    The highly anticipated Yamaha Raider 1900 vs. Suzuki Boulevard M109R duel has finally come! Today we bring you the footage from the race! For the record, we're not professionals and this was not well organized/planned. Be warned! Still, it's a fun one! Eventually, I would love to get all the muscle bikes head to head against each other: yamaha road star warrior 1700, honda vtx 1800, triumph rocket, harley vrod muscle (night rod), kawasaki meanstreak, yamaha vmax, etc. But today we'll enjoy the raider vs m109r!

      Jon, you're definitely the supreme rider, your buddy was redlining every gear on the Raider, granted I know the Raider doesn't have a tach, but you don't run a V-Twin to the top. V-Twins pull from low to mid. Either way much respect to the two of you for the video.

      Jon's Moto Garage 109r for sure!! No doubt the raider is one of the gnarliest looking power cruisers on the market. But 9R is really fast for ab twin. So is the Honda VTX 1800..... which is why you need to throw went into this mix. I’ve pretty much decided that if my VTX ever quits running I will get an M109R. But my Honda has almost 120,000 miles on it and still hauls balls. The VTX 1800 would probably lose to the 109 but only by a tiny bit. It would be interesting to see.

    I have an 07 M109R LE, an 08 Raider, an 09 Stratoliner, and a 2019 VMAX. The 109 is a little faster than the air cooled bikes. None of them can touch the VMAX in horsepower, handling and breaking. The only thing the VMAX can't pass is a gas station as it has a small tank and gets terrible mileage. Variety is the spice of life.

    The M109R is in another league. The big cube DOHC liquid cooled high revving VTwin will get the win every time over a big cube, low revving, air cooled, push rod VTwin. You pulled hard all the way to about 7000rpm's whereas the Raider stopped pulling around 4 grand or so. If you both would have stayed in it, the 109R would have disappeared on the Raider.

      markurbancowboy maybe not, maybe the m109 dusts it still, or maybe the torque on the raider makes up for its lack of hp off the line and puts a good distance between them. Horsepower wins races and the 109R puts out much more than the Raider. The only way the Raider might win (and this is a big MIGHT) is if you were racing 30 feet. Torque will get you out the hole, but horsepower wins and the Suzuki has a bunch of both HP and TQ.

    The Raider is a really nice bike even if a bit slower than the M109R which is a beast. FYI, you are probably losing some power with that exhaust. Never replace a 2-1-2 with a straight 2 pipe it ruins the scavenging effect.

      The Raider is faster than the M109R. I've ridden both, and raced both against each other. Also, Ivan's Flash is available for the Raider, which removes the engine brake and gives it even more torque, resulting in more horsepower. They're both fast bikes. The Raider is faster, though.

    They are not the same kind of motors at all. The Raider is a longer stroke than bore engine, designed for torque and lugging, not racing. The M109 is a bigger bore than stroke engine, designed for rapid RPM and racing. Not lugging. The M109 has a 4-inch bore. One of the largest bores on any bike out there. In fact, at one time, they boasted the biggest bore. Even if they were equal in HP, the M109 would win the drag because of the engine design. I like Zuk's, owned 2 of them, but they are notoriously lower geared to be rapid. It's not an equal race at all.

The 109 clearly jumped the Harley, but as soon as I hit 2nd gear, my VTX 1800R just ran away from both of them. I had to jerk mine to the left and slice between them to keep from running over the 109.

    Ok the comparison should be like this .. vrod vs m109r or similar bikes..(muscle)
    I have a warrior i am almost head to head with vrod(night rod) because i got special tunning/air kit
    Now we cant compare our old warriors to the new m109rs especially stock..
    Against Vmax m10r has no chance..
    not because of a yamaha fan boy i think my warrior will put power down better than m109r from a dig...
    i rode both m109r and night rod.. i like the ride on the m109r and looks better too...
    Just my opinion..
    From dig i have beaten harley 1800”s because they dont put the power down.. but other gears it will be a different story.. and yamaha handle atleast 5 times better than harlys on twosties.. now no need to fight people i respect all bikes.. harley is the american cult.. but they r going out of business for a reason.. no engineering involved thats why..

      The VMAX is more of a crotch rocket than a cruiser, lol. I do love it, though. The Raider takes the win in all categories for Cruisers (except in Harley forums, where they're just butt-hurt that a Yamaha whooped up on their shitty Breakouts).

    • @alfrede.neuman8611
      @alfrede.neuman8611 4 роки тому

      @@johnspugnardi2743 All categories is stretching it. There are plenty of cruisers built that meet or beat the Star Raider in different categories. Right off the top of my head, I can tell you that bikes like the VTX 1800, Kawasaki VN2000, Moto Guzzi California and about half a dozen of the Victory brand bikes are all every bit as quick as the Raider...and while the Raider might beat up the Breakout, it would get its fender handed to it by the VRod. And these are just other VTwins bikes.
      Start talking about multi cylinder cruisers like the Honda Valkyrie, Triumph Rocket III and Star VMax and the Raider wouldn't stand a chance. The Raider has got a lot of snot in the 0-60 range, which can get it out ahead of many bikes in a hurry, but it runs out of steam in the top end. It's not slow, by any means....but it's hard hitting bottom end tends to give owners the impression that its faster than it actually is.

    • @johnspugnardi2743
      @johnspugnardi2743 4 роки тому

      @@alfrede.neuman8611, you must be M.A.D. (lol) comparing Muscle Bikes to Cruisers. The V-Rod has a wet weight of 619 lbs. and is a muscle bike (street bike), as is the V-Max. Kawasaki VN2000 is the only good comparison, with a top stock speed (estimated) of 124 mph, whereas the stock top speed (estimated) of the Raider is 125 mph. The Kawi keeps up with the Raider nicely, but the Raider takes it in the launch and maintains the lead throughout the range of gearing. The Honda VTX 1800 (1795cc) is a ton of fun, but doesn't keep up with the Raider on top or bottom end. It stays close, however. I'll give you that.
      My point is this: you made comparisons of lightweight bikes designed as Street and Muscle bikes against Cruisers. I was speaking in terms of Cruisers. Of course the V-Max and V-Rod are going to win in a drag race against the Raider. They are both basically crotch rockets, and weigh close to 200 lbs. less than the Raider. Add my fat ass to the equation and it weighs even more, lol.

    • @alfrede.neuman8611
      @alfrede.neuman8611 4 роки тому

      @@johnspugnardi2743 Not mad at all....just seemed like you were in need of an education on the subject. All of the bikes listed in my comparison are cruiser class....with the possible exception of the VMax...though most publications still classify it as such. Bike weight has nothing to do with classification. And as much as you hate the idea, the VRod is still in fact a cruiser class motorcycle...as is the Rocket III.
      At the end of the day, the Raider in stock trim is a mid-12-second bike....PERIOD. You can claim it to be as fast as you'd like based on your "seat-o-the-pants" meter, but that's what every publication and every owner has tested it at. All of the bikes I listed above will also go that fast, or faster. Your notion that the Raider somehow takes the "win" in all categories is simply silly personal bias on your part, speaking out over basic common sense. And that's just simply how it is!

    The engineering focus is very different for these two. The Raider is the Torque King between the two hence that satisfying 123Lb-Ft of torque @ 2250rpm railin' down hard on the pavement(And only Roughly a 100hp peak at around 4.5), but it's not a high revving HP Monster, it's a little diesel. Whereas the M109R is a torquey machine with a peak of 118Lb-Ft@3200RPM but has more horse than torque at 127HP/6200RPM Peak but revs significantly higher. The M109R was meant to still be pretty damn quick for the man who's wife says "The Busa has got to go, you need a cruiser". The Raider was meant to always feel incredible and have consistent mini-hoss pull.
    Power Aside, The handling of the raider is a reflection of incredible engineering, CG and Weight Division as I have customers who are 5'4 to 6'7 Riding Raiders. It's 760Lbs that feels like a well planted 550. Whereas the M109 is much more of a pig, handles more like a fridge. If you two were to do a race dragging peg and pushing limits, you'd find the nimble Raider would take the crown with more concentrated power vs power spread out over a wider rpm range. 109 wins on straights. Raider everywhere else.

    Enjoyed the video. I owned a M90 for 1.5 years, and during that time took a trip up the PCH with my brothers and rented a Stryker for the 1400 mile, 9 day adventure! I never could get the bars on the M90 close enough that I could ride more than an hour before needing a break. The handling of the M90 was hands down better, as was the acceleration. Yet the Stryker was no slouch in acceleration and was far ahead when it came to long distance riding. Still after 250-325 miles in a day, I was ready to stop. What do you think about the handling and ergos of the big brother M109 and Raider?

    Jon you can wheelie a Harley but can’t drag? You got that man! Lol you have all the skills and honestly the metric bikes have been faster than Harley’s since the Vmax came out and like what 1985? While I really like Harley’s I’m always disappointed in there choices. I mean common Moto Guzzi and other smaller bike builders come with Brembos and nicer Shock dampening. I truly feel Harley is just a flat out lazy company when it comes to engine design and power. Harley’s screaming eagle kits should be what the bike comes with stock. All Dynas should have the 110 when your stepping up against metric bikes. It’s like Harley is content with being slow. Then you get the Vrod which is awesome but a very one dimensional bike. Imagine a Dyna with the Vrod Motor??????? Or a Dyna coming with a 117 from the factory. I totally get the feeling I just rented a road glide for the last two days and I love it. The sound and power band is fun to play with but my god there Shock damping sucks and the 107 is still heavily underpowered vs the metric stuff. Hell look at how many companies offering Olin’s has options. Why can’t Harley do the big engines standard in there bikes? That’s the stuff that really bothers me about them.

The Vmax still has a current following and production but the ZL's demanded respect usually came down to the riders ability. Now again they are 4 cyl bikes so not really a fair match for V-Twins. The Ducati is pretty much a 9 Sec bike depending on the driver and tires and conditions. Vmax is also the same way but I don’t think I’d call the Ducati or the Vmax muscle bikes or cruisers. Have you ever rode them? I’ve only sat on them and they were very “street fighter/naked bike feel” I don’t think I’d call those bikes muscle bikes at all. The Vrod and the rocket are true cruisers! Just hop on them without riding them and you’ll know what I’m talking about. The Vmax is very naked bike feeling when you throw a let over and the Ducati is like a mix of cruiser/naked.
    The Vrod and rocket definitely are true cruisers 110% and they are prob the actual definition of a muscle bike. Those other two are kind of in there own category.

    Ok, I can now say that the difference in power between these bikes is so minimal, all that matters is WHERE you prefer your power. Owning and ridi9ng the hell out of a very healthy VTX 1800R, I can say NOTHING "blows it away", not even close, but some bike do creep ahead in some gears, and that's OK with me. Raider's are rare to find on the road, but the one I had fun with had no chance, that being said, I wasn't riding it and as we all know, a lot has to do with the person on the bike. Many M109's, of every lettering, all seem close, but they pull ahead in certain gears, esp. the R version. The rest are pretty much head to head, but the VTX strolls ahead of them in 2nd and 3rd. No Harley's worth mentioning other than the V-rod, it's another close race, but the V-rod is much quicker off the line depending on the rider. Triumph Rocket...it wins every time, it's just stupid fast, don't even bother, it will probably just leave you gasping for air lol. Over all, unless it's a bike that costs 4x more, the VTX is a safe bet if you have a healthy, loved, maintained example. It's impossible to beat the VTX1800 in "bang for the buck"! ...Some other crazy "OMG, I JUST FOUND OUT'S", the VTX1800(speaking of mine only) has a very consistent 1/4 mile time, will bake the rear tire without even realizing it, will do upwards of 140mph+, but you need many, many miles...is completely stable doing burnouts while riding at speed, is scary af over 130mph!!!, and can absolutely wheelie(for whoever that's Important to Oo)...easily kicks into rear wheel drift in fast, or wide corners, and is stable doing it, never a scary moment when it suddenly finds grip(maybe bc of the weight?).lastly, aggressive riding will kill your gas mileage so fast, you'll wish you were driving your V8 powered RAM instead of the bike! :D

    The Raider is a "stroker" configuration, whereas, the M109R is a over square configuration (short stroke larger diameter pistons). The M109R should "rev" faster thus producing power quicker. Strokers shine when you ride double (two heavy people), uphill fully loaded. They are also great for 0 to 40 mph and roll-ons from top gear at slower speeds. I would have liked to see a 5th gear roll-on from 20 mph to 50 mph, two up. I think the Raider might win that race. In other words, passing power with a touring bike fully loaded with two up might go to the Raider. I had a M109R and I hated the twisties with that huge back tire. The bike seemed to always want to "stand up" in the corners. Very nice bike and worth the trill to ride. Never have owned a Raider.

    So i have tuned many a v max , and you will not catch it in a straight line . When the BMW s 1000r came out my buddy and I took to the interstate, and it took him 6 miles to even catch my v max . . I simply ran out of RPM at the top .

    Those are nice bikes man! I wish you could find one of those old Honda magnas (v65, 1100) so you can compare it with the 109r. That would be sweet.

      I've ridden all three. The V65 Magnas used to be called, "The Widowmaker", for a reason. It won't beat either the Raider or the M109R, but all three of these bikes are fast. The Raider takes the win, though. I've never been beaten by the M109R on mine.

      @@johnspugnardi2743 i disagree a good running V-65 would hold its own, its lighter with a high red line. The 109 might be able to run it down but maybe not if its just too far gone.

    I just had a raider that looked the same "raven" unfortunately it's front brake caliper stuck on me and locked the front wheel on me as i started slowing to come to a stop. It got totaled and my insurance paid me $2000 more than I paid for it then instead of buying an m109r I got the C109RT.
