I’m an older person. I always loved banking education and thought critically about the learning. I explored whether it connected with experience and existing understanding, was justifiable or at least a good argument.

The idea that the “banking model” is oppressive and doesn’t allow critical thinking on the part of the student is idiotic. I think Mr Freire never witnessed or experienced a good teacher.

It all sounded so beautiful 10 years ago. Like these people really cared about education. About the oppressed. About critical thinking. But then we learned that it was never about critical thinking. It was about critical thoughts. We learned that it was never about dismantling corruption in government or academia. Or big business. It was about making them into Marxists too. They always say inclusion and equity: but if you vote for the "oppressors" or protest for the wrong team, good luck banking. Good luck being on social media. We've learned that they were never actually tolerant, they were repressively tolerant. And we now see that their "liberation" means there will be no end to the oppressors they can find. Good luck to the kulaks. You're going to need it.

I got to know about Pedagogy of the oppressed at Den -L training compound in Gbranga Bong County. It was great to know about the book most especially critical thinking. Problem posting, education is a radical transformation and today I am using all of these theory in my community development work in Liberia as a social worker.

What exactly is being oppressed? ideas? If a musician makes a song and it takes the top of the chart, is his song oppressing the other songs on the chart?

    • @408sophon
      @408sophon 3 роки тому +1

Think exploitation. Rent extraction, colonialism, wage slavery, etc.

    • @AstroSquid
      @AstroSquid 3 роки тому +7

@@408sophon The two competing terms of economics, one is that the world has scarcity, systems must be build to deal with it, the other is the world has abundance and the systems just abuse abundance. In a world of scarcity, idea's that are correct make it to the top or get the most used and rewarded. If you think the world is built of abundance then all idea's are good.... If for some reason you want to find an enemy and also think you're smarter than your enemy you will invent a way to explain to yourself that your enemy doesn't know their own faults, also know as righteousness. So there's narcissism, and then there's puritanical narcissism, the two methods of the ego fighting for the higher ground, using a tribal language that feels smart so you can call others stupid who don't agree with you. The ego always sneaks in through the back door of those people who are truly seeking oppression. So this guy hides the failure of his ideas through the constant use of language that sounds sophisticated, but it's not, it's just the ego sneaking in through the back door telling you it's okay to hate people who have good idea's through identity politics.

Hate this oppressed/privileged bullshit that goes on in America. It's even stronger than among the poor in Brazil (who often hate the rich for no reason, just because the rest of the mob/mass does). You guys have Jordan Peterson, man. Forget Paulo Freire, his philosophy is to blame others for personal misfortune.
I hate to need to say this because some of you are such crazy relativists: I am Brazilian. And poor too, even in Brazil's low standards lol. If you only consider an idea based on the one who said it, you should think about what is truth. For real. Truth is absolute, it does not depend the subject who says or hear it. Objective truth, there is no subjective truth.
    God bless you guys!
Also, what is this decolonization thing? Another marxist deconstructive argument, but for nations? I really don't know. Explain to me.
Brazil is the son of Portugal. It's name was Terra de Vera Cruz. Something like "Earth(Land) of Veritable(True, veracious) Cross(The cross of Christ)". It was first named Island of Veritable Cross, but they soon discovered the sheer size of Brazil lol.
Portugal was once named Terra de Santa Maria (Land of Saint Mary). We were from the beginning a Catholic country. And we don't blame our "evil colonizers" for "forcing a religion" on us. We are still a Catholic majority country. Truth is absolute, universal and unique, not multiple or relative. That is why we believe, simple. Jesus taught us to work and repent for our sins, not to blame others or the world.
We don't believe we are inferior! This is pure relativism! It is a simple objective truth: in general, education is better in Europe. It is a dream to come study abroad, and it is considered an achievement and much respected. "Internalized colonialism". Such bullshit, man.
Não sou nem espanhol, mas viva Cristo Rei! kkk

I'm Brazilian too, it brings me huge shame having idiotic oppressed people like you when we had geniuses like Paulo Freire. We can clearly see in your paragraphs of conservative nonsense what Paulo Freire was talking about when he wrote: "When education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor."

If the banking method of education/tabula rasa philosophy is wrong, then wouldn't the answer be to end mass compulsory government education? Even if you change its methods as he describes, having the students engage in a different way, you are still forcing all of those students to engage in a particular way, at a particular time and place, with a particular peer group.

Hint. It's only wrong according to poverty peddlers because it stops the poor people from being actually poor and destitute.
You know mere things like science and math to accutately describe objective reality and language and the written word to communicate about it. There's /gasp/ even predictive power about reality in such knowledge.
Poor people in the USA now have access to food, items and services that even Rockefeller didnt have in 1800s.
But imagine the Horror of poor people actually having an easier and plentifull life. They might not rise up anymore and give power to the Sophisticated Marxists to dictate how anyone should think ( literally, actual knowledge and skills are not important for marxists ) and what they should do.
Poor is currently defined as the lowest x% of the income distribution. And there will always be a lowest level of income earners. Actual people however generally move out of that category as they age.
What that actually gets you in .gov services and stuff you can actually buy is very different from pre-free market society poverty.
There poverty was abject destitution and real hunger.
And with the current crop of poverty peddlers in charge we'll head there again by the 2050s.
      No energy = no prosperity.
Ask the Kenyan farmers who can't afford 20kg/ha of fertilizer anymore...why ?
Because the IMF and Worldbank insist upon the Kenyan government removing fertilizer subsidies for sustainable climate goals. They are lucky to be able to buy 10kg/ha now. Mechanical farming equipment ? Not for you Peasants. Just at Less (tm).
All the Marxist crap is not because they actually want to help the poor.
No, they want to Free the poor according to their definition of Freedom as they have a special way of "Knowing" what's actually Good, Just and Important for you.
That usually entails handing them power to *Change* (tm) something.

And is currently doing in the USA and the rest of the Western world.

      I'll give you a hint.
Most police interactions start because of public complaints about crime.
Who overwhelmingly lives amongst black people?
Correct, black people. Who complains the most about black criminals ? Black people. Crime is *local*. 😱
      I'll give you another hint.
Poor people want criminals locked up.
Why? Because they have the least ability to absorb financial losses caused by crime.
Crime is caused by a lack of morality.
And in general you are misidentifying the problem. What you are looking at are the effects of poverty.
