In some ways, the War in the North is even more noble than the War of the Ring. They had no hope of destroying Sauron or ultimately defeating evil. They just held the line to protect their allies in the south, because it was the right thing to do.
well that's what the south did, they had no hope of winning, they won the pelenor fields, but if the battle continued, they would all have died, and worst, the north would have lost, leaving the rest of the population completly exposed, so they all (north and south) were extremely important on holding time for frodo
@@SwfanredLotr its going to take place during the second age, before gandalf ever arrived in middle-earth. nevertheless, a gandalf series would be tight as hell
Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother these days :)
coz the real spear that would cut into Sauron's heart is the work of the two hobbits and the rest of the battles are in support of their work. Star Wars got the idea of one plane targetting the Achilles heal of the Death Star while most of the forces engaged the Empire as a diversion.
Tolkien would be dissaponited in you, Just read about Rome he literally bases alot of his stuff on Rome and I cant blame him. The Pax Romana and Greece are also used
Whenever I read about Dain running to his dead friends body, it gives me chills because he probably doesn't want his friend to be alone in death and to protect his body from being defiled
I think it would be cool if they did 20-30 minute short films of LotR events that we never really got to see. The History of the White Council, The War in the North, Balin's Expedition in Moria, The Battle of Dagorlad, The History of Morgoth, The History of Ungoliant, etc.
wait wait.... so Celeborn rebuilt Dol guldor in elvish style :O , thats awesome kinda makes sense since the really large trees of lothlorien will fade and die
Dude you are amazing, i haven't read the books so i didn't know about the Northern theater, so that is what Legolas meant in the movie by telling Gimli that his people have enough fighting to do (something along the lines)
Lol I clicked thinking this would be about the "War in The North" Lord of The Rings videogame, rather than about the Northen theatres of war in general.
i love your videos they are really good and i learn a lot of backstory from my favourite series. whatever you do do not quit youtube. you and your videos are awesome
Yay! This is by far the best playlist on UA-cam! This video was a bit confusing if you've never seen the movie/read the books, or haven't seen any other videos of yours! But I understood it perfectly :D Thank you so much for your hard work and effort for making these wonderful videos for us
I honestly never knew exactly why legolas says to gimli in the two towers film "I fear war already Marches on your kinsman" and I never knew the context. I'm repeatedly blown away by how much detail their is to things like this. I didn't know Erabor and Dale had to fight off that much. I really love getting deeper into the history of middle earth
I think you are amazing, because im a really great fan of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I learnt a lot from you so thanks for making such amazing videos!
CivilizationEx like seriously, best ever. These help so much with the books. I watch these a few times first when I read the part in the book you talk about. You need more views. I'll try leaving you in the comment sections of other LOTR videos across UA-cam :)
"I should call that a heavy loss, if it was not a wonder rather that in his great age he could still wield his axe as mightily as they say he did, standing over the body of King Brand before the gate of Erebor, until the darkness fell."
Sometimes I wish we could see the battle on the northern hemisphere, mainly battle of Dale and Battle of Dol Guldur...I know it would be as epic as the Battle of Pelennor Fields in the southern hemisphere..
Man it would be cool if there was a movie or a T.V Series set in The Second Age showing the scope and the intensity of the war showcasing the alliance between men, elves and dwarves.
Good summary of the all the relevant events. But you didn't mention the army of the dead that was summoned and led by Aragorn, which was key in helping Gondor and Rohan win the battle of the Pellenor fields.
jimmyboy131 Not in the books, in the books The army of the dead is used by Aragorn to liberate southern gondor from the corsairs, then the sourhern gondorians go with Aragorn to join the battle of the pellenor fields
Whilst Aragon was in rohan elronds sons elrohir and elladan 40 of the northern dunedain (Rangers) who presented Aragon with the Kings banner and delivered the message from elrond "the hour grows late remember the paths of the dead" the grey company (as it was called) was one of the main reasons the dead men of dunharrow answered the call and didn't question for a second he was the heir of isildur for the Dunedain Carried the standard of the kingdom of arnor and Gondor aswell as Narsil elendils reforged sword dead men took the ships from the corsairs and Aragorn released them the Dunedain along with men from southern Gondor then fell upon the forces of sauron during pellenor fields Aragon
Do a 'Focus: Mordor' most people dont know much about mordor and just about the North-Eastern side of Mount Doom (Udun) because that is shown in LOTR, and Cirith Ungol, Maybe do some on Gorgoroth and Nurn (Home of the Sea of Nurnen)
In some way the memory of Thorin oakenshield endure and he did ended up being the king under the mountain so as bard, whose name lived forever in the legacy of his descendents.
Anyone interested in this should play the good campaign for Battle for Middle Earth II. It features a lot of these battles, like the battles for Erebor/Dale, and the destruction of Dol Guldur.
im your number 1 fan thanks for everything all my questions you have answered through your videos I know now the dwarves have a big role in middle earth and they are my favorite goodluck!
Michael White He is correct, as Sauron's body was reformed (though heavily weakened) after 1000 years after the end of the Second Age. Sauron after convincing many Eastrelings to his cause, took the Necromancer mantle during the Late Third Age.
Its unfortunate that "time" is the most crucial resource to make The Hobbit and LOTR trilogies, with each movies takes at least 3 years to make thats why we cant see anymore Tolkien based novels to become films. These films are truly work of art.
Dude, this is awesome ... After just a day of watching your videos I have come to understand tolkien's work. Have you ever considerd making real history videos Im sure you will be able to explain even the most complex historical events perfectly
I appreciated your videos, man. Good work! But in this particular video, inter-twist the War of the Rings(Lotr) and the Battle of the Misty Mountain(hobbit). It's like the hobbit is happening after lotr while it's actually the other way round. It's confusing.
I've never read the LoTR books (Or the Silmarillion), and would like to get into it because of the interesting history and lore, but it seems really hard to get into :-(. At least Civ Ex helps out :-) Thanks for yet another great video
I could've joined the war against Sauron but I guess I was too busy not giving fuck.
Giving a fuck to Goldberry I assume
you were told not to touch the mushrooms!
lol
Tom Bombadil are kidding with me
I think he was trapped in his land, by a spell or something, and he said I think that he was not wanted to help by the istari

Protecting their allies... And themselves lol
The plot of lord of the rings makes a lot more sense from Gandalf's perspective.
The amazon series....
@@SwfanredLotr its going to take place during the second age, before gandalf ever arrived in middle-earth. nevertheless, a gandalf series would be tight as hell

Wow thats like a whole other movie
Emon Clayton maybe we will see it in the new amazon show

Why am I more interested in this than actual history??
Wizards, Balrogs, dark Lords, magic, dwarves, elves, Oliphants, dragons, etc. That's why
Because actual history has the deepest lore but the dumbest plot
coz the real spear that would cut into Sauron's heart is the work of the two hobbits and the rest of the battles are in support of their work. Star Wars got the idea of one plane targetting the Achilles heal of the Death Star while most of the forces engaged the Empire as a diversion.
sesamesushi cuz this is real history
Tolkien would be dissaponited in you, Just read about Rome he literally bases alot of his stuff on Rome and I cant blame him. The Pax Romana and Greece are also used
Dude, you are so good. It's not even funny. Good vid!
Thanks! :)
the dwarves got 7 rings
Lucas Stitt Yes but Sauron only promised to return 3
+CivilizationEx that's fucked up he's evil
lol
ohhh... so thats where the dwarves were. I was so confused on why the dwarves didnt helped.
In a deleted scene Legolas alludes this to Gimli
Finally another Lotr focus, these are definitely my favorite, though I understand why they are uploaded so rarely
yeah, civilizationex LOTR vids are my favorite too. Breaks everything down so well.
what are you, inSAIYAN?
so the elves and dwaves DID fight sauron .. but off screen :(
Tarek Chamas the men of dale helped aswell.
Play lotr bfme 2..n
Whenever I read about Dain running to his dead friends body, it gives me chills because he probably doesn't want his friend to be alone in death and to protect his body from being defiled
THE KING IN THE NORTH ! woops, sorry wrong book
Hahahaha lol
More like the kings of the north
they should make a movie of the war in the north
Agreed
I think it would be cool if they did 20-30 minute short films of LotR events that we never really got to see. The History of the White Council, The War in the North, Balin's Expedition in Moria, The Battle of Dagorlad, The History of Morgoth, The History of Ungoliant, etc.

@J Blythy Yes. Thranduil's father built it originally and abandoned it as the Orcs and Sauron moved into the Greenland Realm and it became Mirkwood.
WILL SOME ONE PLS MAKE A MOVIE OF THE WAR IN THE NORTH!!!!!!
Ilja vermunt
Lord of the rings
Play the video game
Awesome, i always wondered what the dwarvs were doing while the lord of the rings was happening
Dude you are amazing, i haven't read the books so i didn't know about the Northern theater, so that is what Legolas meant in the movie by telling Gimli that his people have enough fighting to do (something along the lines)
im am very late but this is the paraphrased sentence
War is already marching on their lands
I learn so much from these videos, love them, great work man.
I never heard of these characters before, will they debut in Season 7?
PS: Just kidding
lol dude, this is the Lord of the Rings, not game of thrones
I know I have so much catching up to do
Good one.
How can you not know about Grima Wormtounge the Azor Ahai reborn?
Appreciate these videos so much. Thank you!
:)
Lol I clicked thinking this would be about the "War in The North" Lord of The Rings videogame, rather than about the Northen theatres of war in general.
it would be wonderfull to see the full trilogy or solo film made about the war in the north, bringing back the characters known from hobbit.
Just read North and clicked....was expecting asoiaf..savage!
Yep, me too.
Same lol
Instead you selected a video concerning the far superior fantasy franchise.
James Allen that's a fact, but i love Asoiaf more anyway.
I had almost no idea about the war in the North. Great video!
the work and attention to detail found within these synopsis are excellent
Thank you very much for this. I had so many questions answered in this video. Clearer connection to the characters of the hobbit.
I love your italian way to pronounce names,it makes me feel at home more than with normal pronunciation
That is the plot of Battle for Middle Earth II.
Nope, the plot is Sauron succeeding in his plans, what he didn't
The irony is: in my early age I used to think LotR was real and the elves left the men to hold Earth as they went away. I guess I am correct..
Eventually tolkien did intent the story to end in a similar way.
i love your videos they are really good and i learn a lot of backstory from my favourite series. whatever you do do not quit youtube. you and your videos are awesome

I love them so much.
Or do they take to much time?
I will always make more, but I don't make them that often because they are unfortunately not that popular.
+CivilizationEx
Ah ok solid reason.
May we never forget what the Erebor Union did.

Battle for Middle earth 2's campaign is exactly this war.
I love these videos, they're so interesting!
Awesome that Thranduil was one of the few great elves that remained in middle-earth. He is highly attached to the woodland realm...
Haven't seen a LOTR video in awhile. Really enjoyed it, man.
I hope you continue to do lord of the rings videos. so good.

You make the best videos on GOT. I'm not sure why you don't have a million views
Durandisse84 Durandisse This is not A Song of Ice and Fire lore video, but a Lord of the Rings lore video.
Very well done and explained.
Man I now want someone to do a movie solely for that Dwarves and Dale vs Ryun war
