Wow! - that's what you call a live performance, brilliant stuff by the Seekers. So classy too, pure musical talent from all 4 of them and that incredible voice that Judith has, unsurpassable!!!!!
Ms Durham's voice (pitch,control,tone...whatever) is astonishing but for her to produce it LIV E again and again is almost unbelieveable. Her 'Nobody Knows' ...and The Olive Tree (live) knock my sox off. I feel blessed to have lived in an era (since the 60's) prolific with so many wonderful voices ...but there is something almost ethereal about Durham.
+Joel Kovac This show, one of the most hugely watched on British TV, was broadcast live (not recorded). It was the UK's equivalent to the Ed Sullivan Show. Because of that, Judith could not fail to have been nervous. As you say she put in a cracking performance.
+Joel Kovac Truth be told, I've only just become a fan within the last year or so, but since then I've been watching and listening to whatever I can find of this group, and I have yet to come across a single recording where this fine woman hits a bad note; not even a little bit flat or sharp on anything. Amazing control.
WOW. Beautiful, and she can sing too!! She has the best voice to ever come from Australia - Olivia is the only other one who's close, but she sang pop, so I prefer Judith's singing. I first heard The Seekers in the late 1960s, and still have one of their first albums. Love their music. Thanks to all the people who have taken the time to upload these videos for the rest of us to enjoy. I listen to some of them every couple of months. At my age (74 now), I find myself remembering the music of the 60s more and more - the folk music just identified the entire generation so well - and it's so much better than most of the junk being sung since then. Does everyone realize they are the only group to still have all the original members alive (Mary Travers is gone now, two of the Kingston Trio members are gone as well as Lou and Alex from the Limeligters and so many more, too from other groups) - and their voices sound just as good as they did back then. It's such a shame that they only toured the US once - and so early in their careers that they weren't really very well known.
How incredible that there is footage of this song live from England from 1966. They are to me the best quartet that ever performed in the world of folk, pop, or rock. #1 in my heart forever! Thanks for posting this.
My hope is one day folk music will get popular again and artists sings songs like this again. It is my belief that heartfelt music like this can and will save the world from all the hate and hate filled messages being spread via the internet. The time to come together is NOW
On Someday, I love the unison singing with the effortless and barely noticeable seguing into that great, unique harmony. I am from the US, but if someone asks me who my favorite group is, without having to think or hesitate, I say THE SEEKERS. Most reply with "Who?". I then say, look them up on youtube. Most, later say that they see why.
Is she the best female vocalist ever? I think so. She can reach all the notes easily and you can always understand every word that she's singing. Brilliant!
On the start of "Nobody Knows" Ms. Durhamm's voice is almost unbelievably beautiful. Then the boys kick in with that harmony. Matchless, peerless, and one of a kind don't quite do them justice.
Though Miss Judith is my favorite female singer, I would have to put Marilyn McCoo, of The Fifth Dimension, in second place, and not too far behind. I think both are almost, other worldly, as singers.
Gospel needs really good singers who put a lot of feeling into the lyrics and before I heard Judith Durham, I thought singers like Aretha were the only ones who really had soul, but a few like Judith and Dusty and Tom are right up there. I am learning to love my computer and You Tube because I get this opportunity to sing along with them.
Judith Durham's peerless voice backed with sheer perfection in harmonies and instrumentals by Athol, Bruce and Keith. This is music at it's absolute best. The Seekers are a group for the ages. There is no better illustration for future generations about how to do music right than this wonderful group.
I just came from watching 3 very famous lady pop icons sing a trio where each were featured. All were much more well known here, in the states, than Ms. Durham. They were very good and considered the best. I had to come to this post after that. To me, none of them even come close to touching Judith Durham, no question about it.
@drrjim Wow. Interesting and cogent analysis. Not just a cliche, there's something utterly unique about the Seekers harmonization. You're onto something...
+Jack Ryan Maybe, but it wasn't too good for her at the time, trying to deal with her inner demons and never realizing how attractive and desirable she was to so many men. And yes she was, and still is, very lovely indeed!
abberationify Yes, that was unfortunate...just think of all the beautiful music we missed out on because of her insecurities. Her honey-sweet voice only made her more desirable, I believe she now knows that most of us found her very attractive, then & now.
+Kate Wild Judith would looked fantastic in a bunny costume with her curvaceous hourglass figure. This dress does not quite flatter her curves but she is still as beautiful as her voice
The unison singing ,on "Someday" sets you up for a jaw drop when they segue into that harmony. In my mind, no question about it, they are the classiest and best ever of any genre.
@howzitgoin1970 Wish I could have been there too!!!! Congratulations. What a treat indeed... With all due respect to Andre Rieu, The Seekers don't need the orchestra. A six string, a twelve string, a stand-up bass, The Boys, and the one and only Georgy Girl are all they need...
I think she is up there with the best but never gets the credit that is due. She can sing anything in any style and you can understand every word she sings, brilliant! "The Carnival is over" is amazing
Their harmonies here on Someday one day are just fantastic and reveals their secret.Judith's voice blended with the boys is just magic.Think this must be the best version I have heard of this song.
the audio on this video really brings out the group's vocal harmony, particularly on the 1st number. The instruments lie a little further in the background. Very nice.
Crisp and clear picture, could it have been recorded last week? No,it's 42 years ago now, where has time gone? I'm happy so many of their recordings have survived over the years.
@Proculled You are absolutely right. The harmony on that song is awesome. And the synchronization and phrasing of the male voices in the verses is amazing. These people were meant to be together . When I talk to people about Seeker harmony, I show them this clip. Thanks for posting !!
Never has any woman made modesty look so sexy! Likewise no three guys ever made square look so cool. The mutual respect and love these four show toward each other bursts forth from every song they sing. What wonderful role models they are. Oh, that this generation could have such wonderful music to sustain them for a lifetime. Will anyone be listening to Lady Gaga 40 years on? I think not!!! Thanks so much to The Seekers. WE'LL never find another YOU!!!!
@fabfaruk ...I agree 100% with your comment.....I get dismayed with the absolute trash that passes as music/entertainment theses days...how far we have degenerated since the days of the Seekers!!!! What role models they were...no drugs...no tattoos...none of the horrible things of life that are destroying a generation today
one of the few outfits from the 60,s who are still gigging in their original line up so anyone give me another outfit doing the same and I will give u a banana
I never cared much for the song, "Nobody Knows". The Seekers sing it and I get goose bumps. Opinions are what they are, mine especially, but musically, there has never been anything quite like them. And probably won't be on this Earth.
@Proculled There's something unique about Seeker harmony I've noticed since listening to them as a kid in the 60's. I've just been reacquainted with them and am trying not to dissect the songs AND RUIN THEM but something I notice is this Keith fella seems to be singing around Judith's range and sometimes mirrors her and then bounces up to higher notes in the chord. No real bass singer either as they all seem to be around the same range. I should just regard it as magic !
Judith Durham is a great singer .If she was an American ,the Seekers would still be a household name. Judith Durham was a knockout in her 20's and didn't even know it then!
I've re-discovered this excellent group thanks to UA-cam. I remember hearing Georgy Girl on the radio in the USA in the 60s. Did not particularly like that song, but was very impressed with the sound of the group. I don't remember ever seeing them on TV here in the USA. I like folk music and miss its days of greatest popularity in the early to mid 60s.
51 years ago, and the voice of Judith Durham still mesmerizes. Australia's first and best musical ambassadors, with thanks as well to Bruce, Keith and Athol. And yes, the second song is by that Paul Simon; he and Art Garfunkel were still considered 'folk singers' in '66.
@howzitgoin1970 I give Andre thanks and credit, Howzit, truly. But from what I heard (and read) from a distance is that the Ozzy Fab Four stole every show...
@iowa61 I was only there for one show, but when The Seekers walked onstage, they received a standing ovation, just for showing up. In the program, Rieu had them coming on at the beginning of the second act. He must have realized what a downer it would be for him to follow them. By the time they got to Brisbane, The Fab Four were coming on at the end of the listed program. Rieu did a few nice encore numbers after The Seekers left the stage, but he may have underestimated their drawing power.
I just found the entire episode featuring this performance on a bootleg DVD in my collection. That's Jimmy Tarbuck in the beginning (the host of Sunday Night @ London Palladium). My version of the video doesn't have the annoying time stamp watermark but it does have a few VHS generations, nowhere near as sharp as this.
This great video really displays the Seeker's to really communicate music, through fine sing dynamics, tempo, expression, etc. And the range Judith shows vocally is remarkable. This was the group at closer to their peak.
SC
@airager As proculled points out, it's a combination -- the strength and clarity of her voice blended with the already unique harmony of the Boys. Magic.
@xafnav95 I fell in love with her on first site. I really can't get enough of her. I've been slowly buying up CDs and albums and videos. Even got her book. I try to watch every interview she does. She exudes a grace and charm and intellect that rival her amazing musical talent. She is truely one of God's most beautiful creations. BTW, were you an air force navigator? I was a 135 nav. What are the chances.
I wish the Americans had the privilege to see The Seekers around this time. They would have been a worldwide musical phenomenon! Unfortunately their management were not "on the ball" promoting this wonderful group with some sublime songs.
I am not going to mention the guys, who were at the time great musicians, arrangers, and singers( and later dedicated to other activities also offstage) but Judith is a true living treasure. I think her great voice was not so widely recognized at her top, in the 1960s, in view of scarce penetration in the American market. But her life achievements are great enough so that I still hope that someday the British establishment will create her a DBE. She fully deserves that.
@iowa61 Hey, friend. I never noticed that head tilt till you mentioned it. I love it! These Four still have it. I was blessed to be in Brisbane for the last show. I wish all my youtube pals could have been there with me! :)

Yes. Paul Simon spent quite a lot of time in the UK before he became famous. He had a British girlfriend at the time. Howeward Bound was written by him while waiting for a train on Widnes railway station in the north of England.
Right. The power that comes from her leaves one spellbound. Other singers go to the easy ones. Judith picks the ones that will make her remembered forever.
Notice the lyrics....nothing like the trash of Hellywood today.
And that, is their secret of success!
Wow! - that's what you call a live performance, brilliant stuff by the Seekers. So classy too, pure musical talent from all 4 of them and that incredible voice that Judith has, unsurpassable!!!!!

I am almost 80, my youth is coming back!
Watched this live on TV. The Seekers are as good today2017 as they were all those years ago
Judith Durham 's voice, FANTASTIC , let's not forget the rest of the seekers very talented, group underestimated in my view, they were very good
These four people are a real joy to listen to and watch.
Thank you Australia!
Judith: Voice of an Angel.
Thanks for Posting.
Eu também a AMO demais, toca minha alma sempre. Se escutarem yesterday entenderão(Dom de DEUS) abraços
Such a class act. Top of the mountain. It'll be a long time before we see a group with that kind of class.
Holy effing cow this is great. Amazing.
TALENT TALENT TALENT !!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s face. They can make ordinary songs magical. Their harmonies & the wonderful voice of Judith Durham make this an unforgettable live performance.
I just came from watching 3 very famous lady pop icons sing a trio where each were featured. All were much more well known here, in the states, than Ms. Durham. They were very good and considered the best. I had to come to this post after that. To me, none of them even come close to touching Judith Durham, no question about it.
Beauty and elegance personified.
The boys are a very fine complement.
@drrjim Wow. Interesting and cogent analysis. Not just a cliche, there's something utterly unique about the Seekers harmonization. You're onto something...
There's nothing more glorious than seeing a woman who doesn't realise just how lovely she is!
Jack Ryan and kinda sad as well...
+Jack Ryan Maybe, but it wasn't too good for her at the time, trying to deal with her inner demons and never realizing how attractive and desirable she was to so many men. And yes she was, and still is, very lovely indeed!

My wife was a Playboy Bunny so I mixed with a lot of Bunnies I can tell you Judith was just as beautiful as them all.
+Kate Wild Judith would looked fantastic in a bunny costume with her curvaceous hourglass figure. This dress does not quite flatter her curves but she is still as beautiful as her voice
Brilliant! You can really hear the "Boys'" voices clearly on Someday One Day now - and Judith can really SING - wow!
I saw them at the Liverpool philharmonic in 1967. I can remember the whole concert. Amazingly moving.
The unison singing ,on "Someday" sets you up for a jaw drop when they segue into that harmony. In my mind, no question about it, they are the classiest and best ever of any genre.
Judith is just a superlative singer...backed by her lovely men
@howzitgoin1970 Wish I could have been there too!!!! Congratulations. What a treat indeed... With all due respect to Andre Rieu, The Seekers don't need the orchestra. A six string, a twelve string, a stand-up bass, The Boys, and the one and only Georgy Girl are all they need...

@Proculled

They take me back to being a toddler, and I just feel really safe like having a big lovely cuddle when I hear them. :)
one of the few outfits from the 60,s who are still gigging in their original line up so anyone give me another outfit doing the same and I will give u a banana
I never cared much for the song, "Nobody Knows". The Seekers sing it and I get goose bumps. Opinions are what they are, mine especially, but musically, there has never been anything quite like them. And probably won't be on this Earth.
Great. This is the best version of this song from any group.
The power of her voice gives me energy!!
Real quality.
"Right Time of the Night" is a favourite of mine, and I agree that she's magnificent.
Has Judith ever looked more beautiful. A stunning vision in gold and pink.
EXCELLENT
absolutely--she's like a flawless diamond surronded by brilliant emeralds.
@Proculled
There's something unique about Seeker harmony I've noticed since listening to them as a kid in the 60's. Wow, she is good, including The Gentleman!!
Wonderful! Group i remember. listen. to them. as a kid back in Jamaica! Growing. they are the greatest.
@howzitgoin1970 I give Andre thanks and credit, Howzit, truly. But from what I heard (and read) from a distance is that the Ozzy Fab Four stole every show...
@drrjim Keith takes the tenor range when Judith sings lead and Athol is the bass. Very effective but subtle
@iowa61 I was only there for one show, but when The Seekers walked onstage, they received a standing ovation, just for showing up. Truly Australian ambassadors of the highest quality both in music and character.
This great video really displays the Seeker's to really communicate music, through fine sing dynamics, tempo, expression, etc. And the range Judith shows vocally is remarkable. This was the group at closer to their peak.
Yikes, spell check really messed that one up. Should be "close" to their peak.
Just brilliant!!!! Thanks for sharing.
QUE VOZ MARAVILHOSA!!!!

Wow they were so good live.
@airager As proculled points out, it's a combination -- the strength and clarity of her voice blended with the already unique harmony of the Boys. Magic.
j'avoue que je ne connaissais pas ce groupe........j'adore................
My God what a sound!!
Just brilliant. Class. ❤❤❤
@xafnav95 I fell in love with her on first site. I really can't get enough of her. I've been slowly buying up CDs and albums and videos. Even got her book. I try to watch every interview she does. great clarity on this video, just where have these been for the past 40 years !!
What a voice! A great example of this sublime singer.
Wow who can beat that!!!
@iowa61 Hey, friend. I never noticed that head tilt till you mentioned it. I love it! These Four still have it. I was blessed to be in Brisbane for the last show. I wish all my youtube pals could have been there with me! :)
Ah yes The Seekers at the height of their fame and recorded in glorious richly saturated Kodachrome ?
Give us those nice bright colours, give us the greens of summers, makes you think all the world's a sunny day.
If there's anything more perfect than the Seekers I can't imagine what it is!
Neither can I!
@benoni45 They were brilliant! Obviously, they relied on others for their songs. Tom Springfield wrote their biggest hits, imagine them doing "Nowhere Man" or God Only Knows", the mind boggles.
@dominicbeesley Hi Dominic, I just read your comment - a bit belated I know, but I have to put my hands up and confess it was me who 'borrowed' this video from the National film & TV archive in London in 2000. I combined it with a trip to see The Seekers perform on channel 5 the same day. I asked to see anything they had from The Seekers and Judtih, then secretly plugged my DV camcorder into their VCR! rich963 well done Rich! This shows the talent of arguably the best folk group & certainly the best female singer ever. Period.
Thank you for that insight. Can't say I remember that one. :)
We need to help keep this music by introducing the coming generations to it. They will fade away otherwise.
Hello Iowa61 ... just like me out enjoying the best ever music in the world.... The Seekers.... sure wish I could be there next month....
Paul Simon.. The Paul Simon wrote "Someday, One day" for The Seekers?
Yes. Paul Simon spent quite a lot of time in the UK before he became famous. He had a British girlfriend at the time. Howeward Bound was written by him while waiting for a train on Widnes railway station in the north of England.
Wow.. That is amazing.. Adore Paul Simon's work.. Thank you MJC1124
@iowa61 I love it when her voice rests on top of the others, on Rubber Ball for instance.
Judith Durham died yesterday. So sad. Thank you.
If "Nobody Knows" doesn't prove that Judith Durham isn't one of the greatest singers of any generation, well I'll walk from L.A to NY!
Right. The power that comes from her leaves one spellbound. Other singers go to the easy ones. Judith picks the ones that will make her remembered forever.
Amazing performance as always and yet wonder why they didn't sing one of their huge hits? Oh well.
Over FIFTY years ago.......I was a mere Twenty Two....
They were plugging their new record, the Paul Simon song Some Day, One Day. It subsequently reached number 11 in the UK singles chart.
I never knew "someday oneday" was written by Simon/Garfunkel
Llais gore'r byd! Best voice in the world!
