    By externalizing and projecting evil into unjust social structures and prophesying a paradise-like utopia via apocalyptic revolution, Marxism evades the central issue that both religion and great art boldly confront: evil is rooted in the human heart.

    Henry Armand Giroux is an American-Canadian scholar and cultural critic. One of the founding theorists of critical pedagogy in the United States, he is best known for his pioneering work in public pedagogy, cultural studies, youth studies, higher education, media studies, and critical theory. So why is he spouting his word salad standing next to a blackboard of advanced applied mathematics? That lower case h with a bar across it is Planck’s constant divided by 2π. Now why would M. Giroux deliver his sermon stand next to such material in such dramatic chiaroscuro lighting, like some worthy from a Rembrandt painting? Does M Giroux have any understanding of quantum physics beyond his conviction that it’s a product of white supremacist thought or that it might help to make his i-phone go?

    • @user-bl7oe2md4p
      @user-bl7oe2md4p 11 місяців тому +1

      I think that what he is saying is that what literacy was to the humanist rational liberalism of the enlightenment is education on the ways and sharpening our intellectual skills to be able to recognize and correctly interpret the agendas behind the many forms of social and cultural indoctrination that we as a population are constantly being subjected to, the collective consciousness in which we are immersed and enveloped by. Which is invisible to perceive because it is the implicit assumptions and mental categories that we use to construct and understand reality (whether that reality is concrete or conceptual)itself. Much like water is invisible to a fish because it is so omnipresent that it recedes into an invisible background space in which everything else happens. The parallel to this is the human cultural and collective mental space. I think that what this guy is trying to explain is our processes of mind which are normally unconscious and hidden or invisible to ourselves. Might make some people unfamiliar with deep introspection self awareness and reflection a little uncomfortable. Other than that a piece of cake, basic post post modern common sense really.

      @@123compaq123 For me ,the limitaion of Giroux and much of left-wing thinkers is they are great on criticising but inadequte when it comes to imagining a world or future that honours all that is wonderful about human history and humanity, In their rush to blindly destroy everything, in pure avant-garde fashion, they fail to see the many true fountains and sources of a life well-ived. Thus their imagined futures are so often bleak and harsh because they have ignored and destroyed many great aspects of human life and culture in the quest of their limited political objectives.

    would not a student be required to master methods (mechanics of reading, reading comprehension, mathematics, writing - and master the advanced versions of method) in order to best be able to actualize any (any) given approach to identity and agency. bluntly, if I cannot read or reason or make fundamental numerate estimations of my environment, would that not be the greatest threat to preservation of intrinsic and subsequent identity? beginning with identity would seem a thing we do with animals - treat dog like dog. teach dog, even anthropomorphically, what dogs are...

      Translated into English: A load of dangerous nonsense, largely based on the correct observations of early modernist Thomas Hobbes. Foucault added incompatible and dense German bits to his Hobbesian 'philosophy' - and morons called him a genius.
      Foucault was not a postmodernist, he is more correctly described as a vulgar/Hobbesian modernist with German-ish additions. Not very catchy though.
      'Foucauldian poetry' essentially means whatever you want it to mean. This is what Foucault's disciples did when they struggled to make Foucault's wretched ideas practicable.
      If you, further, hear the word 'critical' is is usually an indication that the author of the phrase has no idea how to criticise anything outside of a series of stitched together cliches from post-Marxist mumbo-jumbo.

      Their Democracy is where everyone is Utterly Free (and the same i.e. Communism ). Mainly Free of objective reality and constraints whereby Mankind is uplifted to be like a God. Ofcourse Marxist ( Hegelian ) gospel is that we live in a poor Reflection/Simulacrum of the Real Reality and that is what limits us. Thus we Ascend by Breaking stuff and sifting Gold Nuggets of Truth from the Ashes to get Closer to the Real.
      Ofcourse when you break stuff our objective ( read normal ) reality comes back to bite them in the arse and bad things happen. Ofcourse that's never Real Communism/Socialism/Critical Theory/Critical Pedagogy because that's how the they roll. They just learned a bit more Truth. Never mind the ~150million deaths caused by Hegelian faiths in the 20th century.
      Yes, if you think that sounds like a Cult.....that's because it is.
      It is no wonder that US education is getting abysmal results. They really think everything is part of an invisibile vast conspiracy to make more of itself. Thus objective literacy is not the goal. The goal is the cultivate *their* poltical literacy ( i.e. a Marxist lens over everything ). And they're doing it.
      The goal is to make students critical of everything not Marxist. Reading and math be damned, those are only tools to oppress you and keep your from Their Freedom ( i.e. Communism).
      You can spot their literature by some Key Words. Transformation ( I.e. break whats there and that's the Alchemy bit where they find "Truth"), New Possibilites (Never articulated or planned, Communism has no idea of how their Utopia looks and thus cannot know what it wants ) but always achieved by handing over power to their Soviets....er Councils of Experts and Stakeholders. Equity ( Communism ). Inclusion; of everything Marxist.
      They LOVE the trans stuff, as it frees people, seemingly, from objective reality.

    Yeah - politicising education has always worked out really well hasn't it. Teaching basic skills can be neutral, what he's arguing for is indoctrination, but that's okay because all the 'approved' educators will believe as he does in this brave new world as it transitions from the ancien regime to the coming utopia - 'a time of great anxiety but also great possibility' - as he and other revolutionaries have observed. And the claim that "The left have failed because they believed that the most important structures of domination are entirely economic, and not those those elements that trade in beliefs, persuasion, pedagogy, changing consciousness (whatever the fuck that is) and modes of identitication" is an outright lie. They left have been focused on nothing else for at least sixty years, the literature on all this is immense.
