Chain one is wrong . The chain is supposed to be in the wall
@@brandonbrooks9275 its probably better on the door as long as the door is quality wood becuse a dry wall ain't stopping somebody really strong smashing into it
Fire men do that to get to people
For the first lock if you had switched them around and put the chain part on the frame and the lock part on the door then it work
@rick what I meant to say when I was a kid we had a wood wall and it held to a neighborhood burglar. But it was a wood walled house so I do agree that it need to be wood and also the slide it’s self needed to be horizontal where the fat end would be closest to the edge of the door and you would not be able to slide it open.
As I've heard lock experts say, "the lock is more of a delay." All that noise while kicking in the door will get someone's attention unless you live in the middle of nowhere. Just a thought. Lol
Exactly. When lock picking lawyer did that one bike lock that took the steady hand of a surgeon to pick (and over five minutes) people were replying that the lock wouldn't stop anyone from putting it in a pickup truck or van. Uh...duh!! EVERY lock is susceptible to that type of theft! The point of the video is to remove lock picking from the equation! If a pick takes that much precision and time then you take that and worry about the pickup thefts another way!

I am a first responder and I've had to kick in several doors. They are very easy to kick in. You can cause a Deadbolt to fail with 1 kick.
I believe the reason you struggled was your moving frame.
Also I can say definitively the size of the screws is what will save you. To make your door almost kickproof literally just put 3" screws through the metal Deadbolt latch
Thank you
@@thebatmom for what
@@drewa3597 for the information he provided
Yup, 3" deck screws and your deadbolt basically has to be ripped from your door before you'll get it open. Doorframe spreaders will still let it open easily, which are much harder to defend against. Usually that involves a steel bar that holds the sides of the frame and the door, which is a major pain all around and generally worthless unless you have bars on all your windows.
A properly installed quality deadbolt isn't going to be kicked in easily. The plate it goes through should be heavy gauge steel and secured to the door frame with proper 3'' or greater wood screws. Most are installed poorly though. The door jamb is entirely useless for security - the framing is what offers security.

Part of your problem on that second lock is that your entire door is moving, which is dissipating the force through the entire door. If it was solidly put inside a wall, it probably wouldn't have lasted nearly as long.
I worked in hospitality for years and I know the strength of those swing-bar locks. I actually use them on my own home. The thing with that particular lock is that if someone is trying to breach a door, it’s going to, A: Set off the security alarm. Or B: Wake me up and give me enough time to be on the other side of the door with a 9mm. I really enjoyed this video and the lesson I take away is that sometimes, the older methods are still the best methods. 😉
There are videos all over UA-cam of how to bypass those.. they are not safe.

Regarding the test of the latch lock where the door "bends" out of the way, it might not be the door bending, but also the door frame you're using, which is not secured to any walls / studs like a real door frame would be.
you should modify the pole one to have a solid pin going through the holes to see if it works any better. great video as usual!
The chain lock needs to be mounted horizontally in order to not let someone unhook from the outside.
My parents had a chain on the door leading into the basement. It was mounted horizontally with the chain on the frame and slide on the door with the opening of the slide pointed away from the frame. So, when it opens the slide moves to the end and hard to slide back out due to the movement of the door. More effective than how it was mounted in this video.
...and have the chain on the wall instead of the bar too
Ah yes to both of you i completely didn't think of that either. I feel like the chain needs a retest in a part 2 of this video.

I feel suddenly way safer in a hotel room than I do in my own house.
They have tools you can buy to bypass that look.
You can even use a card (like the ones that your hotel room uses ) to bypass that lock( used to be a housekeeper)
@Alex a literal rubber band and some tape I won't explain in the comments how but it's pretty easy. You can break into alot of homes with just a credit card like the comment above says I used to have to do that to get into my home when locked out by family.
Right lol
Really because you got people in them hallways and no cameras to see you get in your hotel room.
I'd make a couple of changes to that chain latch. Replace the chain with a thicker chain and shorten the chain. or mount it horizontally with 3" screws. And I'm not a Tool Time handyman that grunts and growls doing work like than but learned to make lock improvements and put heavy duty slide bolts top and bottom of door. Take off the commercial door and use a solid at least 2" wood door, on 3-4 heavy duty hinges and 3-4" screws. On our hunting cabin we glued 2- 3/4" plywood sheets together with a 16 GA sheet metal sandwiched in center next drilled 4 rows spaced about the door, then inserted 2.5" carriage bolts from outside and put a washer with lock nut. On door frame ran a latch bar for dead bolt lock and doorknob strikers screwed with 3" screws from top to bottom, On the door before putting in locks etc. slid a folded sheet metal guard that my Granddad (made in his shop) with holes cut out for knob and deadbolt then drilled 3 holes at top, middle, bottom of the guard and again used carriage bolts with locknuts and put a heavy duty slide bolt top and bottom of door for when inside for the night. But when going out we had 2 dead bolt locks and just below the door knob my Granddad made a 3/8" thick cross bar using a 42-48" piece of steel flat bar cut in middle joining the two halves of flat bar with a sprocket designed for when locking the door from outside it would engage the flat bar into square tubing on either side of door that held the flat bar in a locked position. The drilled hole through door drove a cylinder of rolled metal sleeve through the door and like one of those tube keys used to open vending machines, he keyed his own key to lock and un-lock the cross bar, making it hard to kick in from outside. All the windows had swinging metal bars that could be unlocked from the inside and when home was swung back like shutters against the outside wall of cabin. Only break-ins for brief time were critters that chewed through a knot hole. But we corrected that situation. But people snooping around when we. weren't there. Never did kick in doors or go through a window. Wish I could make that cross bar lock he made and all the guards he put on both doors and all the windows, on my apartment. Crime so bad with break-ins etc. it's frustrating.
Tyler the chain is on backwards XD The proper way of doing it is having the track on the door, that way someone would have to have the strength to dig the lock through itself. Chains safe people's lives.
He never does anything properly lmao
Obviously he’s never been to a hotel and used the chain lock.
@tylertube
But then he proceeds to push the door open. The chain itself slapped.... nevermind him reaching into the door to unhook it
@@Muhubi If it were installed properly, you wouldn't be able to unhook it. They're very secure if put on correctly. I always get chains and one potentially saved me from a guy that tried to bash my door open once. The chain stopped him.
As someone who has breached and entered premises, I can tell you that a deadbolt mounted in an actual door frame is MUCH harder than a couple of kicks. Were talking sledge and hooligan tool.
Nope, a couple kicks from a health, full sized adult male will rip the door frame apart if you kick AT the deadbolt area, unless one of two things are true:
1) The frame is metal
2) The striker plate spans a longer area and has much longer, thicker bolts going through past the frame into the wall stud or other material the wall is comprised of.
Essentially, what he built was not designed with security in mind, though I concede that the average crackhead breaking into homes may not have the health or mental facility to effectively land a kick that hard.
@@stinkycheese804 I'm a woman in her 60's. Been opening 'secured' doors for many, many years.
A properly anchored deadbolt strike plate will hold up for long enough to grab your gun.
But, why bother? If I need in, I don't even try. I am not in Lock Picking Lawyer's class, but I can pick just about any, quietly, in a few minutes.
Seriously, though, you have windows in your home? Never mind the door. If I had to get in to save a life? I'd break the glass, done.
@@stinkycheese804 almost all modern high quality deadbolts have a plate below the striker plate that takes 3" screws, and you're not kicking it down.
@@littlejackalo5326Then all you're really stating is that most people don't have your hypothetical modern, "high quality" deadbolt, but FYI 3" screws don't keep the rest of the door frame from coming apart if made out of typical pine wood, especially after it has weathered.

Honestly....Im only here for "oh no....whatever will I do"!? 😱
🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥲
I love Tyler....absolutely LOVE HIM.
Ever wonder why the deadbolt is so long? It is supposed to go through the frame, and into the trim stud inside the wall. The metal bracket (if installed properly, prevents the frame/stud from splitting apart like that,) can also be installed on the stud during installation of the frame, making it even beefier, and allowing larger (within reason) screws to be used efficiently. Properly installed deadbolts are freaking hard to bypass with force. That is also an exterior door on a 6" frame. It should be installed in a 2x6 wall, making the deadbolt mounted in it even stronger. That is a 2x4 frame.
You could hold out longer with a wedge of wood than some of those
This comment needs to be at the top!
The wooden wedge will hold a door from opening almost always!!!
Just put a concrete block on wheels, and block the door with it, then lock the wheels with a wedge.
@Andrew Brickhill lol dude stfu
Ok if we continue we gonna argue forever now lol
Yeah, I'd like to see just a simple door stop tested.
I personally replace all the screws for the lock plates on the frame and hinges with 3 inch deck screws instead of the half inch screws most come with. That way if the frame does break you still have to break the screws
I was surprised by how fast the door defender failed (the aluminum flip lock). Personally I like the steel strike plates that reinforces the door jamb and prevents the wood from failing. The one you gave 10 stars for is common on hotel rooms. Thanks for doing this. Btw, the products that rely on the door to be latched and bolt thrown might have done better had you not held the door partially open/ unlatched. Sometimes these products are designed to work together with a locked door not by themselves. That’s just my opinion and your testing has definitely gave me some ideas. Thanks for sharing!
With the chain and slide, mount the chain part on the doorframe. Also, use 75mm galvanised screws for all door furniture in the frame, and if you have a screen door - install a tamper proof guard. It will buy you more than enough time to get that gun out and ready.
I have just a few points to make on your video, the chain lock should not have riveted hardware for the latch, it also should be mounted horizontally not vertically so that when the door is pushed in it cannot reach the latch release point. The frame you used needed to be beefed up to reduce flex and twist such as a real door frame would react. Also the best lock for your door in my opinion is the nightlock door lock. It is very effective and quick and easy to install.
5:03 - 7:16 and by the time you got it open, every cop in the state is there.
The locks definitely benefited from the free standing frame. Less energy was being transferred into the the small lock and being shared by the movement of the frame
A way to impove the stick stop thingy is to drill a hole through the right hight setting and insert a steel pin with cotterpins on both sides. Im not sure if it still would fail but i want someone to try it. Im a failed engineer so i kinda know some things lol
The tube walls would probably just tear at that point but I think you would probably have to at least kick it then and have the foot of the stop in a hole so it can’t slide🤷♂️
Thought the chain was to prevent your children wondering out the house?
You didn't install a striker plate for the deadbolt, of course it's going to break
Striking plate wouldn’t have kept the door frame in tact @Anon Ymous
@@cadenj8171 yes it would.
@@cadenj8171 it would if the screws were long enough to go into the 2x4 which they should be.
@@cadenj8171 If you buy a security type yes it will because the bolts for it go past the door frame into the wall, which is the point of them. in that case it is probably easier to get the door off by ripping the hinge side off rather than the deadbolt side, unless of course similarly beefed up hinges and bolts were used there too.
He was also kicking the door open rather that kicking it in. If he was kicking it in the frame wouldn’t have split as easy becuase the inside of the of the house section of the frame is much thicker than the outside of the house section of frame.
“I feel a bind in the first pin. And the second. And to show it wasn’t a fluke. I’ll do it again.” And now the lock picking lawyer is in your home.
A suggestion, if you want a secure door, just buy an outside opening one. Second tip, buy a strike plate. Third tip, buy big and long heavy duty screws and use them in all of the screw holes.

If your frame was bolted down so the door wouldn’t move when you kick it, the second lock may have broke sooner. Those things are pretty good though

One the easiest way to increase door security is to remove the little screws that hold your dead bolt receiver plate to the door frame and install 4 inch deck screws in their place... especially if you have a good sturdy steel core door and properly built door frame
I know the main goal for most people is to keep people out but I also find it valuable that a lot of noise is needed to break the door down. I really just need one loud noise to wake me up so I can reach for my gun.
Videos like this have the potential to prevent a lot of home invasions...
If the Pole thing had like a bolt you could kick it into the door and I promise it’s stronger I’m a fireman and I’ve tryed to get through that it’s easier to just go through a window at that point
You should test how secure a door is with a strike plate attached to the door and door frame. Also test the security of a screen or storm door that has a lock
The lock you endorse the most is easy to bypass. Most hotels are use to opening those. I recommend recommend a full door bar.

That’s a new phrase I’ve never heard of before not a bad one though
He spent 2 hours trying to get the door to swing smoothly just to test these locks and break it. Haha. I'd actually like to know his thought process on how and why he thought the hotel room door lock was gonna be easy. Cause honestly, I've always thought out of all of them that I've seen, that one seemed most secure. The other sturdy one I figured would eventually pop the hook out due to vibration (which it did the first time he retried with different screws). If the hook had a carabiner type end instead of a hook, I'd say that it would work great though. I feel like if an intruder was gonna go this far, they'd be quicker just breaking a window. Haha. I mean, your door can be as secure as you want it to be but windows are always a weak point when it comes to keeping yourself safe in terms of that cause lets be honest, criminals are already breaking the law, they aren't gonna care that they have to break your window to get what they want. This was cool to see tested out though because I've looked into these for a while for more home security. I'd say Tyler was probably pretty sore after this workout. Haha.
Easy fix for windows is a pair of thick solid wood shutters mounted inside. screw 2 pairs of iron brackets on the window frame 1/3 from the top and bottom on each side, using stout 4 inch screws, then slip two 2X4s into the brackets going across the entire width of the window into each pair of brackets. They can break the glass all they want, but they aren't getting in.
Door poles work really well for sliding doors, thats it
The frame not being installed in a wall makes all the locks much more difficult to break because it gives some flex.
Want a real “you’re not getting in” door lock? Steel U brackets, with a steel drop in rod. Pain in the butt, unsightly, but no one would be getting in. Lol
Or those c locks that you slide a c shaped thing over a metal plate and basically makes a flat surface right up against the frame and it can't move
I work in a hotel that has those U-type locks. There has been instances where we've had to breach the door. There's a few ways to open them.
1. Use a credit card/ drivers license/ or the hotel key card to slide it in the door frame pushing the latch open. It takes practice to do this effectively.
2. Once the door is open you reach in with a pair of channel locks and grab and twist either the top or bottom "rung". This breaks it and moves it away.
3. Same as before. But once the door is open you use a good strong knife or the tip of an expandable baton and put it between the rungs. Then twist either up or down until it breaks and separates.
Everyone realizes that testing them on the same door makes the tests pointless, right?
and on a door that is bouncing and sliding around.
Yes
No
and a floating frame 😂
If you look at the deadbolt, you can see it wasn't past the metal guard.
I used to set up security systems and I'd always carry spare deadbolt plates for customers I saw without them.
That's WHY the frame came off. The metal bit spreads the load and prevents it from breaking the frame.
The plate I have for my doorframe has 6 screws that are each 2 inches.
You will tire yourself out before you break my frame.
Tyler, the door chain is meant that for example, when someone knocks on the door, you open the door to talk to them but they cant attack you for example because the door doesn't open all the way. If the door chain was built with the OLD mechanism then it would be a lot stronger than he ball mechanism in this video tho. And next time, when doing a door kicking test, mount the door frame securely to something so it wont move back, like it couldn't on a real door.
I like how he walks in like he’s about to do damage on someone’s house 😂😂
Then is like wait.. I live here lol
A couple of kicks on my door will give me time too get a couple good shots though the door being kicked in
Yeah as much noise and time as it took to get through some of those the whole family could be armed and staring straight at the door ready to "fix the problem".
Just go old school and get some iron brackets and a 2 by 6
YES...everybody tries to overthink and over engineer things, and they usually always fail. Just screw two very stout iron brackets directly into the 2X4 frame using stout 4 inch screws, and you're done.
That plastic wedge thing could keep people from carding your door. Which is incredibly easy if theres a gap that thing would fit in. I can card my door faster than I can use a key.
Standard deadbolt but replace all the wood screws with 3in deck screws. Also the door hinge screws need upgraded. This setup will require a considerable effort with breaching tools to overcome.
A lock only keeps an honest person out or slows others down. That's all
Not really true. They also make you a less attractive target. The better your security, the less likely thieves will bother with you instead of just going after someone else's stuff
The right kind that's mounted right on a solid door will keep EVERYBODY out !

Tyler, you should test different fishing lines any thing from 8lbs test and up I think that would be sweet
I like how tyler goes thru the door to unlock the chain lock bur goes around the door to lock the chain lock😂😂😂
?? It is much easier to follow the pull of the chain to unlock through the crack, than fumble around to find the slot through the crack to latch it back. Try it yourself and you'll see.
This research can litterally save lives. Well done Tyler
And that is why I personally installed a steel door and frame in my house
I’m installing my privacy hook right now, how far did you say the screws should be sticking out the backside of the door again?
Now put all these locks together
I don't know if Tyler realizes this but he is actually teaching females safe security and how to protect themselves with this video. Thank you Tyler!!!
I mean sure if telling you what not to get is "teaching safe security" he just showed you awful products. Relax.
In my personal opinion I think the best thing for home security is a shotgun. Cause not only can it stop the threat it can also eliminate it!😄
I have one for you to test. Very cheap. Use some extra striker plates and stack two on top of eachother, then use #9 3.5" deck screws. Then buy a $12 "door reinforcement plate" that goes under the dead bolt and wraps around the door and reinforces it from breaking. This whole setup is like $20 max. I can tell you from tests, the hinges will fail first. So if you want to move to the next step, you need "anti kick" hinges. Then you basically have to break the door down the center.
This is why I put 4 inch deck screws in all my doors. Cheap insurance to get some real, heavy wood involved. The one inch or half inch screws go into nothing but decorative wood. You need screws that go into the framing of the building. Doesn't work as well with decorative windows on the sides of the door. Also, remove those. That's just asking for a break in. No glass near a door(unless you get security lamination installed).

Kind of related but not really - I was sound asleep (along with my entire family) and my wife heard someone jiggling my front door handle trying to get in. I grabbed my 9mm out of my bedside safe that was already loaded with 19 rounds in the magazine and had the laser sight pointed at the door in about 30 seconds. I yelled "I have a gun!" while my wife called the police and they nabbed the guy just down the street. Moral - Arm yourself and keep your gun loaded in a bedside safe with a laser sight. Trust me, when your adrenalin is pumping that hard, you won't be able to aim for shit. Just point the dot at the threat and be ready to pull that trigger as many times as you can until that threat is neutralized. I'm so glad I was prepared.
I love how he casually destroyed that door so we can see what locks survived
With the second lock, that’s where we bring in the breacher to shoot the lock off the door
Just install an extra deadbolt, and add a piece of sheet steel to the jamb with holes for the regular knob and the 2 dead bolts.
Like how much he liked the swing bolt when it's one of the easily bypassed one by shoving a stiff piece of plastic into the door.
I got one of those in my ol ladies house. When I first moved in and had to change locks from her pervious roommates. I kept that swivel latch. Put a 4in screw in and it’s a champ.
When I was younger I used to work for a hardware store, I would always recommend that they get longer stronger screws when they bought a lock for there door...
