I played DayZ like 10 years ago on cracked servers with a couple of friends every day after school and most of our time would be spent on running from town to town (Electro and Cherno if I remember correctly) to loot absolutely NOTHING and then we got into a fight with another group once a day if we were lucky. That is if climbing a ladder didn't randomly kill one of us.
It was truly an amazing experience
but at least back then you could find a fucking car

I got this game when it was in alpha, which doesn't say anything, but I got it in 2013. All it really needs is AI, more zombies, missions, bicycles, and a re-worked loot system so you get more civilian items for base building and vehicles

Honestly, the Workshop is the only reason this game is still going.
But the creator of the excellent Namalsk map, Sumrak, has been doing his damndest to get the game to a good point with the extremely limited budget and manpower he has of whats left of the DayZ skeleton crew.
It's not there yet, not by a long shot, but he's certainly steering it in the right direction.
Isn't this "game" like ten years in the making?
@@lasarousi It's been passed around like a hot potato (or a problem car) to different Creative Directors which all had different ideas for the game for those 10 years up until about ~3 or so years ago?
Right up until they shut down BI Slovakia down, which was the full-time studio working on DayZ and so we're left with Sumrak's janitorial closet crew in some dark boiler room in the Czech Republic
So to say that it's suffered from some AWFUL mismanagement is an understatement, once Dean left back in early 2014 it was pretty much every man for themselves
Man i remember playing this game when it came out on ps4, there were a lot of friendly people and it wasnt that caotic, made a lot of groups with ramdons. The last time i came back it was the same as in pc, KOS.
Glad to see another video from you. I've always seen that game recommended to me by steam but never bite into it since it had an air of dust and mud.
I'm glad somebody else has brought up the BS player interactions in Dayz because its caused every single survival game in the universe to be like it, Trust is Rare and deep rooted betrayal and Straight up Murder is all too common causing KOS to be the only option if you don't want to lose everything you've acquired. RIP interacting with other players in the apocalypse this is now just a battle royal I guess. The modded servers usually aren't any better at this either, were they all typically just end up being like Rust servers but with a DayZ coat of paint. If you want a good chance at interacting with players you could try an PVE/ no KOS server or an RP server but chances are they've got more rules than a gmod darkrp server and require you to jump through dozens of hoops to get white listed, with tasks such as Writing an essay and Find the hidden word in the rules (which we will not hint or help with at all even for non English readers). LOOKING AT YOU DAYZRP AND STALKER Z. not to mention the BS of these servers getting DDOS attacks every other fucking Wednesday. also there's the stigma (all be it warranted at times) of being a stinky PVE/No KOS player in a survival game in 2023.

Bought this game for PC as soon as it was available because I enjoyed the mod so much. Zombies clipped through all objects including the terrain, there were no vehicles, servers had terrible lag. And it felt like this went on for months but I don't know because I quit and never played it again.
Exact same boat here. I recently saw it now has a good player population and was curious why so I tried it again. It's in a good state now. Found a server that plays very similar to OG Epoch and I'm back to spending countless hours on this damn game. Also deerisle is really freaking good.

I feel like it would be way better if they just made it single player with ai bandits and streamlined a few things. most players act in the same way ai bandits would anyway and at least you're guaranteed to meet the bandits
The best part of DayZ is the random encounters you have with real players. If they made it just single player the majority of the player base would quit.

But this game breaks that tradition by allowing the zombies to take 15 headshots, phase through six walls, slap you once and kill you, and *then* die.

I think the largest issue with day z is that there are so many things that are not explained at all. Where do I go for better loot? How to I make a hook for a fishing rod? It’s all there but none of it is explained

My only experience with this game is playing with black yoshi, being on the opposite side of the map, then him going to bed. Truly a horrible game
The weirdest thing is in my 3k hours on this game i had more fun in pre release dayz than current one after 5 years of absence. This game is literally the definition of making a game so realistic its boring. The one point i do agree on is the ppl you meet and the gunfights i had on this game is some of the most memorable and enjoyable memories i had on this game despite its problems over the years. I have experienced both arma 2 dayz mod and I dayz standalone and even tho i can see the dedication to fixing and finishing the game somehow the mod felt more fleshed out than standalone is as of right now.

As a Brit that is the most British thing I've seen, apologising when getting held up at gun point, classic.
As an avid Project Zomboid player I have to agree that this game’s carpentry is insanely over complicated.
I feel like interesting player encounters were much more frequent in the mod.
Like encountering clans, squads, psychos and of course friendlies. (Possibly because more people played it.)
I was hunted down out of revenge for killing a squad member, forced to be a servant, had a longstanding friendship until I was betrayed, some of these examples happend multiple times and the list goes on.
Only memory I have of dayz was me and by buddy spending 4 hours trying to find each other, some guy helping us, and immediately shooting my friend in the face for eatting a moldy bannanna (he was starving to death and that was the only food we had). I walked to the beach and logged off...I would play it again if I remembered my old steam info.

My best experience with DAYZ was definitely the player interactions: shootouts, Friendly interactions, infighting after 2 hrs of playing with them, surviving with and befriending with friendly players. Idk this game has so much Potential but jesus christ its way to complicated and made me switch to Rust.

My friends and I were playing on a really popular server, had built up a base, had gotten pretty well stocked, discovered another small settlement and then almost immediately got into a back and forth war of raiding each other’s bases and stealing from each other. It was really fun

I have about 600 hours, and I have had one single good week-long life as a solo. And it made me love the game despite all of its flaws. I got to find, repair, and drive a car for the first time, using it as my mobile base. I got to 1v3 a group. I got to raid a base for the first time (found out after using all my ammo on the gate that you could just roll through one of the windows). And I got to betray a group…for like the 50th time…because I’m that guy lol

I’ve been playing FPS for 20+ years, and started playing DayZ in 2023 & have sunk 700+ hours into it. It’s by far the best multiplayer game I’ve ever played.
With that said, you have to know where to play. 95%~ of the servers are terrible, and the core player base really plays on those remaining 5% of servers that are actually great. If you’re a new player and don’t know this, you’re not going to have a great time.

Friendly zones with AI guards in full gears and kill on sight if weapons are fired in the vicinity.
Traders. And fetch quests. With a reputation system. It would be great having to get a certain weapon for a merchsnt or merc for ammo, or food, or such. Reputation with groups so you choose your alliances.

Full PvP servers.
It would be great to kill time. But the game mainly in my experiance is

Standalone is such a dissapointment. I've only had one memorable encounter and that was when my friend and some people he knew on the server all dressed up in UN gear and forced fresh spawns into a truck that we drove down the coastline (feeding them the meat of those who tried to escape). It eventually stopped when some of those people he knew staged an ambush on us. Meanwhile in the mod you have npc traders, proper base building, plethora of vehicles (like tank v tank pvp), npc missions, etc.
This game was made for someone like yoshi
