  • Feeling unsafe in your own house is not something any of us wants. If you don't have a good surveillance system, some foil over the front door handle can help you out. If someone tries to sneak into your house while you're sleeping, you'll notice the foil getting slightly ripped the next morning. A mug on the doorknob can be just as efficient! Find out about more simple and cheap but effective ways to protect your property and your data!

Beat scam ever was when a home security service came by to sell me a security system and asked if they could come in and see my back door to see if it’s vulnerable to break ins. Just as I let them in I knew I made a mistake. I told my cousin who was with me that in three days someone would try to break in and sure enough! My neighbors on each side were harassed at 3 am and saw them come by my house and tried to break in. Three days later. The security people WERE the threat.

Years ago, our neighbors were taking a vacation. The woman hid a valuable heirloom ring in the bottom of an unused box of tissues. Placed the box on the supply shelves in the basement. Long story short - eventually the tissues were used, and the box went in the trash - with the ring. True
Also, sadly, don't trust neighbors too much. They may not talk or share info, but children often will, innocently. A new trend - apartment management and repair peeps will often come in after giving notice and start taking photos of what may need repair. If you're not present, they can easily take photos of bank statements, credit cards, signatures and so on. Stay Safe.💕

When my sister & I were kids, my parents left at about 10 or 11 at night to run to the gas station real quick & told us to lock the doors. Right after the pulled out, someone starts banging on the door & we go to it & look out the peep hole & it was a man & woman we didn't recognize. We said "hello" thru the door & they replied "Hello. We're from the gas & electric company. We need to check for faulty wiring inside your home. Open the door!" & we said "our parents aren't home" & they said "that's okay. Just open the door & we'll wait until they arrive" & then the neighbor came out & let his big dog out & they literally took off running. I STILL wonder what it was they wanted, since I doubt they were with the electric company that late at night.

You all should never have gone to the door and your parents should have grilled into you all to never go the door at night, never ever tell strangers/anyone your parents aren't home and don't ever open the door for anyone no matter who they are or what they say.
Many years ago one of my nieces wouldn't let my Mothers her Grandmother in while her mother was on home from work (in the daytime). Of course later we discussed that one exception and adjusted my nieces rules. Point is, you all could have been hurt or worse if they got in and your parents could have lost custody of you and your sister.

The vast majority of all potential criminals will see that sign and move on, the criminals that see that sign and still break into your house won't be deterred by any methods.

Get a professionally installed alarm system with central monitoring. The security system should have battery backup in case of power failure. The security system should have communications via the mobile phone network and not by wires which can be cut. Have cameras installed, and the video recordings are stored remotely. Also do the procedures to make your home difficult to break in to. In your home have timers for some of the lighting that will turn the lights on and off at times to make it look like someone is turning the lights on and off. Don't post on any social media when you are going to take your vacations or any aspect of your life where you go to and from your home.

there are some other things you could also do if you’re home alone. You could put nail strips by the window so that way when the bandits try to enter through a window they’ll step on it.
if you feel like the bandits will go through the front door you could rig a pulley system to the handle and attach a paint can to the ceiling, when the handle turns bandits walk in and get whacked in the head with a paint can.
last one really works just takes a while. You could set up some mannequins or cardboard cut outs of celebrities near your windows and turn on music, it looks like you’re having a party with lots of guests. Simply attach kite string to portions of the cardboard cut outs to make it look like they’re moving. Any would be robbers would reconsider knowing that there’s a house for a party goers.

Cars are always parked in the garage. I don't put porch lights on at night - because normally people turn them off in the day.
If you are gone for a few days, either the lights are left on all day or they are off all night. In other words, the pattern of normalcy is broken. I do have timed landscape lighting that is always on at night.

Stronger prison sentences are by far the best deterrence for thieves and burglars ...the countries which have them ,have zero incident of such acts...you can leave your door unlocked and go visit another country and vacation in peace .

I don't think it is a deterrance. So much as the mindset of the community and the wealthy interests around and in that community. They don't pay criminals to do political acts affecting an individuals home, and don't want that happening.
Harsh sentences may or may not deter others. It's more predictive, reflects the values of that community.

When I became a widow I decided to get Simplisafe for my security system. Only $30 per month, my home is secure both day and night 24/7. And, if I have a medical emergency I placed panic buttons throughout the house just in case I am to sick or hurt to get to my cellphone. I also installed camera's outside and inside of my home. Camera's are a great deterrent to keep the burglars away. One last thing I installed was a driveway alarm. It will alert me when someone is coming up my long driveway. I can see on the camera facing the driveway who is coming to visit.

I'm a fan of your channel, but you should (first off) identify the fact that the foil goes on the inside... (Secondly,) there is a difference between explaining what a person should do to avoid confrontation and actual information / tips.😬

Wrong about dogs. I saw a video where the intruders offered the dog a treat and the dog was joyous to have them there…

But dogs can be teached to refuse food and treats from other people than their owner.

Doesn’t the aluminum foil on the door just tell burglars that you don’t have a security system?

You don't need a neighbor to get your mail, you can alert your mail provider to you taking a trip and they will suspend delivery service till you return.
Neighbors can be a theif also, they are part of the 60%
Who complied this list? It seems like it is straight out of the early 90's.... Everything is digital these days. Lights in the house these days can be turned on and off by apps. Easy, and cheap to do. Socket adapter that connects to wifi is like 10-20$. Just need a couple you can randomly turn on and off. You can also buy motion cameras, hidden in the house, watching doors and 1st floor windows. Apps can alert your phone to movement.

😂 the postmaster moonlights as a robber, because he knows you’re not home. He’s holding your mail 😅
