeah, I can turn a wrench, but not to the point of tearing the gear box open. I could with enough time, but it was meant to be a quick month/two month flip. Didn't expect to have a 2K bill to pass on to the next person.
i tried to get that muffler twice from parts giant and they kept sending me the silver one, still debating if i should try to get it again. Anyway did you had to modify adjust anything after you installed the muffler? And those lights are crazy. I have the 2019 M90 Boulevard
I traded a harley talk about junk! For a m109, and it had clutch shudder, and shifted hard,so I ground down the clutch rod the problem is solved! Love it! I'll keep till death.
I know I shouldn't judge a manufacturer on the crappiness of one model, and way back in the '80's I had three GS1100e's that were great. Then I bough a '90 Katana 1100. Big mistake. The thing ate fork seals every year ($500 installed) and there'd be carb issues every two years or so. I kept the thing for eight miserable years, then sold it to the highest bidder. Somehow that was my last Suzuki for many years. I was thinking of succumbing to the lure of the M109R. You brought me to my senses. Thank you :-)
Whew, I need fork seals now. My right one is leaking, but I think it came from some rough roads recently. Got 35K out of them before it started so I think that's not too bad. The 109 isn't a bad bike, but I understand given your history, lol.
What a shame you didn't ride it first. I've had 2, a 2008 (did 35k miles with no issues) and currently have a 2016 with only 3k miles, again no issues.
This is what started the modification process with mine. I lost 2nd gear at 26000km. 09 model, instead of replacing the broken parts with stock stuff I decided to beef up the transmission. Full back cut gearset, billet rods and forks. New shift drum etc etc, fortunately they share a lot of parts with hayabusas so it was all available. At that point I was about 6k into the bike and the idea of twin turbos was something me and a friend had been talking about for a year or so and started to look viable now I had a transmission that could cope. The rest is history I guess
Hey Luke I'm reading your comment, I bought an M109R the only problem I feel is that the 2nd gear is hard to engage other than that everything is perfect I would like to modify the transmission before I lose 2nd gear Could you help me by telling me where I can buy the parts? Or how did you modify the transmission?
Real nice video with a lot of good advice. I too bought a bike without test riding (a '88 Katana 1100) where the guy had no plate or insurance on the bike. It hadn't been on the road in probably a few years although he told me one. The bike that cost me $1900.00 (Canadian) pulled like it had 20 hp instead of the 136 it was supposed to and the clutch drag was awful. Finding neutral was almost impossible, and shifting wasn't great either. About $1200.00 (CDN) later it's a great machine and I have no regrets, ... but had I been able to test ride originally I would never have bought it. All in all I have about $3300.00 (CDN) or about $2400.00 (US) wrapped up in a 32 year old machine that has 114,000 kilometres on it and really is in pretty nice shape.
Do you have a copy of the service manual? If not check out the video I posted recently about the clutch. There's a link to my copy in the description so you can see what's involved.
@@BrandonBicasso thanks. I also recently did my clutch and noticed that the springs in the hub are very noisy. When I let the clutch out in neutral it rattles like crazy. I ordered a new one and those spring rattle too. I guess they're supposed to?
It could be your tub nut is loose but those do have a small amount of play. Not supposed to rattle. Check the tub nut. Basket could be loose on the gear side which is a big problem.
Dainese Airflux. Had it for about 4 years now. Fits like a loose t-shirt but has shoulder/elbow protection. Does get hot, but it's mesh so not as bad. The day I had my accident in 2018, I didn't wear it because of the heat even though it has a minimal footprint. So, I wear it still.
@@BrandonBicasso thanks for the info. I will look into that jacket. Ive been looking at tobacco motor wear, its all lined with kevlar, idk how well thats gonna do during the summer, it gets hot here in Oklahoma.
I am so sorry you had to go tru with that bike issue , you are taking well and you are very funny , you have me laughing so hard , you are awesome , love your video.
Just curious, but what kind of seat do you have on that blue/white bike? It looks deeper and a lot more comfortable than the stock or the wide cut gel seats. I have the 08 LE and got rid of the stock right away for the Suzuki carbon fiber look gel seat. Though it isn’t perfect it has been a night and day difference with a backrest as well. I am now looking for the next best thing and though I love the look of Corbin, it’s hard to justify a grand for one seat and one backrest. Thank you in advance for the information.
Brandon Bicasso thanks for the quick reply. I see they cost just about the same as Corbin..... having that sharp upturn looks like it would be really nice on the back. Kinda off topic, but as we live somewhat close, if you know any other 9ers looking, I am selling my stock exhaust. Love that blue and white Shelby look, I was just too impatient trying to find one.
Bought a VK2 4 yrs Go. 12000ks. 1st 2nd gear issues. Clunks in 1st. Clatters in 2nd. Adj the clutch changed. Oil. Same. But it doesn't jumps on out. Of 2nd. No debris in oil. Double theinclutch into 2nd seems ok. ? Is any others like this
I bypassed all those troubles. I bought a brand new bike with warranty. I bought a 2016 Harley-Davidson Night Rod. I’ve been loving it ever since, and don’t intend to sell.
I purchased 2 gsxr 600 last week one my youngest son test road (135 mph on the 4 Lane in Gulf Breeze FL lol he's crazy) The second one was at a car dealership in Gulf Shores Al in witch the guy said he can't let me test ride because it was on consignment.... The bike only had 1772 miles on it so I said I won't buy without a short test ride so my youngest son said call the owner and ask for a test ride the owner agreed and I bought the bike and love it . I now have 8 street bikes and a 06 black m109 with about 8,000 miles and love. But no never ever ever buy a bike without a test ride no matter how clean or few of miles.
I just bought a 2008 m109r 2weeks ago and I was just wondering what type of oil do you use ? Because I keep getting different answers like I should use car synthetic oil or just motorcycle oil.
With 5 miles? That depends on who's selling. A dealer is gonna charge top dollar. A private seller probably won't charge as much. I'd say a few grand more than book value (7-9k). You're looking at more than 10K I'm thinking.
appreciate your perspective in this video bro. i have a 2016 m109r and i love, love the bike. have you heard of any issues with the newer machines? what is your opinion on the other m109r you had?
@@BrandonBicasso - it's a very simple mod that allows more oil to the clutches. It will save your steels in the clutch. If you don't do it, expect to replace the steels when you do the clutch. Cheers!
I keep reading and watching things on the 109R and it seems to be a tough fun machine. Owners really like it. I'm even toying with the idea of getting one. Used. Which years should I avoid looking at and which years were the colored black. I like the chrome and black color the best. Thank you.
I still don't understand why this bike is the WORST when this issue it is known and common for the early models and everybody in the M109 community deals with it because everything else is insanely awesome. And BTW, the newer models don't have this problem anymore. So... sorry man, just because you got screwed with A bike that had bad transmission, it doesn't make it THE WORST.
The WORST for me because it needed thousands to fix. Regardless on whether "everybody" in the M109 community deals with it. Stop making excuses for it.
and yes, the 109 is insanely awesome, but I'm not giving a pass on something like gear failure or clutch shudder when it shouldn't have been a problem to begin with.
@@BrandonBicasso just because you didn't make the profit you were hoping for, I'm gonna say it again, it's not the WORST. I'm sure the guy who bought it from you, fixed the problem and then enjoyed the hell out of it, like any other normal biker, not someone who's looking for profit (and don't get me wrong, I have nothing against you making a buck from flipping bikes, good for you). But don't bash the bike because you had a loss. The problem is you not the bike
Listen man, I own one of these, and I know what I'm talking. If you really wanted to make a video stating why is the worst, you could've talked about the poor light from the head light, uncomfortable seat, to far away handle bars, a cool looking tire but really unpractical , clunky gear shifting... and probably many more, and trust me, I would've agreed with you, I couldn't fight those points. But when I realized that the reason you decided to say it's the worst was because you didn't doubled your money , that pissed me off.
Then, be pissed off. You have a right to your opinion, but considering I had to dump over 2K back into a bike regardless of whether I wanted to make money off of, is a moot point. It's still the worst bike I've owned FROM THAT EXPERIENCE. Suzuki screwed people over. I'm not letting that pass.
Question: I know this is way after the fact because I'm just seeing this. I own a 2015 Boss and it seems that (your) main problem was shiesty seller error over Suzuki manufacturing error? Trying to make the correlation.
The correlation is clear. Early model M109Rs had transmission issues. I bought one that had a transmission issue that should’ve been recalled. It’s the worst bike I’ve owned from a mechanical standpoint. Doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy riding it. A quick google search “M109R transmission” shows the frustration and challenges owners had to go through with this issue.
A lot of bikes had that problem, sometimes just fully seating second works, could be bent shifter pallls. A guy gave me a bike, took $1600 to run it, a couple years passed bought a new bike, gave away the same bike to someone, who called me and said, it took $1600 to get it running....hope he gave it to someone else!!
Young people are not into bikes, old people are unloading them in droves, especially cruisers. Flipping bikes? Bad idea. All motorcycle manufacturers are downsizing their lines. The best bikes I've ever owned were Suzukis, the worst bike that I ever owned was a Honda Shadow, bought new, that was made in the USA. I'm glad you got most of your money back.
I wouldn't say we aren't into bikes. We aren't into spending a lot of money most of us don't have on brand new bikes. I'm very cost conscious on what I spend my money on. And 3 motorcycles I've sold including this one were to young people. Just depends on supply/demand for that bike.
This is my same exact issue. Bought an 06 m109r with 14k miles, 2nd gear is failing. Thing is, I’m 4700 into it and I’m likely going to have to settle for $3k. Just bought a 17 with only 400miles on it so for the time being, I’ve got 2 109’s until someone buys the 06 who is willing to put in the wrench time.
Brandon Bicasso I did test ride it, but I didn’t ride it hard as you suggested. I had just gotten my boot off after ankle surgery when I got it so I couldn’t use my shifting foot well. I rode it around the block, signed on the dotted line and had the seller ride it to my house where it sat for a few weeks until I healed. The rest is downhill from there...
Flawless storyteller video ! Thanks for sharing your story about being conned lol JK.. wanna hear your advice about the nthe M50 since you were an ex owner. im considering getting the 2019 brand new. Thanks
Loved my M50. Unless you just want a new model, I'd get a pre-owned or previous year from a dealer. Might save you a good amount of coin if that's a thought. They're super reliable when treated right. Newer models really after 2010 are rid of the issues I mentioned.
Yes, Always test ride a bike before buying. I had a similar thing happen with a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Mean Streak. The seller drove 3.5 hours to deliver it to me and it was very windy that day so I didn't test ride it. He showed me that the clutch is harder to pull than normal, but it is only a $10 part to soften the clutch lever. I took his word and found out from a local shop that it is the clutch spring in the clutch pack which required taking the engine apart like this M109R and was going to cost about $700 for parts and labor. I already paid a premium for the bike and was not happy. The clutch lever was fine for riding, but when stopped at a light, it would make your hand and arm hurt if holding in the clutch in very long. Ended up taking a loss on it and traded it in at a local Harley dealership which did give me a generous trade-in value for a new Harley. But, I learned my lesson to always test ride a used bike before buying it.
My 3rd M109R and ive never had one single problem . I was a Harley División guy not anymore ...I absolutely love my suzuki M109R ....
Amen brother, just traded my Harley electra glide for m109r and l wish l had done it sooner. No going back for me !
Oh no. Glad you're still here at least. Can always get another 9.

Wow, glad you were able to get it fixed. Awesome that you have it at your disposal when you want a quick blast. : )
You're a very honest man, sorry to here you had such a let down, safe travels and wish you the best, thanks for sharing!
It was my fault but it’s a lesson learned. I put this out there so others can learn from my mistakes. 👌🏾
If you are buying and selling bikes you should be able to fix them, its no big deal. The Gearbox would have cost you a day and the fork seals an hour.
Good on ya for being honest about the transmission issue when re-selling the bike unlike the guy that sold it to you. Seems to be a lack of character and integrity these days with people.
Yep, it is what it is. I'm content with the outcome, though. ❤️
Maybe he rode it like a girl.....just sayin
yes,, was a good karma,,integrity move on your part,,,i have bought bikes that had issues,,,i bought my 08 zx14 without a test ride,,,guy had no idea if i could ride a bike,,let alone a 175hp one,,but happy i bought it
It's entirely possible that he didn't know HOWEVER, when I asked him several times about it when I got home, I never got a reply back, lol.
Glad you enjoyed it. Love the B.O.S.S in that color. Never had mine dyno'd actually.
Your honesty and integrity will get you so far in life man! 💯 Best of luck to you on all that life has for you! Much respect from Greenville, NC, keep doing you bro!
Preciate the words! 💪🏾😎
If anyone is curious, the puddle under the bike wasn't oil. It was water from washing it. 😌
@jcthawaii 😎
@jcthawaii not sure why are Harley would ride so much better a black line the hardtail and the Softail all ride like like crap and u can feel the seat bolt on your tsilbone. My VTX will smoke all three of them and is a way more comfortable. HONDA#1
@jcthawaii strange I met a guy that lived in Hawaii had the exact same bike as myself but whatever enjoy fixing your Harley hahaha
@@travisconrad5035 actually, I've smoked several VTXs.. Including a F. No comparison to the 109s ability to put down power.
@@travisconrad5035 okay, I'll say this. Can't say "no comparison", but what makes the 109 special is what it does with what it has.

If I had v star 650 for a year. Do you think it makes sense to buy this one ?
Satisfy that itch ; )
Wisdom on 2 wheels. Much appreciated.
I try, I try.
You're 100% right. Part of it was fear and not knowing anything about it. Next time, I jump in I'll have the know how. Trust me 💪🏾
Fork seals are in need of replacing on my blue 109 now. Gonna attempt to do it myself.
Yeah honestly they are very easy to work on. Good luck with the seals! A little research on the job can also go a long way if needed. Take your time, stay organized, take pictures on your phone if needed to remember how you took it apart and good luck!!
couldn't have said it better. only thing I could add is to buy a service manual. ride safe.
Always, it pays to be handy with a wrench...thanks for sharing
Most def.
Defintiely. That's exactly why I made the video.
I feel that. It definitely could have been ridden easily without the second gear. On my 2007, I bang through second gear a lot.
Really liking the direction your channel is going. Im digging the story telling approach along with the camera positions!
More on that! Glad you all are noticing and appreciating the changes.
I really enjoyed listening to your M109R flip mishap. I’ll be checking your channel for more content. Be well and God bless.
Your editing skills are improving. Love seeing the growth. Your story telling style was Good information thank you.
Thanks for noticing, Erik!!!
I had a similar experience with a woman I met on-line. I just saw her exterior beauty. After a few months, I learned she was not truthful about her low mileage. Lots of squeaks, leaks, a ton of "bondo", and rarely revved up.
Lol oh no 🤣🤣🤣
Enjoyed this very much! The whole story telling thing is cool IMO...and I dig trains so thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it!!!! I want to get to the point where I can fix it myself, but I'm happy that someone got it that would enjoy it more.
Really enjoyed this video Brandon, well done! Good on you for being up front and honest when selling it - and not bitter about your experience when buying (bummed out is understandable though!).
Of course not! People should know what to look for, though. Lot of hurt people in the comments, but I did my part to tell the story.
Same thing happened to me with a 2002 Kawasaki Nomad . Now, whenever test riding a bike, I go through the gears HARD.
Damn, how about that. Not too much of a financial hit I hope.
Well said!!!!
You are a good guy Brandon! Always take a second rider with you to evaluate as well. Often we are blind to obvious faults cause of the in love factor.

Yo! From Wetumpka looking for reviews of M109R's and there you are! Nice job man.
Yep! Right down the street 😂😂😂👌🏾
I have a 2006 m109r and that thing is bulletproof, I love my m109r. Its black and chrome and It's a beast!
Ayeeeee! How many miles you got on that thang 😛
All 2016 and above model are fixed with, No more 2nd gear failure. 2023 M109 R Boulevard BOSS is a Beast.
While on this subject, You forgot to inform us about the history of the common(?) Gear failure, and which model years are more problematic
Keep it up
2008 m50,5th gear when riding for a while especially in the summer months.
So what motorcycle have you enjoyed the most? How was that Indian compared to the Suzuki?
For $350, you learned a lot ! That’s a deal in my book ! Nice job 👍🏼
I agree!
😂😂😂 Not the first time I’ve heard that. I’ve had people tell me it sounds like a Jake Brake while decelerating so people hear different things.
Just buy the challenger 🙂🙂
Whew...
I agree!
Love this video format mate. Very slick 🤙🤙
Thanks, Bud!
ive seen him on city of god.
Who dat? Me? 👀
I'm 5 minutes into this video and I haven't heard one thing about the bike.
Okay, click off or keep watching. Your choice.
It is fairly misleading and click-baity.
If you can modify the title, please do so.

@@BrandonBicasso the only critique I have on the title is I woulda said “a” m109 was the worst bike…….. not “the” 109 is the worst bike….. lil misleading

I have always loved this bike and I’m looking for one now, should I stay away from them? What percentage of these have second gear failure?
Early 06-08 were likely. Maybe 10%. Nothing wrong with getting an early model. Just test ride it thoroughly if getting it from a private party.
Good informative video. Never knew Suzuki had that problem.
Yep! They eventually got it right though!
Nice production, cheers from Australia.
Thanks, Gary!
i tried to get that muffler twice from parts giant and they kept sending me the silver one, still debating if i should try to get it again. Anyway did you had to modify adjust anything after you installed the muffler? And those lights are crazy. I have the 2019 M90 Boulevard
Nah, you can put these on and ride without damaging anything. Can reach better performance with an ECM flash, though.
I traded a harley talk about junk! For a m109, and it had clutch shudder, and shifted hard,so I ground down the clutch rod the problem is solved! Love it! I'll keep till death.
Nice! Mine also has a bit of clutch shudder every now and then. I think I will tackle that when I change my clutches out soon.
Great video and cool story! Thanks for sharing!
Sure thing!
Awesome video and I learned quite a bit from it all right thank you👍🏆
What a shame you didn't ride it first. I've had 2, a 2008 (did 35k miles with no issues) and currently have a 2016 with only 3k miles, again no issues.
Yeah, they're solid rides when you don't have the issue. Wouldn't make that mistake again, though.
Great production quality bro! Cinematics on point as usual 🤙
We elevating, Bro!!! We have to create extra hard compared to everyone else, lol.
Brandon Bicasso Give me an easy 9k more subs plz 😂
This is what started the modification process with mine. I lost 2nd gear at 26000km. 09 model, instead of replacing the broken parts with stock stuff I decided to beef up the transmission.
Full back cut gearset, billet rods and forks. New shift drum etc etc, fortunately they share a lot of parts with hayabusas so it was all available. At that point I was about 6k into the bike and the idea of twin turbos was something me and a friend had been talking about for a year or so and started to look viable now I had a transmission that could cope. The rest is history I guess
That’s great to know, Luke! That twin turbo system is a 1 of 1 built system, right?
@@BrandonBicasso that's correct buddy. Only one in the world as far as I know. But I've built a couple of single turbo setups as well
Hey Luke I'm reading your comment, I bought an M109R the only problem I feel is that the 2nd gear is hard to engage other than that everything is perfect
I would like to modify the transmission before I lose 2nd gear
Could you help me by telling me where I can buy the parts?
Did you flash the ECU? That usually fixes the power/torque throttling issues.
No, I’ve never had issues with that aspect.
Do you know much about the m109r and the noisy clutch hub springs?
I haven't. However, I recently changed my clutch and has some video on it. It's not hard to get to that piece to change if it's an issue.
@@BrandonBicasso I dont. Its really not to hard I just want this rattling to go away its annoying
It could be your tub nut is loose but those do have a small amount of play. Not supposed to rattle. Check the tub nut. Basket could be loose on the gear side which is a big problem.
What brand of jacket are you wearing Brandon, does it cause you to sweat bad during the summer?
Dainese Airflux. Had it for about 4 years now. Fits like a loose t-shirt but has shoulder/elbow protection. Does get hot, but it's mesh so not as bad. The day I had my accident in 2018, I didn't wear it because of the heat even though it has a minimal footprint. So, I wear it still.
@@BrandonBicasso thanks for the info. I will look into that jacket. Ive been looking at tobacco motor wear, its all lined with kevlar, idk how well thats gonna do during the summer, it gets hot here in Oklahoma.
Yeah, I normally go mesh. Might not find the airflux but maybe a new variation of it.
Your filming is awesome. Never been to this channel. I like it!

Hey, Will. My seat is made by Ultimate.
Nice! That is definitely a plus of buying new with a warranty.
Brandon Bicasso , thanks Brother. I enjoyed your video, I subscribed, and I look forward to more!
I purchased 2 gsxr 600 last week one my youngest son test road (135 mph on the 4 Lane in Gulf Breeze FL lol he's crazy)
The second one was at a car dealership in Gulf Shores Al in witch the guy said he can't let me test ride because it was on consignment....
Wooo, that's wild but cool stories. I don't think I've bought a bike on consignment yet, but that definitely makes transactions easier.

I sold my 2007 M109 with 50k for 3500 , i told the buyer about the 2nd Gear issue. This bikes where hot items in 2013..
Good on you ❤❤❤
Nice story, lol had me there for a bit, I have a 2017 M109R b.o.s.s, bought brand new in 2018 had 6 miles on it, paid 8600 out the door.
Beautiful
I have a 2017 BOSS bought brand new in 2018 with 4 miles and paid $9,500 dangit. But they did deliver it from South Dakota to Missouri for free.
I just bought a 2008 m109r 2weeks ago and I was just wondering what type of oil do you use ? Because I keep getting different answers like I should use car synthetic oil or just motorcycle oil.
I always use Mobil 1 V-Twin oil. I’m sure others have good experience with other oil. Just make sure you get the oil change right.
What do think is a good selling price for a 2014 Honda Valkyrie with 5 miles on it?
With 5 miles? That depends on who's selling. A dealer is gonna charge top dollar. A private seller probably won't charge as much. I'd say a few grand more than book value (7-9k). You're looking at more than 10K I'm thinking.

We need to talk...

I'd be interested in hearing more about the other motorcycle and how you got your current 109
Coming right up!
Thanks for sharing man!
Ayeee, thanks for watching!
I just bought an M90. I didn't want to pay for the m109r's mpg. Also, Your hair looks awesome!
Thank you! ❤️!😅
appreciate your perspective in this video bro. i have a 2016 m109r and i love, love the bike. have you heard of any issues with the newer machines? what is your opinion on the other m109r you had?
No issues on the newer ones. Suzuki fixed it after 08s, but there were still some models after that with weird issues like clutch shudder.
@@BrandonBicasso - Not 100% accurate. Read up on the "pushpin mod" to prevent clutch issues down the road.
@@HyperPete right. Mine has it currently. Was gonna tackle it when I replaced my clutches. I just live with it right now since I can control it.
@@BrandonBicasso - it's a very simple mod that allows more oil to the clutches. It will save your steels in the clutch. If you don't do it, expect to replace the steels when you do the clutch. Cheers!
@@HyperPete I'll be sure to do that while I'm in there. Thanks, Pete!!!!
I am 5'6" do you think I can drive this bike? My weight is 178
I have an 07 that I've been relatively lucky with it, secondary drive leak is about the worst issue I've had.
My current one has a leaking fork seal, needs a clutch replace and valve adjustments, lol. To be expected with the mileage, though.
Damn, sucks to be duped. Thanks for sharing your story! It pays in the long run to be honest, though. You'll see!
Thanks, Mario!
Brandon, how are you brother. Does our M109R have a handlebar locking mechanism built it.
It does. 👌🏾
Understood. Well knock on wood, I haven't experienced anything yet on mine. Love your content bro. Subbed.
Sure thing. Transmission got a buff in 2010 so it’s been fixed for awhile.
You have any recommendations for aftermarket headlights for the m50?
Nah. I’d find out the mount hardware and custom match one. Plenty of options out there. Might have to run a bracket mounts that works.
Dang, sorry to hear that. Did you ride it before buying it? Out of curiosity. This is exactly why I made this video, lol.
Awesome video. You got a new subscriber!!!
Thanks, Angel! Welcome!
I had this same issue and it was in the clutch and they replaced these springs in there and problem solved.
Simple fix. I'm still on my stock clutches/springs/cable. I'm due for a change here soon. No signs yet, but changing them for peace of mind.
Yess sir !! I am going for 2019 .. its has a 1k bucks sales on it. Thanks a lot man this sounds promising !
Crap that sucks. Glad there was somewhat of a happy ending to your story. I learned my lesson as well.
Bro you got some youtube talent. Great story. Are you in Huntsville Al?
Nah, in the River Region. ✌🏾
Great vid Bicasso. I used to flip cars. Sold the same car 5 times once. 🤪
Lol, the same car or flipped the same car in a barrel roll?
Brandon Bicasso 😂 no I sold the same car 5 times. Long story but maybe one that should be told??
Lol, I think so.
I like your videos bro beautiful motorcycles ‼️ saludos de México 😎🤜🏻🤛🏻
