Hey everyone! Starting next Wednesday (October 4th), all future Hidden Stories will be migrating to a new, separate channel for clarity and simplicity. All of the current stories will still remain up on this channel, but all new videos moving forward will be posted on the new "Hidden Stories" UA-cam channel here: www.youtube.com/@hiddenstoriesYT. If you want to continue keeping up with the weekly stories and my Hidden Stories series, subscribe to this new channel ✌
its absolutely insane to me that your stories only get around 10k-30k views even after weeks these are one of if not the best stories on youtube and you must take insane amount of editing and researching and you only get very little attention compared to the other true crime/mystery story tellers
The algorithm is only showing people his shorts bc of how his channel is built. Furthermore he has only been making long videos for like a month and only has 4 or 5 of them. In time they will eventually get more views but there are story tellers like Mr ballen who have hundreds of stories and have been doing them for 5-10 years to get their views up. You gotta just respect the process, they’re not going to instantly go viral
Ahhh! As an art lover myself, I teared up when they burned the priceless paintings. 😭 You did a great job covering this story, Andy. I love your channel!
Tbh art doesn't really matter much. The money spent on it could be used for much better purposes. If someone wants to be an artist, then fine, but don't overvalued it where a painting that I can make an ai replicate in 2 minutes is worth 500 million
@@quanicybynoe8628 It's not about the money value, some ugly nonsensical modern art are much more expensive. It's about pieces of art so outstanding that generations of people put all efforts to preserve them and pass them on to us, are turned into ashes because an old mother did not want to spend a few months in jail.
Stefan's mother deserves so much longer in prison. She is the real immoral person in this story, Stefan didn't intend to destroy works of art and peices of history, he wanted to admire them for what they were.
... Stefan's mother was protecting her idiot of a son. Regardless of all that history she wasted she just continued playing clean up for a man child who couldn't control himself... That's what happens when you enable people to let them think entitled behavior are ok. So the real victim is his mother and girlfriend and I guess any human that appreciates art.. he himself destroyed the art with his actions. The art was as safe from any degradation right where it was. Don't show sympathy for people like him it only validates other idiots with that train of thought.
You should definitely have a show, or even just a small series of these - THEY'RE SO GOOD! Definitely better than the average show on discovery, history or natgeo.
Even though I'm only halfway through the video, I'm absolutely loving this video! Keep up the great work - I hope you get more recognition for your Hidden Stories!
I've always enjoyed your shorts, as you got a talent for storytelling, but these long form videos really allow you to expand on those storytelling capabilities. all I'm saying is that you've switched into long form content really well (honestly wish I did it that well LOL) and your content has only got better. keep up the good content and keep telling us these stories, Andy!
What happened to Catherine? She denied knowing about his heists, but we know that she was with him by this story, so how did they find out she was indeed aware of his crimes?
I think it’s because of lack of evidence or because there’s no confession and the guy himself admitted she didn’t know. The fact that she knew and helped him are just technically not able to be proven 100%. They probably shared the story with someone and that someone shared to someone else wich wouldn’t count as evidence. I’m not sure tho that’s just what I guess happened
Awesome story. Heartbreaking that they destroyed so many priceless works. *Your delivery of the stories is as perfect as can be, I had suggested after your first that you slow down your pacing and you’ve done that beautifully, there’s nothing else I can see that can be improved. Can’t wait for the next one. Thanks for the hard work.
She burned them?!!!!!? Omg!!!!!! At least they got most of the stuff out of the canal. If he was already caught, then what the hell did it matter if they found them!??! That just makes me want to cry, or scream, or hit someone or something! All that one of a kind history. It's just too messed up. I'm glad his mom got in some trouble for destroying it all. That was crazy!!!!!
I absolutely love your shorts, and I am sooo happy that you are doing long stories, too. It's always something I haven't heard of and I really enjoy them. Your channel will continue to grow as more people spread the word. Wonderful job!!! Keep it up. Please. Lol
The mentality of the musuem security towards robberies during daytime reminds me of the Spongebob episode where Patrick and Spongebob played hide and seek, but of all the places to look Spongebob never imagined Patrick would hide at home.
i LOVE these longger stories i dont know why less people watch it i hope you get more recognition in these type of content i found your channel a couple months ago and almost everytime you upload a video/shorts i will watch them as soon as i can
I didn't realize how much I loved your Hidden Stories series until I watched my very first long not too long ago. These are awesome and I love listening to them in the background!!
It feels like Stephane wanted to get caught, addictions feel bad. Reminds me of that scene from Catch Me if You Can where Frank cries, “Stop me, please stop me”.
I thought the same, but apparently since he specifically selected everything he stole rather than just blindly stealing things he doesn’t fit the criteria for kleptomania
Even though I had heard of this story from the youtuber Brew, I still really enjoyed this video and am confused how it only got 10k views. Really great video, keep up the great work!
I have a question, if Stefan never confessed that Catherine was his partner in crime then how did you came to know that she is his partner or is it just a theory
The most precious thing in his life, he overlooked because of his love for art and theft. She warned him and clearly loved him, but realised he'd never change.
That mom deserved far more than a few months. While stealing is horrible you know that he treated the art extremely well and added to their already rich history and who doesnt appreciate hearing about a piece of art that was once stolen. The big downside being the finanial loss to the institutions that were stolen from.
Constructive criticism: tell us how these stories have been discovered! This video is an example: how do you know that his girlfriend was involved if no one ever admitted to it. Obviously someone did, so tell us who, when and what happened next! Love all these stories btw, they are truly bizarre!❤️
He was no great thief, he was a bonehead, only successful those few years because no other art thief would try it in the daytime and nobody would expect them to. He found a niche of pure, unexpected, unbelievably risky dumbness. And it's a damn shame too, because it only led to these idiots burning so much irreplaceable art, pieces that should've been beautifully displayed away from home in a climate-controlled safehouse. But in all those years these criminal masterminds never got around to it. The sale of one painting would've covered that, their rent - and Momma's rent, not the other way around. Dullard.
I still thank the mother should have had way more jail time then the son, if nothing was destroyed there would have barely been any loss and everything could be returned to the owners, especially sense he knew everything about each peace and could easily tell them where they whent
why did he go into crime? if he loved the artwork so much he would be an excellent live in caretaker at a museum. the biggest failing of this guy is not finding a better way. also all that art is so sad. what happened to his morals later on? why did he try to sell stuff later?
they may have been autistic / adhd with a impulse disorder he was struggling with for years before they got to each other. rip. the biggest crime was diffidently the destruction.

Mr. Ballen's spirit son. Your story telling reminds me of him and he's a boss. Once again, great job.
I respect him. He stole the art because he actually appreciated it.
The mom not only made herself an accomplice but helped destroy most of the pieces.
12:23 "never steal from switzerland" or maybe never walk right out in front of a police station with a priceless painting tucked under your arm

His mom: *burns hundred year old paintings worth millions of dollars to destroy the evidence*
Later: the whole story gets put on youtube
imagine being one of the richest 250 people on the planet and still broke
Your video editing between this video and one of the first “long story” videos I listened to is noticeably improved. Great video bud.
