If not the greatest linebacker of all time, he was for sure the greatest of his era. He had size, speed, could stop the run, destroy the Q.B., and cover receivers. And he did all the above at a superstar level.
49ers won 4 SB's with Montana. Got the 5th ring with Steve Young. But yes, that 90 Giants team was strong beating the 2time defending SB Champ 49ers to get to the SB. Buffalo was a really good team as well.
Great reaction guys..... Another guy from that same team that was phenomenal and considered the best tight end in the NFL during the mid 1980's was Mark Bavarro... He was Gronkowski before Gronk! Think you guys would enjoy that one. Keep up the great work gents.
There never was nor will there ever be another Lawrence Taylor (ROLB) 6'3" 243lbs. He won two Super Bowls 1986 (Broncos) and 1991 (Bills). 1981 Defensive Pkayer of the Year. 1986 LEAGUE MVP. The single man who came close to LT was a dude called Derrick Thomas who used to play for the Kansas City Chiefs. Lawrence Taylor was the epitome of defensive football. Nobody could change the game and win it from defense like he could. There's a few games and you have highlighted in a few plays here where he literally won the game single-handedly.
DT was close as a pass rusher. He wasnt nearly as good in coverage or run stopping. He was young so who knows if hed got better. Still take DT over alot of pass rushers though.
@@Gardenstategreat1225DT had a decent career around 10 years. Can I suggest you go back and watch some of his highlight reels again he did more than just pass rush. Yes that was his specialty but he did a little bit more he was an asset to the Kansas City Chiefs.
@@wadewilson8011 of course I’ve watched. DT was absolutely deserving of that gold jacket. If we’re comparing why people view LT higher than DT, you have to be critical of small things. LT did everything at a high level while being impactful when it mattered most. DT was arguably a equal in pass rush but a massive liability in the run game. You hear guys from the era talk about that when discussing playing the chiefs of the time. He also wasnt able to lift the team to the playoffs and beyond like LT. Whether fair or not the fact LT has the mvp and super bowls to match while being the focal point of the team matters. Thats all i was trying to point out. Its not like DT is some bum. The man is a legend. Looking back at it, it seems you were strictly speaking about a pass rusher effecting the game not total ability so maybe the comparisons i made arent needed. When i said young btw i meant he still had alot left in the tank. For reference
Most people don't know that Lawrence Taylor single handedly revolutionized the way defense is taught! He's the first linebacker that used to do things like swipe the ball out of the quarterback's hands if you don't think you could make the tackle. Or swiping the ball out of the quarterback's hands while making the sack. Little tricks like that has become a standard. A lot of techniques you see modern players use on defense can be traced back to Lawrence Taylor.
People know the movie the blindside about Michael Oher but the book the blindside is actually about how the Left Tackle position became as important is it is now because Lawrence Taylor completely destroyed the conventional approach of blocking outside linebackers with running backs. His dominance forced the other teams in the NFC at the time to put emphasize on having a good Left Tackle who could block Lawrence Taylor because otherwise their chances at beating the Giants were slim.
And that my friends is the greatest defensive player who ever played the game, bar none. Glad you fellas have video or you might not believe it, from a Big Blue fan in NY!
He was drafted when I was 12, I literally watched every game of his career, he was a BAD MAN. THe only time my favorite player was a defensmen. If you have the stomach look up Taylor Theisman
Lawrence Taylor was the Grim Reaper taking peoples souls against the Philadelphia Eagles. I don't recall any player who produce such a sense of dred when he stepped onto the field.
@mpound97 What Taylor did to my Eagles and Ron Jawarski, the quarterback, was frightening. How "Jaws" maintained his composure and health, is a miracle.
And who was LT’s Defensive Coordinator for most of his career? Bill Belichick. Throw in three other outstanding linebackers (Harry Carson, then Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks and Gary Reasons) and it pretty much didn’t matter who played in the Giants secondary.
Anyone old like me remember Tecmo Football on Nintendo???? I remember u could play as the Giants and use LT to block every field goal and every kick off. And Bo Jackson from the Raiders u could run the ball in one play to the end zone most of the time. Then of course Ronnie Lott as 49ers safety was like a lineman but quick. Man football was different back then. Ill never forget the Joe Theismann hit either
LT made a QB fear him so much that when he came to lineup and he couldn’t find LT that he called a Timeout. Come to find out that LT was on the sidelines
Lol that was Jaws from the eagles. He said after he couldn’t find him and called timeout he looked to the sidelines and LT was smiling and waving at him
Like seeing these young bucks paying respect to the greatest defensive player of all time. I had the luck of seeing this man play in the Meadowlands over several years. In person he was even more amazing. LT, the one and only.
Excellent videos. Having watched almost all of the Giants games he played and his rookie preseason, it's was fun watching your reactions to LT. You can look it up, LT wore number 98 in his first preseason he played. He changed the game. He was definitely larger than most of the others and was close to the size of your typical center or DE. Played at about 240 - 255 @6'3" if I remember. Thing was they had to commit a tackle to him, and he would move from side to middle and exploit fear and holes from NYs 3-4 defense. He was great in getting back on coverage too even when committed. He could dead stop the run and end run as well as buck up the middle. He could do it all.
I’m a 40 year old man and I’ve watched football my entire life. I have never seen a defensive player at any position that could completely change the entire feel of a football game like LT. To say he was a beast is not giving him the respect he deserves. There have been many absolutely great defensive players over the years, but only one LT.
@CartierFamily PLEASE React to John Randle "The Craziest Player in the NFL". He was an amazing player growing up in a shack with no running water, no bathroom. Going from being undrafted and cut from a few teams to the most dominant DT ever and being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He finished his career with 137.5 Sacks in 14 seasons.
He’s the first player I thought of when they were talking about how it was insane for an interior lineman to get 5 sacks let alone 20 with Donald. Randle had like 8 consecutive seasons over 10 sacks…not to mention there have been hundreds of other interior lineman getting more than 5 sacks a season lol
LT was an outside Linebacker and not a D lineman or Edge Rusher. He weighed around 245, was faster than most RB’s, was absolutely fearless and could deal with pain that would cripple a horse. Jim Brown is often considered the greatest RB in NFL History and most consider LT the best defensive player ever. Few athletes in the history of the NFL have impacted the game like LT did. My favorite LT moment was when he lit up Bo Jackson on a sideline tackle no one else could have made on Bo. He then offered Bo a hand, helped him back up, smiled and told Bo “Welcome to the NFL Buddy!”.
You fellas should look up “The Rise and Fall of Hard Hits NFL documentary” on here. It’s good it will show how ruthless the game was from each decade it’s about 20 minutes long .
LT wasnt just a pass rusher. He was an absolute terror on the field. Anywhere you put him. Privledged to be able to watch every single game he played. He changed the way you needed to block and every team is STILL looking for the next LT
I am new to your channel and have been enjoying you dudes immensely. To my friend 2nd from the left , Aaron Donald is a great football player, Generational in talent. Lawrence EFFING Taylor, was only the 2nd player ever to win league MVP. I saw every game he played. and even had a few cocktails in the same room postgame. He was and is in the top three players whoever played the game and myself, Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick agree and we all think he may very well be THE greatest. Aaron Donald ? Pffft. Let's see him dominate for 10 years. Been a Giant Fan since '56. And Roger Craig soiled himself whenever they played the Giants . In '86, the Giants knocked out 8 starting QB's including 2 on the Cowboys.
As a life long NY GIANTS fan with LT leading in the 80's they had the best LB crews through the decade with the Crunch Bunch LT, Harry Carson, Van Pelt, Carl Banks, Pepper Johnson, Gary Reasons 👍✊️👏👏👏
We had some fantastic players during those times in a league that was way more savage than the game is today. It's good they've taken the time to clean some things and improve upon some of the accepted practices of those days.
one of my very first memories of of watching football was of Taylor. it was the Giants vs Redskins on a monday night i believe. He got his hands on Theisman for a sack. he kinda awkwardly slide down the side of theismans body and wwhen he came to the leg area Joes leg snapped. man it was gruesome in the perfect shape of an L. if i remember right theisman retired because of that broken leg.
LT was without a doubt, the greatest defensive player in history!! Taylor was the biggest cog on the Giants D, but he had a great supporting cast- Harry Carson, Brian Kelly, Brad Van Pelt, & LT formed the 'Crunch Bunch', they were dominant in the 80s!! As good as JJ Watt & Aaron Donald are, & they are some of the best to ever do it, nobody ever can touch Taylor
What's even more amazing is that LT wasn't a workout warrior with the weights and didn't take care of himself off the field they way he should have. But the man could break down film (see the Belichick interview) and knew exactly what each man's job was in their defensive scheme. His mental IQ along with his physical (6-3, 240lbs, 4.5 in the 40!) freakishly strong made him so dominant
Which always kills me when the haters say he was only good because he was on coke lol…I didn’t know one of the side effects of cocaine was making giving you high IQ
LT was the FIRST EDGE RUSHER. He invented the position and was the first to be called an edge rusher. He remains the #1 defensive football player. He made the game so exciting. Lawrence Taylor was the most feared player ever to play the game. Ray Lewis said LT should be on the Mount Rushmore of defensive players.
He played in 80s -92 with a packed NFC w/ three dynasties competing at once all w great D's. 49ers- 4 Superbowls, 4 Wins Redskins- 4 SBs, 3 Wins Giants. 2 SB, 2 Wins Bears 1 SB win & perhaps best defense ever in 85. Eagles 1 SB(81) And with Payton, Dickerson & Sanders.
You have just watched my favorite NY Giant player. Crap any tea. He just happened to play for my team. I am happy that he got straight. I wish him all the best and thank him for being the best. Can you imagine what he would have done if he wasn't on anything. He ended Joe Theismanns career. They show the play in the movie the Blind Side in the first 5 minutes. It is gruesome.
People need to realize that LT was way ahead of his time. The guy was 6'4" 250 lbs and ran a 4.5/ 40 yard sprint. The combination of size, speed, and strength was unmatched back then. He was so fast that lineman could never really block him and he could run down running backs from behind. Teams would have to change their offensive schemes to prepare for him. He was a massive addition on that defense which was already excellent at the time. You would be hard pressed to find another player that made such an impact during their time in the league. One of the best defensive players to ever play the game.
In 1971, Alan Page, a tackle for the Minnesota Vikings, was named the National Football League's Most Valuable Player - the first defensive player to be accorded this honor. He was also named the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 1971 and 1973.
2:00. Man, for a Lawrence Taylor reaction, this is very convoluted! Give some respect to the GOAT! That being said, I can definitely see Ari S. doing all that shit, and more, but for T.H., that’s a different level!
I got to watch “the minister of defense” Regg White down here in Neyland Stadium as a little kid. He was SO GOOD! How someone that big could move like that blew my mind. But Taylor in the pros had to be terrifying to those QBs. Came in with the hammer fist. He had to have broke a few collarbones and shoulders….had to!
LT CHANGED THE GAME. Left tackle became a premium position because of him. Bigger, faster O lineman were needed because of him. Edge rushers speed was now compared to him. He is the mold that today's defense is based on. We are used to seeing people do this now but LT was the first.
LT was a psychotic sledge hammer who changed NFL offensive pass protection and changed NFL defensive schemes as well as changed line backer play. A literal game changer

LT invented the little swipe at the ball when going for the sack from behind
And that my friends is the greatest defensive player who ever played the game, bar none. Glad you fellas have video or you might not believe it, from a Big Blue fan in NY!
He was drafted when I was 12, I literally watched every game of his career, he was a BAD MAN. THe only time my favorite player was a defensmen. If you have the stomach look up Taylor Theisman
Lawrence Taylor was the Grim Reaper taking peoples souls against the Philadelphia Eagles. I don't recall any player who produce such a sense of dred when he stepped onto the field.
There were dirty players you had to look out for and there were hard hitters you had to watch out for over the middle then there was LT...
@mpound97
What Taylor did to my Eagles and Ron Jawarski, the quarterback, was frightening.
Donald playing under different rules..he can’t get blocked like they used to block…low roll chop etc
Bill Belichick said that Lawrence Taylor was the greatest Player he has ever seen...that says a lot
LT made a QB fear him so much that when he came to lineup and he couldn’t find LT that he called a Timeout. Come to find out that LT was on the sidelines
Remember what he did to Joe Theisman!
@@roberttaylor6694 Ended his career. He knew it was bad right after he tackle him
@@thedarkprince305 he was a BEAST!
Lol that was Jaws from the eagles. He said after he couldn’t find him and called timeout he looked to the sidelines and LT was smiling and waving at him
@@jamal111 we know LT was a BEAST!
A 🐐 no debate 🔥🔥🔥
5:10 that's Billy Sims, not Barry. He wore #20 before Barry did.
Like seeing these young bucks paying respect to the greatest defensive player of all time. I had the luck of seeing this man play in the Meadowlands over several years. In person he was even more amazing. LT, the one and only.
“What about us” by Samson!!!! Let’s go guys, he must be heard!!!
The average linemen during that era were 40 lbs heavier than Taylor
Love hearing y’all’s commentary. IMHO, the top three players in NFL history are Rice, LT, and Jim Brown followed by a big gap.
All respect to Jerry Rice! (Hated the 49'ers.)
Jim Brown was a MONSTER!!!
LT was relentless!!!
There are people who say "Aaron Donald" a lot, and there are people who know that Lawrence Taylor was the best defensive player of all time.
It was JJ Watt. Then Kahlil Mack. Then Donald. I'm even hearing about Micah Parsons now. These people need to relax. Nobody is going to be LT.
John Randle was funny
In 1982 Barry didnt get drafted until 1989. Its Billy Sims another great RB!
LT is an absolute beast. Controversial but the goat. Men feared him.
You fellas should look up “The Rise and Fall of Hard Hits NFL documentary” on here. It’s good it will show how ruthless the game was from each decade it’s about 20 minutes long .
Love the respect to a legend gents!!!
LT wasnt just a pass rusher. He was an absolute terror on the field. Anywhere you put him. Privledged to be able to watch every single game he played. He changed the way you needed to block and every team is STILL looking for the next LT
Also the best player on the field, in the league played on all special teams. was the bullet on kickoffs and also was on the block field goal teams.
As a life long NY GIANTS fan with LT leading in the 80's they had the best LB crews through the decade with the Crunch Bunch
LT, Harry Carson, Van Pelt, Carl Banks, Pepper Johnson, Gary Reasons 👍✊️👏👏👏
Yall need to listen to that boy. He got so much insight. He speaks truth. He the smart one
Yes he did. You are correct!
Bruh i’ve never in my life seen quarter backs just fall out of fear of being sacked lmao dude was a beast. Only 6”3 but he was a straight bull
Make no mistake gentlemen he is the greatest football player ever
LT was without a doubt, the greatest defensive player in history!! Taylor was the biggest cog on the Giants D, but he had a great supporting cast- Harry Carson, Brian Kelly, Brad Van Pelt, & LT formed the 'Crunch Bunch', they were dominant in the 80s!! As good as JJ Watt & Aaron Donald are, & they are some of the best to ever do it, nobody ever can touch Taylor
The GOAT 🐐🤘🤘
LT controlled the game like no other. Never seen anything like him.
When a quarterback comes to the line of scrimmage he checks the defense. When Taylor was on the field the quarterback check where he was.
Dude lawerence Taylor the best line backer at time my dawg.
L.T. was a vicious man. I loved watching him play.
LT was as big and strong as some lineman and faster than some backs. Total package.
You would swear he had every team’s playbook. No one read the field like LT.
Which always kills me when the haters say he was only good because he was on coke lol…I didn’t know one of the side effects of cocaine was making giving you high IQ
My parents are Giants fans so I grew up watching LT in the 80s. Made me a Giants fan.
49ers- 4 Superbowls, 4 Wins
Redskins- 4 SBs, 3 Wins
Giants. 2 SB, 2 Wins
Bears 1 SB win & perhaps best defense ever in 85.
Eagles 1 SB(81)
And with Payton, Dickerson & Sanders.
Gotta pull up that Jamaal Charles highlight tape! Way underrated in my opinion should be in the hall of fame and all time leader in yards per carry.
I like when LT told about his first practice with the Giants. "They put me on the 3rd team. That lasted about 5 minutes." LOL......
Lawrence Taylor 🐐🐐🐐🐐#NYGIANTS
Lawrence taylor is just different than any other football player ever just watching his highlights he's crazy
The guy was good, can hardly walk now…lives in south Florida.😎❤️🎥❤️
2:00. Man, for a Lawrence Taylor reaction, this is very convoluted! Give some respect to the GOAT! That being said, I can definitely see Ari S. doing all that shit, and more, but for T.H., that’s a different level!
As a life-long Giant fan, I was always convinced that Lawrence Taylor came here from another planet.
LT was a beast. Probably the 2nd best LB ever. Please do a reaction to Dick Butkus, the meanest and most feared man to ever play the game.
my favorite on the field quotes from #56 "Like a pack of wild dogs"!
Yalls videos are awesome!👍
LT was the BEST LB that ever played the game and was a top 10 player at ANY position
Best line backer ever lived will never be a player like him too bad giants need someone like that
In 84 Joe Montana was not trying to feel those sacks. He just fell down when he heard LT coming😂
