@GOONZOOF they have been known for the shift dogs/forks to wear, mostly because of abuse and missed shifts. There has even been Class Action Suit filed I believe against Suzuki. They have so much power that I rarely run mine way up in 1st gear before my shift into 2nd, if I do I just preload the shifter before I even pull in the clutch, it does help. Also you have to really shift it like you mean bussiness, if you do it like that it will last you forever with no damage! There's also a shift improver kit that changes out the Star Wheel in there that is supposed to help, done by the 1st Owner.

I have an 07 M109. I’ve had it for about 6 years now and it’s still fast!! I would add to the con list, weak clutch basket. I lost my clutch a couple years ago, pulled the clutch plates out and discovered the flaw In the bike. The basket nut had stripped out due to the insane torque. I’m told it was fixed for 2016 and newer but the fix was not made for older 109s. Also, the clunky shifting was smoothed out with a 6plate mod, as the 5plate original was never designed for this much torque. Finally, I’ve completely personalized mine with hard bags and a train horn to get distracted 4 wheelers attention before they try to kill me. I’ve taken this bike on thousand mile trips, and even a 2000 miler once, but it does beat the heck out of me.... but the pure joy which comes with 2wheels, 137 hp and 147lbf torque far outweighs a little discomfort.(yes... I had it dynoed after adding cold air cones and a chip)
I’ll never get rid of my muscle... but I will be getting a Harley for the longer rides. Thanks for showcasing the 109. Not many people know about how amazing this machine really is.😊

Best review of M109R ever. I had gutted cobra dragster pipes on at some stage. Have been pulled over by cops (not in US) all the time riding this thing for being noisy. One time they even blocked part of the city to catch me (I wasn't running). Was having fun from traffic light to traffic light, as you said. Pure adrenaline. Just watching this review made my heart race again.
One more thing. To make it ride and look better, I recommend lowering it by 2 inches. Will have to replace the kickstand.
And you have to get rid of stock turn lights for leds.
I also never used a passenger seat. Its a one man bike. And you have to get rid of those passenger pegs. Not needed.
Yes, this is a short distance bike. However, I did about 1,000 miles in 24 hours on it once. Alone. Never again. Too much attention. Too dangerous. And that posture is not for long distance riding. My back and neck were killing me. Still best bike ever.
Thanks for bringing back good memories.

The M109 was Suzuki’s answer to Honda’s VTX 1800, which at the time was the bad boy V-twin. The M109 was a tad quicker in the quarter. It was quite a while before Harley had anything close to the two bikes. And when they did, it wasn’t the traditional HD motor (V-Rod).

So I don’t consider that “quite a while” for Harley to come out with something that compares and two, you said “anything close to the two bikes” but the 109 wasn’t until 2006 so that was years after the Harley and VTX, so another bit of misinformation no?

Sean, I had a "Ganglion" on my right wrist. I had it removed (while I was in the Army) surgically and it grew right back. Then, I was swimming and smashed my wrist on the concrete side of the pool. The cyst (Ganglions are cysts) was "exploded" and went away and never came back. My mom said, "We use to put our wrist between two books and hit the top book real hard. That would break the cyst up and the Ganglion would never come back." Old world medicine works sometimes better than modern medicine. Look into a Ganglion and you will find that you may not need surgery. My wife had one on her wrist and put a clay drying compound on it and in 2 weeks the Ganglion went away (smart woman, no surgery, no crushing). BTW, since I was in a Top Secret job, in the Army, I could not be put under during the surgery. The doctor put a tourniquet on my arm and drained the blood. I got to see him cut my wrist and take the snotty cyst out. A tourniquet on your arm feels like when you hit your funny bone in your elbow until it finally goes numb.

I had a very hard time deciding between the Honda VTX1800, and the M109. I landed on the VTX, both have almost the same power(107HP/122ft-lb torque), which felt more cruiser like on the M109, while the VTX felt a little lazier down low in the range, they both have power everywhere, and dutifully put that power to the ground when you want it, or perform a smoke show, whatever. The brakes and transmission on the VTX feel a bit more suitable for this style riding than on the 109, in the end, I was able to save about $1500 by buying the VTX, and so far have zero regrets. In a race, both stock, the M109 feels like would pull ahead, but not enough to matter, both bikes are capable. This is Suzuki's answer to the VTX, which came out in 1999 followed by more models in the next few years, so you'd expect it to be very close, but I didn't get that feel that it was pulling as strong as the VTX, I could be wrong, it's hard to really compare bikes as an average consumer, I think maybe it comes down to the small stuff, for me the VTX, especially the F1 looks better, handles better, pulls harder...but still loses something to the M109, a pseudo sporty feel, I think, but it's a cruiser/muscle bike, so who cares. I probably would have bought an M109 if I didn't fall into the deal I did, just being honest, and I like how the M109 sounds a LOT more, let's admit it, that's a big part to this kind of bike, so that's what the aftermarket is for =). I also owned an S40, which I did not like the metal used to make that bike at all, it would probably rust up if you spit on it :\ that may have weighed in as well.

I had a look at the Honda too. The Yammie, Honda and the Bully all look great, IMO, but I ended up buying the Bully. Awesome for long days in the saddle and the linear power delivery never gets boring. Effortless overtaking, solid as a rock on the highway, fairly economical considering the performance and soooo comfy. I'm a short guy and the ergonomics are perfect for me. Sounds like the VTX is a nice ride too.

I really loved my c50. Fantastic starter bike. Very easy to ride, very comfortable. The only thing it didn't do well was highway riding. Above 70-75 it just felt like you were pushing it a little too hard, and that's where I like to cruise.
I sold it for a first gen FZ1 so I could satisfy my inner rossi, but I'm really considering selling that for a c109.
Maybe wait a year, do that, then get an R1 to compliment it...

What you said @3:40 is so true: you get it just from riding a motorcycle to a small degree, but there's a certain appeal to bikes that especially make being alive after your ride feel like a huge accomplishment👍
Damn that was fast... and you didn't even launch it. But I still don't understand how the M109R was able stick around for so long but Yamaha's Warrior didn't. Same concept: big vtwin, cruiser frame, fat rear tire, sport bike suspension, braking from the R1, plus it looked better, and being air cooled it even sounded better than the Suzuki! It's too bad they stopped making them. I was still young enough to ride sport bikes when the Warrior first came out, and was (still am) a huge Yamaha fan. My first Yamaha was an FZR 600, and it kept me going back for R6's and R1's. Every time, the Warrior would call out to me and I had fully intended to buy one once I reached my cruiser stage... until one day, I stopped seeing it. So, I ended up at the HD dealership instead once my back and arms said "no more sportbikes."

I owned a 2002 Suzuki Volusia (C50) for a couple years. It was a decent machine but after my wife decided to hop on the back and go cruising with me, we moved on up to the wonderful Honda VTX1300s. That has by far been my favorite bike amongst the 9 that I've owned and numerous other road tests of various machines. I did test ride the Suzuki M109 and to be frank, it scared the crap out of me. Terrible low speed handling and a VERY twitchy throttle response. In my mind, that bike was just "Death Waiting For A Place To Happen"! I was commenting to a colleague of mine, (who also happens to be a motorcycle driving instructor and races a modified Hyabusa), that the M109 was pretty scary. His reply? Don't feel bad. That bike "Beat Me Up". Conversely, I test rode a Harley V-Rod with similar power and loved it. I mentioned that ride to my colleague and he ended up buying a V-Rod (the Screamin' Eagle Version of Course). He offered to let me ride his Busa but I informed him that I didn't have a death wish!
Unfortunately my wife convinced me to move to a GL1800 Goldwing from our VTX1300 in 2016. She loved that bike with all it's amenities and comfort but for me it was just a "Car on 2 Wheels" not a motorcycle. Since we were moving out of our house back into an apartment, we sold the Goldwing in 2020.
Now due to advancing years, I've only retained a couple lighter machines. The wonderful and rare 2017 Honda CB1100EX, and I recently picked up a used pristine 1991 Honda 750 Nighthawk. It's now 30 years old with just 30,000 miles on it and runs like a champ. Still a charm to ride and my son and I enjoy going out for cruises together. He knows he will inherit that rare CB1100 in a couple years and he loves it. It's certainly not the most powerful 1100 out there but it has torque everywhere and cruises the highways at remarkably low rpms.
I'll probably give up riding all together in a couple years. My wife thinks that's crazy talk BUT she has never ridden herself. I told her I'd rather "Get Off, Before I Fall Off". I've been blessed to have had the pleasure of riding for over 40 years. It's a great way to clear your head!

Spun a bearing, but still got me to me friend's place in AZ. Tires, batteries, brake shoes/pads, fork seals, fluids, plugs (once), and air filter (once) - I never even adjusted the valves. (I also had a quick shifter on it hooked up to the dynojet. 9.5 seconds the 1/4 mile. Best to get 2,200 revs on boards before launching (lean forward) and your good. Anything higher than 2,200 rpm and the front will come up (I have photos to prove this at the drag strip). But an excellent all rounder bike. (I also had a 300 mm rear tyre kit). oh by the way, I lost my license for 6 months on this bike, and coped a $1,680 Australian Dollars fine. Damn. (60 km p/h over the speed limit, which is nothing for this bike). You need a lot of self control.

I agree with your analysis, this is the Suzuki Muscle Bike : big engine, a lot of torque and a huge rear tire. Excellent video. Many thanks.
