Couldn't we animate the offset value in the alembic files and avoid PLA baking..? PLA baked objects are a bit slower than other animations since it had to consider all the points as separate animated objects and will lose control.
yes you can, just make sure you switch OFF "Use Animation" in the Alembic Attributes and add keyframes on the "Frame" Parameter. Although Alembics are great for most things, they still are external dependencies and need to be treated as such when sharing files or rendering on a renderfarm. Keeping all the data inside the scene, for simple projects like this is preferable.
