- This little car was someones paint it pink challenge many years ago. Not only did they paint it pink but they also masterfully installed a non genuine interior making it a one of a kind!
Not being my style, I have attempted to turn back time and restore it to it's original condition.
Thanks go out to Mr Howard Boyle frpm New South Wales, Australia for donating the model!

Brings back a good memory! my dad owned a 57 when we were stationed in Cornwall in the early 70's.
Painting the tail lights red is a crowd pleaser. I've always felt the urge to wish that you had done that even though they are very tiny
The badge on the radiator was illuminated by a small bulb, you could always tell it was a Wolseley coming down the road at night , also they had a distinct exhaust 'tone', there was also a Riley version that was more equipped , both makes often came in a 'two tone' paint job...
I think the interior piece said "SUNBEAM" underneath.
Also, it's great to see you back, had me worried that something had happened!
Sunbeam! I thought it said SUN BED M . I'm a goof. I thought they were trying to do a Barbie type conversion beach theme. 😆
Definitely a Sunbeam interior
@@Bazza.baz224 In model railroading we call it 'Kit Bashing!' .....
I've done my share of it on N-Scale trains.......gotta love it!
Wow Marty your hands look painful!. The hands of a true working man!. Your time around the camera with family is loads of fun!. Thank you sir 🙏
My daughter and I are so glad you are back!
Your videos are always a good time. "Sky" was indeed a pale-green RAF undersides color in WWII. Humbrol made a match to it, too. Also, I'm not the only viewer who noticed that the word etched into the interior piece's mold is SUNBEAM, a pretty specific clue. All the best.
Yep, I've used a lot of the Sky paint for undersides of early WWII Spitfires, Hurricanes and others, when doing styrene models. Also used postwar by the Royal Navy and Canadian Navy aircraft. It's a bit greener than Imperial Japanese Navy gray-green.
I thought it was Duck egg blue for the underside of a spitfire wing ?
I agree on SUNBEAM!
that would make it the interior for the husky sunbeam alpine. I thought it looked somewhat familiar...
@@lotharrenz4621 Good God, man. You thought the interior plastic of a Husky Sunbeam Alpine looks "somewhat familiar"?? Who do you think you are, Austin Milbarge??
*Now that is a great improvement to the Worsley.*
I love seeing your tabloid paper headlines. 😂.
Love that chrome paint!
I use the Molotow Chrome pen for doing the chrome trim on styrene car models. Best "chrome" available so far.
My uncle owned the real thing in the 1960s and 70s. Lots of wood and leather, it felt like a miniature gentleman's club inside. I also recall the Matchbox version being small and un-flashy, so not very popular with kids.
Yes, those colors are the best. Subaru has introduced unique colors that I like.
I believe your Tamiya 'Sky' is the colour for the undersides of RAF WW2 aircraft.
The Tamiya Sky colour matches to the RAF specification from the late thirties.
Looks good! Greetings from Canada! 🇨🇦
Excellent make over Marty Cheers Michael
The return of the king.
Glad to see you back. Since you've been gone, I've had C19 3 times, a stroke, and cancer, myself. take care bro.
Like you restoration.😊
Glad to see you making videos again!
sencillo pero muy bonito tu modelo...y cuidado con el cojin de broma de Kevin
un gusto tenerte de vuelta
un abrazo desde Chile
Nice work. I was hoping too that you would have A pillar straight.
I'm so glad you're back making videos, I really missed them, many of the car restoration channels have shut down, thank goodness you're back to make them again. . . Matchbox had a few Christmas themed cars & sets like the Disney set, could you please do a Christmas themed matchbox in an upcoming video? I impatiently wait for every video, thank you, Larry A. Hundagen (hun-day-gan), a loyal fan from Windsor Heights near Wheeling West Virginia, USA
A charming Matchbox and a beautiful restoration. Also: LOL @ Kevin's prank. Naughty little koala bear!
Well done Marty.
Mate you got some proper working man's hands there, I'm amazed how delicate you can be when restoring such fine detailing. It's not a criticism either I was a mechanical engineer for the UK ministry of defence and my hands looked pretty much the same. Bloody beautiful makeover mate.
Great episode! Love 🐨!!!! 😂
I always like the tabloid headlines you choose for the paint booth, but the electric bum wiper made me laugh the hardest! Have missed the Marty bits…welcome back!
And at 8:01 "I'm just going through the motions here" when showing the headline.
Remember,
Marty buys these tabloids for Kevin to practice his reading for his driver's license exam!
The paint booth headlines are ALWAYS a hoot! Love them♥️♥️
Me too, couldn't stop laughing
Apparently it ripped off his scrotum.
Hi Marty ! Very nice Job and a nice Model. Greets from Germany ! Ralf
Beautiful!
Looks like they were trying to do a Lady Penelope job on the car at one stage!
From internet photographs, that side detail appears to be a design with a W in it.
Beautiful work Marty! The Tamiya Sky was a great choice for the finish color as it looks just like the original Matchbox color. Thanks for sharing this.
I soak my shells in detol overnight. Most the paint will just slide off the next day, sometimes it takes a longer soak. I want to do a time lapse, but haven't got around to it.
The best thing with using detol, is you can use a coffee filter and put it back in the bottle to use again. I cut the top off a soda bottle, pop a coffee filter or paper towel in, and slowly pour it back in. I soak in a plastic take-away food container with a lid, so the smell doesn't escape. This may be why I've been able to reuse it so much. Keep the magic stink in.
I've stripped about 50 cars now with one bottle of Dettol. Doesn't seem to loose its affect unless you strip something that sends it cloudy, but even then, it seems to revert to clear after a while
Marty! Mate, your videos are always so relaxing to watch. And the new life you give old Matchbox vehicles is so satifying. Thanks!
FYI the Wolseley 1500 was only ever made in a 4-door version (there was never a 2-door version).
Welcome back I love the way you take us thought the fine detail be happy be safe
That poor guy on your paint station..got killed by an electric ass wiper..lol..funny..but look forward to these videos..been watching for awile now
I think I would still do the cutting of screw threads in those posts.
Hello Marty great restoration very enjoyable nice to see you back
6:46 there's a slight dent on the front left pillar.
I wish you had straightened out the front roof post to even out the windscreen area, Marty, but I enjoyed this one otherwise.
I was wondering the same thing - why didn't Marty fix the bent roof? Just so happy he is back!
I WONDER WHY HE'S CUTTING CORNERS 🤔? HE NEVER DID THAT BEFORE...
@@michaelspinello3607 Maybe tha fact that he's been gone so long he lost a bit of the passion? Maybe he feels he is moving on from this hobby. I am only guessing. I know when I stop doing stuff for a while I just lose my passion.
Maybe he didn’t see the damage? It’s his show, he can do whatever he wants.
@@jjab6356 yeah if anything he showed that you don’t have to do it his normal way, not everyone has the tools he uses etc
Great work and so good to see you back.
Beautiful job Marty!
The guy must have had a bummer of a day
Hey Marty!
Long time watcher, first time commenter:D. Great vid, as always. One thing about removing paint from plastics/resin(SOME resins, not all!): Dettol is awesome, but also try isopropyl alcohol. Might be cheaper in bulk, and wont have the scenting additives and such. Works for me really well, but dont use it in a ultrasoic cleaner, heats up REALLY quick!.
Beautiful little model Marty and a lovely restoration. It's nice to see a different style of restoration especially for those who don't wish to remove the axles and wheels.
I hope Kevin is not responsible for those wounds on your wrist and hand 😕
Great as always Marty !!!
Love the restoration videos. Keep em coming. 👍
Woohoo!
Interior from Husky Sunbeam?
Technically, the "Sky" color is a WWII RAF paint called "Sky Type S."
Dot 4 is synthetic it won’t do anything. But dot 3 will remove almost everything it need to soak not rubbed in.
I use dettol for stripping minis, works great.
looked like 'Sunbeam' on the yellow interior
Sky was a color that the RAF on the underside of their aircraft, I. E. Spitfires or Hurricanes.
Is it my imagination or the passenger front corner of the windscreen dented down a little cheers Graham
Check the interior from a Husky Sunbeam Alpine!
Yeah, Marty, Im not the only one who noticed the whoopee cushion was still inflated when you found it behind the cushions. You're excused. BTW- it sounded a little shart-ish to me. Check your nickers, mate!
I would have straightened the left side "A" pillar before restoring it.
It may be me but I thought it said Sunbeam on the interior.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I haven't read through all the comments, but does it say Sunbeam on the custom interior?
Love your builds Marty, and your content is fantastic, so awesome you are able to find some time in your busy life in the country to bring us some videos and restorations.
With the Poly Stripper I find that I dunk the casting into a jar filled with the stripper, set it aside on a baking tray, then boil the kettle. I then grab a deep 2L ice cream tub and a ten cent sized drop of dishwashing liquid. Once boiled I put a little bit more than enough water to cover the casting. I then gradually dunk the casting into the hot water dishwashing liquid mix. There is a reaction and the smell is very strong as you would know so well ventilated area is best. Then under a tap with hot water and a toothbrush and some dishwashing liquid usually gets my castings stripped easily, unless it's a Hot Wheels premium casting. Hope this makes sense and can be of help
A pilar looks little bended , but the rest is good. 🙂
The fart was authentic.
Inventer killed by electric butt wiper😂💀
The supposed 'repeater flasher' on the front wing is a Wolseley badge in the trim. This model is of an early one, later ones had the badge almost at the headlight, and had a slightly different grill too. www.driving.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2016/07/wolseley-reviews.jpg
Hi, Marty! Glad you are back here in the UA-cam.
For using the DOT-4 (yeah, that's the right one) You could just dunk the whole base with wheels into it and wait a bit to let it do its thing instead of trying to rub off the paint with a cotton bud. Works much better this way and doesn't harm the plastic nor the metal parts.
PS. Say hello to Kevin
I’ve been watching since you did the hobby reveal tour video. I don’t even collect Matchbox cars (I build plastic models) but I find watching these restorations immensely enjoyable.
I look forward watching every video you upload.
G'day from Cuxhaven 👋🏻
A Woolsley... By the shape of the grille, I almost thought it was an early Holden. (The shape is quite similar 😜)
The colour of the model is called "sky"...
Well, if you're out on the North Sea in winter, in rough seas, you might have this face colour🤣 but I've never seen a pale green sky either....
I have also done the installation of an interior, but not on a classic 😉
Great work Marty, I'm thrilled. Definitely a thumbs up from me for that. 👍🏻
(BTW... poor "Graham" and his "invention"...🤣👍🏼)
Maybe you should keep KEVIN off the internet 😂
Thanks a lot for sharing 🙏🏼
Have a bonza week to you and your family and stay safe and sound.
Greetings from the DCcoB at the lighthouse end of the Elbe River. (And a special shoutout to Australia's most koalafied buffoon. Go Kevin 👍🏼🤣🐨)
😎👍🏼🇦🇺✌🏼🇩🇪👍🏼🤠
It is Thanksgiving Day week here in the U.S. Boy am I thankful you are back.
The interior is from a Husky Models Sunbeam Alpine no26 detachable top.
welcome back Marty, so great to see you back, and have missed you relaxing voice and awesome videos, can not wait to see the mischievous kevin get him self into, though i notice something in this video, not sure if you notice it but the roof of the car, look like it was deformed on the right * laughs* but once you see the bend roof, it hard not to not un-see it.
Hey marty good work but abit surprised you didn't fix the A pilar and the roof and you glued the car back together?
Why didn't you straighten the front roof post?
i was thinking the same
I paused it to read that story about the guy getting his balls ripped off by the electric butt wiping machine. I've always enjoyed your tabloid headlines, but it's the first I've made the effort to read the story.
Wolseley 1500 and Riley one point five were based on the Morris minor floor plan . I believe a version was sold in Australia as the Morris Major .
In Australia they were sold as the Wolesely 1500 Morris Major and Austin Lancer
The Wolesely 1500 ran from 1958 to late 59 ( we have the 3rd last Wolesely 1500 built still on the road )
"Inventor Killed By Electric Bum Wiper"! Priceless!
The feature on the front wing over the wheel was just a design in trim - sort of a chrome piping that demarcated the two tones of paint
exactly this!
Hi Marty! It was fun and interesting to see how you overcame the various challenges with the alternative restoration method you used on this model. I expect Kevin was hiding close by having himself a good laugh at the end.
The tabloid headlines... how on earth can people think of such titles! And this time in tune with Kevin's idea of fun. Great restauration as always, very nice to be able to enjoy MMM once again
Bianchi bicycles traditional color is called Celeste, which I think translates to sky. They have had many shades of Celeste but some are very close to the color you used here.
Nice restauration, only the roof is a little bend. If you look at it from the front you can see it.
Hi Marty, Very nice restore of a classic Matchbox model. Yes it looks like Kevin that little trickster has played a joke on you once again 😀 For folks living in the United States and Canada, I've had excellent results with Scalecoat II Wash Away Paint Stripper/Remover when removing paint from plastic parts. It's 100% plastic safe, but I don't believe that product is available in Australia. Another product I've had good luck with is Testors ELO (Easy Lift Off) Paint Stripper/Remover and it's also 100% plastic compatible. Sadly, Testors has been scaling back on hobby paint production since they were purchased by Rust-Oleum and the availability of ELO maybe limited. Cheers, Rich S.
Great video. Question...the roof is slightly dented on the front left, is it possible to correct this or will the a pillar just break?
In the past Marty uses a lighter torch and heats the cast a little then straightens it.
Couldn't you repair the smushed-down roof? (Or didn't you notice it?) As for a green sky... I've seen that color sky -- it's common in the mid-West USA, RIGHT BEFORE A TORNADO! EEEK!
It looked like a Barbie Dream Car From HELL! YIKES! Thank you so much, Marty, for making this look like a real Wolesley again.
Brilliant restoration as always Marty, I'm glad my dettol disinfectant idea worked out
Marty please look after your hands. There is a hand cream called "Working Hands" made by O'Keeffe's , can't recommend it enough...it works for me .. might be available in Australia...
Great little car. I began collecting Matchbox in the US around ‘58, ‘59 but focused on the trucks, construction and other commercial vehicles, not the smallest of the cars like this, the Morris Minor, etc. which looked too “foreign” to me. Our local toy and sporting goods store had a birthday registry of sorts for kids. They sent you a card which had to be returned to get $1.00 off any purchase. The same card went back and forth each year. As Matchbox there were US$0.39 (discounted from 0.49), I could get two and a half, and my mother would chip in the extra 17 cents to get a third (no sales taxes then). My first ones were #47, Brooke Bond Tea, #17 Bedford/Matchbox Removals Van, green/metal original wheels and the “bonus” was #6, the yellow Euclid Dump Truck. Still have ‘em, but still none of the smaller cars like this restored beauty. Going to have to search them out at the next toy or train show. Great to see you back and well, Marty!
Always fun looking at the Newspaper stories. Electric bum wiper 🤣🤣🤣 another Darwin Award Nominee. Not painting the wheels, drop a small piece of card with an axle width slot in it to cover the back of the wheel in conjunction with the heat shrink.
How come after you sat down with a beer and a sandwich that fart sound came out but the whoopee cushion had not deflated. As he said in Steptoe and Son “you dirty dirty old man”.
Love your style keep it up.
Ha ha! You are the first person to mention the fact that it wasn't the woopee cushion that made the noise!!
Hello Marty, Julie, and Kevin. Another wonderful restoration. I agree on the car colors of the 50s and 60s. We had a beautiful forest green Hillman Minx. I’ve noticed something since your return. Your iconic background music is very low. And makes for basic silence in between dialogue. Did you do this on purpose? As far as I’m concerned you can raise the volume a bit. It was never distracting. Thanks. See ya next time. Cheeky Kevin, what a clown.
So glad you're back.
Any plan to straighten out the roof of this car?
Also, I've found just ordinary metho works as a thinner for Tamiya acrylic.
Marty, if you look at the car and you'll see that is painted as the car in the TV series "Thunderbirds", I think it's, what is her name"Lady Penelopes" Rolls Royce, the six wheeled monster.
What did set me off was the pink colour and the silver painted grill made to look as a RR, correct if I am wrong...
ua-cam.com/video/UWzSctqcDZI/v-deo.html
The raised bits on the side are not indiicators but part of the chrome trim they look like wings..
Good 'ol Marty and his magic tricks. Glad you're back with us, 'ol chap.
Not indicators, just chrome trim with logo. Good for splitting a two tone colour scheme, if you like that kind of thing. Good to have you back upright and functional!
Some of the newspaper headlines in the background are hilarious, is it planned, or just coincidence?
Following on what others have said, looks to be the interior of a Husky Sunbeam Alpine. Apologizes if someone has already added those additional details.
