  • We take a look at the Milwaukee M18 FUEL oil impulse hydraulic driver code name SURGE. It's a great impact driver but has it's limitations. We reach for it quite often due to the noise reduction. It's not always you need the max full power of an impact driver to do your daily work tasks. It is good and powerful enough to deliver on most jobs. On tough jobs you may want to reach for something else.
    See where it falls short.
The M18 FUEL SURGE 1/4" Hex Hydraulic Driver is the quietest cordless fastening solution on the market. With Milwaukee's new FLUID-DRIVE Hydraulic Powertrain, users will experience up to 50% quieter operation, 3X less vibration for smoother operation, and faster driving speeds compared to standard impacts. The POWERSTATE Brushless Motor delivers up to 0-3,000 RPM with constant power output to drive screws faster. REDLINK PLUS Intelligence is the most advanced electronic system on the market, preventing damage to the tool and battery caused by overloading or overheating. For use with REDLITHIUM Compact Batteries or Extended Capacity Batteries (sold separately), which deliver more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack than competitive batteries on the market. The 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL provides greater control over output speed and power for greater versatility. Self-Tapping Screw Mode is designed to reduce walking when starting self-tapping screws as well as reduce overdriving, breaking and stripping out screws.

Absolutely my favorite impact so far. I have a gang of impacts, but 9/10 times… I grab this, even over my newer ones

4 THE WIN !!! Another banger bro. Very detailed review. Surge m18 by far one of my favorites. Awesome video man 👊

The self tapping screw mode works great for me . As an electrician I like to use this on service calls so I'm not disturbing the customers as much as a regular impact driver. The hydrolical driver works good enough for what I need.

what you're calling speed x4 is the self tapping screw mode. it's so you don't strip out once the screw is in. so yes it is supposed to back off like that.

    Heck yeah!

I have seen that most people who like using the surge actually prefer the m12 model.

i myself was also planning to get the m12 surge. HOWEVER then a couple of other reviewers on the youtubes also pointed out that from an ergonomics standpoint, the much thicker m12 handle / grip is not as comfortable as other brands (for example both dewalt and flex have really thinner grip). And this matters for those of us who don't have massive thick, chonk hands
but then! it doesn't end there because i always forget (or get confused) over which models of m18 impacts have the infamous collet issue. which is indeed a problem for those of us (like myself) who are buying oversees in 3rd party markets. because milwalkee products then have a much more difficult warranty / rma returns proceedure. which is really not fun to have to claim on after the first 30 days
So --> unfortunately while i like both tools and also need an oil based impact neither tool (m12 or m18) is ideal. Looking at other options, only the makita which is just far too expensive. In fact the only affordable oil based impulse tools (period) are these milwalkie ones. either m12 or m18
$*#$@(@#*&@! i hate this reality so been hoping that other brands will eventually release competing tools. for example if either Flex USA 24v, or a Dewalt brands joined the fight... OR if Makita ever release a new product to replace their old one. then it could have more features and maybe more 'mid-range' cost (probably never happen). what a pipe dream
so yes, --> returning back to this m18 can see myself caving and compromising in the end. just out of sheer frustration alone. but its not really any healthy marketplace for this general category of tool, especially given how almost everyone really should be getting one of these things. just for general typical use and all those many less demanding jobs (98% of the time). without having to be waking the dead 5 miles away, (or without going deaf ourselves inside when the walls reflect back and it concentrates the sound). hehe 🙂

For me, I’m not a fan of tools with the fat stick packs. Unless you have big hands, tools with stick packs in the handle are just ergonomically comfortable to use. I try to avoid them where I can.

@@dreamcat4 It's funny, for all the reasons you guys use the surge I use the xdt14. To me it's the quietest, lightest and " smoothest " of all the impacts. For anything heavier I use a Kobalt Xtr.

For me it's the DeWalt 12V(dcf601) Screw driver for most things, M12 Surge for the in between, Metabo HPT 36V Bolt (36DC) for the big stuff. Love em all. That Surge is something special for sure. I held off on Milwaukee until that came out. It really is amazing. Metabo HPT (hikoki) has one also in JP, but it's far too expensive.

Good video man! Great work on all the solid reviews. I also like using the surge when I can. It doesn’t have the collet issue and it feels smoother, but then again thats why I like using makita

Well you misunderstood the tool when you said you went "speed 4" It is designed to make it stop on sheet metal screws and the like.
I'd run it again on 3 wich is the top power mode for this driver. Nice video otherwise. Cheerio.

What's the most comfortable driver to you for all day shift work?

      Commercial concrete framer

      @4thewinak  2 роки тому +1

hard to say, since i don't do commercial concrete framing, but if you don't need all the raw power of the impact, i like using the makita sub-compact.
