To have your mentor talk about your greatness holding your shoulder while you can’t speak because of the grief and regret, was one of the most human moments I’ve seen. Someone who has seen your highs and lows standing up for you during your moment of need is a truly human moment of great significance. I think looking back at things Lawrence was a very hurt and wounded person. But he could only express these feelings with anger, and facilitated this anger on the football field to a point of MVP status. So did the Ravens. Terrell Suggs along with Ray Lewis, and then they replaced Ray with CJ Mosley (I know Ray can't really be replaced but CJ was 2nd team all pro his rookie season)
I keep remembering a story I heard Michael Jordan tell a long time ago about Lawrence Taylor. Both went to North Carolina, and on the weekend there was an outdoor court they used to play basketball on and they were playing. So at some point, LT approached and called next game. Problem was no one wanted to play with Lawrence cause he had earned a rep, he was hyper competitive and played dirty as hell, he'd foul the hell outta anyone, and insist you stayed & played again if he lost, so they told him they were playing just this game then they had to split. So, he says Lawrence stood there staring at everybody intimidating as hell, then he walked over to the goal, & jumped up and pulled the rim & net both down, & said y'all ain't playing no more then you won't be needing the damn goal. So he took it back to his dorm room with him. Mike said we just looked at each other and laughed......
I can confirm this anecdote, as I was there. At the time I was a redshirt senior on the football team, second string placeholder for the kicker. 6'0", 169 lbs and not just an animal in the weight room but a flesh-and-blood inspiration to teammates like LT. Would put up 185 on the bench for 5-6 reps, no problem. Yup. Any event, I had taken an interest in MJ during that time period and was attempting to teach him how to do a fadeaway jumper. He stuck his nose up at me back then but I noticed years later he employed that very move, to the elongation of his HOF career. But, yes, I can confirm this LT-MJ connection, true story.
Perhaps. But more likely an addict trying to cope with the terrible things he's done to those closest to him--things that had been altogether unfathomable and that remain beyond pardon, regardless of the forgiveness and grace he's received from family and first-rate friends like Carson. That's my bet, anyway.
He's done his best to tease the demonic side of his vices and his personality. And he's alot better for doing that. And that's what makes him a legendary player.

With his abilities, I figure he would be part of a team that need a big turn around in a serious way. Willis did his thing and retire for a better future.
Anthony Moody not really he was just smart enough to realize GREATNESS when he saw it. It’s not scary but more a recognition of his awareness to dissect and add more to his game. I do give Ray credit on his smack talk and phychological game shenanigans- absolutely brilliant.
I could watch a whole series of these 5 coming back every week for another discussion. Leadership, humility, acquiring the grit to keep pushing forward, and other great topics.

What a beautiful, accountable & sincere moment between Lawrence Taylor & Harry Carson!! My fav moment and Mr. Carson is such a classy & respectable man 💙💙
That was absolutely touching. I loved the LT and Carson moment. We all know how difficult it has been for Lawrence to get rid of LT and all the demons that come with it, I only hope that he succeeds. As far as Lanier, he goes further back than my generation, so I really don't have a a good grasp of his career, but it is clear that he was the core of a great championship team. Watching Singletary, Carson and Lewis is to look at three of the greatest team captains that ever lived, in all of sports history. Awesome interview and discussion to watch.
@Carlos Perez That was a GOOD Chiefs bunch. OLB Bobby Bell, DT Buck Buchanan, & DE Jerry Mays among them. They were pretty darned good on offense too, with QB Len Dawson, WR Otis Taylor, and RB Mike Garrett.
@FightMan so far there does not seem to be a clear story from either party. There may be more information on another interview or publication out there. It would be interesting to look that up.
@@sirjoejoe8813 I said that too but totally forgot about Walter Payton. Walter is really the best embodiment of the NFL really. NFL Rushmore would have Lombardi (coach), Payton, Taylor and one more...
@daAnder71 Haha hope you're feeling good about yourself. Thank you for adding so much to this comment thread
Probably my favorite one. No egos, just passion for the game and each other. Ray Lewis was a great moderator. So respectful and hardly talked about himself, even though I definitely would liked hearing some of his stories.
Damn seeing LT cry that made me star struck I would never imagine seeing a man that tough that much grit have emotions. I love this please do more of these videos
This was the best UA-cam video I've watched in a long time. The quickest 20 minutes of my life to see all 5 of these legends at one table paying homage to the warrior position of linebacker 😢👌🏾.
This was absolutely amazing. The love HC has for Lawrence Taylor was pure joy to see Expressed. As he cried, and if you know of his lifestyle and struggles with addiction....you can clearly see there is so much there unsaid. Great video
The tougher you are the quicker tears come to your eyes. I played linebacker in high school, LT and Mike Singletary were the men I grew up watching and in became the Ray Lewis of my team!

Damn Carson is such a good leader. You can see how much respect LT has for him . He is definitely the leader. He seems like he was that rock of that defense 9 pro bowls...lol
I'm old enough to remember watching Willie Lanier play! He is the architect of that position along with Butkus. AND,,,,he is 74 years old and looks terrific!!! WoW!
From a former defensive players I LOVE the game...it taught me about life...when L.T. cried I did too....its just something about the defensive side of the ball
Amen. I was an outside linebacker the entire 10 years I played.. I peaked in high school lol, but I'm proud to have been able to play a position that I dearly loved, with players, who are still like family 32 years later. I love this game..
I know it's been 2 years but this comment is criminally underrated. What he said and how he said it was top tier philosophical scholar level. My goodness it blew me away. 😤
Such an excellent conversation amongst players who were all legends during their era. Anything that can get Lawrence Taylor to shed a tear is a true revelation.👍👍👍
LT moment!!!💪💪💪 glad he cried. This needs to happen more. Men can be tough and cry at the same time. That was real damn near had me drop a tear. Love this!
Anthony Bowie But none of them would be there without WILLIE LANIER he got the ball rolling in the '60s coming out of Morgan St a HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGE.
Remember they are Linebackers they like everything to be rough and rugged looking, because that’s the way they played the game,it wasn’t pretty but it the job done, exactly like the table!!!!
I swear I loved watching this moment! The respect and admiration they had for each other was a beautiful thing to see from these strong men. They've shown yet again for the youngsters that speaking on how great another person is doesn't undermine your greatness it compliments it! Dopeness...
It was once quoted " when god thought of the rb position he created Barry Sanders, when he thought of the LB position he created Lawrence Taylor" I will not take anything away from any of those men sitting at that table and the one that's missing Derek Thomas.. but LT imo wasn't just a great LB, he's probably one of the better athletes to ever play the game..
Damm man I was about 9 or something when I saw LT intercept that pass Vs Detroit and run it back something like 90 yards for a TD and can still picture him doing that slide into the End Zone bc he said later he didnt know what to do after scoring a TD being a Linebacker. I have to say growing up in Fairfield county Connecticut (a suburb of NYC) I was "with him" for every up and every down; seeing him get emotional about his teammate Harry Carson really got me choked up. This show was great it surprised me and caught me off guard; really great guys appreciate it. *If LT or Harry happens to see these comments somehow I will also add a little personal story: My dad took me to a Giants game when I was that age (like 9 or so) with his buddies and after the game my dads pals knew what resteraunt/sports bar alot of the Giants players went to after a game. LT was there, Harry Carson too and I went up to LT just a tiny little midget in a sports bar probably with a Shirly Temple in my hand and asked him for an autograph, LT to be honest kind of gave me the brush off. Harry Carson (and this is a true story) said to LT something to the effect come on man give the kid an autograph. LT reluctantly did and it was Harry being Harry the big brother, gracious as ever that he did. It is not a mean story it warms my heart to think about it today. Love that Big Blue team thanks for the memories guys. #LT #HarryCarson #Giants #billparcells
@5:10 Harry Carson telling LT "you were good" is amazing. Understatement of the year, but also an interesting dynamic between two HoF teammates. Carson is still the older brother to LT after all these years.
Imagine those old Giants practices in full pads with that line backing corps before the current CBA limited the amount of hitting in practices. LT, Reasons, DeOssie, Harry, Banks going live against Bavarro and Zeke under the watchful eye of Belechik and Parcells
I watched a couple of those practices growing up. They hit plenty early in training camp and what not. Practices later in the year I saw LT and others sit on their helmet the entire practice lol... sometimes I'm sure they were a little banged up...but it wasn't like it was a full on war every day at practice
Absolutely. I'm a die hard bronco fan, thanks for mentioning Atwater! Dennis Smith too. Brian Dawkins, John Lynch. We've had a few over the last 10 yrs. Love to see it!

Harry Carson is the coolest dude ever. He loves Lawrence Taylor 100% unconditionally to the point where Taylor has to bawl up to express it.
“It took A LONG TIME” “no it didn’t”. “IT TOOK LIKE 20 MINS!”
John Shook foh white boi

yos wtf you talking about? Prejudice fool.
forever a joker.
The SCARIEST part of this is when you realize Ray was a kid watching these guys play and took what he saw and placed it in that Black and Purple.
He should be placing it in orange!
and was coached Mike Singletary! How amazing and appropriate is that?
Anthony Moody Singletary was a kid when Lanier was ballin
Anthony Moody not really he was just smart enough to realize GREATNESS when he saw it. It’s not scary but more a recognition of his awareness to dissect and add more to his game. I do give Ray credit on his smack talk and phychological game shenanigans- absolutely brilliant.
Them Singletary highlights gave me chills. Monsters of The Midway. 🐻
I almost cried when I saw LT crying. All legends at that table.
I could watch a whole series of these 5 coming back every week for another discussion. Leadership, humility, acquiring the grit to keep pushing forward, and other great topics.
Ray looks like a kid sitting next to his heroes
I mean Lanier and Carson are old enough to be Ray’s father
Correction: Ray looks like a murderer sitting next to a heroes

a heroes
It is because it is. He learn of them.
This LB round table was the best of the Top 100 series. Classiest and most talented group of men. I could listen to these guys all day long.
"GET OFF THE FIELD..... YOU CANT HURT THIS , IMA MACHINE JERK"
Huey Freeman favorite park lmao “jerk”
LT
Seeing LT cry made me cry.
I get why he cried, but you why ?
EBHS00 Seeing an all time great admit and show his emotion he has for his friend and teammate during a difficult time during his life. It’s inspirational and it’s the raw truth.
Billy Wright I was cutting a few onions myself
I did as well. Always good to see and hear of brothas working out differences without any outsider help yell
Factsss
Now that was entertaining!! I go back to the days Of Willy Lanier and followed all of those guys! One of the best roundtables that I have ever watched!!
Lanier was the guy who came after Butkus that was scarey. 6'1 250. 2 time Ncaa Hwy wrestling Champ. He was a beast.
If u don't get goosebumps watching this...u don't like ball
Right
Gash darnit you're Dan and dapper brotherrrrrrr . Love football no goosebumps tho
I didn't get goosebumps, but I love football. 🤷🏾♂️
Straight up
Truth. Proud to be a Gmen fan as 40% of that table wore blue.
“Time makes cowards of us all don’t it?”- LT 🤯
Yeah..
I'm a HELL of a lot more "emotional" in my 40's than I could've ever imagined 🤯🤯🤯
That one hit ice cold
What a beautiful, accountable & sincere moment between Lawrence Taylor & Harry Carson!! My fav moment and Mr. Carson is such a classy & respectable man 💙💙
Those are some Manly tears!! Love the realness of LT!! Love the football brotherhood!
Please tell me this is a Key and peele reference

Wow Mr. Carson is a great man you can just tell through his demeanor.
@@eliduttman315 easily one of the greatest teams of all time. Bobby Bell is one of my favourite of all time.
@FightMan so far there does not seem to be a clear story from either party. There may be more information on another interview or publication out there. It would be interesting to look that up.
@FightMan That's between them. It's not in our jurisdiction. Let it be.
Lawrence Taylor is the GREATEST linebacker of all time
No,he's the greatest football player of all time.
Jim Brown the greatest football player in my opinion. Can’t go wrong w sweetness or LT tho.
@Matt Beeman Facts!
Gotta throw Jerry Rice in that mix for GOAT.
#1 he is a winner
#2 he is statistically dominant at his position.
@@sirjoejoe8813 I said that too but totally forgot about Walter Payton. Walter is really the best embodiment of the NFL really. NFL Rushmore would have Lombardi (coach), Payton, Taylor and one more...
Damn this was deeper than expected, really had me in tears. This was beautiful to watch. Great exchange between a great group of men.
Well said.
"When did I miss ah tackle?" ~Lawrence Taylor 😂
He was dead ass serious too. Lol. Love LT
Randall Cunningham?
Watch the Marcus Allen highlite video. - Taylor misses him TWICE and Allen went into the end zone
marcus allen juke him
😂the mind of a great linebacker
Screw overating Qb's LT is the best NFL player of all time
Dec Swinburne Damn Straight Brotha
Nope
@@Slipknot5301 yep
@daAnder71 Haha hope you're feeling good about yourself. Technically, since QB is short for quarterback (a made up word for a sports position) and not quarter back, even though my original comment was a typo I'm fairly certain it's still not wrong. Thank you for adding so much to this comment thread
You speak the truth never took a play off.
Flying _ Dorito we all have emotions man, no tough man can handle everything.
Orlando chavez yeah that’s true
This was the best UA-cam video I've watched in a long time. The quickest 20 minutes of my life to see all 5 of these legends at one table paying homage to the warrior position of linebacker 😢👌🏾.
This was absolutely amazing. The love HC has for Lawrence Taylor was pure joy to see Expressed. As he cried, and if you know of his lifestyle and struggles with addiction....you can clearly see there is so much there unsaid. Great video
Wow great job NFL this is amazing
I love the humility of Ray Lewis! All these legends sitting across from each other reminiscing. Very cool.
The tougher you are the quicker tears come to your eyes. I played linebacker in high school, LT and Mike Singletary were the men I grew up watching and in became the Ray Lewis of my team!
LT burned hot as hell. Singletary had those eyes. That intensity.

@@Docstantinople, and saying "I can't do it" puts him in a bad mood...which makes him want to hurt someone. It's a vicious cycle.
WoW!
16:47 Who would think a speech about stoping a touchdown on a 1st and goal would be so powerful
Willie is so inspiring and just seems like a great guy with a lot of wisdom
I’m crying like a hurt child but it’s with pride.
LT crying got me crying. Crazy stuff. When a MAN cries. Everybody takes notice
And that's the truth my brother
facts, hit me deep. As men, you gotta talk man, communicate. Not about toughness/macho, sometimes you gotta break bread and just lay it out there.
The middle linebackers were the generals of the defense and a good one is as important as the Quarterback.
14:57 - Outstanding answer. Lanier's answer here is why he's a titan amongst giants. Period. Utterly brilliant answer.
This is out of control good! Third time watching. Could watch for hours!! LT is the dude. My favorite player of all time
LT moment!!!💪💪💪 glad he cried. This needs to happen more. Men can be tough and cry at the same time. That was real damn near had me drop a tear. Love this!
Loved watching Harry Carson and Pepper Johnson play , very underrated players IMO because they played with Taylor!!
Pepper Johnson held it down too!
Greatest collection of Linebacker's of ALL-TIME!!!
Anthony Bowie But none of them would be there without WILLIE LANIER he got the ball rolling in the '60s coming out of Morgan St a HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGE.
@@dwightlove3704 You have Absolutely no argument from me!
Damn they couldn't get a better table
Ironic that is is the round table but it’s a square table
I was thinking the exact same thing. 😆
Convoy81 thank god I want the only one
Definitely not a Benedetti executive table, must be from IKEA.
Dopeness...
20 Minutes isn't enough, I want to hear way more about these guys and their induvidual journey to greatness.
I can't LOVE this enough. I about shed a tear when Carson and Taylor talked about their falling out.
Respected🤝🖤✊🏼💪🏼
Wowwww what an epic moment!
@5:10 Harry Carson telling LT "you were good" is amazing. Understatement of the year, but also an interesting dynamic between two HoF teammates. Carson is still the older brother to LT after all these years.
I always felt that Harry was the one to keep LT in check and humble him
Straight up greatness sitting at that table.....I mean five of the absolute best linebackers to ever play the game..
@@jameshayes9849 Gotta save them for Sunday.
