Yes, oil tech has advanced. Yes 1,500-3k miles oil change intervals are over kill now and days on normal daily drivers that don’t get abused. However, all GDI equipped vehicles will get their valves “gunked” up overtime. I highly believe that oil catch cans are worth the investment. I just wouldn’t spend $500 for one when the $30 does the exact same thing. Beautiful car BTW. I have it in the same color 😎
@ZillaFullBoost hello would you recommend just buying a cheap oil catch can on ebay or buying one z1 motor sports? I saw another video where a guy bought a mishimoto. I recently bought a 2018 q50 silver sport with 41k miles and I want my turbos to last, I plan to keep the car for about 5 years. I was also planning on maybe getting a 3rd party warranty but I’m not sure yet. I don’t want it dump too much money on this car especially in this economy. I plan to keep it stock for a while. TIA
I'm used to port injection cars. This is my first direct injection car (2016 Q50 Red Sport 400 AWD). I will be installing a catch can from my experience with my old 2002 Maxima and my LS powered 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. I err on the side of caution...
You absolutely will benefit from oil catch cans!!!!! If you haven’t taken apart your car and looked at your turbos then you have no idea. However,,if you have you’ll know that these cars definitely benefit from oil catch cans
Always enjoy all your videos and explanations! There is some word out there, that somehow the oil catch can helps lowers knock. What I read was that it "reduce knock because oil vapor/liquid entering the combustion process will cause changes in (or incomplete) combustion." Does that make any sense to anybody?
The logic is there... but its so little oil vaper recycled through the intake track... if you happen to have an engine that was consuming a large amount of oil, then yeah a catch can would help, but you'd be better off replacing the oil consuming engine instead of masking the consumption with oil catch can maintenance 😉
Some of these new direct injection oils apparently have cleaners in them that prevent this when some of the oil recirculates in the intake My audi a4 b9 now has 80,000 and no issues and gas mileage the same no issues and my q60 redsport is low mileage with no issue
whats your take on cleaning the valves with like CRC valve and turbo cleaner, ive been watching videos of ppl spraying valve cleaners into the intakes and throttle body. seems a little sketchy.
Could work... basically a less harsh way to clean than walnut blasting. But might be unnecessary if the valves never get dirty enough to cause problems.
I've watched too many videos of tear downs on higher mileage VR30 engines where the intake valves are completely caked with carbon. If you're planning on keeping your Q50 or Q60 long term, an oil catch can should be the first thing you do to the vehicle, whether you're planning to mod or not.
Hey what’s up man? Question, what oil would you recommend for my car? I got a 2016 Q50 3.0T with 41k miles. I bought it used so I’m about to do my first oil change on it next week
Depends on how you drive... and the temperature you live in... Since I live in a hot climate I run 5w30 synthetic... if you live in a colder climate then use 0w20 synthetic. Brand wise that's really up to you... as long as the oil is a full synthetic and SN- plus rated you good.
KayDro Technologies I live in Cali so I’m sure it’s just as hot over here so my best choice will be 5w-30. I viewed your other videos after this and seen you recommended Quaker State Ultimate Durability
KayDro Technologies Thanks bro! I got one more question though, do you think this is a symptom of the infamous “belt issue”? I don’t hear the squeak and car shifts perfectly fine when I’m driving normal. but when I floor it and car shifts around 4k RPM or 5K RPM or higher that’s when I hear a squeak sound. I checked the belt to see if it was aligned correctly and it was, didn’t feel loose neither
@@luisiferz id have the dealership do the check... they will replace everything under warranty if there is a problem. Yes a squeak is a sign of the belt issue or in some cases a turbo issue. Take it to the dealer.
50k... should have at least 4 oil changes by now... new intake air filters, new cabin air filters, check brake pads/rotors, front/rear differential fluid should be changed... At 50k there is nothing major to be done to these cars...
@@shawnferrari1533 I'd have to see the car to say if it's a good deal... price wise these cars are undervalued for the amount of car you get... so to me most deals on 16+ Q50/Q60 are good.
The real test would be to take a borescope and snake that to this cars intake valves and see the evidence first hand. That right there would be nail in the coffin for this subject. In 2014, I bought a new Ford Focus ST. Just 13-14K miles later I was adding all-new intercooler piping and decided to go ahead and pull off the throttle body and intake manifold. Looked in on the intake side and it was horrible. black/brown oily gunk and black hard carbon buildup all over every inch of the dished intake valves portion and on the stem like lung cancer photos at a doctors office. I cleaned them myself because it was a wide-open direct shot, straight to them. Took me hours of scrubbing/soaking up/shop vacuuming and hours to let soak with chemicals. I used bristle gun bore brushes and one fine/small hand brush and got them looking close to clean again and then bought my first oil catch can. Damond brand OCC made Direct fit for the Focus ST. The ST and likely the RS's and for that fact all the Ford forced induction DI engines and the GT 5.0/GT350's 5.2L come with Ford's version of the Oil-Air Separator. Not easily serviceable and typically very difficult to get to and end up never getting emptied. www.cjponyparts.com/ford-performance-oil-air-separator-passenger-side-kit-5-0l-2011-2017-5-2l-gt350-gt350r-2015-2020/p/M6766A50/?gclid=CjwKCAjwnIr1BRAWEiwA6GpwNd8Q-B5e2MzIWEEsQMZ9SgYvuGPd3DpZFmdss-8Jll1qA7F8KIWFhRoCkjwQAvD_BwE www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/WC/119723-01344851.html?YN&PartsGeek+Google+Base&+Ford+Focus+Oil+Separator+Genuine+W0133-1984088+13-18+Ford+Oil+Separator+2014+2015&fp=pp&gbm=a&PartsGeek+Google+Basecid=6774379819&aid=79287199093&keyword=829684093169%3A%3Apla-829684093169&kid=829684093169&gclid=CjwKCAjwnIr1BRAWEiwA6GpwNbxU8LHP6DEKuJtPHGVeU8iy35oBHGUSUjzmFqOAt4Lmk3Z1yqBd4BoCl1gQAvD_BwE

@@KayDroTechnologies That was a great question to ask. If that would have been me, that would have been on my mind and I likely would have made a whole video just out of that.
