I've been getting ads for this game and until like the last time I was shown one I thought they were ads for Star Wars Outlaws... which I'm already definitely not ever buying.

I think what truly boggles my mind is how investors seem to not be able to understand their audience or learn from experience. Gamers don't like DEI, they don't like it when DEI is used as a selling point and used as an excuse for a lack of compelling gameplay, and when such game is smacked with a high price tag.
For those who are not aware of what I'm talking about. AAA games get funding from major investment groups but most major investment groups will only provide funding if it includes aspects of DEI(stands for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion). That may seem like a good thing on first glance but really it isn't. This usually means that diversity is seen as a quota and must be forced into the game even if it feels artificial and disingenuous(rather than seeing what the story requires and build upon that). Also in this certain groups of people are seen as problematic or less such as men and white people.
I think they know 90% of these clone games will fail, but to them the chance of getting to the top few is worth the risk, as if they make it up there they'll be making tens of millions in profit, it's simply calculated risk, big risk 😅 and sadly, the risk of people's jobs
Don't forget that characters that appeal to straight men IE: hot/attractive women are almost always removed in order to meet DEI standards. However hot/attractive men IE: (safe horny) are fine so long as they aren't also white and/or straight.

@@Nadestraight I believe that's the case but it feels like their logic is a bit flawed considering they probably have better chances hitting it big with mobile games(which don't cost as much as "AAA" game) or at least doing what has been proven to work but with a slight bit of a twist(to at least stand out to games in the same genre).
Also its kind of been proven time and time again that DEI stuff in games has had a near universally negative response from the audience so why willingly fight an uphill battle? They could still have the cookie-cutter character design without the unnecessary challenge.
And man yeah it must be so soul crushing to be overworked, having unpaid overtime, burned out, and forced to make commercial slop just to be kicked to the curb.
@ShiYuMeng2 Oh that's a given but investors somehow think that games can be sold to the consumer just on the premise of being DEI friendly(without any other saving factors- like concrete gameplay and storytelling and not being broken/buggy).

It's wasted talent, these guys could've made a brilliant single player experience or something, which we need more of in a world where multiplayer hero shooters are flooding the market

It is far worse than anyone is giving credit.
Right now is literally the most accessible the game will ever be. Open FREE beta on a weekend. This should be peak hype and they barely crack 2000 and is already in free fall. That includes game journalists, streamers, UA-camrs, and hell… even the developers collectively would probably account for half of those numbers.
The bland ugly characters aren’t even in the top ten issues with this game.
The subreddit for the game is on a high dosage of copium right now

There's been many of those over the last few years, I QA tested for a couple and expressed the glarily obvious issues, but they don't listen.
Anthem, Evolve, Culling 2, Disintegration, LEAP, Lawbreakers, Crucible, Quantum League, The Cycle: Frontier... the list goes on

Im glad to see gamers finally voting with their wallets instead of rage playing games for content or laughs. We need to just start ignoring this shit altogether. We have to power to fix this, the suits will go where the money is.
Honestly, I want shooter games to be paid products again. Mainly because they didn’t have nearly as bad monetization practices. This process not only allows them to make more money off of more and more predatory microtransactions but lets them get *defended* for doing it. I despise it. I am confident that if people make a genuinely good shooter game, with engaging gameplay (so actually innovating, not this), no huge microtransactions and make good cosmetics that are earnable in-game. The people will come.
For some games people would, like Helldivers 2 is a great example, but for a PvP shooter, we're past the point of return now. Subscription models aren't just a gaming thing, they're an entertainment and leisure industry thing. Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, UA-cam Premium, Disney, DAZN Boxing, Spotify, UberEats and hundreds more.
@@Nadestraight That is indeed true, a lot of things are subscription services, and because of that piracy is at an all-time high. Subscription services are indeed spreading because they are extremely profitable, but that does not make them the only option for success. I attribute that to greed of larger companies. (I am no “down with company” person. Just disappointed with the AAA industry and business model as a whole, causing many people to go to older games/indies, and people are noticing.) I believe it *can* be done, given it being a mix of PvE and PvP content. At least my idea is. I understand realism is required, but if things stay the same, the first descendant will simply be a predecessor of many predatory games like it. I don’t want that, and I’m going to do everything I can to prevent it.

As the head of a small studio working on a single player shooter, this game makes me sad. I wish we had a fraction of the budget this game did.
I feel the same, I've been working on an arena shooter for almost 4 years, obviously it's still a PvP title but arena shooters are a dying genre these days (Quake/Halo/UT style)
We've had 3 publishers talk with us, and none bite because of the genre and the fact we won't pivot to a FAD or change to a $20 game...
@@Nadestraight I definitely get that. I wish publishers were willing to to part with smaller amounts of money for smaller projects, but they aren’t. I’ll say this though, I hope your arena shooter goes well. Getting traction is really hard right now in the gaming industry.

Apparently Sony played the early prototype of Concord and bought the studio on the strength of that. They thought Concord was a sure fire winner.

I just dont get it, why not a narrative focused single player story? Sony could have leaned really heavily into this being inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy, and it would have been an instant win.

Back in the 1970's there was no concept for DEI or overt messages. Game companies made fun games and we loved them. We now live in a very demented era where our entertainment is overt propaganda and designed with social engineering. Just say NO!

DEI killed this game, gameplay is smooth but DEI will turn away alot of people.
Its like their target audience arent gamers.
That's one very small part, the biggest issues are price tag... $40 for an unknown IP is insane, and it's competition.. which is all free to play titles that have over 50,000 daily users
@Nadestraight price tag aside, they can make this game free. Implement a solid battle pass but the perception of "this is the pronoun game" will always remain there.
Word of mouth is huge and the word of mouth behind this is already bad.
Some say its slow, and bad other agree with you. But yes the design doomed it from the go. But even with good characters it would probably fail but not as seriously. Not an genre I'm interested in anyway so here for the explosions.

I briefly go over this in the video but not so blatantly, it's because game publishers / investors are asking developers to make them. What happens in the gaming industry is one genre takes off and every publisher wants to replicate the success, so they churn out hundreds of games that are clones but do minor things differently and see if they can get some of the market share, in the process lots of games are cancelled, lots of Devs lose their jobs, and it's been a major problem for the last 10 years

This is an odd take, we've had many new genre's, art-styles, and gameplay loops in the shooter category since 2011. Titanfall introducing advanced movement and momentum, superhot being one of the most unqiue shooters of the decade being a puzzle fps, Portal 2, Vanquish (another game I made a video on, literally inspired hundreds of shooters) we saw the introduction of battle royales and extraction shooters, they're generic and boring now but at the time of their introduction they were new and exciting. We saw more looter shooters enter the space such as Destiny and Borderlands, the same with tac shooters such as R6 and CSGO. And so much more.
